Despite today’s adjusted sales forecasts and loss projections, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says he won’t be stepping down. Today, during a press conference in Osaska, the executive apologized to investors for a third consecutive annual loss, but reassured them there would not be any immediate changes in Nintendo’s management. Iwata also said that he feels responsible for the company’s current position and it is critical that its business rebounds as soon as possible. Earlier today, Nintendo announced that it had reduced Wii U sales projections from 9 million to 2.8 million units by the end of March. The 3DS also saw similar cuts, with the company adjusting the popular handheld’s sales projections from 18 million to 13.5 million units. The other element her is that you guys should lessen the buyers that have knowledge of the system and sometimes take their advice. tronic307 Hoo boy. This is going to be good… Mario 1983 Nintendo need to get someone who understands what is important to today’s gamers, online multiplayer, high specs, third party support etc. Michael Dierlam I agree that they need someone more “in touch” with gamers. But keep in mind that not all consoles should try to do the same thing, it just won’t work. Yen I always thought that what’s important is to have fun with what you’re playing. I guess going online to be called a noob by a 12 year old, specs that are way more than enough for a gaming system, and a new madden/CoD every year is more important. Pokemonsilph Online multiplayer isn’t THAT important if you have a great single player campaign, high specs don’t really matter to me as long as the games are good, and third party support… yeah that’s important lol. Laud You know, that might be what we want but if they did that they’d be alienating their fans in Japan. And then they might have to implement a subscription service for online. shaw98 Look Iwata, you are a nice guy. You see your company as family and I respect that. But you are holding NIntendo back. There are so many games that the wii u can offer and you are not showing them. People just don’t know how great the wii u is let alone know what it is. They don’t see any good advertisements to see (let alone good advertisements) to see the greatness it can offer. There are games, masterpieces in gaming and nobody knows about it. And that is sad. We need someone with determination. Someone who can get the wii u out there and can show what it can do, what it can play and how you can play it.I love my wii u and my daily Nintendo products, it is just sad people don’t know about your system and what it is capable of. AAAkabob I”m gonna be honest, Nintendo needs to catch up if they want to make profit. I’m not saying get rid of Zelda or Mario, however Nintendo needs to present something new and update their image. Zorpix That new Miyamoto IP needs to come now Guest And also release new Star Fox, Metroid and F-Zero games. Zorpix please Satoru Iwata More about that in our next Nintendo Direct. Please understand very much. Thank you. Pokemonsilph XD thedragonslayr that is not really him he would never reveal stuff like this DragonSilths Yeah no. More like at E3. Satoru Iwata I’m very sorry, but Metroid will be at E3. I’m sorry this troubles you. Please understand very much. Thank you for supporting Nintendo. DragonSilths No it wont. While Retro could whip up a quick CGI trailer showing off Metroid in 5 months I doubt they will do that. We went 3 years before finding out about f-ing DKC TF…No way a mere 5 months then a reveal of Metroid. Magnus Eriksson They did this with the Zelda tech demo. But agree, we wont probably see anything like that. Daniel Gonzalez Lol. Relax dude. He’s obviously teasing you and you’re taking the bait. I think we all know it isn’t happening. TaintedXGamer but……. it could be happening under our noses…. did you think of that possibility? 😛 DragonSilths I’m aware, and I was already relaxed. Don’t care if its a troll or whatever. I will always strike back with facts. Daniel Gonzalez That ruins the humor in it. ;P DragonSilths Humor? In life? I didn’t allow that…You have to fill out form 1783b and form 917 h-9 and lets not forget the 30,000 page essay on why humor should be allowed in that specific situation…Way to much work to prohibit. Scoopz Who’s to say DKC TF was the only project they were working on? It could have been their lead/priority project because DKC R was such a success so that was made a priority to help the struggling Wii U but on the side they couldve already begun preliminary work on a Metroid title. That explains why DKC TF has taken so long because the teams resources have been stretched. DragonSilths Retro was working on DKC TF when they were helping with Mario Kart 7. Retro said in an interview all they have done involving Metroid was discuss some ideas for what they could do if they were to make another one. They discussed the ideas back when they had to chose ONE game to do, aka DKC or Metroid and they said they chose DK. Zorpix I understand… THAT YOU ARE LYING! Felorn I honestly don’t think a New IP will revitalize sells as well as we would all like to believe. That not me saying that the game Miyamoto is working on will be bad… Because it won’t. I just doubt it will have as huge of an impact as we are already predicting. Unless the new game is like Halo was to Xbox then I don’t see it doing too much. Arthur Jarret I agree. Miyamoto’s new IP Pikmin didn’t really help to boost gamecube sales either – despite being an amazing game. I don’t know why people are expecting that effect now. Zorpix oh me either. But I have to hope, dont I? XD Diaz I just hope that the new IP is something that is actually good and not like Wii “insert action” U. Zorpix yeah. you’re right The Clockwork Being IF it just ended up being that, a mention of Nintendo of a new I.P would just not hype me up anymore. Steve Anatala Seriously I’m starting to wonder if they are even doing that anymore. They haven’t said anything in like a year about it. Zorpix They need to bring more things to light Magnus Eriksson They have: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Pokemon, F-Zero, Fire Emblem. What they need is not another IP. What they need is a different twist on a old one, like they did with Mario64 and Zelda OoT. Within these frames they can do alot, and they can still rely on their brands. Metroid, F-Zero and Fire Emblem could very well attract hardcore (hate that label) gamers in the age between 14-25, aswell as us other. It could be done with Kid Icarus too. They could do some new brilliant crossovers, like SSB, Mario Kart, Nintendo Land etc. But they need to invest. Im not sure that they are interested in this right now. YoG99 If history can teaches us something is that Nintendo always find a way to slap naysayers in the face. Actually, they don’t slap everyone, they just make everyone slaps themselves. I so remember when Wiimote was first revealed, everyone was laughing but Nintendo won last gen war. I still have faith in Nintnedo and I’ll always will … this is not a standard company, they will find the way, they will find their way … during that time, I’m enjoying my Wii U and all great the great games I can play on it. Mario Yeah… No matter what happens, Nintendo will always find a way to keep the fight going. Magnus Eriksson Fire Iwata and Reggie for a start. DragonSilths Reggie is fine. Drunken Reggie With the way I’ve been hitting the booze on an almost daily basis, I respectfully disagree. Reggie DragonSilths I have no interest playing these games with impersonators. I have to deal with my own damn impersonators. Jacob ‘Whit’ Whitaker What a killjoy. All of your comments are so anti-fun. DragonSilths Fun isn’t allowed. They take to much paper work. Magnus Eriksson looool 😀 Mario Not fire. Just get a new job in the company is fine with me. Magnus Eriksson Ok, they can make coffee and run the copy machine. Mario Right… CMB BRING BACK ARKAWA DragonSilths Zelda? Who says anything about getting rid of Zelda? Mario needs a break, but Zelda HD needs to be shown soon. mario54671 The core Super Mario franchise (New Super Mario Bros. and the 3D Mario games) will likely take a long break. Nintendo previously stated they only want one 2D Mario per system, and since they already got that out of the way on 3DS and Wii U, and they already had EAD Tokyo make a Wii U Mario game, I think the core Mario franchise will take a break now. What EAD Tokyo needs to do next is make a REAL 3D Mario that is more in line with Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Start making it now, take their time making it… perhaps it won’t even hit the market by the end of the Wii U lifecycle. Fine, put it on your next console and make it a launch title! Do a Mario 64 with this one. Design your next piece of hardware around that game, and make it one hell of a launch title. Adecentboy777 That should have happen last year. I enjoyed the 3D Mario on Wii U, BUT it’s NOTHING compared to N64 Mario. N64 Mario was awesome and good for both hardcore and casual gamers, maybe a bit more for the hardcore ones 🙂 A N64 Mario like game as a lunch title for the Wii U would have been a system seller. They need to stick to this and bring on something! mario54671 Well, I can’t disagree. That unveiling of 3D World crushed me with disappointment. The game was still good, but it’s still not what I wanted. However, the sad truth about real 3D Mario games is that… they don’t sell incredibly well. Super Mario 64 sold 11 million copies, Super Mario Sunshine sold 6 million copies, Super Mario Galaxy also sold 11 million copies, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 sold 7 million copies. Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. on DS sold 30 million copies, while New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold 27 million. They still sell well, I mean, 11 million is incredibly successful, but Nintendo has definitely recognized that people prefer 2D Mario. I still want them to do a more open world Mario game like Sunshine or Mario 64. It’d sell less than a 2D Mario, but it’d still sell a lot. Unfortunately at this point, their best option is just to take a break from Mario, which I think they’ll be doing now that they got all the Marios out of the way. 2D Mario for 3DS and Wii U? Check. 3D Mario for 3DS and Wii U? Check. If the Wii generation was any indication, Nintendo can spit out two 3D Mario games on the same system. Now they got the easy one out of the way last year, so hopefully they can take these next few years and let their other games sell the Wii U and then come out with a Mario that would REALLY keep the momentum going. Adecentboy777 That would be nice! Let’s see what happens 🙂 NkoSekirei E3 enough said DragonSilths The only big blockbuster I see at E3 2014 from Nintendo this year is Miyamoto’s new game. Zelda maybe…but I think we will see Zelda partially before E3 in a Direct. Magnus Eriksson No, thats not it. This is what they tried to do with Pikmin3, W101, etc. They should use some of their great IP’s, but with an unexpected twist. Like they did with Mario64 and Zelda OoT. Metroid maybe? It could attract the hardcore gamers who use a lot of money on games (they will need those because we will see a very big cut soon). Lil J Moore Get us some great games and all will be forgiven. Yen Most people that thinks Iwata sucks, and is ruining the company, probably can’t do any better. Pokemonsilph Idk why, but for some reason I like Iwata lol DragonSilths He is a kind and passionate guy who doesn’t believe in firing people. So yeah he is a great man. But he has made a lot of mistakes that could have been avoided. Flawless Victory Despite today’s adjusted sales forecasts and loss projections, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says he won’t be stepping down. ——– Iwata I hope so, because if you let things go like this…staying so lackluster and medicore you really will have to step down. However, we do appreciate the quality games you have brought to us. I don’t feel that Iwata needs to be fired now, but if it gets to that point…..sayonara to you sir. Please Understand. Laud Fired? How could be fired? 😛 Either way, I agree with you to some extent but don’t think a new person would just fix all the issues. He is responsible for the 3DS, you know. I say give him 2014 and if not then I’ll be with you. alex toschi Because shareholders of the company decided management, because it’s their money at risk. Laud Err, no. They know he’s responsible for the Wii, DS, and 3DS. They would not even dream about it. This is the transition to HD and they weren’t ready for it. And NO they do not decide company management, who the heck told you that? If that was the case Microsoft would be a huge shareholder for any competition and wipe them out by switching their management to gorillas. alex toschi Unless you work for Nintendo you have no idea what amount of participation the share holders have running the day to day, it varies within every company. At the end of a buisness quarter or a buisness year a shareholder meeting with the bard of directors could take place to replace Iwata. Unless the CEO is a majority shareholder, and founder. Yes the Wii and DS were a success, I wasn’t saying that Iwata should be replaced. In business the past is the past and money is now, and Nintendo has been projecting losses for the past three years. In no way do I think it’s smart to replace Iwata but it could happen at the end of the fiscal year. You don’t know what’s hurting Nintendo so anything you say is opinion and has little merit to me. Maybe they should have transition to HD 8 years ago when everyone else did. tronic307 PLEASE UNDERSTAND, BITCHES!!! Christopher Acuna HA! I love it! Shota i’ve never seen this one! CMB BRING BACK ARKAWA PLEASE Zorpix Having just started on the Ace Attourney series, I love this even more Magnus Eriksson Is that good? Never looked into it. Zorpix It’s so good. If you like anime, you’ll love it. If not, you still might. download the demo from the 3DS Magnus Eriksson Sadly I dont own a 3DS. I was thinking to buy one if N. made some real connectivity between it and Wii U. I know they did some, but it should be fully implemented. Zorpix it really should. It’s sorta skeletal right now, but it needs to be fleshed out Magnus Eriksson That sounds like Wii U to me. A good console with good ideas, but way too skeletal. I dont understand why N. doesnt fix one thing at a time. Hire 5 persons who fix the Virtual console, 5 persons who work with 3DS/Wii U connectivity etc. Zorpix It can NOT take much to transfer a VC game from Wii to WiiU. I refuse to believe their makeup is so different Flawless Victory Just bring the games…and when I say, “bring the games”…I mean AWESOME GAMES THAT WE WILL GET PEOPLE EXCITED! Not that chibirobo b.s…put the effort into it. Bayonetta 2, X by Monolith Soft , Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei, and Smash Bros. 4 gives me hope that you can get great games like these for the future. Pokemonsilph At least Magnus hasn’t posted here yet… he likes to be a “sarcastic” troll. Pokemonsilph Uh oh… i have a dislike… tread lightly lol (EDIT: I have 2 dislikes on this and my original comment now…) Aleks Iwata needs to be visited by 3 ghosts. The ghost of online connectivity, the ghost of actually good and classic VC games that are stupidly not available yet, and a ghost with a giant coffee so he can WAKE THE F UP to 2014 gamers needs and wants! *Disclaimer: Love Ninty. Tough love. lol. Pokemonsilph I want my N64 games on the VC already! Spencer Manigat Only N64 games? Don’t limit yourself. We should be getting getting Wii games on VC. SuperSonicBrawler Or at the very least GameCube games. Spencer Manigat Not even very least. We should be getting everything, not just somethings. NES, SNES, N64, GCN, AND Wii. Everything. And the 3DS should have NES, SNES, N64, GBC, GBA, and NDS. Everything. THAT’S what our virtual console should be. SuperSonicBrawler And I’m sure the Wii U is more than capable of supporting them all. I’m not arguing. The only reason they likely haven’t done this yet is because they don’t think the Wii U install base is big enough to make a large enough profit off them yet. It makes sense from a business standpoint, but it definitely sucks for those of us who own a Wii U. As for 3DS, its install base is more than big enough now, so Nintendo’s just being stubborn with that one… mario54671 Wii games…? *HEADDESK* Wii U is backwards compatible with Wii… why the HELL would they need to put Wii games on there? What they DO need are GameCube games, as Wii U ISN’T backwards compatible with that system. Brett Butler It’s shouldn’t be so difficult. PS3 had games from PS2 and PS1 available from their shop. I never understood the reasoning of having to start the Wii from the Wii Menu… An extra, and unnecessary step IMO. Overall, I am pretty frustrated that there aren’t more game in the VC overall. I mean, why is it taking so long? 1 or 2 games a week is not enough, especially when some of the games being presented cause reactions like “What the hell? Where is Link to the Past?” What