Andy Tudor, Creative Director for Project Cars, had a recent interview with NowGamer about the game and specifically mentions the following about the Wii U version:

“The gamepad just screams new innovations for gameplay and is a perfect match when thinking about using the gyroscope as a handheld wheel like in Mario Kart Wii and showing data on the screen such as a map, telemetry, speedo, or rear view mirror.

“When you couple that with Miiverse functionality and community it’s a no-brainer.”

The title is being developed for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but the Wii U version seems to host the definitive experience of the game–at least that’s what I gather from what Mr. Tudor is saying.  The game will run at a full 720p and 30fps, but here’s some more of what he had to say about all the versions:

“Honestly, each has their own advantages: the PC will always benefit from the most bleeding edge processors and graphics cards but the Wii U has brand-new ways of interacting via the Gamepad, and the PS3/Xbox 360 versions continue to push those machines to their very limits whilst hooking in to already-popular systems like PSN and Xbox Live.

“So no one single platform wins I’m afraid!”

Ok, so he doesn’t come right out and say “Wii U will be the best experience,” but I can dream right!? I may be reading too much into such apparent praise for the Wii U. What do you guys think? Will this be a day one purchase for you? Let us know in the comments below!

    wii u the best

  • Thought this was a Wii U exclusive for some reason. Kinda cool to put infoon the gamepad, But I use cockpit view anyways with a wheel, I guess the graphics will be the deciding factor for me.

    • bizzy gie

Playing a game for the graphics is like watching porn for the story.

      • and that’s why you love your Wii U

        • Besides, I was saying that Graphics would be the deciding factor because as stated by Andy Tudor “So no one single platform wins I’m afraid!” PC it is!

      • Metal_Man_v2

Is it really the end of the world for someone to want the version with better graphics? I thought not.

  • Wait, What the hell is this dude talking about with “I may be reading too much into such apparent praise for the Wii U” there wasn’t really anything, he only said “So no one single platform wins I’m afraid!”. What an odd way to interpret these comments.

    • Robknoxious1

Yes but remember the author made this comment “but the Wii U version seems to host the definitive experience of the game–at least that’s what I gather from what Mr. Tudor is saying.” after the positive comments in the devs first quote. After the second quote that you refer to the author admits “Ok, so he doesn’t come right out and say “Wii U will be the best experience,” but I can dream right!?”. Basically he’s being humorous and admitting he was hoping that the Wii U version was a clear winner.

      • This is indeed what I meant Robknoxious1 and I do agree with you Kwis Wose, the PC version will no doubt sport some great graphics 🙂

        • I totally get what you meant, dude, But look at the comments now, everyone thinks that this is the Definitive version, It’s unfortunate that nobody actual read your article.

          • D.M.T

We did read it. Wii U version will be the definitive version gameplay wise, not graphics wise. Graphics belong to PC, everyone knows that but Wii U MIGHT HAVE the better gameplay.

      • Yeah, that’s cool, but This Joke went over everyones heads and Now they’re all bragging that the WiiU version is the definitive version, look at all the comments, It’s hilarious.

  • bizzy gie

When I saw this game, I was PRAYING it was a Wii U exclusive so it could go head to head with the PS4’s DriveClub. Oh well. Still an awesome game undoubtedly!

    • D.M.T

Nintendo can make a realistic racing game to compete with Forza, Gran Turismo and DriveClub. If EA doesn’t want to put their sport games on Wii U, than Nintendo should make their own realistic sport games. In 2001 they were developing an exclusive GameCube game called NFL Retro Football but it got cancelled when EA agreed to put their sport games on GameCube. Now that EA is being a little bitch, Nintendo can start developing realistic sport games for the Wii U.

      • jay

Nintendo’s sports game were gonna be insane!!

      • EA’s CEO is stepping down soon and the guy before him is temporarily filling in his position. So things can still turn around now that “EA’s biggest Nintendo fan” is leaving.

  • Nintedward

Wiiu will be the best version . Exclusive features , and the big daddy of all features that completely revolutionized how I game around the house – OFF SCREEN PLAY!!!!

Wiiu will be the best console version , graphic whores should probably get the PC version…
My place is relatively small. But get this , I can game in every single room in my house with offscreen play. Both bathrooms , front room , kitchen and the 2 bedrooms 🙂

    • sithWiiU

That’s opinion. Oyyou Nintendrones think Wii U has best version for everything.

      • uPadWatcher

        U mad, sithtard?

