[Update: A mod on the Volition forums has spoken and stated that the game will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Unfortunate.]

When THQ went bankrupt earlier this year, many thought their beloved franchises would die off, too. Thankfully that’s not the case, as Deep Silver rescued Volition Games and the Saints Row franchise and will now serve as publisher for the series. The latest installment is Saint’s Row IV and will be released August 20th in the United States and August 23rd everywhere else.

The official announcement of the game only states “next-gen consoles” as the target, so we’re not sure if the game will be available for Wii U or not. Nintendo fans have been lobbying pretty hard for Grand Theft Auto V, so Deep Silver could definitely win some brownie points by making the game available to Wii U owners.

Much like Saints Row 3, the fourth installment appears to be full of over the top sandbox fun. Let us know your thoughts below.

  • This game looks insane. I loved the third. So regardless of whether it comes out on Wii U or not, I will be buying this.

  • Jon Turner

At this time, no, it isn’t. Or at least according to Joystiq. Now let’s not write this off completely; MAYBE it’ll happen, maybe it won’t. But we’ll see.

  • It will never come to Wii U. Nintendo only has kiddie games

But it looks like this will not be made for Wii U, XBOX720 or PS4

    • Nathaniel Lopez

It has been confirmed that it will NOT be coming out for Wii U.

      • I hate it when people say “next gen consoles” and dont include the Wii U. It’s fucking next gen.

        • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, I know…but I understand why they don’t include it…they don’t think it’ll sell well what with all the unjust negativity the Wii U has been receiving. That’s why I don’t trust most reviewers.

          • The only way to break this unjust negativity is to start bringing some games to Wii U. Why developers don’t want to take the chance, I don’t know. We clearly have enough people for the developers to make some kind of revenue.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, from what I remember Nintendo gave out it’s dev toolkits for free, not sure if they are still doing that but there’s technically no excuse, unless agreements and stuff go sour like with EA.

          • sithWiiU

They want that revenue to be profit, not loss.

        • me

read the article, it says they only want the game to be for CURRENT gen consoles.

          • High hopes for a Saints Row 5, then.

Looks like I’ll be getting this on PC, the only other real alternative for me these days.

          • it said next before

          • The_Last_Metroid

i had better get my wii out.

        • Takarashi282

That is completely 110% true. Spec fanboys assume that a new console has to be significantly more powerful than its predecessor to be a so-called ‘Next Generation Console’. Roughly translated, ‘Next Generation’ means a new line of (such and such a thing), basically the offspring of its predecessor. Notice how there’s nothing stating: significant improvements are mandatory to be ‘Next Generation.’ These said retards are using a non-existent meaning to the term.

          • not to mention the idiots who thought there’d be a huge ps2 to ps3 graphics jump again

      • angel

this is how business works, if u tell they would not be getting it, the people or buyers wanted more. this is just a business moves to get more sales

        • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, I know. I can’t help but think of the South Park episode where Cartman owns a theme park but doesn’t let anyone in; Allowing hype and interest to build up, thus allowing more people to want admittance because of it’s exclusivity.

      • WiiUltra

Who even wants this game? Haha. I’m not interested.

  • cam

On the forums, a fan asked the moderator (Whos a volition employee), if it will be on WIiu or Ps4, and they said “We have no plans for a Wiiu or PS4 port as the current fanbase is on current gen systems”. Look on the saints forums.

    • Jon Turner

That sounds to me more like an “at this time” announcement rather than “not at all.” Still, that they consider WiiU a next gen system means something.

      • Well WiiU just IS a nextgen console and that’s no “fanboy-talk” but the truth. And I think that Most Wanted U really showed how WiiU should (and damn it, I’d say WILL) evolve over the next time 😀

        • sithWiiU

Wait until the game is actually out. Aliens looked great…then it released. NFS U will be the inferior version.

          • Luminal

Forget my question above. I can see from your comments that you are just a troll. My mistake.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

Yeah they said Xbox 360, PS3 and PC… no new Xbox, no PS4, no Wii U.

    • That’s so stupid of them. I’m on their current fan base and I’m on Wii U. What the hell, they don’t even know what they are talking about.

  • angel

do i need to play the previous games to understand this game?

    • Twotribesfox

One does not simply understand saint row.

      • angel

so its a type of game were u can just jump in and understand the plot or game

        • …plot? That doesn’t matter in this series. Just jump in and dick around.

