Ubisoft has done in Japan what they wouldn’t do for the rest of the world, in that Rayman Legends will be an exclusive title to the Wii U there. You’ll see the absolutely gorgeous box art for the Japanese release above, which is much better than the box art that North America is getting, in my opinion. The reason for exclusivity in Japan is that Nintendo is publishing the title in that region. While the game is already out in Europe and North American gamers will be able to get their hands on it September 3rd, Japan has to wait until October 17th for the title. Which box art do you prefer? The American box art is included below for comparison. local_offer japanese box art Nintendo Rayman Legends wii u stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas Nicolas Dorion the north american one is clearly more violent, heck you cant really see the axe in the japanese version. Kinda like the japanese happy kirby and american angry kirby. Madmagican You took the words right out of my mouth Daniel Gonzalez Which I find funny. Stoenk I don’t even get why different regions get different box arts. It’s the same with wind waker Marcus Navarro Different things are tolerated in different regions, I guess. Notice how much less violent the Japanese box art is than the American one. Even Fallout 2 was censored in Japan because they felt it would’ve been very offensive. Stoenk yeah but what about the american wind waker box art being the same as the european and japanese just in gold? Kevin Sepulveda Americans in general like more mature looking. So all the color may have been too childish looking for adult gamers. I dont know but maybe. Daniel Gonzalez I could care less about boxart. I just wanna play the game, which is the point of gaming to begin with. It’s still an interesting discussion nonetheless. Kevin Sepulveda I agree with you 100% I only buy digital games so I never even get to see the box art lol. But for some the Box art may be what catches their attention. If it was up to me and you we would cut the price by removing box art all together lol. Daniel Gonzalez Yet, they have Japanese variety shows that show sexual acts such as bj’s and handjobs, which are censored. Yet, a game is censored for being violent? Japanese laws make so much sense don’t they? Bone In reality it’s not about censoring, it’s just about mentality. America and Europe love more “mature” covers, japan don’t need this bullshit. Look at this example if you will. Bob Wilkerson This is thanks to the dudebro gamers that call Nintendo kiddie games and if it is not rated M and have realistic graphics the game is for babies Daniel Gonzalez I find that funny. They’re both the same with just a difference in expression on Kirby’s face. What’s the big deal if Kirby has an angry look on his face on the japanese boxart? It’s silly. Jonathan P Mugridge It speaks directly to the aggression factor for that region. It’s not silly. It’s pure business. Daniel Gonzalez It’s still silly. Lol. He’s barely that angry, especially since he’s cartoonish. Business or not, it’s quite hilarious that they’re that picky over an angry looking character. Bone It’s silly but yes it’s business. For more fun check other kirby games they all have “angry” face 😉 ezquimacore Japan prefer sexual content than violence, America prefer violence than sexual content. both part of the human nature. Daniel Gonzalez Oh I know. Human nature makes less sense than anything on earth. Marcus Navarro And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of shit that reinforces the “America is Violent” stereotypes. Why do the Japanese always get the nice, calm covers? With that being said, the Japanese box art looks wonderful! If you live in Japan, COP DAT SHIT!!! Merrfn I personally would trade the American box art for the Japanese any day. Hopefully the game will sell well in Japan. Marcus Navarro In that endeavor, you are not alone. Petri How about this steel book box art? Though I still have mixed feelings whether I want to swap the original since it doesnt have any platform distinctions but it is same size as original case. http://imageshack.us/a/img96/111/simusteelbookrl.jpg Merrfn Looks better than the american box art, but worse than than Japanese in my opinion. MuffinDerp I guess you could say it’s a “metal” box art. i’ll leave now…. Petri http://steelbook.com/ Trademark I guess. Διονύς84 It totally looks “Marioish” doesn’t it tho? kevin nun—- lol Madmagican Wait, I the reason that Rayman Legends is still a Wii U exclusive in Japan is that Nintendo’s publishing it there… Why didn’t Nintendo publish the game in every region? The game could’ve been out like three months ago Daniel Gonzalez Because that’s up to Ubisoft. Plus, why would Ubisoft agree to that? Just so that the game will be exclusive to Wii U and it would sell less due to the small install base that the Wii U has? Yeah, they were smart to make it multi-platform. It sucks to lose out on an exclusive, but that’s business. Madmagican Yeah, I guess that’s the reasoning behind it Clel It’s just that Ubisoft didn’t bother publishing it on all the platforms in Japan. It has nothing to do with Nintendo. A_7 hmmm i dnt knw … there’s something exciting about the american box art! Petri Torture? A_7 Nope simply because it represents the actual gameplay better. Fact is Ur gonna beat the hell out of those bosses and hit ppl with an axe! Merrfn I know what you mean, but I still prefer the Japanese box art. Maybe it is just the lack vibrant colours, that are ever so present in the Japanese box art. But I will agree with your point that the American box art does represent the gameplay a lot better. HotInEER The Japanese cover art looks much better, or at the very least, brighter and more vivid. I think I prefer that coverart to the US one. Josiah Parsons Agreed, except the title is in Japanese. vamos_cactuar The Japanese box art puts ours to shame. So much brighter and happier, I love it! Michael DeVore The series has never sold well in Japan. May they have better luck then Ubisoft has in the past, but I’m not going to get my hopes up for better sales when the franchise as a whole has sold less than 1% of its total games there. Arthur Jarret I wonder how popular