With the embargo lifted on Mario Kart 8, we’ve seen new developer interviews that hint at the power behind the Wii U and what we can expect to see once Mario Kart 8 is finally available on May 30. According to the developers, this game is one of the best we’ve seen graphically in the series and that’s all thanks to the power of the Wii U. Many people have speculated that Retro Studios may have been helping out on the title, but Nintendo World Report managed to confirm with a Nintendo representative that this isn’t the case, to the best of his knowledge. The team at Retro is hard at work on another Nintendo title that hasn’t been announced yet, instead of helping the Mario Kart 8 team finish their product. Are you excited? You should be! local_offer mario kart 8 Nintendo retro studios wii u stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when J_Joestar hope we get to hear about this unannounced title soon… Squidward(Squad 3 Captain) Hopefully its a new Metroid or Star Fox games cement dorado Metroid X starfox would be cool. in all honesty i want a new starfox. That is glorious and has amazing graphics. And more landmadter stuff. Shane Michaels How about Golden Sun WIi U? Random, I know. Nintendofreak donkey kong fruit punch u.u Daniel Gonzalez Metroid: Mother Brain Freeze bakedapplepie I think Retro is definitely working on the next Metroid title. Nintenjoe82 I hope they’re working on a new Batallion Wars that uses the gamepad. Matthew Stapleton With what Platinum Games have done with Wonderful 101, I wouldn’t mind seeing them do a new Battalion Wars. They did hint at working on a new game for Nintendo. darkcreap Yep. Some speculated that it could be a Starfox game since Kamiya said that he would like to do it, but who knows… I’m sad for Platinum, because they are collaborating nicely with Nintendo. I had Wonderful 101 and, while I think that there are a lot of things to improve in it, I like that they created a new IP and tried to introduce great new game mechanics that use the gamepad. I think it could have done way better than it did if at least Nintendo had promoted it more heavily. Kamiya actually showed that concern prior to the game release. I think he had a point. I don’t think it might have been a system seller, but it could have done way better than it did. Sylux Yeah, Nintendo should have done more to promote it indeed. They failed regarding that game, and it’s a shame. Original and supposely a fun new IP which sadly dissapointed. Although I should not say this as in this case my opinion is kinda useless, I don’t have W101 and won’t be getting it either as it doesn’t appeal to me, tried it at my local gamesstore and I didn’t really liked nor enjoyed the game myself. Nintenjoe82 another dumb move was launching in the same month as Pikmin 3. They might play very differently but not to the untrained eye. Nintenjoe82 That’s would be good too. I think Nintendo could make a great rival to Battlefield Ducked That’s because they’re working on a sequel to Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. No I’m just kidding, I bet their working on the next Metroid game. Daniel Gonzalez Metroid/Tingle Crossover Ducked Mario vs Diddy Kong MerryBlind . They said they weren’t working on either. matt Mariokart 8 is officially the best looking NEXTGEN game by far in my eyes even IGN say it can compete graphically with anything on competing consoles Gameonfool I agree, looks like candy and runs at 60fps, I’m happy with the graphics on wii u enough for the xbone and ps4 to not bother me. The gap is smaller this time. I do plan on getting a ps4 too though, got xbox. matt No you don’t get my point ive owned ps4 and wiiu in general had better graphcs 2k textures on blackops2 is the superior cod on nextgen and after seing mariokart8 wow….cod ghosts had 1k textures on all 3 crap…. Gameonfool I get your point of kart being one of the best looking games to date and wii u being capable. I’m just saying that there is still a gap this generation but it is not as big. When ps4 gets pushed to the max later there will be a slight gap but does it matter. matt There is no gap except the one that Sony put in ur mind m8…..don’t understand u ive owned ps4 its nothing great and it certainly isnt above wiiu with its mobile/notebook cpu and very poor chip ram……stop repeating ur brain washed nonsense. Ben English You’re one to talk Gameonfool The wii u is a better design but it’s still