          • angel

that sounds like fun, so kinda like a mario game but mature with dicks swinging around with a story

          • Nathaniel Lopez

It’s a sandbox game, think GTA.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Lol, I suppose that’s one way to look at it.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, unfortunately it doesn’t matter anymore, I liked the direction of where SR I was going…

        • Nathaniel Lopez

I’ve only played SR I and from what I understand SR II continues where SR I ended. How it some how got into the future and added all these over-the-top, whacky stuff is beyond me; I actually loved SR I but, when I saw what was going on with SR III, I just gave up on the series. I don’t think you need to play the older games to know what is going on in the story. It Seems like this is the kind of game that will inform you, through cut-scenes and/or dialogue, about what happened before; If it is even still relevant or important.

          • angel

            thanks for deeper explanation

          • I bought Saints Row III hoping that it would be as great as Saints Row II was, but all they did was increase the tits and naked people in the game. This is what the developers thought we wanted but it was not even close. And now these new developers look like they are following the same route. I gave up with Saints Row after Saints Row III.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

I actually thought I was in the Minority. While I’ll agree, I like to do random, reckless stuff in games such as SR and GTA but I like the story and setting in the game to be at least somewhat realistic. I’m not saying it’s a bad game because of it, just not my cup of juice.

      • Nathaniel Lopez

The first one is pretty understandable, you become involved with a gang of hoodlums and do gang-related activities, mostly partaking in riff-raffs involving your rivals.

  • Doesn’t look like it’s coming for the Wii U currently, and even it does, I personally won’t get it. Looks like SR 3.5 at the moment, and the self-parody route of SR 3 really soured the series for me. Nothing against silly, over the top games, but it was too much of a depature in SR3 after the two previous titles, which I enjoyed.

With GTA V dropping this year, and a director’s cut of Enter the Dominatrix released as DLC when SR 4 is released, I wonder if SR 4 is DOA…

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

Yeah, being a GTA fan this looks way too over the top and insane for me, although if it did come out for Wii U that would be great for third party support.

  • jsgrill

The press release says only says “current-gen consoles and PC.” There’s no mention of next-gen.

    • angel

need for speed is a port that was not downscale to the Wii U. i would not be surprise if the port of this game is from pc without downscale

      • sharlo galmo

Need for speed u is port from a high end pc, that’s why is far supirior from the other two consoles.

This is because they got the lastest devkit from the wii u, they port the game in 6 month, that is verry nice!!

        • sithWiiU

Far supirior? Wth is that? Do you mean superior? I highly doubt that.

  • Nintenjoe82

Next Gen consoles but coming out August 20th?

They should never have let Michael Pachter market this game!

    • mchelski

      Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
The only next generation out is WiiU, so, something is wrong

  • Nathaniel Lopez

I like how Saints Row started off in a modern, present day setting and somehow ended up in the future where super heroic abilities like lightning-speed and organic flight are common aspects of every day life.

  • Idiotic knock-off games never interest me. San Andreas was long ago, so Saints Row’s concept is long played out. I guess Wii U owners may want to have something, I could care less about this game. Yeah, I never played one.

    • Nathaniel Lopez

SR I was pretty good and wasn’t as over-the-top as the more recent entries in the series. I actually preferred SR I over GTA IV; I thought the latter was bland and the driving controls were frustrating for me.

      • Gamefreak361

Driving sucked bad in GTA IV. I hope V will make up for it.

    • Best Saints Row game was Saints Row II in my opinion. I think that was because it wasn’t really trying to copy GTA. The whole spirit of the game was entirely different from that of GTA. As for you bashing the game without ever playing a single one, I find that idiotic.

  • Devilus

Im tierd of hereing wanna clarefy how games are not comming to the wii u…like minecraft, why the hell not? it would be perfect. this is the reason the console is not doing well. If it will be the same confirmation with gta almost any good wiiu game will only be the hardcore nintendo titels =(

  • Not a game I’m personally interested in but I hope the Wii U finds its groove over the next few months and this decision comes back to bite them in the ass.

  • Wayne Beck

The Announcement says “Current Gen Consoles”.

  • Nintedward

Why is this news ? are we gunna have to read an article EVERY SINGLE TIME a third party game isn’t anounced for Wiiu ? WHO CARES ? just tell us when a game actually comes to Wiiu …..