does Nintendo have to say to all of the early investors who spent nearly $600 when the console released?? When will the payoff be? SSB and MK8 is not enough. We should have triple the amount of quality IPs released by now instead of releasing a “Wii Mini” /Rant over //Grabs rope ///hangs self mario54671 Yes, but why prioritize Wii games over, say, THE GAMECUBE? My point was, you can already play Wii games via the discs themselves. You can’t do that with GameCube games. Therefore, GameCube should be a priority, THEN Wii games. I agree, digital Wii games would be nice, but let’s start with GameCube first. SuperSonicBrawler Pretty much the only Wii game I wouldn’t mind seeing released on the VC is Xenoblade Chronicles. I’ve heard that it’s pretty good, but it’s impossible to get it anywhere for any less than like 60 bucks. It’d be nice to see it for maybe half that on the VC. Maxid765 I got xenoblade chronicles not too long ago for 60 bucks, it sucks that the game is hard to find, so it should be on VC imo because the game is great. LordiMcKill So was the Xbox 360 with Original Xbox games but they still put up about 30 Original titles on the Marketplace. Spencer Manigat …Because there is no Wii game that can be downloaded. THAT’S why. Jesus idiotic Christ. If you seriously think that the only benefit to the VC is that you play old games, you clearly don’t understand the convenience of the digital age. I guess I should be allow to download any song/movie I want, except if it was released between 2005-2010 because “DVD’s and BlueRays still exist.” Wake the hell up. mario54671 …Neither are GameCube games. In fact, GameCube games cannot be played on Wii U AT ALL. So, why prioritize Wii games over GameCube on Virtual Console when you at least can still go buy Wii discs and play them off of the Wii U directly? Meanwhile, people have NO WAY of experiencing GameCube games on Wii U, minus Wind Waker as it’s been remade. ESPECIALLY considering that Nintendo still hasn’t killed off the Wii yet… so you can easily find all the Wii games on the market still. Wii at least had the benefit of having NES, SNES, and N64 games on there while being backwards compatible with GameCube, but finding GCN games to play was a pain in the ass due to them killing it off immediately. Spencer Manigat No one ever said to prioritize anything. I never even mentioned the Gamecube. My statement was additional of the wii, not subtractive of the gamecube or any other system. Learn to read. Sam DON’T FORGET THE GCN GAMES! I’ve never owned one and I want to play them really bad. Spencer Manigat Yes! Definitely Gamecube games! NkoSekirei (facepalm) dude really didnt u realize wii u can play wii games Spencer Manigat I answer the with a quote from a prior post. “There is no Wii game that can be downloaded. THAT’S why. Jesus idiotic Christ. If you seriously think that the only benefit to the VC is that you play old games, you clearly don’t understand the convenience of the digital age. I guess I should be allow to download any song/movie I want, except if it was released between 2005-2010 because ‘DVD’s and BlueRays still exist.’ Wake the hell up.” Ace I totally agree with the VC ghost! COME ON MAN!!! Give us some great N64 and GC games already. Not like you will have licensing issues since Nintendo already owns their 1st party titles. snowsensei I haven’t really decided yet how annoyed I am with the Virtual Console. Since all my games (except for TMNT on the NES) carried over to Wii mode on the Wii-U (and I can still buy anything I want from the Wii’s shopping channel), I’m not really sure it matters if I rebuy them on the Wii-U. Is it really that big of a deal for people to have to wait 20 seconds for Wii mode to load? Is it more that people would rather play the games on the tablet? What I would rather have them do is start adding games that were never on the Wii Virtual Console (Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, Dreamcast, etc…). Actually, especially Gamecube since they dropped support for those games. Aleks Either way, there should be AT LEAST 30+ games ported to VC a month. Further, they should all have AT LEAST leaderboards or friends’ ghosts. Again, at least. This alone would make an enormous difference. I imagine it this way- i see all their classic games as products. The WiiU VC is the store, and Nintendo REFUSES to put their items on the shelf so they could sell them. How the hell do they expect to make money without anything to sell? Seriously, no one else could harm Nintys business this gravely but them. Please WAKEUP, you could rule! snowsensei Well, they are on the shelf; they’re just on the shelf in the back of the store. You have to go into Wii mode to get them, but it is all on the same machine. Someone who doesn’t own a Wii U asked me why you would rebuy them and I honestly couldn’t produce an answer. I guess so you could get rid of the old classic controllers? I really don’t know. If they added leaderboards or online multiplayer, like you suggested, they would definitely be worth the upgrades, but as it stands right now, I don’t even know what we’re paying for. They’re asking us to pay again for games that haven’t been upgraded so we can move them from one folder to another on the same machine. I guess playing them on the tablet is nice, but I feel like it doesn’t have enough buttons to really emulate the N64 or Gamecube controllers anyway. So whenever they do come out, it’s not like you’re going to hover over the gamepad holding a pro controller to play. It’s a mess. I don’t think Iwata needs to step down; I like the idea that they’re saying not every console needs to be exactly the same… if that means you buy a PS4 or Xbox One for most stuff and then buy a Wii U to have the kinds of gaming experiences you will on a Nintendo console, fine. But, you’re right, they could be making that unique experience a lot better, but stubbornly refuse. Steve Anatala I will inform you why I personally want games I have on my Wii Mode to be on Wii U. I want to play on my gamepad, and have my friends able to use Pro Controllers. They are all better than the classic controllers. And NO BATTERIES REQUIRED! The wii controllers feel dirt cheap, not comfy at all. And The gamepad actually has one more button than the gamecube controller, and more buttons than N64 if you count the C buttons as a second analog stick, so I don’t know how you thought that the gamepad didn’t have enough buttons to do either. So let’s see: more comfortable controls, no more buying batteries, also save state feature. Trust me there are lots of people like me who think the same way, I have friends with Wii Us who want their classics on their gamepad as well. So yea, there are lots of people who would buy them. I would LOVE Super Mario 64 on my gamepad (I’m patiently waiting for it lol). Yea I can play it on my Wii U through Wii mode but I don’t really like the classic controllers, even my gold classic pro. Those are my reasons for wanting VC games on the Wii U that are already on Wii and lots of other peoples reasons. Aleks I picture the VC ghost as that big hand boss in SmashBros smacking Iwata while he “please understand” and “patience” until he gets it. Im big on tough love lol. Luis Carlos Pando And also they have to bring a new system update which allows us to use our f*cking Game Pads to play ALL of the Wii Mode Virtual Console games. At least… Agent721 !!! Well said!! Agent721 I want the achievement ghost…where’s he at??? DragonSilths Nah. Aleks Option. Turn achievements on _. Turn achievements off _. Everybody’s happy. I’d love the option. DragonSilths It already is that way. The option is for the Devs though. Remember Ubisoft with Uplay did it with games like ZombiU. I don’t need a pat on the back for doing something like beat a level on 3 separate difficulties. Keyser The ghosts of Nintendo’s past! They will appear in the form of Fox, Captain Falcon, and Hiroshi Yamauchi! In that order! Nope.avi You mean we will be mean to third parties to the point where they all jump ship to Sony again? Rich Garriques LMFAO I FUKING LOVE THIS COMMENT , COMMENT OF THE YEAR!!! LopsidedPasta I completely agree. But if I had said that, a bunch of dbags would’ve called me “shallow” and “stupid. And you retards know who you are. Anyways, congrats Aleks for speaking the truth and not getting a rash of crap for it. Don’t expect it to last too long though. Aleks I’m a giant Nintendo fan. So giant in fact that i will not be silent or blind to their failings when/if they have them. Speak your voice Mr.Pasta, whatever it is. There is no