less powerful overall, you sucker fool. matt In numbers maybe but we all know real power is in efficiency and performance/results,8 cores that are basically mobile cores, and powerful slow RAM ?? ok your right in mhz and ghz numbers it is more powerful that’s it,because results are what matter…… But in Bandwidth ram and chip ram and cache ect the wiiu is more powerful in numbers sorry but that is the truth and projectcars uses 1 core not 4 on wiiu…..weak cpu on wiiu i dont think so. Leo It not only competes, it surpasses the “nexgen” garbage by a mile. matt Well said its far superior to any ps4 game wow very easily. Dark-Link73 Why would Retro be involved? Do “people” think Nintendo can’t handle an HD game on their own? Brandos12 Your silly. Retro was involved with Mario Kart 7, so why not Mario Kart 8? It’s not that Nintendo can’t handle an HD game, it’s that help from Retro would help speed up development. Dark-Link73 “My silly”? Oh thanks but I can’t take it from you, let’s share it!… Oh wait, you were trying to say that “I am silly” (you’re), sorry about the confusion (lol, sorry, I’m just being a smart ass). Anyway, Nintendo brought Retro onboard, not to speed up development, but to meet the holiday deadline because Nintendo’s EAD was busy with other projects at the same time. Besides, Retro had just finished DKCR for the 3DS so I’m sure they (Nintendo) wanted to give them something to do, lol. 😉 What I do think is “silly” is that people expect the same things to happen again just because it happened before. In this case, Retro working on MK. Gentle Robot Retro did a fucking terrible job on Donkey Kong HD so I don’t know why the brand deserves the goofy reputation it gets. Dark-Link73 Ok, sorry about the double post, but I wanted to say that I saw today a comparison video, made by Eurogamer, of classic Mario Kart tracks vs. MK8 remakes and let me tell you people! The first words out of my mouth as soon as I saw Moo-Moo Meadows were: “HOLY SHIT!!!” After that I wa speechless. I can say that this was me (and many of us for that matter) and Nintendo: Thomas Vienna I know, it’s amazing how far the bump from one generation to the next is. You don’t see anything that drastic going from PS3/Xbox360 to PS4/Xbox One in my opinion. Dark-Link73 Well, realistically speaking, that’s an unfair comparison because the Wii was SD and underpowered vs. the Wii U. I think we’re going to experience the “disappointment” (although they won’t admit it) PS4/X1 fans are experiencing now, at the end of the Wii U’s life cycle and we transition to the next gen. Thomas Vienna I couldn’t expect anything better than this. I didn’t even expect this large of an improvement for Mario kart 8. Zuxs13 Assuming we still want games to look like games and not TV, we are nearing diminishing return. In 4 years from now we wont have huge advances Visually. One thing people are over looking is the game play advantages a beefy CPU/GPU can offer. We will see games on the PS4/X1 (with X1s cloud service helping) that the Wii U will not be able to do, like walking down the street in WatchDog you will see far more people on the streets on PS4 than Wii U, and be able to interact with them more. This adds to the games experience that weaker hardware wont provide and is often over looked. This will also be where games advance over the next few years. (i think) Zorpix Not to burst your bubble, but this probably could’ve gone on one of the three mario kart articles we already have up 😉 I agree though. The new track remakes are mind blowing! I love Moo Moo Meadows :3 Dark-Link73 Well, the way I saw it, my post is a Mario Kart 8 related post on a Mario Kart 8 related article. So it belongs here. 70 out 71 members agree with me, lol. 😉 Zorpix well true, I guess I was just saying it fit better on the articles that had trailers in them ;P but I’m not trying to condemn the post. I guess it mighta sounded like that. Sorry for that 😛 Dark-Link73 Don’t worry, actually I thought about posting this on a prior article, but since they’re older, I figured here would hey maximum exposure. You know what they say: Location! Location! Location! 