How many articles are we gunna have to read this year –

Battlefield 4 not coming to wiiu , Blah blah not coming to wiiu , blah blah derp not coming to wiiu , derplefield 4 not coming to wiiu , derp didly not coming to wiiu.

Please …… just give us articles about Nintendo games and games that are actually coming to Wiiu. like Watch dogs , AC4 and more.

    • Nathaniel Lopez

Well to be fair, the original title of the article read that it MIGHT have a Wii U release. The author updated the title, which personally, I think was the right thing to do instead of leaving it misguiding and untrue.

    • WiiUltra

Well like it or not, it is news. I would rather have an article to read every day than not include articles with games not coming to Wii U. More information never hurt anybody.

    • Silver Lugia

Excuse me sir, are you 12? Use correct grammar and stop complaining. If you do not like this website, you can leave.

      • Nintedward

shut up , asshole. I will say what ever I want , and I just think it’s quite stupid that every single PS3 and 360 game that is released we get an article saying ITS NOT COMING TO WIIU.

It’s like , who cares ? who bought a wiiu to play Saints row ?

        • Zorlac79

I have to agree. All the games not coming to the Wii u so far have been games that I wouldn’t buy either way. It has a negative feeling when it’s the mention of a game and it’s not for the Wii U. Focus on the positive, since there are only 4 million of us who are!
Most people that have a Wii U have a PS3 or 360 too and we can get those games for them if we want. Just because I have a Wii U doesn’t mean I want every game that comes out to be on it.
I actually default with my 360 and maintain exclusives only on PS3 and Wii U. Seems to work well for me.

          • Nintedward

exactly. I am very interested in the GOOD ports like NFSMW U because it looks like they have put a lot of effort into it , and that’s worth being positive about. But as Nintendo fans we should no better than to expect every single multiplat to come to the Wiiu , that hasn’t been the case since the SNES.

          • Zorlac79

I agree there too. I am anxious to try the NFS, and it works since I missed it on the 360. Would have been nice to see the difference, but I’ll just have to accept it as the supreme edition! It will work up to that as it did on the Wii, and the Wii was behind the 360 and PS3 but offered a different form of playability and had a equally large install base. All in due time. It will get much bigger before it dies off!

          • sithWiiU

Read the tools’ opinion in regards to this up above. He only has a Wii U and a Mackbook.

        • Metal_Man_v2

Considering that good 3rd party support was one of the main goals for Nintendo with the Wii U, the article is both relevant and news worthy. If you don’t like the articles that mention games that aren’t coming to the Wii U, how about don’t read them, and don’t comment on them? Then everyone can get along better, and we don’t have to call people assholes. 🙂

          • Potential Rapist

Some 3rd Parties, Nintendo simply doesn’t remember about. It’s like going to the store and forgetting to buy something.

    • sithWiiU

      Lol, and more.

  • bizzy gie

Wow. With GTA V, Watch_Dogs, and SRIV there’s going to be some pretty stiff competition. Open-world games are the ultimate BEST IMO.

  • Chris Aita

    No Wii U, no interest.

    • michael546k

why? what if it’s a good game? if it’s good, i’d at least get it for pc

      • Chris Aita

One simple reason. I got a Wii U for my source of both first party games and third party games. I currently own two games developed and published by Nintendo on Wii U, everything else (which is 4 games) is third party. There is no excuse for developers not to make a version of their game on Wii U. They don’t need to use the Gamepad for anything fancy (Just Off TV Play is good enough.) and just use the Pro Controller for their games. Nintendo wants third party games on their console, I will gladly pick up Injustice on Wii U when it comes out. If Destiny doesn’t come out on Wii U, I will not buy it because I hate the communities on Xbox Live and PSN. The community on Miiverse is so much nicer and not full of eight year olds shouting profanity. I love the Wii U and I know that lack of content is a giant issue, but not making games for it is not helping and needs to stop. If developers want the Wii U to sell so bad, the answer is not to wait for it to sell units then dive into development; it’s to create content for Wii U to attract more people to the console. It can do all the things the other two last generation consoles can and then a whole lot more.

        • sithWiiU

You sound like a whiny butthurt Nintendrone. Seriously. You bought a Wii U for 1st party and 3rd party? That was a stupid purchase and your own fault. All the upvotes you have are from other Nintendo tools.

