Jan 28th, 2013

As many of you already know, Nintendo is celebrating the 30th year anniversary of the Family Computer or FamiCom by releasing a mix of NES and SNES games on the Wii U Virtual console for a price of 30 cents between now and August. With each new month, there will be a new classic title available for download for a period of 30 days. Here is the release schedule:

From Wed, 1/23 to Thu, 2/21 : Balloon Fight (NES)
From Wed, 2/20 to Thu, 3/21: F Zero (SNES)
From Wed, 3/20 to Thu, 4/18: Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (NES)
From Wed, 4/17 to Thu, 5/16: Kirby’s Adventure (NES)
From Wed, 5/15 to Thu, 6/13: Super Metroid (SNES)
From Wed, 6/12 to Thu, 7/11: Yoshi (NES)
From Mon, 7/15 to Tue, 8/13: Donkey Kong (NES)

Will you be downloading any of these classic titles? Personally, I’ll be getting Kirby and Donkey Kong for sure. Can’t beat the price.

Can’t wait for those FIRSTy games!

  • [000]

I am buying all of these. Can someone total those prices?

    • Brian McGuinness

      $2.10. Are you serious?

      • [000]

        I was lazy.

        • Adam

3 times 7 is 21, not that hard.

          • [000]

And x=10 if 2x+3x+50= 100, not that hard. But then, there was laziness.

  • AAAkabob

$2.10 in the US plus tax so between $2.20 and $2.31 with tax. For 7 games that will otherwise be $4.99 ea or more before tax, there’s no reason to not buy them all lol. I know theres those humble indie bundles and all that, but I’d rather play on my controller w/ no hassle as opposed to on my laptop.

    • Well, these titles are established Nintendo IPs. With the exception of the Humble THQ Bundle, the indie bundles are indie-developed games that are typically exclusive to PC.

      • AAAkabob

Heh I figured that would get a response out of you, looked into 2 girls 1 game podcast…it’s long dead now?  Anyways, I was attempting to reply to [000], but failed some how.  What exactly are you trying to say with your post?  I was trying to communicate that this is the best possible way to spend 30 cents.

    • Mason742

      no tax on digital titles…

      • Donald Estep

yes, there are! Wii U and 3DS Eshop DOES have tax unfortunately.

        • The only thing is that for these games is that $0.30, there IS no tax. I remember it was exactly 30 cents! But yes you are right, for all titles that are about a dollar or more, the tax I THINK is about 1%.

          • Ryan Dugger

It was $0.33, I just got Balloon Fight.

          • CTRAINGAMER

HA! Mine was only $0.32! SUCK IT!….I’m sorry…

There is tax. I bought Darksiders 2, Trine 2 and Balloon Fight digitally. Balloon Fight was 32 cents with tax. :p

I really hope the Donkey Kong version is the 25th Anniversary European version that was released with the Pie Factory level.  I already have the other but would still pay .30 to get gamepad only.   But I’ll be in heaven if I can finally play Pie Factory

  • Laud

What da heyl meng, I wanted f-zero on the 1st. ):

  • Scott Duperree

I’ll be getting all of them, though I am skeptical of Yoshi.  Punch Out is one of my favorite games of all time, and I am excited to play it again.  Maybe I’ll beat it this time.  When I was a kid I couldn’t beat it even with Game Genie cheats on.

    • AAAkabob

Yoshi is most likely the only game I won’t buy.

  • Matt Lambourne

I’ll get all of them, but I have to be honest I dind’t realise Yoshi was a NES title.  I thought he was invented for SMW.

    • He was. Yoshi was released on NES after the SNES and SMW came out.

  • Henry Hotspur

With the exception of Yoshi, getting all of these. Seriously, 30 cents each?! Hell yeah.

  • I guess I’ll be getting all of them, but I’m especially excited about F-Zero, Super Metroid, and Donkey Kong!

  • Jeffrey Debris

Going to get all of them. Can’t really say no to a 30 cent deal 😛

    • RetroSquid

  • Marcell Wade

I have decided to buy the rest of them, a $1.98 for 6 Nintendo classics, it’s criminal, lol.

  • Yngve Elstad

I bought the first one, and quickly realized I was getting the shitty 50hz version again, so I won’t be buying any of the others unless nintendo decides to give us europeans the propper versions of the game.

  • ludist210

I’ll likely get them all, but I’m on the fence about Yoshi…crummy puzzle game, even at that price.  Wario’s Woods in that spot would have been excellent.

  • Ryan House

I didn’t know there was a Yoshi game made for the NES I thought the first time Yoshi appeared was in Super Mario World for SNES

    • PacoJerte

That is true but that was in 1990 and the game Yoshi was released in 1991 for the NES i know its pretty weird but thats what happened

  • JJ JJ

    Where’s my Earthbound nintendo!?

  • I’ll probably just get F-Zero….may get Super Metroid too…but really want F-Zero

  • what’s the point in paying money for the same games over and over again with every new console (for the last 30 years)? i don’t get it. unless, people succumb to their nostalgia. which makes nintendo effortless very happy. i wish i was a company with some nostalgic brands = a moneyprinting perpetuum mobile that would be.

  • Seth S. Scott

Ill be getting them all. Even though I own alot of them already, BUT SUPER METROID! Hell Yes! Cant wait till Earthbound is released for Wii U VC!! 🙂

  • Einar

Kirby, Donkey Kong and Yoshi 🙂

  • Elem187

I have played them all except Yoshi, Kirby and Super Metroid (I think I moved on to PC gaming when these titles came out)

I will get all of them. 30 cents for anything Nintendo makes is an absolute steal.
