Art of Balance 5

Shin’en Multimedia has just announced their new game for Wii U that had been teased. It is called The Art of Balance, and looks to be a really souped up port of The Art of Balance: TOUCH!, their 3DS game that was originally a WiiWare title.

Some of the new features for the game include:

  • Off-TV play, and multiple control schemes such as analogue, touch screen and Wii Remote.
  • Multiple online and local multiplayer modes for both competitive or co-operative play. Up to five players can participate in the various modes at once — one on GamePad, four on Wii Remotes — while up to ten people can play across two Wii Us in online matches.
  • Online Leaderboards will be a feature, and their goal is to be region free.
  • HD graphics that incorporate all new designs and locations (A few pictures below).
  • More accurate physics that are processed at 240 frames-per-second (as opposed to the 30 FPS physics that the 3DS featured)
  • All the levels from the previous games, and then some.

All in all, it sounds like the developers are really taking advantage of the Wii U hardware, using all of its power to make the physics and animations even more smooth. Not to mention being one of the few Wii U games that has online play.

It’s really great to see indie developers finding a good home on the Wii U, and I can’t wait to try this game out! How about you?

Uhm…..as much as I love indie games….I’m gonna pass on this one. It’s not something I’d play.

  • Christopher Eckerdt

Looking at the pictures zoomed in on your website causes them to get cut in half. Please fix, thank you.

  • Dรกibhรญ wotshissurname

Dem graphics. I forgot to upgrade my retinas this morning, obviously…

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, them graphics. I’ve seen them many times before…

    • Dรกibhรญ wotshissurname

      Woohoo! I just got automated-disliked!

  • Kirbyomega

Woah I thought it was a picture not part of a game

  • Mj78

wow, excitement built and then as usual with wii u, killed in a second. art of balance….bloody hell fire

  • jjbredesen

I dont usually care about how games look, but this looks freaking fantastic!!ยจ

    • Shota

i thought you were blocked. glad you’re back

      • jjbredesen

Thanks, some minor misunderstandings, and problems with some trolls, but everything is fine again ๐Ÿ™‚

WTF Science? I can see you are downvoting!

        • Rinslowe

          You were blocked?
          How does that happen??

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He pretended to be truthteller. So naturally, they thought he was the real one. I guess that’s a good lesson learned there. Never pretend to be the site’s arch nemesis.

          • Skelterz

          • jjbredesen

Actually, it was because WUD, thought i was a member of Nintenscience, because of them creating a future of my Miiverse app on there site, in case you don’t know who they are, they are a the group that trolled Rinslowe.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

While I don’t agree with trolling attacks on others, he does bring them on himself at times.

          • jjbredesen

Ashley thought i was a member of Nintenscience, because i had commented on there site XD

        • darkcreap

Great to have you back, man!!

          • jjbredesen

            Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Magnus Eriksson

It do look great. But I didnt catch the gameplay. Is it about balancing stuff? Sounds a little boring.

      • iamserious

I was thinking the same thing.

      • jjbredesen

Yeah, that was the point of the meme, just because something looks great, does not mean it will play great.

Never played it though, but i think it is just about balance?

    • Sydney Ultrasyd

I’m sorry, video games are a whole thing : there are people working on the gameplay, some on the graphics, some one the music. You mean you don’t care neither for the music ? If all the aspects are good, it’s fine. People designing the graphics are artists that can be proud of their work.

      • jjbredesen

Never said i don’t love a great looking game ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love music, and how games look, my point is that it does not make a game great just because of the way it looks, gameplay is the most important part.

Music is exstremly important, i often listen to Zelda music etc, just pointing out that just because it looks great does not mean it will play great. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Skelterz

So your back then man i had a word with that ashley girl the one that writes the articles and said she should look into it a bit more cause there was no need to ban you?

      • jjbredesen

Thanks, yeah everything if fine now ๐Ÿ™‚ Just a misunderstanding ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Skelterz

No worries man you make good point and comments so i thought WTF lol, Not blowing my own trumpet but i was the only one who fought the system bro hahahah.

        • jjbredesen

I can see your downvotes Science!

  • Shota

if it’s like the 3ds version of how it plays then i’m not gonna buy it. unless there’s a demo that proves me wrong

  • Nickdawg

Okay, seriously, people call the Wii U underpowered, but, HOW MANY GAMES DO YOU KNOW THAT RUN AT 240 FPS!? Doesn’t sound so underpowered to me…

    • 00EpicGamer00

Not to be the downer, but this game isn’t exactly an engrossed action game. So, it makes sense that the fps is pretty high. Now, if Nintendo can make Hyrule Warriors with 240 fps…….

      • leemass25

actually the 240 number is just the speed of which the physics are processed the game will run at 60fps.

        • 00EpicGamer00

          Ah, thanks for the clarification.

    • oontz

You have no clue about game design and resource management.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Make the game fast action paced, then let’s see that number stay at 240fps.

      • nexxus6

Why would anyone waste the resources on making a game 240fps? The human eye can’t distinguish a difference between 60fps and 240fps, so those resources could be allocated to other aspects of a game. Also, if you read the article, it said the physics would be processed at 240fps, not that the entire game would run 240fps.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Indeed I did read it. You obviously missed the point of my post.