😉 fireheartis1 Wow I have to agree with you 100%. Moo Moo meadows looks gorgeous compared to the Wii version they showed. Don’t get me wrong the Wii version looks good, but the Wii U version looks amazing!!!!!!! I may have to try and talk my wife into getting that game as soon as it comes out and not wait until our next bonus. Rinslowe Totally agree, Moo Moo meadows track for Kart 8 looks like Nintendo art style at it’s best so far. Sublime… gamesplayswill Spongebob actually says “Table for how many?” But he says it in a `fancy` style. THAT PICTURE IS WRONG GOOD SIR. Dark-Link73 First of all sire, I can’t take credit for that meme because I found it on the internet. Second of all (while pulling out a white glove and swinging it across the face), how DARE YOU doubt my Spongebob knowledge!!! If you must know! I’ve been a Spongebob connoisseur for over 10 years! I know just about every detail of every single episode before the movie! (to me, the series lost the appeal that made it amazing with the movie and any subsequent episode) Spongebob indeed says “Table for humana?” Even on the interest of being a good sport and giving you the benefit if the doubt, I checked the DVD and I, as well ad the creator of three meme, am correct! Unfortunately the DVD doesn’t have captions do I couldn’t take a photograph to show you as proof! However, if are you indeed a true gentleman as you seem to be by the way you handle yourself, photographic proof shan’t be required for you honor my word by accepting it as is. GOOD DAY TO YOU SIRE! gamesplayswill I took that like a man. XD I’m sorry. Ben English Metroid Prime 4…. please God, let it be. DK_Hadouken When they make a new Metroid game, it won’t be in the Prime series. Retro stated that “Corruption” was the last game in the Prime series. Ben English Whatever, as long as it’s good they could call it Metroid: Pretty in Pink. fireheartis1 Haha I would play that game. MujuraNoKamen The trilogy is over but they could/should do a prime-style 1st person shooter. can’t wait 🙂 readypembroke or even a Trilogy HD Ben English Eh, even prettied up there’s no way of getting around the fact that old games are old games. The Wii U needs new stuff, not just HD remasters. matt You chat shit ps4 has remasters all over the place try poor numbered sequels with no thought or skill. Ben English Uh… what? Please use punctuation, I have no idea what you’re trying to communicate. matt PS4 is crap. readypembroke Hey, it could be the Wii U’s golden ticket! Aaron K Stone If people payed attention they’d realise they have a new open world RPG in the works. Ben English They do? That sounds interesting if true, though I can’t find anything on the topic besides rumor and speculation. Regardless I’m eager to see what they ARE working on, even if it isn’t Metroid. Aaron K Stone It seems be a spiritual successor to Xenoblade. At least that’s what the general opinion is. Ben English Uhh… you mean X? That’s not being developed by Retro, that’s Monolith Soft. Aaron K Stone Whoops My bad. It looks like I replied to the wrong post. Josie the Sketcher Since Retro studios has ex-Rare members, hopefully a Killer Instinct clone but even better. Maybe a Primal Rage reboot? Ben English Nintendo and Retro don’t own anything related to the Primal Rage IP. As best as I can tell it’s still with Atari. nin-10-doughfan metroid prime graphics on the gamecube is amazing which is developed by retro studios and now a new game for the wii u? can’t wait! ( so excited! ). companyoflosers see if the wii u was so under powered, why are we seeing games at 1080p 60fps no problem when its such a big deal for the other two competitors so much that its a selling point? now im not claiming wii u is superior to both but isnt it time we stopped with the pixel counting and just enjoyed what we were playing. nintendo knows how to do that and is the only one of the big three who has been doing things that way since the beginning. granted nintendo could do with a change in upper management across the board thanks to the horrible marketing that has plagued the wii u since its inception, but i still think they have handled games and hardware better than anybody else has right now. jrob23 the trolls will argue that it’s easier hitting these benchmarks due to the cartoony graphics Nintendo uses. As powerful and ‘realistic’ as these games appear to be i.e. Killzone, COD, BF, Witcher, etc…to me, it looks like devs are adding elements (like sunlight bursting off water, shadows within shadows, etc) which takes away from the realism. Like they want so bad to experiment with these new powers that they overdo it. But I agree, once Nintendo comes out with something that also has ‘realism’ whether that be Metroid, Zelda, or