          • Luminal

I own a PS3 and a Wii U. Just like the dude you insulted above, I bought a Wii U for 1st and 3rd party titles. While yeah it sucks that more 3rd parties don’t support the Wii U and thus I can’t get SR4 for example, if I could I would rather purchase them on Wii U because I will likely get rid of my PS3 when the PS4 comes out. Are you legitimately here for a reason or just to troll Nintendo fans?

          • Chris Aita

You may be correct for present time in terms of purchasing the Wii U early. It was not the best idea for another simple reason; the competition isn’t here yet. Once the PS4 and Xbox 720 are released, the multi platform games will be on the way for Wii U, PS4, Xbox 720 and of course PC. In the case of Saints Row IV, it’s coming out on the current generation of consoles which is understandable. However, looking down the road there is Watch_Dogs coming out for PS3, 360, PS4, if 720 is out by 2013 that, Wii U and I believe PC. My point is that because of the lack of competition on the market is the reason why developers might have been so quiet about games on Wii U and the remaining of the next generation of consoles. By E3, I believe we will see a lot of multi platform games come out as usual but Wii U won’t be left out of the bunch. I personally think that the PS4 is gonna do well but only if the price is right, same goes for the Xbox 720. They can’t be as much as 500 or 599.99 anymore, they will get crushed into oblivion.

PS, don’t call someone a Nintendo Fanboy when they play all platforms equally. 😉

        • michael546k

Well, I’m pretty psyched for Destiny and I think I’d be a fool to pass this game up just for a lack of nice online communities because actions speak louder than words imo. I don’t play video games to socialize with other people; that’s what friends and the internet are for. Even w/o nice online communities, everything else about it looks great. I agree with u about companies not porting their games to wii u, and i thinks it’s the result of Nintendo’s kiddie image problem (which is only shown through ignorance obviously). I’m not saying Nintendo needs a game like Halo or Uncharted since their 1st-party games already sell systems, but if they want to solve their image problem, they’ll need an original, AAA, 1st-party hardcore title (like Bayonetta 2, except original).

      • Chris Aita

I apologize for double posting here, but to answer your PC question, all I have is a MacBook Pro for college and I think we both know the answer to that one. Not that it can’t play games as it runs World of Warcraft and League of Legends like it’s nothing, but the support for Mac OS X is low.

  • It honestly looks identical to Saints Row III. And if it’s more like III and not II then I probably won’t get it. I was dissapointed with III. It didn’t hold the same spirit that II did. All III did was increase the tits and asses and penises and naked people and then decrease everything else we liked from II.

  • dgallo911

    to the writers-editers of wii u daily…
I think u have lost your way. For every article that promotes the system u have 3 that does the exact opposite. EVERY day i log in all i see is games NOT comming to the wii u, terrible sales figures and more bundles of the damn system.
What i havnt seen is any article relating to some of the sales/specials that have been/ are available. EXAMPLE- tank tank tank might be a average game but we had a sale here where u get 4 x multiplayer modes for ONLY 3 dollars or how Chasing Aurora is on sale this week for 7 bucks instead of 15. Everyman and his dog knows the system isnt doing to well and the current crop of games is pretty crappy so how about informing owners ( and potential ones) about some of the good things ( shouldnt be to hard because there arnt many at the moment) instead of just telling the world why u shouldnt own a wii u cause believe it or not, its exactly what your doing

    • Luke Talbot

I’m afraid you’re missing the point… the sad fact is that Wii U has made little of the impact Nintendo hoped; it lacks 3rd party support and the price is about to drop, again.

It’s not that the writers have lost their way; it’s that Nintendo has.

      • Nathaniel Lopez

Actually it has a good amount of 3rd party support, there are some devs who praise the Wii U; obviously not everyone is going to make games for the Wii U just like how some won’t make games for 720/PS4, but, what the Wii U has at the moment is pretty good considering it’s still in it’s baby phase and the bad hype it’s getting. I doubt the price is going to drop anytime soon, unless retailers do so on their own accord, which they have already. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I’m not hating, but, I think you got it wrong when you said Nintendo has lost their way.