such thing as universal popularity and i live for the haters, they are a regular source of validating joy lol. Thanks. Dáibhí wotshissurname I usually dont back Iwata hate, but afte his I am in board. Aleks Zero hate. Just tough, humorous love. Mario Wow! That would be a really painful visit. The Clockwork Being Hell yeah. Hopefully this serves as a WAKE UP CALL! Shigeru Miyamoto I’m afraid I did visited him for the VC games years ago. Super Buu I couldn’t have put it better than what you did here. Satoru Iwata Please understand. I will not go down without a fight, and will bring the Wii U in greatness. In Iwata you shall trust. To those who are looking for my early exit. You can all suck it and deal with it. You wish you can be Nintendo. Thank you for supporting Nintendo. P.S. Very sorry for my poor mannerisms. I had too much Sake this morning and don’t have a clear head yet. Excuse me very much. Pokemonsilph Obviously the real Iwata… lol thedragonslayr how could people think that that is him Mithiragi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pwT2wiZsg0 I guess this explains your mindset right now? Nostalgic_Chaos Satoru Iwata lives in a bubble… Josie the Sketcher I’m sensing a Nintendo Direct coming very soon and (we hope) will be all about new games and enhancements to the Wii U console. Satoru Iwata Next Nintendo Direct will reveal a new Mario and Donkey Kong game. We are confident this is what our fans want to play. We appreciate your concerns very much. Thank you for supporting Nintendo. Mithiragi FUCK YOU IWATA-SANNNNNN!!! REVOLT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iOZVj1jgm8 alex toschi Jesus what the hell is that noise? Mithiragi Mexican Metal LOL alex toschi Haha diffrent strokes for different folks but If I heard that on the radio in my car I’d probably drive myself into a ditch. Mithiragi Nah I don’t listen to this type of music lol. I just typed in Revolution Metal on google to find a song about dethroning a dictator and i found this lol Virus6 So one misstep and everyone wants his head? Did people forget how he managed to salvage the Gamecube, sell the DS/Wii to the masses and turn around the 3DS? It brought Nintendo immense amounts of new gamers into the market and made them a fortune that makes them worth more than Sony. I’d say it’s too early to call for blood. If at the end of Wii U’s life, the console was still selling terrible, then I’d say he needs to go. It can still be turned around. Give the man some time to correct his wrongs. Mithiragi Ok I’ll give him one more try. 😉 But if $hit stays the same by January 2015, off with his head. Also, somebody has to help him out. Hire someone to be his righthand man. The DS and 3DS were/are successful because there is no competition in the handheld market and the Wii was different enough to bring in the casual crowd. I admit he did work on the Gamecube because he brought great games and variety to the system. The Wii U needs great games and variety. MarkyT Even if we get a new Nintendo Direct, they won’t offer us any valuable information on the subject or surprise us with an awesome VC announecment. It would be about an alternate costume for Diddy Kong or something stupid like that which just makes us angry for wasting our time watching the Direct and getting us excited for an announcement that is so minuscule they could’ve tweeted it instead of uploading a 45 minute video! Mithiragi HEED THE CALL. JOIN YOUR BRETHREN AND LET’S TAKE HIM DOWN. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=146ITLW3Ytg Nintenjoe82 So many people have been at Nintendo since Iwata has been working there. I think the jump to HD has caused them to stutter but losing someone who has been involved in their game making since I’ve been gaming would be a tragedy to the company. Complete any SNES game and look for his name in the credits. If anything was to happen to him it would be pretty bad for Nintendo’s morale and they might risk losing all the people that built today’s Nintendo with him. It would be like seeing the guy who gave you your job being fired from being your boss after 30 years of being a really good boss. People should be careful what they wish for because we could get Peter Moore as the next chief of Nintendo. Kevin Wickham man….. iwata is such a great man…….. i’ll give him props Super Mattio Look Nintendo, start giving us announcements of games such as F Zero, Starfox, Wave race, Metroid etc. Games like these are what die hard Nintendo fans want! It’s all very well looking at a wider audience but I know plenty of people that would buy and support Wii u if you made these hardcore franchises shine again! You would certainly win back Nintendo fans of old who grew up playing these franchises! Make it happen and turn Wii U’s chances around! alex toschi I’m pretty sure most of the “die hard” Nintendo fans have bought the Wii U. what they need is more core gamers. unfortunately the Wii brand is killing those chances as well as the lack of more mainstream titles and 3rd party support. oontz exactly Super Mattio Nintendo, increase the Virtual Console too! Give us several games monthly! Include N64, GC and advertise it! Shout it out! We don’t want a Dreamcast dilemma! The snes was always my favourite console! Get this Wii u back to the heady days of when Nintendo stood proud and it’s fans were inspired! You can do this! Virus6 The reason why they don’t release those games is because they aren’t ‘system sellers’ like Zelda. The funny thing is that they still sell pretty well. A lot of games would kill to sell 1 million copies. As long as they develop the game with that sort of payoff in mind, they can put out all of those titles. Variety will help sell the console, not just 5 Mario games. oontz “Games like these are what die hard Nintendo fans want!” Diehard Nintendo fans have already BOUGHT a wiiu… we aren’t the problem. Michael Collins I know this is maybe a little off topic here, ,but what the hell! I am going to say it anyways. Where are the JRPGs? I remember when I was a kid, we had great stuff like Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 2 and 3, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Breath of Fire, etc. Being a lonely gaming nerd, those games kept me busy and non depressed for hours on end. I am also not an idiot, well at least on that topic, and I know those were all 3rd party games. However, I know that the house of N has the clout to make their own. Yes! I love Zelda and that is a great “Action RPG”, but the RPG crowd is being neglected severely. If you make it, they will come!!!! Mithiragi Except for Earthbound. That’s a Nintendo ip. Can’t count Ness out yo! Michael Collins Doh! I did f that one up. Good call! Well, the point remains the same…I hate getting my story fix from FPS and platformers! Mithiragi Lol. I’m still waiting for Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger to be put on the eShop. I heard Terranigma was good as well, but X will surely quench our thirst for a good JRPG. Michael Collins Yeah I wanted to comment on X. However, it sadlyfeels like one of those games that could just fall off the radar for a year or two. I could also see N trying not to give it to us, as they did with Xenoblade. With that being said, I am hoping that maybe Sega will continue to play nice with us and hook us up with Persona 5. One can hope…one can hope. Mithiragi I think X will be released in America because it was shown in a US Nintendo Direct and at E3. Don’t forget we will also have FEXSMT sometime in the future as well. Didn’t Atlus announce Persona 5 for the Vita but not the Wii U? If so, that’s just stupid lol Michael Collins Well, it is just Jan. Hopefully Iwata will knock our socks off and let us know that X will come out in March or something. However, I am not feeling it. I think we are going to hear about Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 for the first half of the year. However, those games will definitely move systems. So, YEY for those ones! As for Persona 5, it sold really well on the Vita, as I understand it. So, I would say it is definitely coming out on that system. Since the IP now belongs to Sega, and Sega and Nintendo seem to be buddies these days……I am hoping they surprise us with that announcement. If Sega has no plans to release it on the Wii u, then Iwata needs to pull out his Master Card and get on his Knees and beg! Mithiragi I’ve never played Persona but always see people praising it so it must be good. If it comes to Wii U, I’ll surely buy it. Since Sega is buddies with Nintendo now, imagine if they put Shenmue 