some other IP…that will be the proof that these 3rd party devs have been full of shit and just should have been honest. That it’s all about money not the hardware limitations. I also think Nintendo gets a kick out of this. Like it’s a bragging rights thing. Hey look at us making these beautiful gorgeous games with the ‘underpowered’ console. We are undeniably the best developers in the world. I am almost positive that plays a role Gentle Robot I don’t know why anyone cares about realism when the worlds they build look like a post-apocalyptic warzone. They’re analyzing pixels and saying the rubble in this game is WAY better than the other game’s rubble like anyone wants to visit a world where things are more fucked up than this one. jrob23 I’m not so sure about Zelda and Metroid. Especially Metroid. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did make a ultra ‘realistic’ Metroid game. Zelda…well that is fantasy and it’s not needed. They are most likely not going the Skyrim route. But Metroid could easily do a Halo esqu type graphical game no problem. Can’t wait to find out! Zuxs13 Funny thing about Halo esque graphics and art style is the lead art director at 383 studios was the art director for Metroid Prime. readypembroke It’s 343 Industries actually. Zuxs13 I know kentray1985 I just knew it be a ton of kids on here posting lol Gentle Robot buncha words on together like talking not Aaron K Stone Well X is going for a realistically look. jrob23 I am not one of the people that is overly impressed with X. To me, it just seems like the normal jump from XC on the wii to the Wii U. Pretty for sure but not nearly on the same scale as the more graphically intensive stuff this gen will bring. I’m not complaining but it seems about on par with Halo 4 or Uncharted 3..not next gen. Of course we haven’t really seen much so who knows how good it will look when it releases. Ben English Well other than a few… ahem, eccentric… posters around here, I don’t think anyone is expecting X to look like a PS4 game, but the scale is already impressive, especially with the ability to get into giant mechs and traverse the world quickly. matt Like a ps4 game whats that exactly you fanboy Ive owned one the graphics are utter shite on most games….. Ben English Please tell me more. matt I played madden and a few other games and was more impressed with WiiU,and going off the Amazon customer reviews WiiU is well in front so when people actually try it they love it. Aaron K Stone I was just making the point that Nintendo doesn’t deal exclusively with cartoony looking games and X should give us a benchmark for how good a realistic first party game on Wii U could look. Ben English X still doesn’t look all that realistic. The texture and lighting show a lot of detail, true, but the characters still have a very anime-esque aesthetic with smoother skin and sharp, simple facial features. There’s nothing wrong with that though. Honestly super realistic graphics can backfire. I mean, look at PS4’s graphical showcase, KillZone Shadowfall: It’s a really impressive looking game… until you get up close with a human face and think “Oh god I’m in the uncanny valley so deep!” Aaron K Stone True, though whether It leans towards cartoony or realistic I would say realistic. Similar to Bioshock. Zuxs13 X would be in the same category a Skirim, which was at the time considered a graphic marvel. X looks better than Skirim so there will be plenty of people that will be impressed by that, but most will ignore it because it says Nintendo on it. Want a game with realistic graphics on the Wii U with out Nintendo on the label, See Project Cars. greengecko007 Anyone praising Skyrim’s graphics doesn’t play many games. It looks great on PC, but on consoles the graphics were just average even when the game came out. Bethesda games are not known for their advanced visual appeal. Just look at Oblivion on the PS3. It looks like a gamecube game. Zuxs13 Thanks for a completely pointless comment Zuxs13 http://i.imgur.com/nN6pgnK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yd0U5BB.jpg id say there is more detail in X and we have no idea how far along it is. jrob23 see I disagree. Considering how much more is going on in the X screenshot it might not be the best comparison. X seems on par with the best of last gen. While that might be good for Nintendo, it is not comparable to PS4 efforts and fanboys need to stop