          • nexxus6

If you are referring to the fact that if the game was “fast action paced” that the fps number would not be sustained, I understood that.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It was a sarcastic response back at Nickdawg’s logic. You may wanna relay your response towards him.

          • nexxus6

My response was not meant to be at Nickdawg’s post, because I knew he misread the article or doesn’t understand that the game isn’t 240fps. I was commenting on your rebuttal to his response. Your sarcasm wasn’t directed at his misunderstanding of the terminology, but more at the Nintendo hardware which doesn’t have a hint of sarcasm. Your post of a fast action game not sustaining 240fps seems more genuine than sarcastic.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Seems doesn’t equal fact, however. It’s almost near impossible to to detect sarcasm unless you say so. Not everyone can pinpoint it through words over the net. I’ve cleared it up for you, so there shouldn’t be much left to say about it.

          • nexxus6

If you say it was sarcasm, then it is sarcasm. However, I still feel that it is was more genuine, but that is just me. I would have went with something like “wait until you see Mario Kart 8 run at 480 fps.”

    • jjbredesen

The human eye, can’t see more than 60FPS, so it does not matter, and this game is not excatly a resource hungry beast, i think they mean that everything is processed at 240fps, still great though ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • well, 240 fps is how many frames per second the physics are calculated at. Not necesarily how many frames per second the graphics are updated at. Biiiig difference

  • C4

I don’t get what this game is about.

    • Sdudyoy

You have certain shaped pieces of blocks you have to stack without them all tumbling down into the water.

      • C4

Thanks. There’s no time limit I guess or a mode to make the biggest splash? Wii U needs more puzzle-like games ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Sdudyoy

I can’t recall a time limit, but I haven’t played the original version in a while, I also can’t recall any other game modes, that’s not to say there isn’t any, there is a demo of the 3DS version, I think It’s the same game that the Wii had with lower resolution, it should play similar to the Wii U game, if you’re interested you could try it out, if you have a 3DS.

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

Hmmm..well I agree it looks nice graphically.

  • Saul Rivera

Hmm but already have the wiiware version…if it’s only going to have a few extra levels than..well..not sure I’d want to buy it again…unless the price is right!

  • WiiUPS4

That is cool and all but this game would bore me fast

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      I’m bored looking at it.

      • WiiUPS4

I can agree there been busy playing my PS4

  • Donaald

    That’s some dope visual style.

  • MetroidZero

I’m ignorant when it comes to Indie games and their developers, but I can see the Wii U having a ton of Indie games this generation, and it’s probably not a long shot to say it will have the most Indie support this generation out of the three home consoles.

    Just a thought.

  • Superstick98

Whoever owns a tv capable of 240 HZ sure is happy right now. I’m jealous! >:(

  • Sdudyoy

Ehh, this game isn’t bad, but I would have much preferred to see somthing from Fast racing Neo, this will most likely be somthing I pass on.

  • Shinigami King

I like the look of this but I haven’t seen Art of balance: tough before. Does anyone here have an opinion on it?

  • Rinslowe

  • Carlos Webster

They’re putting a lot of effort into this.

  • Clint

Just like FAST Racing, this is a day one purchase for me.

I don’t get what some people are disappointed about. Shin’en only has 5 active franchises: Nano, FAST Racing, Art of Balance, Jett Rocket, and Fun! Fun! Miningolf. We already have a Nano game, FAST was already announced, and they posted on Twitter a few days ago that they aren’t currently developing a Jett Rocket game for the Wii U. It was either this or Minigolf. I’m sure that Jett Rocket will be next.

  • Enumerating Wishes

If you look at the fruit the edges are a bit rough, but the graphics are very good either way.

  • Christian Schoff

Ah blimey, I’m awful at games like this.

  • Steve Anatala

unrelated but funny stuff if you love Smash Brothers, this is a classic mini-series

  • gamingpalooza

    graphics look amazing

  • oontz

So should it really be called “a new game”? It’s an HD port of a wiiware/3ds eshop title. Developers shouldn’t be teasing the public with news of a new game when in reality it’s just an HD re-release.

    • Agreed, I’m happy the games coming but it’s inevitably disappointing compared to an all new game.

  • C.S. Bailey

Not what I was expecting, but still something I will spend money on.

  • Josh111111

    240 FPS?!

  • Stephen Davis

Sorry doesn’t look too exciting. Its meh. Too bad cause the developers are really talented. Was looking for something new, not something that was new made new again.

    • Donaald

Upvoting yourself? You must be one insecure fag.

  • Skelterz

Hey giving everyone the heads up that MK8 box art has been unvailed by nintendo.

    • Shota

they finally released the bigger highquality of the boxart

  • TaintedXGamer

I have the wiiware version, nice to see they upgraded it, but I’m not downloading this one

  • justin476

I have the 3ds version its very addicting and smart. Its a game that’s good for 10 or 15 minute playtimes.

  • IcyCatt

    Had to have an unrelated comment. But I’ve run out of options. Recently I haven’t been able to get on to Wii U Daily, without the articles from being WEEKS ago.(I’m still on that Microsoft guy’s kind words) If anyone know’s how to help me out, that’d be amazing! I just want my News… ;-;