3 on the Wii U? Michael Collins Well, it hard to tell these days. As Sega has stated that there are no plans to put the new Alien game on the Wii U. I guess that could be considered a good thing, if we are are looking at their past Alien games. However, it would seem like a sure fit, because we got shafted on the last Alien game. It could be that even Sega is a little weary of porting over everything they do to the Wii U. On that note, I would gladly give Sega/ Wii U 60 bucks to get back into the Shenmue world. Mithiragi Yup you’re right. It probably is a good thing because I heard the last Alien game sucked a$$ lol. It looks like Nintendo has to rely mostly on 1st and 2nd party this gen because 3rd party support is very little. Hopefully, they’ll pull through. C4 No, Persona 5 is announced for PS3. They are weird spin-offs for each Vita and 3DS announced as well. Vita gets a music game, 3DS looks like a dungeon game or something. P4G for Vita sold more then P4 on PS2 though! Mithiragi Kinda like how Kingdom Hearts has weird spin-offs? lol C4 Most games you mention are Square Enix IPs. They don’t make a new Valkyrie Profile or Chrono regardless of hardware and if I dunno if they would be that good… well, on the other they made Bravely Default for 3DS which looks great 🙂 Nintendo 1st parties Monolith (X, Xenoblade) and 1-up (Fantasy Life (3DS) ) has some people who worked at Square previously and of course they are also working on RPGs. There’s also Mistwalker which did one Wii game (The Last Story) – I hope they will work with Nintendo in the future. Wii U currently is missing whole genres as there’s no exclusive RPG, racing, fighting, shooter or sports game (except Wii Sports) . In perception one good game often doesn’t make up for one “missing” game… Michael Collins C4…All really good points and facts. My concern isn’t with the 3DS, because that system is kicking a$$ and taking names just fine. However, it does serve as an example of my point. You can have some of the finest current RPG experiences on a 3DS, and it is the number one selling system in the US! I think Nintendo just needs to break down and lower the Wii U to 199, and throw a few quality RPGs are way. I don’t mean HD paint job classics either. I mean no disrespect for Windwaker HD, as I did my part and bought a copy. Its just that I want new Zelda and new RPGs! Call me greedy but that is how I roll.. Yuma Tsukumo Please Understand? ZyroXZ2 I like Iwata because he stands his ground on good morals: don’t lay people off to meet budgets; keep Nintendo games on Nintendo systems; don’t go down without a fight. I DO actually believe Iwata can turn this around, they’ve already stated that 23 billion yen has been allotted towards advertising, development, and business restructure (that’s $219.9 million). That’s a lot of money, things are going to happen for nearly $219.9 million, lol CEObrainz As long as I get my Metroid, F-Zero and Star Fox this generation I have no problems with this guy. Zzyzx Good luck We’ll probably get more casual shovelware instead, since Nintendo seems to stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the casual gaming market is gone Adam Porter biggest problem with this is how does he turn the ship around whilst still using the wiiU to steer it, price drops didn’t help, none of the big titles so far helped, with the wiiU as it’s main console nintendo are looking at 5-6 more years of this. Leo Iwata will pull a kamikaze like a real japanese warrior lol Sam …This REALLY needs to change. unfortunately, I can’t do anything about it. I just bought a WiiU. Everyone else who has one can’t do anything either. If you don’t have one. PLEASE buy one. We need to help Nintendo out here. They need our help. BADLY. TalesOfBS No, they need to stop screwing their own customers. Nintendo have the money to secure good quality third party ports of AAA games, re-release the best Wii games in HD, give us the GC VC and make their online services better. Yet, they just don’t do it. Also, remove that stupid region lock. Conando You can’t honestly think paying for ports is a viable strategy. Reason Who cares about multiplatform games? You buy console for exclusives, right? Zzyzx No, you buy a console for exclusives AND multiplat games. Why the hell would you want to buy the one system that doesn’t have multiplatform games? Zzyzx To hell with them, why would you buy a Wii U just enable all the things that are making the company bomb right now? They aren’t losing money because they’re down on their luck, they’re losing money because of terrible management and decisions. Something has to change Chad Dodsworth Nintendo needed this kick in the ass, they need to adapt to change in this constantly evolving ecosystem of gaming. Imagine if Nintendo did what Playstation is doing with PSNOW, Example: Chad “Hey man, do you have a Nintendo? Dude “Nope” Chad “Did you know that you can pay $7 a month for a massive back catalog subscription reaching from the Famicom (NES) to the Wii?” Dude “WHAT!” Chad “You can play any classic, at any time, and only pay $7 a month” Dude “I’m getting a Nintendo after work!” Chad “Also, the same goes for your 3DS you have been thinking about buying for the past year” Dude “BARF” Virus6 I think you don’t exactly understand what PSNow is about. It’s about streaming PS3 games to tablets and Smart TVs. Chad Dodsworth I’m not sure you do. Gaikai will be interwoven with PSNOW allowing classic games to be played across current gen systems. How is what I’m saying any different? http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/01/07/sony-reveals-streaming-service-playstation-now “Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Now will be a subscription-based service” Conando “Streaming”. There’s that pesky little word. It makes the service completely void in half of the United States alone. Online Infastructure is not good enough to stream modern games. Mario Iwata, I think you’re a great guy. a guy filled with passion and wisdom. But even you can make mistakes. Virus6 He has a great image for the company, but he’s been going about it the wrong way. I’ve done my part in purchasing the console because I know about what will come onto the console, but they’ve done a terrible job in selling to the people who DONT know what the console is about wober2 I feel like they did a bad job selling to people who know what the console is too. “Gamers” seemingly think it is under-powered and full of rehashed games, and casuals were really confused. btw i love my wiiu and 3ds… Virus6 Well, in comparison to the other consoles, it is under-powered. And most of that mentality exists just because of media bias like IGN. As soon as some big name says it, all of their loyal followers say it as well, regardless whether its true or not. But yeah, just a terrible job marketing it in general. Mario Ahh… Yeah… Ace I wonder what Iwata thinks about the massive western criticism he’s receiving… Assuming of course he listens to anything western. Virus6 The biggest problem with where Nintendo is right now is that even if Iwata manages to put some things in place to turn around the company, you won’t see it for quite some time. Even if they want to belt out a ton of unique new services and software, it will still take time to make them. This year will probably trudge along, but next year we should start to see their fruits of labor Krzysztof Here’s my advice … START ADVERTISING! Mo Mo Why is everyone so up in arms? The U is a great system. When it’s all said and done it will probably go down as a Gamecube-like system(unappreciated for it’s time, but ultimately appreciated. I agree with the points made about the VC game, I agree that those should be coming much, much quicker…but what would we have them do? Nintendo is great because the do things the Nintendo way. When the smoke clears, we will all have what we want from the system. TheGamerGeek128 He needs to stop apologizing and start making changes or step down. Edit: My body is ready to be flamed for this comment. TalesOfBS No, you are right. CCM As someone who grew up with Nintendo, the current state of the Wii U saddens me. I bought one at launch because…well…I’ve bought EVERY Nintendo system EVER (even the Virtual Boy). And although over the years I’ve defended them to the death, maybe it is time for them to restructure and focus on their strengths. Keep the 3DS handheld division and expand into mobile devices as well. But ditch the home console and instead release their 1st party franchise AAA games on the PS4 and Xbox One. I don’t say this with any pleasure or satisfaction, in fact it upsets me greatly, but at the same time this may be a reality for Nintendo in the near future 🙁 TalesOfBS Cool story. 