A new preview from YouTube account GameXplain has several new juicy details about the upcoming Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, including the fact that Rambi the Rhino is making a reappearance in the newest title. You can check out some of the footage from the YouTuber’s four hour play session, in which he says he was able to complete content from most of the first four worlds of the game.

Are you excited for this release? The title will be hitting store shelves and the Nintendo eShop on February 21st in both North America and Europe.

Good ol’ GameXplain of course he would be the one to look to.

    • The Clockwork Being

Well he will have a lot of work soon if there is a January Direct coming up. Last January Direct had lots of content and if there is one this month it only means more analysis!

I can’t wait for this game. It’s a shame they took out things from the country like animal buddies and the tag system, but I still had fun with Return and know I’m gonna love this. Hurry Feb 21.

Great news: Most retailers have started to cut the price of Wii U after Iwata defined the machine as a fish dead in the water. This means that the bar is much lower, and even more people can afford to buy it. Even if its a flop it still got some games worth to play. Most people havent played the failed, but oh great Mario World or the financial fiasco Pikmin 3. Also W101 was a huge flop, but still a very good game. UbiSoft made Rayman Legends multiplat after ZombiU failed, but both games are still very good. And soon Donke Kong will take a swing on this corpse of an console. Its dead, but not yet cold. And now at a much more reasonable price.

Ive posted this message all around the internet. And hopefully some people will pick up on it. 🙂

I love all of your comments. Can’t wait to see the response to this one.

Yes, I see you have found out how to use .gif’s

You know what though? What a win for me! The Wii U is by far my favorite console of all time and I absolutely love the games. With games getting discounted, accessories and hardware going on sale. I get to scoop it all up. People can say what they say, but at the end of the day. I win.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            good for you 🙂

            I know right! 😀

The worst thing is that, even if it is an irony, it is sadly true in some aspects :'(. Something is working badly at Nintendo, there is no denying. They are going to need more than 2 or 3 good games this year to fix it. And by fixing it I mean preventing a catastrophy. What actually feels very bad about it is that it feels like there are some good games that are not being played due to horrible management strategy. Also it feels that the platform is lacking games due to poor management strategy.

Mario 3D and Rayman Legends feel great (I especially liked Rayman for its cool use of the gamepad). TW101 felt good to me storywise and partly, thanks to the innovative mechanics, gameplaywise. I have many other objections towards this game that I detailed on other recent posts, but I think it could have been a much more successful game if some important changes were taken to it. Pikmin 3 and ZombiU are great, especially Pikmin 3, but not my cup of tea.

“Ive posted this message all around the internet”.

You have no life. So sad.

Lets talk about something nicer here instead of insult each others. Im just trying to help Nintendo here. If I can get ten people to buy a Wii U in Norway, I have doubled the sales for Wii U. Thats a contribution isnt it? Even if Wii U is failed and likely to be put out of production soon my contribution will help to move some of the titles that are released after its death. And thats good isnt it? You should help you too if you like Nintendo. Maybe you could draw some handouts and stand outside your local Gamestop and give it to buypassers? If you write a genuine heartfelt prayer that people should help out by buying a Wii U it could help. You can do a difference you know 🙂

You can get a life you know…..BAM!

How Euro…you love to dwell on the negative. As someone who’s lived both in Europe & in the US, I can say that’s the #1 personality trait difference. Reading this post simply reminded me of Europe. And yes, Im Euro as well, but I also have my US Citizenship.

I enjoyed DKCR alot, and overall, Rambi levels were still great, but they were sometimes forgetable in comparison to the other levels. They should have replaced Rambi with some other, animal from an old game, or an original one. Because how much can you do with Rambi that we haven’t already seen?

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Yes, a donkey 🙂

  • Schultz38

The ability to record, upload and view yours and other’s run-throughs of levels?! THIS. IS. AWESOME.

This video has me more excited than any promotional video Nintendo has released for DK so far…kinda sad.

  • Sycamore

Hopefully Enguarde will make an appearance as well. Would be perfect for that water themed world.

    • darkcreap

I probably did not listen correctly, but I think I heard on the video that Rambi would be the only character that you could ride. Maybe I misunderstood, it is possible, since I am not a native English speaker.

      • Sycamore

You are absolutely right. I didn’t watch the video before I commented. It’s a shame, I remember the original trilogy’s animal levels were my favourite ones to play. It’s a missed opportunity but I’m sure the game will still be great.

        • darkcreap

Squaks, Enguarde, Rattly and Squitter. Damn, I loved that spider in sport shoes.

          • Sycamore

Yes! Squitter should have his own game. Making those web platforms was so fun.

  • darkcreap

It looks great and alive. And I hope that it is as hard as they say. I am a bit frustrated with the latest Marios being too easy, especially 3D world (at least in multiplayer). I beat it with my friends in like 10 hours or so.

I also hope that it is more manageable with the gamepad. I did not finish DKC Returns due to being frustrated with the “shake to push Rambi further”, which made me stuck at the end of a level. I have to go back to that game one of these days…

    • That guy who hates Spike

Am I the only one that enjoyed the motion controls in DKCR? It made me feel great and free with the controls. Whoever made Donkey Kong’s controls should get a pay raise because shaking the Wii Remote for roll with Donkey Kong felt great.

      • darkcreap

I liked them at the beginning, but soon I got pissed off. Now that I can remember specifics:

-Call me clumsy, but the fact that you had to use the analog joystick to differentiate movements was not that good for me in the Nunchuck combination. I am not too precise when using absolute directions with the joystick. If you remember, if you shake nunchuck and wiimote while pressing down on the joystick makes you blow, but if you press left or right, you roll. Well, it is not nice when you want to blow a flower near a cliff and the joystick is slightly to either side. Analog joystick works great for me in 3D games and platformers as long as absolute directions are not required. if that is the case, I prefer the D-Pad. No way to confuse directions unless you press them both at the time.
-About this I am not sure, but I think that you had to either shake the wiimote or press some button to charge with Rambi and you had to do the charge action from time to time or it would stop suddenly. If I remember well my playthroughs through Donkey Kong Countries in SNES, if you charged with Rambi, you didn’t need to do anything but jump unless you collided with something. There is a stage in DKC Returns in which you have to run with Rambi because the floor is going down. I died countless times on that stage because the Rhino would slow down in a critical jump and fall down to its death. Just at the very end of the stage. How depressing…

  • starwars360

Look forward this game so much. Retro Studios know what they doing. I am so glad Rambi the Rhino returns. 🙂