rayman is in Japan… I hope it’ll sell some wii u systems so more people will pick up the wonderful 101 too! That game is great! Draw controls and easy mode for noobs – normal, hard and right stick controls that are even more responsive than mortal kombat for beat ‘m up veterans. I really can’t understand the lower scores than rayman – although I do understand why rayman is getting high scores. I love how I’m able to afford all these new releases… zelda & gta V in a few weeks! Fred Box art doesn’t make a difference to me because I’m downloading this game. I plan to hit download before I go to bed Monday (I usually go to bed after midnight) and I’ll turn it on and play a little with my kids before I go to work Tuesday morning before Best Buy is even open. Josiah Parsons So? andrewjcole The boxart for JP is gorgeous! Ours, on the other hand… Merrfn I hear you brother… lonewolf88 thats because the quote “mature fanboys” would find the bowart kiddy and won’t buy the game because of it :S andrewjcole Sounds believable. Mario Well that’s just dumb. Personally, the boxart can never change my opinion. I’m the kind of guy who can see through boxes and see the real thing. The games. lonewolf88 well “mature gamers” only care about the rating M on the case and the rating with the listings of violence, blood, gore, language ect. and i think we all know who those people are. Mario People who just like games with blood and violence? lonewolf88 no the people i was talking about are the people who say stuff like. pikmin 3 is for kids! real gamers play Assassins creed or cod are the most used. Inviable I like Assassins creed but would rather play pikmin. Mario Ohh… Those people. Yeah, I agree with that. InterTreble “Rayman is not a Wii U exclusive any more” = 1 billion comments. “Ops sorry, is not an exclusive any more ONLY outside JAP, where it would have sold the 10% on Wii U” = no comments. And no comment. Merrfn Funny that. Negative news sparks debates and and anger. Daniel Gonzalez Always does, only some people take it a step too far. Happens on all sites. Ducked Japanese box art looks so much better Daniel Gonzalez They’re both good, other than the Japanese version having more vivid colors. Ducked The Japanese version looks like it fits the Wii U box art Daniel Gonzalez It doesn’t fit the gameplay of the game, however. The NA version shows exactly that. While the vivid colors are nice on the Japanese version, I prefer the box art that best expresses the gameplay. To each their own. bakedapplepie The Wii U in the US should get the JP box art while all other versions should have the other box art since its no longer a Nintendo exclusive. Mochlum Japan gets the best boxarts IMO. I was very mad when they showed the NA WWHD boxart being piss-colored again instead of the colorful JA/EU ones. The Japanese Rayman one is great. Zorpix It’s not American till it has someone ripping something’s tongue out about to punch it in the face. ‘MURICA Daniel Gonzalez *rips your tongue clean out of your mouth* Sorry, was being my American self. My apologies. Zorpix I’m American too 😀 but now I’m an american without a tongue 🙁 greengecko007 I guess I’m the minority voice again, not that that’s anything new. I actually like the NA box art A LOT better than the Japanese art. From an artistic point of view, the composition of the NA box art is better. The placement of the characters, the interesting pose, and having the title right under the Wii U logo works better. I don’t like how Rayman is right in the middle of the cover on the Japanese box art, I don’t like how all the other characters just look pasted in the background, and I don’t like having the game title so far away from the Wii U logo. But that’s just me. andré i think rayman origins is so much better game than legends. and murphy, i cant stand him, and the stages with him i hate. i dont care to play as murphy, and the stages is to rushed. no no , rayman origins nailed it, the best platform game of all time. and funniest.. Johan Larsson This games is soo fun! Christopher Acuna Just sayin…the American Box art is a hell of a lot more violent then the japanese box art. The Japanese box art just looks like all the characters are having a good time while the west is there ripping out punching, impaling, and ripping out tounges….just sayin lol Nintendo4life I wanted this game so bad…Back in feb but due to they holding it off too long Im now giving my money to something else..Sorry Ubi but you had your chance …Maybee in a few years when it’s dirt cheap i might buy it but with Zelda and GTA and other games i have to pass on the game that should have come out when you said it would..Ubi your loss 00EpicGamer00 In speaking of box arts, here’s the official box art for Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (found on Gamefly): http://cms.gameflycdn.com/proxy/gf/boxart/190w/5006185.jpg Daniel Gonzalez For a second there, I thought it was the Japanese version. Seeing as how happy they all look. 00EpicGamer00 I know xD But I think Nintendo keeps the box arts the same with Donkey Kong games, for some reason. There’s only a select few of Nintendo games where Nintendo changes the box art to be more…”aggressive” looking. One of the more noticeable ones, Kirby. You know, why is it that Nintendo is the complete opposite with their box arts? Like with Kirby, he’s always happy in his games, but on the box art, they make him mad. For Donkey Kong, he’s usually mad in his games, but on the box art, they make him happy…..what now? (Seriously, if someone were to just lightly touch ONE of his banannas, Donkey Kong would flip a table over it.) Guest Has NN sign on it 00EpicGamer00 And? It’s suppose to have that… Guest Could feature online play. MysticDude97 Seems legit. Guest Notice how the Japanese one has a Nintendo Network sign and ours dont. 00EpicGamer00 Actually, ours DOES have a Nintendo Network sign. She must of just used an older picture (since the rating is “RP”.) Here’s a more recent picture: http://cms.gameflycdn.com/proxy/gf/boxart/190w/5004716.jpg For some reason, the color is better too. Guest Yeah must be the prob. 00EpicGamer00 ….What? MysticDude97 Villager demands that you play Rayman Legends only on Wii U.
