Today Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios have revealed the Project CARS limited edition package for the game. This limited edition comes with several pieces of exclusive DLC, as well as a steelbook case and a behind the scenes look at the development process for Project CARS. Five legendary cars are included as part of the exclusive DLC, including: McLaren F1 Sauber C9 BMW M1 ProCar Mercedes-AMG C-Class Coupé DTM 1967 Ford Mk IV According to the developer the Wii U will still see a limited edition release with all these contents included, despite the fact that the Wii U version of the game has been delayed to 2015. But definitely if you’re a third party studio looking to compete with Nintendo IP, knowing that the audience has evolved to favour first party content. Everything except the SteamOS version has been in quite a showable state for a while now, and all versions are considerably more finished than the E3 build was. I do know a while back there were efforts by WMD members trying to deflect blame from Bandaid and those posts were quickly taken down. So it seems you guys wanted to launch everything on November, Bandaid got in the way (for SSMB4 reasons as they are a developing partner), you guys have to stick to your own schedule and so it was decided to delay the Wii U version until a later date. In which case if any of that is remotely true, can we expect at least a January 2015 release? Bandaid could have at least stated as much, as 2015 in general can mean end of next year for all we know and that makes you guys look rather ill-equipped. I and most people probably wouldn’t be so peeved it there was a reasonable date communicated like January 2015 (and it was for real, not some pacification stunt), but right now people are essentially in freefall, unsure when to expect this. pez2k Bandai-Namco don’t really have much influence on the release date, past the lead time for manufacturing and distributing discs – they’re just a distributor. There’s no solid Wii U release date quite simply because there is no solid date yet, it relies on a lot of factors but it will be as soon as is possible. It’s just not possible to have it done for November or December 2014. As for all versions being in a showable state, mind that that’s not quite the same as a releasable state, there’s still almost another 2 months of work for any platform to get that far, including PC. Look in the past, Tales Of Symphonia HD Collection on PS3 when the 1st was only on the Gamecube (English Version) and the 2nd was only on the Wii, yet they remaster them for the PS3? Then Namco has no plans for a Tales game on Wii U, now with them taking over Project Cars as the publisher THEY delayed the Wii U version. So yes they have an issue with Nintendo. I of course don’t have the full story( any story) but regardless of any personal feelings the backers might have had SMS is simply too small a team to develop 4 systems, one being of a different architectural beast. They may see themselves as dedicated but it really just sounds more like over ambitious. For me, dedicated means promise on delivery and beforehand what resources are needed to fulfill orders. Being ambitious on the other hand carries a “we’ll see what happens,” willy-nilly attitude with it which is my view of the situation as it has unfolded. They saw how big the pie was yet believed they could eat it all in x amount of time. Fast-forward to current outrage. pez2k They developed Shift 2 for three platforms in only 18 months, and pCARS isn’t the only game that SMS are working on. It’s not really a manpower issue that is holding up one single platform. In terms of attitude, they’ve had a pretty solid plan all along, including contingencies – pCARS is their 8th full-scale racing game after all. Most western devs, or games made for the last gen ps3 and xbox, and the new xbox1 and ps4 require hefty system installs the wii u standard hard drive is just not compatible. Even if Nintendo upgrade the hard drive size, which I doubt they will, it will freeze out people who bought the 8gb and 32 gb versions. Install on something like project cars is probably in the region of 30 gb, so now they have to find a way to get all that to play off the game disk. I don’t know much on this ben I don’t either. It is just a theory based off a conversation I had with someone who said they were a dev. They said Nintendo wont allow games to ship on the wii u unless they work from the disk with no patching. I guess this is because the standard Hard drive just does not have space for serious updates, or day one installs. Based on this, I think this is a pretty big reason why the Wii u is not getting third party support. It also explains why publishers were bad mouthing the wii u. It causes them all sorts of problems for porting. Designing a game from scratch to work with out an install is not a big deal, however, making a game that was designed to install assets to a hard drive to not do that is an incredible amount of work, it could even prove to be a money pit. I love the wii u and its exclusives but my point, if true, means we will never see third party parity with PS or Xbox. It is not a power issue it is a standard storage design issue. And even as a wii u fan who does not care for third parties, it makes me angry that Nintendo did not consider the console needed at least 250gb of Hard drive as standard. If true, it means that once again Nintendo decided to go in the “other direction” just like with the N64 and the dawn of the CD based gaming system competition. Which means they lose out in the short term but they’re invested in long term strategies and technologies. The gamepad and NFC based venues being that they’re looking towards. In other words, slapping 300gb HDD just to appeal to short term gains and demands if the equivalent of low hanging fruit. Its smarter for them to invest in this way because they don’t have multiple business divisions to rely on for internal input. PachterStation You do know that the developers of Project CARS also developed Need for Speed Shift 2 and Ferrari Legends? Basically, 2 terrible racing games. Need for Speed Shift was decent, but it could’ve been better. Screen shots and vids don’t prove much and I’m guessing that most people who’re going to buy it, haven’t played it yet, so nearly all the hype has been based on how it looks. Fingers crossed it’s not Shift 2 in disguise. As for the Wii U version, I can’t see it being a big seller. Exclusive content will be an added bonus, more so due to the delay. Still, a waste of time on the Wii U due to probable low sales.