1/10 CCM Glad you enjoyed it ;P Yen Those great 1st party franchises would not be nearly as good on the other systems. Nintendo makes their system to make their games their own way. That’s how their franchises stay good through so many generations. Reason “expand into mobile devices as well” when will you get it… it will kill nintendo if you can play nintendo games on mobiles why buy 3ds? It will not happened in near future for sure it’s just most stupid decision they can make. Try think with your brain. CCM You’re the one who needs to think with your brain. I wasn’t suggesting to bring full on versions of their AAA franchises to mobile devices. First of all $30 – $40 per game would be way too high on the App Store. But more importantly, all-touchscreen gaming sucks ass and would ruin most 3DS games if they ever ported them over. I’ll take analog sticks and physical buttons over touchscreen gaming any day. I meant more like mini-games and offshoots starring their recognizable franchise characters that they could sell for between $1.00 – $5.00 on the App or Google Play Stores. So like some of the Warioware games, Dr. Luigi, Link’s Crossbow Training etc. I mean if there’s money to be made in that space and it wouldn’t be competing head-to-head with the 3DS’s game library why wouldn’t you as a Nintendo fan want to see them make it? Rinslowe Nintendo’s been under the microscope for too long. What a flippin bore, all this talk about their financials and executives – tbh. Smartest thing they can do now is to get on with a Jan direct already. And get us fans all thinking about the games again… I get enough of this rubbish in the “real world” lol, I suppose quite a few of us do now… Arthur Jarret The Jan direct will likely be close to the 31st of the month, as that’s when their quarterly financial meeting usually is and they like to keep these two revealing events close together JuleyJules You are probably right that the Direct will be close to the 31st but it would be good for them to have the direct next week to try to get back some positive news before the meeting on the 29th where they discuss the future. This direct needs to be a focused one with release dates of games for 2014, news on ones we haven’t heard in a while plus surprise announcement as well as some news on 3rd party games coming. An update would be good again too and other VC content with quicker release times for that including N64 and GC games. If they do another price drop as was mentioned in another article today they need to do an ambassador program for fans who have been buying the system. They also need to pick it up with releases as the wait for another month until DKC:TF is released is ridiculous! That needs to be moved up and MK8 needs to come out in early March. Without some of these things (wishful thinking I know) it might be far too late to turn things around. As time goes on Sony & MS get further and further ahead. Don’t get me wrong I love my Wii U but they’ve really got to do something. Otherwise, this time next year could be very bleak for Nintendo even more than it is now. All the talk I’ve seen about Nintendo releasing on other platforms is a mistake imo as the games will lose some of their charm. I like Nintendo systems personally for their games but have no interest in the other systems. I doubt I’m the only Nintendo fan who would not bother to buy other systems just to play Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid etc. Besides the games would be mixed in with other 3rd party games that typically sell in huge numbers on Sony & MS like COD, Halo, EA Sports etc etc. For Nintendo systems they are unique. LordiMcKill My reckless (and ridiculous) thought to this whole situation is this: Nintendo needs to release a cheap expansion to the Wii U console itself to add more RAM and thus more power to the console and title it Wii U+. This would make third party developers more happy with the consoles power and would bring in more games and thus more sales overall and everybody would be happy. Then with enough marketing to raise the install base, Nintendo could then start bundling it in with the hardware for no extra charge and again everybody would be happy and the sales would go through the roof and the Wii U+ would stand tall as one of the greatest console that was ever released. However, in the realistic world world we live in, this would probably never happen but we can only dream. Reason This expansion will kill wii u for sure. And third party doesn’t release games cuz there is not a lot wii u out there. that’s all not power of console is the reason. GmailIsDown not really. third party developers all jumped ship because their games don’t sell enough. their games don’t sell enough because not enough people have wii u. it is not all about raw hardware power. just take a look at Vita and 3DS. if they still want to compete in the home console market, discontinue wii u and release a console with comparable or better hardware (than PS4 and Xbox One), x86 architecture, and better SDK. no strange dual screen setup and weak, crippled CPU. this is so that it will be much more easier for developers to port games from PC or other consoles to the new console. take more time to smooth out the SDK. have their 1st party developers create a big line-up of modern Nintendo staple games. and release the new console in the holiday season when the 3rd or 4th revisions of PS4 and Xbox Ones are released. they may hit red this year, but they have enough cash reserve to afford mistakes like this. babulibaba What Nintendo needs is a new CEO. I like Iwata and his ideology of games selling systems, but it’s not working. We need a new CEO who understands the modern consumer, one who will go out, find some people with good backgrounds in operating systems, connectivity, hardware, and online networks, similar to how they went out of their way to find people to work on Mario strikers. They ave no idea on how to deal with tech either. I love my Wii U, but it’s sad that hardware designers are ordered by people who no nothing about software to make a console where size, shape, and noise are more important than power and features. Yen Um… I don’t know what hardware designers you’ve been talking to. But I personally would rather my techs not overheat and sound like a chainsaw. Power and features are important but there IS such a thing as too much. Too much of them is just a waste of resources most of the time. Spencer Manigat Iwata also said that they would cut the price of the Wii U. Nintendofreak mr iwata u should step down or my army of skulltula will force u… u.u GmailIsDown creepy Guest today nintendo stocks took a big hit, down by 17%. Im sad. Donaald I saw you using the upvote hack. How lame… Aleks Sad hippo 🙁 Magnus Eriksson They need to fire Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto. Sell their IP’s to responsible companies and discontinue all hardware production. Alexander Kleinwechter That’s a joke right? Tiago Gomes Magnus Eriksson do u come to this website only to say bad things about nintendo? Really?! This is the 3rd post e see and you are always on them to say bad things about wiiu etc. If you dont like Nintendo why do you bother comming to this site?! Magnus Eriksson Third post??? Ive posted 2400 posts on this site 🙂 blindtiger youre avoiding the question… id like to know too. juancamiloarq Please, read his posts, he is probably the most sarcastic WiiU Daily reader in the whole website. He enjoys you people saying things like this over and over again. Marcus is simply Nintendo at heart, he know’s it. blindtiger weird… i dont understand written sarcasm. its not funny if nobody knows youre being sarcastic. TaintedXGamer Where the Down vote hack?! I want to down vote this comment 200+ times! Nintendo Dragon How dare you disrespect the name of Miyomoto he is a fucking legend. Nintendo Dragon They don’t need to discontinue anything I’d hate for Microsoft to take any Nintendo IP because all they would do is break the games soul, Sony would probably just stop making the IP’S like they did with all of their IP’s so Nintendo needs to stay.. It’s all about the direction taken and it will improve have some hope just don’t disrespect Miyomoto, because he has singlehandedly inspired most of the game designers out there right now making games. josh Nintendo is bombing! Something needs a dramatic change.. why are we, the fans, the only ones who are able to