Nintendo announced a new game today in their Nintendo Direct called Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball. It’s not related to any of their old IPs but it’s clear if this is the new franchise Miyamoto was talking about being in development last year. The game takes place at a sporting goods store owned by a former fictional pro baseball player Rusty Slugger. At the shop the player can purchase a variety of mini games each based on a different element of baseball. The game is supposedly being developed around the idea of “good feelings,” according to Iwata. Each mini game is supposed to evoke the good feelings of pitching, catching, hitting, etc. The real interesting thing about this game is that while you purchase the games Rusty’s store in game, and you buy them with real money, you can haggle with Rusty in game in order to have the real money price of the game lowered. They all start a $4, but apparently you can have the prices lowered “significantly.” This certainly looks to be a unique pricing model Nintendo is trying out. What do you all think of this? Does this game sound interesting to you? How about the idea of negotiating for the prices of what amounts to DLC? local_offer 3DS Nintendo nintendo direct Rusty's Real Deal Baseball trailer wii u stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas Seth S. Scott Definitely excited about this, especially the pricing model, but I dont think its the new IP Miyamoto was talking about as this has been out for some time in Japan. Arthur Jarret Miyamoto has been dropping hints about working on a new IP himself – as well as wanting to make a first person shooter. The new IP will be for Wii U – NOT 3DS: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/10/miyamoto-teases-brand-new-wii-u-franchise It won’t be the rumoured first person shooter, though – as he stated he didn’t have the time: http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/39238/miyamoto-first-person-shooter/ Maybe an E3 teaser – end-of-year reveal? steveb944 I wonder if Rusty will take a dollar… Arthur Jarret This is US only, right? I don’t think it was in the european direct (unless it was in the laggy part) – but we are getting some kind of soccer manager game instead. Edit: it’s called Nintendo Pocket Football Club Your money A game that allows you to haggle prices in real time. Considering Nintendo’s financial troubles, they will have to gamble for it. Well played Nintendo.
