Rayman LegendsWhen Nintendo revealed the official list of 23 Wii U launch games which will be available on day one, Ubisoft’s gorgeous platformer Rayman Legends wasn’t on that list. But over the past week, there have been some rumors that Rayman Legends would see a November release, or at least very close to launch. But those rumors have now turned out to be false.

Ubisoft confirmed via a press release that Rayman Legends will be released in the first quarter of 2013. Many wrongly believed that the game was a Wii U launch title, but it was always listed as a “launch window title”, with a 2013 date. Ubisoft also released a short statement saying “we are taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations”.

Rayman Legends was one of the very first Wii U games to be revealed, and will be released exclusively on the Wii U console. The game will support full 1080p resolution, and feature co-op and multiplayer — for more, check out some screenshots of the game and a slick gameplay trailer.

I don’t mind the game being delayed as long as when it does get released it’s as good as it can be.

    • Mac

well its not necessarily delayed if it wasn’t meant for it to be a launch title anyway but i am somewhat disappointed that it isnt a launch title but hey oh well

    • Asiancake

      It a pretty good game

    • combo

This shouldn’t be read into at all. Ubi is just making smart business decisions. They already have Zombiu and AC3 releasing before christmas and they know Rayman is another killer game for them. There is no need to release it before the first of the year when they are just going to be competing with themselves.

  • The incredible sandwich

you cant see me but i am crying my eyes out

    • Nintedward

I went a bit red in the face :/ . This was my most anticipated wiiu launch game , forget zomiu and AC3 and Nintendo land etc . Rayman Legends the spiritual sequel to the masterpiece which was origins was where it was at.

I guess I will now be buying NSMBU on launch day instead 🙂 . They’re probably , A = avoiding a sales ckash with NSBMU , B = polishing the gameplay and graphics ! . Win and a loss :S

      • DURPAdurpa

        True dat

  • SortableShelf19

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! *Sigh* I guess I’ll be getting New Super Mario Bros. U instead…

  • James

It’s common sense people, Nintendo doesn’t want to threaten the sales of Rayman Legends with NSMBU being a launch title as well..

  • RoboticLink

Oh well, don’t have much money to spend on games, so I have to limit myself. In other words, I will only get one 2D game so I can only get New super mario bros. U

  • Yamiryuu Zero

Maybe they’ll put the NFC to work this time! They’re doing it so this game can be awesome in every sense, let’s be a little more patient! Specially because it doesn’t matter to me, anyway, I don’t have money for a Wii U now T^T

  • Nintenlord

This is not the bad news has every 1 else is making it

  • Cugno the Swiss

We really need an article that says that the Wii U can be connected to the TV.

    • 007 1/2

    • Cugno the Swiss

I correct, this news wasn’t a “no sht sherlock” one… I thought it was another article such as “the console is strong” or “there are black ones too”.

  • maxlazy10

Well as long as it is as good as it can be, there’s no problem. Tough luck to the people who preordered it at Gamestop expecting it Day 1.

  • Gamechemist8

This game looks gorgeous, just too bad it’s coming out later:(
In the meantime, I’ll be playing NSMBU and Paper Mario Sticker Star!

    • JumpMan

i really hope they make a Paper Mario for Wii U… Super Paper Mario was my favorite, and first, Wii game!

  • Johny

way to go =) better to release the game as its supposed to be, than to rush it

  • NinjaMonkeyLuchadore

Dissapointing since this had been confirmed as a launch title here in Europe.

Oh well it’s not too long to wait, and there’ll be plenty of other games to play.

  • Kaasor

Well, if we can play at least demo of Rayman Legends on Wii U, I will gladly wait 🙂 No need to overreact about it:)

  • Michael

This makes me incredibly sad, looks like I’m getting nsmb instead

  • My Personal Thought (DO NOT MIND, LISTEN )

Yeah well Wii U is good for this year and next year, but wait till Sony bring out that Ps4 and when Microsoft bring out that Xbox 720. All the wii u’s “show” will go away. Look at this example. “Hey Bill I got a deluxe Wii U” Bill: Awesome, can I come to your house to check it out? Conversation starter: Yeah ofcourse! I’d love that!!!
As you can see right now in the story that Wii U i considered “very cool” and “nice” but after 2 years when ps4 comes out everyone will go to buy a ps4 here is another example but this time the ps4 has came out.
“Tommy I’ve got a Wii U”! Tommy: Eh, who cares the ps4 is what we all want now!
Did you guys see the difference? If you are under 13 here is some advise Buying game consoles will disrupt your learning. 1more advise don’t buy it but if you still want to you can its your life. Just don’t #pissmeoff

    • Kevin White

The Oculus Rift Kickstarter is more likely what people will be wanting.