acknowledge that? Nintendo is beginning to look like one man unable to accept defeat.. Rob Nintendo is in a tough spot. They are still producing great products. It’s gamers that have changed. Nintendo would have to sell out and cater to the FPS shooter, interactive story driven “movie” games to succeed. It’s not the good old days anymore when people wanted a challenge over a cheap thrill. Zzyzx Bullshit. Most people just aren’t impressed with the low quality specs, lack of third party support, and heavy casual gamer vibe (calling it the Wii U was the worst idea ever.) They just need to start pumping out games. I mean think about the Wii after its first year or two, they already had Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, and Smash Bros Brawl. That’s a ton of hype for both hardcore gamers and Nintendo fans a like. The closest the Wii U has to getting a ton of hype was Mario 3D World, which initially looked to everyone to just be a New Super Mario Bros game in 3D. They need AAA titles with appeal and they haven’t delivered much yet. Rob Well I thought Arkham Origins and even COD Ghosts looked decent on the Wii U. I am not sure how it compared to the PS4, but to be honest I am not extremely impressed by either PS4 or XBOne. ShinyLatios wii u is a great console,as long as nintendo makes consoles ill stand by them no matter what. BrandonIsAGod I love Mr Iwata and all, but like come on. If Nintendo’s stuff is doing so poorly (I understand that the lack of software is what’s hurting them), somebody needs to take the blame and step aside, or be fired. Nintendo’s lack of third-party support is pathetic, and the rate on which first or second-party games are released just don’t cut it. I do my share by buying all of the games I can, from 2012-2014 alone, I have bought a 3DS, 3DS XL, Wii U, and a 2DS. As well as 14 Wii U games and 27 3DS games. I want Nintendo to succeed, they’re currently the only company of this generation that I see any hope in content-wise as of now. Nintendo needs a president who has the balls to establish strong relationships with third-party developers and who is also able to tell people who go faster when it comes to game development time. I get that they need to put the golden seal of quality on their games, but they do need to smash out games faster if they don’t get a lot of third-party support. They need a president who can understand that they need to do extremely well in places other than Japan. They need to adapt to the current gaming market. They can still release their light-hearted games like Mario and Kirby, but also need to release those games that’ll appeal to the older North-American and European gamers. Cmon, Nintendo. You can do it. Just somebody needs to take the blame for it’s unfortunately pathetic performance. I will stand with Nintendo until either the end of it’s time, or the end of my time. GmailIsDown it may be a Japanese tradition for someone in the company to take the blame “for the greater good”. but i don’t think he should step down just because someone needs to take the blame. Nintendo was lagging behind technologically before the Wii era, but they were able to compete with innovation. and innovation always carries great risk. Wii was hugely successful and took the world by storm. 3DS was not doing well initially due to the added cost of 3D, but they were able to rebound after a big price cut. and these all happened under his management. Wii U may be a failed experiment and Nintendo may have long lost their edge to compete with Sony in Japan and Microsoft overseas in the home console market, but this is not necessarily something he could change. BrandonIsAGod I don’t believe that the Wii U is a failed experiment at all. I just think that the horrific lack of software for the console, and the poor marketing strategies are what hurt it so much. Also, the name of the console doesn’t help much either. While the confusion of the gaming world isn’t entirely Nintendo’s fault, the name Wii U doesn’t work as well in places other than Japan. Nintendo thinks that people are smarter than they actually are. The Xbox One also has a stupid name, but they made it extremely clear that it is their next-gen console, whereas Nintendo had to wait till the E3 after the initial reveal that the Wii U is their next-gen console, and still didn’t succeed because they put so much emphasis on the gamepad and nothing else. Yes, people’s confusion may just be because of the sheer bias towards Nintendo, but a name like ‘Wii 2″ or ‘Wii TU’ (pronounced as two/too) would have been better, because the name alone would have defined ‘successor’. I’m not exactly saying that Iwata needs to step down, because obviously all of the blame cannot be directed towards him, but most of the time, when a company is doing poorly on the financial side, the fault leads you to somewhere in the management team. I’m pretty sure that the disaster in Japan didn’t help their situation much, but they do need to step up their game to make the Wii U as great as it can be. Nintendo can afford to lose money consistently for years, but it does come to a point where they need to look far down the road and see that if they don’t change things now, then the future will look fairly bleak. 2014 is going to be a great year for the Wii U, and for Nintendo, but the lack of third-party support in which those games could keep people busy during the time that we wait for their first and second-party titles doesn’t help at all. Nobody wants to invest the money into a console when there are other options in which there are more games being released on. Yes, the PS4 and Xbox One are now experiencing the exact same drought that the Wii U faced for all of 2013, but they at least have all of the third-party support that they need. Plus the PS3 and Xbox 360 are still being supported, so those who have haven’t yet adopted an 8th-gen console still have no real reason to buy a new console yet. Josie the Sketcher Remember that song from Chumbawumba called “Tubthumper” Nintendo should adapt this song as their motto. “I get knocked down, but I get up again, you’re never gonna keep me down” C.S. Bailey At the end of the day, it looks like they need to play the “pay to port” game a bit more aggressively. They aren’t new to it, but they aren’t that familiar either. Skelterz I read this article and the one below it yesterday this is my favourite wii u news website but seriously a not to the people that write these articles i feel that they can be to short in information E.G i read the same article elsewhere with more detail, and that they can be late to update the site with new updates im not trolling i think this site is great and the community that post here are pretty cool to but its about news so you gotta be on the ball or eventually they will lose people that use this site. David Lein Lack of software seriously if that was the problem Nintendo would be fine. Nintendo’s problem is their name. Seriously, how many Sony fanboys ignored re4, fire emblem, viewtiful Joe, eternal darkness during the GameCube days and said “dur Nintendo had no games” we have morona who are essentially playing PS3 games on ps4. So I don’t think it’s software. People just hate Nintendo . It’s ridiculous Sony fans pretended re4 never existed on the gc. Now it’s hitching Nintendo has no games. Name one good ps4 game that isn’t on PS3. The fact is the PlayStation brand has more power than Nintendo. Sony can get away with it. The fact people buy a ps4 due to it’s turf lineup is proof. Fyi I love my PS2 and PS3 but I also own a gc. For u gamers that looked over it just caused it said Nintendo seriously shame on u Adam Howell I think that people saw the very good 2013 ps3 game lineup and expected the same quality on the ps4. There were good games on the Wii U that year but it didn’t get any big name exclusives (other than Mario) and it missed almost all the big name multiplats like Gta V and Bioshock infinite. They still do expect great stuff to come to the ps4 and the fact Sony has big third party support, and they now make good first party games, it means at some point in the future they might well get he same quality as the ps3 at some point. I think he low quality ports at launch did a lot of damage to the Wii U amongst gamers. It did seem like a step back and was a truly terrible launch which kick off the trend for constant Wii U bashing blogs which they’ve yet to overcome. David Lein Well that’s something people have expected since psx. Sony has the luxury of starting off weak. The ps2 really wasn’t strong in it’s start, but it