      • dgallo911

Sorry mate, but i think you are missing the point. Currently every article is about about poor sales and games that ARE NOT coming to the Wii U and i dont think it would take the writers/editors to long to make a 2 paragraph article that at least mentions a New sale on the E – Shop or some other “feel good story”. I used Tank Tank as an example as you can go buy the game for $50 or you could download the “demo” and when they had a sale here on the Kong Pack you received unlimited use of 4 x multiplayer modes for $3. Now i ask you, wouldnt you rather hear about that than Saints 4, Crysis 3, Tomb Raider (the list goes on and on and on) NOT appearing on the Wii U????

        • Luminal

It’s clear these doom articles get hits! Not just from Nintendo fans but trolls too. While I am sick of the doom articles,it works because I still have to read the bloody things.

          • dgallo911

i hear ya, im just sick of only seeing the same shit day in day out

          • Luminal

I totally agree. It’s freaking rampant..even at Nintendo sites. Like I said bad news obviously brings in hits which sucks.

        • Luke Talbot

So the fact the major cross-platform titles aren’t being ported to WiiU isn’t interesting to you? If the platform is to be successful, then it MUST have strong 3rd party support. I am not a troll, I have owned every Nintendo console since the NES, with the exception of the Virtual Boy. I am a major Nintendo fan. But what interests me right now is how Nintendo are going to save themselves from the dire situation they’ve put themselves in, yet again; NOT burying my head in the sand and thinking that Tank Tank is a success story…

          • dgallo911

All im trying to say is it wouldnt hurt to have a couple of articles that actually have something positive to say about the Wii U. Im not expecting them to replace these depressing articles, simply add a couple of positive ones when able

  • ludist210

I get why. Volition got shaken up with the whole THQ mess, and Saint’s Row 4 was originally supposed to be DLC for Saint’s Row 3. It’s unfortunate, but at least it makes sense (unlike, say, Crysis 3).

  • X3Charlie

I think Nintendo has an opportunity here. So far they seem to be lacking some premium 3rd party titles, my thinking is why get stuck on the well known mainstream titles. Nintendo should highlight indie games on its e shop, while at the same time they should attract as many small and upcoming developers as possible, they also need to watch out for clutter and shovelware.

  • Everytime we get rid of one troll, a new one pops up in their place. Seriously, they are like weeds. Donaald is gone, but now we have SithWiiU and Knowledgeiswhatsup to deal with…

    • sithWiiU

I aint no troll, just a prophet.

  • Seth S. Scott

looks very similar to 3. and although I think 3 was amazing an soo fun this game hopefully will do more then just seem like really late DLC.

  • Some dude

As much as I’m not liking how current-gen games are coming to the Wii U, there’s a good and bad side to it. Good side is that the Wii U won’t be treated like it’s a current gen console with all the current gen games/ports. Bad news is that the sales will remain to be incredible historically (According to unlimited amount of sources) poor but let’s wait until E3, okay?

I still respect Sony and Microsoft and in fact like some of their franchises. Let’s not add fire to the plastic box (Lol IGN) or console wars. Sony fans should stop being dicks. Microsoft fans should stop being boastful. According to most people, Nintendo fans tend to be two-faced (Example : Bioshock is getting to the Wii U “Big N fan : YAY!”…. 1 month later …. Bioshock is cancelled for the Wii U “Big N : Who cares. It’s just a dumb 1st person shooter”) and they claim that Nintendo is the origin of everything. For some reason, it is KINDA true. Thanks to the N64, the PS1 exists. Thanks to the NES, we’re playing games right now. Thanks to the uh…. That’s it. I don’t think we’re two-faced. Well, half of us are like that. Let’s just avoid giving ourselves a bad name like what those sony and microsoft fans are doing to themselves. Haha.

  • odare

the N T, above means NOT Teen, and i have heard that it is coming out for wii u along with all these fishy rumors that some of these other games arent either, remember what nintendo said prior to the big test of after the consoles release, its gonna be llike the NES and SNES with 3rd party support and its true

  • wober2

Does anyone think that we the wiiu consumer does the work that Nintendo of America should be doing, and getting games on our console?

  • seriously i could care less if this game comes out at all never played any of them . there are alot of games not coming out on the wiiU and there are alot of games that are coming to the wiiU i will play the games that come out its simple. if they dont come out on the WiiU then they dont get my money . sure wont lose any sleep over it

  • Johnny Star

Another down for the Wii U, they don’t have much farther down they can go! At least we have Mario, lol, I want the good games too!! Wii U’s fate is all but sealed with Microsoft and Sony getting all the big titles, and Nintendo is left with just their titles.