    • Nintendo Power (Star Mission)

Too bad, PS4 and Xbox 720 won’t get that much goodness. You can go buy a PS4 and Xbox 720 but all game consoles are the same, just different companys that makes em. (Nintendo makes it better though)

    • JumpMan

does that count for me since i’m 13? (sarcasm)

    • MinowaEli

Jesus, it’s as if a 10 year old wrote that comment…

    • Collected

Your idea of relevance in the market is a tad off both the PS2 and Xbox 360 were out a year before other competition and lead their respective console generation in terms of sales. Both times they also become the first platform for most games to be developed for with ports being developed for the other two later.

      • Death

Actually, in terms of sales, the Wii lead this generation, not the Xbox 360. You are right, however, in saying that the PS2 lead its generation (which it did by miles).

Fun fact: Winners of each console generation by worldwide sales:

1st Gen: Nintendo’s Color TV Game
        2nd Gen: Atari 2600
        3rd Gen: NES
        4th Gen: SNES
        5th Gen: PS1
        6th Gen: PS2
        7th Gen: Wii

    • tronic307

By your reasoning, the Vita should have trumped the 3DS in sales. We all know how that turned out.

    • brwnfinger

  • Deadmansam

New super mario bros u on launch for me oh well I played it on the show floor and it looks pretty good to play.

  • Deadmansam

But I guess they should leave it till next year because the demo was buggy.

  • kingtendo

this is a real let down for me,this was the game i wanted to get on launch day.

now i guess i will be getting mario and zombie u.

i already pre-orderd rayman. so at least i will get it when it drop’s.

    nintendo fearless is number 1

  • kingtendo

and also i think somone will hack the fearless and make it read gamecube game’s.

i hope so because i love playing madden 06 for gc.

  • Tubba Blubba

I’m a bit disappointed as I was looking forward to this, but I feel good knowing the game is being polished even further

i am sad and happy about this, sad because i could not wait for this and happy because it will be better.

      duicate comment

  • Joesatmoes

This doesn’t bother me much.. I know, everyone has high hopes for it, and it looks great, and it is super fucking fun, but I was gonna get only 1 or 2 sidescrollers on the wii u, and NSMBU was a given. I might get Trine 2 instead, but niether at the beginning.

    • NSMBU uses the same sprites, same music, sound effects as the original NSMB game. The series is stagnating and you think it’s a given. It’s almost as bad as buying CoD.

  • The_Beeshnu

Hey i am happy for Ubisoft to delay their games for few years
No matter when they release it… it’s good!
    Because they deliver

    • What?

Ubisoft never delivers… They ruined the Assassin’s Creed series and the Splinter Cell series, Ghost Recon FS was garbage, and Far Cry 3 looks like garbage as well.

Ubisoft is a terrible company who would milk their biggest franchise instead of letting the creator of the series work on the sequel to the series he…. CREATED.

Ubisoft Montpellier is the only studio of theirs that has any credibility left.

  • TheUNation

As long as Ubisoft continues to bring the quality satisfaction in Rayman Legends when it’s launchched next year, I would be more than grateful to purchase it.

  • wiiugamer

wasn’t this bunbled at walmart with wii u pre-order? What happens now?

  • SteampunkJedi

That’s too bad. But the game will be better with this developing time, and there are plenty of other good games to get near launch.

  • Disciplelicious

We all should have known it wasn’t a launch title.

This article says that no Wii U launch titles will support NFC right away, and that one is the most obvious use of NFC.
Oh, well, we’ll just have to pick it up some other time.

  • crocodileman94

Oh, well, NSMBU, Nintendo Land, and Sonic All-Star Transformed will probably keep me busy while waiting for this game.

  • nintendoododo

Well this doesn’t bother me. Rayman sucks!

    • KENNY

      you’r fuckin stupid

    • NightºƒCore

Go burn *insert bitch please meme here*

  • NightºƒCore

    *face desk*

  • .

This isn’t bad news to me, I already have three games I picked out when I get the Wii U; this game just missed the cut.

Let’s just hope The Wonderful 101 gets released this year.

  • rjm420247

    Can’t Wait!

  • SleepingSheperd

    Woo hoo!!

  • jacobbaba

heres my opinion on rayman legends i think it will be a above average game
but as if right now i dont think it is worth 60 bucks plus there are better exclusives for the wii u
