The folks over at Yacht Club Games have finally given us a new trailer for Shovel Knight, which you can watch above. The game looks spectacular, but perhaps the biggest announcement is we now have a release date in mind. Shovel Knight will be heading to PC on March 31st, which means the console release dates should be around the same time.

As explained by the team’s Twitter account, March 31st is the general release date until they can get confirmed platform dates for consoles. We’ll let you know when a solid date for Wii U is available. In the mean time, enjoy that snazzy new trailer.

Ummm, I am curious. Is this the so called Shovel-ware everyone talks about?

  • audi lover

Makes me wana walk the streets with my trusty shovel

    • darkcreap

There’s something just funny in seeing a knight killing dragons and defending princesses with the power of an almighty… shovel 😀

  • darkcreap

By the way, I heard that Yoshi’s New Island’s release date has been announced, so I guess an update on the Nintendo 3DS section is due.

A friend of mine told me it was announced by Nintendo’s Twitter:

    • Fred

I’m surprised they published the release date today. I figured they’d wait until the January Nintendo Direct that we all assume is coming any day now.

      • darkcreap

Yes, weird enough. I hope that does not mean no Nintendo Direct is coming. A new one is more necessary than ever.

  • Nintenjoe82

More excited by this than Mighty No. 9, although lots of the enemies in this game do look a bit like arses.

    • darkcreap

Well, it’s an 8-bit style platformer, so the visuals are not stunning. They are probably not the core of the game. Nonetheless, a bit better graphics would have helped. I had a NES at the end of its cycle (I was very young back then) and for minimum requirement in graphics is SNES style to feel comfortable.

      • ufg

I was struck by the graphics when I saw this. And I’m nearly never a fan of 8-bit style graphics. It seems like it’s been used to a good effect here.

      • Nintenjoe82

It does look a bit too faithful to the 8-bit era but I will probably play the whole thing on the gamepad so I am not to worried.

What you just said is the reason I haven’t bought NES remix yet.

Full motion cut scenes you cannot skip, regenerating health, and quick-time events are my biggest turn offs to modern games.

The 8-bit graphics are nostalgic and screams Zelda II. While graphics are the eye-candy of the game, they are not everything. Too much candy and not enough real meat makes my stomach sick. This game is like a T-bone steak with some ice cream on the side.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Im more excited by this than Donkey Kong Freeze. This seems to be a TRUE quality game, and not a rehearshed game based on a very old formula.

      • Jan

That’s funny. Shovel Knight is exactly what you are complaining about 😉

      • Agent721

Shovel Knight isn’t an old formula? Looks like traditional side scrolling 8 bit action to me, which is exactly why I’m into it! Zelda II comes to mind rather quickly.

  • William Martinez

Now THAT is a trailer…. i really want this game 🙂

  • Looks good.

  • jrob23

Why aren’t these articles on the front page as News? The site looks dormant for weeks

    • crocodileman94

That happens sometimes, but it’s usually solved when you refresh your browser history.

      • jrob23

thanks. seems like that did the trick. Weird how only this site was affected. 🙂

  • Donaald

I thought it was cancelled, well, this game reminds me of my childhood in the 90s so maybe I’ll pick it up, if Nintendo opens the eshop in latinamerican countries.

  • Herman Jeeves

Um, what exactly is tentative about this release date?

  • greengecko007

This game looks really cool. I’d be willing to grab when it finally comes out if the price is right, which for me would be no more than $10.

  • LJay

Looks bloody ace! I’ll buy it the minute it comes out

  • SleepySkullhead

The music sounds amazing! Definitely getting the Wii U version, and maybe the Steam version as well if it goes on sale.

  • jrob23

I feel bad. I’ve been saying all along that I didn’t understand the hype. But I failed to take into account that this is a kickstarter game from an idie developer. It really does look brilliant. The trailer music, well, the trailer in general is kickass. If the music is anything like that in the game I will day one this bitch!

  • Sacrontine

Ha, i already bought it on kickstarter

  • Madmagican

    AND WE WAIT… o_O
Been following this game since the Kickstarter back in March of 2013 and I can honestly say it’s my most anticipated game for Q1 2014 alongside DKTF

  • Old School

This is going to be a Wii U game?! I understand a virtual console game for $2-3. I give this game a month before the price gets dropped to $19.99. What a joke

    • HungryMetroid

what VC games are $2-$3? and this an eshop game so its probably going to cost $10-$15 off the bat.

  • Agent721

This looks to take quite a bit of cues from Zelda II. I’m in!