throwing this game out there as an example of something that does, because it doesn’t. Smash and Kart are better than this. Caveat being, as we agree, this is very early footage and there is still so much room for growth especially if this doesn’t drop until Xmas or 2015 matt Your drunk….. Zuxs13 That’s the point of the comparison, you specifically stated Uncharted 3, so i compared the two, First uncharted has much less detail and muddier colors and there’s far less going on, which shows that X is more capable. Second Uncharted is a liner 6 hour game so its easy to push graphics in a game like that, but X is a more “open world” far longer game, often they do not push graphics as well as those short liner games and yet even in this busy screen shot its surpassing Uncharted easily. matt http://playeressence.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/monolith-soft-x-wii-u_15.jpg yeah can’t wait…. Zuxs13 that is an awesome shot of the game but i think its probably a cut scene. But i hope we get to see that “hanger” while playing the game. matt This is not a playable cut scene mate just saying…..go play some xbox have u not seen the gameplay of this game if you have then you should know that’s in game graphics wether its gameplay or not the graphics in the game match that easy if not better as this screen shot is old…… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwzl0SxBhSA Zuxs13 Wow way to be an ass. What does the video you just sent have to do with the image you posted earlier. That image is from a cut scene. matt Cut scene blah blah who cares it’s from the game and the graphics are better then that so called cut scene in these in game screens…… http://www.wiiz.fr/medias/soft/21/6831/10.jpg http://www.wiiz.fr/medias/soft/21/6831/5.jpg Tim Hart http://www.downloadmoreram.com/ take advantage of free ram downloads ! Tim Hart btw how do you get memes into your comments ? readypembroke Copy and paste a image’s link into the comments box. Tim Hart thanks 🙂 DragonSilths No duh Retro had nothing to do with MK8… ETeach I never thought they did. Did anybody? gamerinexile One of the best in the series? It’s the first hd entry, and it’s on the most powerful system a Mario Kart game has ever appeared on. If it’s not THE best looking game in the series, they’re doing something wrong. cool1706 So excited!!! I got a preorder and I can’t wait!!!! Moreck I’m glad that Retro isn’t involved, bc DKC:TF was something of a letdown. In terms of gameplay, visuals, and level design, I walked away unimpressed. Zuxs13 visuals really? are you comparing it to Avatar? JeanPaul Did we have any reason to believe they were?? jrob23 they worked on 7 Steve6cupcakes They help’d with MK7 thats why some were thinking that. steveb944 OMG OMG OMFG! So EXCITING! Sorry my fanboyism came out a little TheSneakyLizard I hope for a new Metroid game. Logan Wayman Uhhh, WHAT?! This was done by Nintendo only?! That’s NUTS, man! Freakin’ nuts!! Rinslowe I thought it was clear which team was working on MK8…. EAD 1… Seeing as though nothing has was ever mentioned about Retro (unlike 7) I wouldn’t have even speculated it… jjbredesen Everyone knows Retro is working on HL3 😛 brian “According to the developers, this game is one of the best we’ve seen graphically in the series and that’s all thanks to the power of the Wii U” Well duh. Josh_gold Played a demo at comic con and it was the highlight of the whole expo! Absolutely worth buying! kentray1985 Please let it be a metroid or star fox game. Nintendo save me lol kentray1985 Metroid forever Dark Lord Sauron retro must be working on metroid prime 4 crossing fingers jjbredesen Half life 3 confirmed! ZeldaFan83 The amount of detail is quite amazing in this game and I haven’t even seen the final version of the game. The most recent videos are from a demo version or beta that isn’t final. William Cole I’m glad. They had no business in Mario Kart anyways. Golden Gamer Off topic, but does anyone know how to unban a Wii U Console? I recently bought a preowned one from Gamestop, and to find out, it’s console banned! Someone please help!! Suraj Alexander nintendo support? iamserious “According to the developers, this game is one of the best we’ve seen graphically in the series and that’s all thanks to the power of the Wii U” It damn well better be THE best looking game of all the Smash Bros games!!! Brandon good riddance! you are sooo not better than the mid 90’s rare!