still sold very well.Ever since Nintendo fell off with the n64 they have gotten a reputation if having no games. The argument still continued despite them bringing squaresoft Capcom and konami games back on gc. Lime how many people played re4 on gc? how many knew it had a fantastic lineup of original games, but still finished way dead last. PlayStations reputation is so unassailable that it even succeeded when it launched with warriors of might and magic and while the critically acclaimed broadcast died. Nintendo has a bad rep and has to captivate the cconsumer from the start. The wii did that. Sony can ride its coattails for a year and the heavy hitters will come to maintain that pace DC777 I loved the Gamecube, probably my favorite system of all time. They took a big risk on mini discs which was supposed to be the future but…never happened. It had some great games it’s just that ps2 had a LOT more. That’s when GTA became all the rage and using it as a cd player was another cool bonus. Skipped the Wii because playing normal games with motion control was simply annoying. David Lein Well GTa did not come out til 2002 I believe. Sony pretty much still sold well with nearly a year of crap games. It managed to ruin Sega despite the fact the dc had alot of critically acclaimed games. I am just saying Sony can get away with it. Cause consumers are more willing to buy anything with the label “PlayStation”. I think people should just come out and say they hate Nintendo. I don’t think people who bought a console with that launch title warriors of might and magic or how they’re essentially playing games on a last gen console are really concerned about games Nintendoro Same here. GC was my favorite too. Still got it, still works 🙂 Super Mattio Nintendo, hit us with software and advertise heavily! Make F Zero, stick it in clubs (remember wipeout and sony). Get Metroid on big screens regularly like cod and the like always do! Basically make Nintendo great! you have an amazing back catalogue of games, you just need to take a leaf out of Sony’s book, and advertise and market better! I love Nintendo, always have and always will! Adam Porter biggest problem with wiiU is probably online connectivity, and the socializing aspect of it, i have a wiiU for a year now and i don’t know how or if i even can chat with a friend on it outside of a game, how do i use the video chat feature they emphasised heavily on, either these things don’t exist on wiiU yet or they have made a poor job of making it clear how to do them. most of the UI is great but for online stuff it’s messier than a box of kitten in a blender. Yen … there is an icon on your home screen called Wii U Chat… Shaise I still respect him but…I was hoping that we would get a new aggressive president like Hiroshi Yamauchi. Leo Hiroshi Yamauchi is wriggling on his coffin right now. alex toschi Why is he on the coffin? Did he get out because it was a bit stuffy in there? Green I honestly think Iwata is a fine CEO, I think he may have hit a slump, but him stepping down isn’t the answer. They just need to realize what they’ve done wrong, and then learn from this mistake. DC777 To most people the logo probably looks like another Wii with some design after it, why would they bother looking further at it when they may already have a Wii. Just call it Nintendo already. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120922205734/burger-king/images/c/c5/Wii_U_Logo.png Rick Valenta He should comit Hari Kari with a Wii-mote while playing Red Steel 2. But seriously it is time for a change up. That’s the ways things are done if a publicly traded company doesn’t perform.. Kenshin0011 I agree with him not quitting, because it would be a bit premature. Now if this time next year wii u doesn’t get better performance AND ps4/xbone thrive, then Iwata should step down Simon Stevens Still don’t understand why they just don’t make an all for one, one for all sort of system, have a handheld and have a micro console version, one big ass install base all under one roof, maybe next gen?, as long as it’s cheap and has good games that run at an acceptable resolution, I’d buy it 🙂 I imported the Vita tv and love it, it’s the future, wish Ninty would look toward it for a change Brent McCardell I feel like as soon as you have to say, I’m not quitting, its the first step on the path to getting fired. Nintendo doesn’t need to stop being Nintendo, if they did that then we would have 3 consoles that essentially did the same thing. I think Nintendo should focus on expanding; buy some studios. People buy Nintendo systems to play Nintendo games, and if they can’t get 3rd parties to make games, then make them yourself. If youve never played ZombiU, it actually has a ton of potential that could be realized if given another chance. If Ubisoft won’t make it, try to buy the IP. make it Nintendo’s answer to Dark Souls.A first person shooter set in the metroid universe. A Mario kart utilizing the entire Nintendo ( And Sega) rosters… speaking of Sega, start buying some of the IPs they don’t seem to care about anymore, expand the catalog that way ( let’s all stop a moment and imagine the panzer dragoon game Retro would make…or Miyamoto’s Sonic game….) I doubt if Nintendo is able to “win” this generation, but they could make a profit by making more and better games! The Wii sold over 100 million units; if they can upgrade just a quarter of those people, that’s 25 million Wii u consoles; at this point, they’d take it, I would imagine. SomeFluffer64 How about they do the following: -Introduce cross-buy program for Wii U and 3DS -Merge the Virtual Consoles for Wii U and 3DS -ACTUALLY UPDATE THE VIRTUAL CONSOLE WITH N64, GBA, AND GAMECUBE -Bring back Starfox, F-Zero, ect. -Speed up development of Zelda U -Sign more third-party exclusive deals ala Sonic Lost World and Hyrule Warriors -Have Miyamoto design an online FPS leo If only Hiroshi Yamauchi were here…. Nintendoro Is he still employed ? …. disqus_Dk6KM2972y Its reggie who needs to step down, and they need more 3rd party games. William Cole He shouldn’t step down either, they just have to adapt. Change with the times Nintendo, try to be relevant and relateable. Ash Saba Why not bring out a controller and games for iOS devices Goheels999 When is SSB coming out? Tired of weekly pictures! Get the last games out the door so the Wii U owners can get their moneys worth out of this console before you abandon it. Jones Philip ——–SIMPLE SOLUTION——- (MAKE A NINTENDO CELL PHONE) !!!!!!! YES YOU’VE HEARD IT HERE FIRST !!!!!! Jones Philip THAT RUMOR ALONE SHOULD STRIKE WORLD WIDE ATTENTION. I HOPE NINTENDO SEES THIS. I’m very concerned with Nintendo and I never comment to anything online unless to situations like this. This is just part of the evolution stage of this company. You can still set the stage by not beating the competition but by joining them. Then began to show them your uniqueness that will stand out from the crowd. HEY YOU NEVER KNOW IT COULD BECOME THE NEXT IPHONE. NINTENDO PHONE SOUNDS VERY GOOD TO ME 😉 Jones Philip Im a hardcore PC gamer.I love Intel and Nvidia.I love my Playstation and I own a PS vita, Wii U and 3ds. I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. My favorite video game of all time is The Legend of Zelda Oot. I love great things. IF NINTENDO SEES THIS THAT NINTENDO PHONE WOULD BE AMONG THOSE GREAT THINGS. bugart19 I’m a diehard Nintendo fan but I do have to admit, Nintendo’s decision to sit back and not properly prepare for the consoles launch with system selling games ready for market is just irresponsible. I like the hardware but if I had to complain, it would be why Nintendo did not try harder to bring specs and capability of hardware for developers to make multi platform games along with PS4 and Xbox One. Arthur Sataine Personally, I view the degrading quality of gamer as affecting Nintendo. 90% of gamers today are self associated as “hardcore.” This crowd limits its experiences by focusing solely on big hitters, annual releases, and consider graphics a deciding factor in purchases. They have lost touch of what makes a game great. This leaves True Gamers and Casual Gamers in the minority. The prior want to experience all sorts of games that span all genres. They appreciate graphics, but acknowledge them as the least important aspect of a game. Casual gamers just play whatever they find fun, whenever they can. And there is nothing wrong with that. I expect 90% of you to get angry. That’s fine. Just shows me you are the Hardcore Gamer. True Gamers will understand what I mean. And to you, I tip my hat.