      • Nintedward

And only uninformed Nintendo haters like you think Resolution and framerate is the be all and end all of graphics. Even though Project cars at 720p 30FPS looks 10 times better than Monster Hunter Ultimate at 1080p 45-60FPS

      • gobrowniesgo

You should get one and see for yourself! l guarantee you will not touch another system because you’ll be spoiled.

    • Barzh

PC will be the best version, don’t kid yourself.

      • Human_Fatality

PC will be the best if you’re a graphic junkie. If you want to steer with the gamepad and have it as a rearview mirror at the same time the Wii u version will be the best for you.

  • uPadWatcher

Project CARS is #3 on my most wanted Wii U racing games. Need for Speed: Most Wanted U is #2 and Mario Kart U is #1 in my book.

  • Mr. Nidoking

It looks pretty good, but for racing games I’m only really interested in a new Mario Kart title right now.

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

Was I the only one who was slightly offended/disappointed by the ‘full 720p at 30fps’ quote? Hardly pushing the game or the console’s ability, especially by today standards.

    • Ultranist

Me too since all sim racing games like GT and forza are 60fps

      • Nintedward

30FPS locked is a perfectly nice and smooth framerate. People are confused with something. Certain game this generation have 30FPS but are not locked and dip . These are the games which have given 30FPS a bad name.

    • guest

and bf4 is supposedly going to be 720p on the ps4.

      • Ultranist

yea but it will run with 60fps

    • WiiUltra

As long as it runs extremely smooth its no big deal for me.

    • LonDonE247

agreed, forza on my 360 is native 720p at 60fps, an gran turismo 5 on my ps3 is native 1280 by 1080p, up scaled to 1920 by 1080p at 60fps, an both feel like a dream! racing games need to be standard 60fps, no less, a game like need for speed most wanted with a open city an destruction,an traffic is locked at 30fps, which is fine, but for a sim racer bare minimum should be 60fps! for ps3 an 360 fair enough, but for my wii u which is next gen, the developer should have pushed the hard ware a bit more, an strived for 60fps! shame, but should be a good game, regardless, when you own forza 4 an 5,an gt5, theres no point buying something like this!

      • Nintedward

Yeah , but Project cars is gunna have much better graphics than Forza 4 and GT5… The higher the resolution and framerate – the shittier the graphics get with consoles…. GT5 is not a good looking game and it plays like shit too.

    • Richard Yates

My pc runs 60fps with ease mate and im telling you now it is no massive leap if you have a good rig already that can hold 30fps steady!

  • I’m not a fan of racing games, so it’ll be a no go from me…

  • Matt

I’ll be looking out for this game.I’m always looking for new innovative game experiences.

  • redd214

Looks fantastic! Good to see some positive Wii U news for sure!!

  • Cadrion

Okay hold on a sec…did this article get posted in the wrong area? Usually, the better number of stories here is related to the doom on the Wii U. I mean that sarcasticly….I love it when we see a story that incluse a dev having the balls (and brains) to back the Wii U.

  • Metal_Man_v2

I’m kind of disappointed that the game will be 720 at only 30fps. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks great, but I would think that fps would be more important in a racing type game.

    • ps4ultimania

whats importnant in a racing game is to have a locked and stead frame rate that not droping much more then a few frames cuz then it can start to be effective badly

      • Metal_Man_v2

True, I don’t think this will have any frame rate problems per say, but I was expecting 60fps since that seems to where technology is going, and I want the absolute best framerate possible for a racing game.

        • D.M.T

Developers know that most gamers dont care about framerate. Only the super hardcore gamers care about framerate. Don’t be surprised if future games on PS4 are 30fps too.

          • Metal_Man_v2

That’s certainly a possibility with early releases for the PS4, but with the direction technology is moving, I think 60fps will be standard on all consoles, including Wii U.

    • LonDonE247

i saw a video fo this game, albeit a pc footage, but it had 35 cars on screen at once, an if wii u also renders high polly 35 cars to, then its understandable,. but i think 35 is just a cluster fuk, an everyone will keep bumping into each other, an not racing clean, like real life, an since its a sim racer, it defeats the purpose, i would have preferred if the car count was lesser,an it ran 60fps! shame really!

      • jay

what they do to fix this is, create longer tracks, so it creates less friction but yeah most realistic tracks aren’t as big as Mario Kart or Extreme G

    • Scott Loucks

The human eye sees lower frame rates like 30 and 24 as more natural than higher ones such as 60. That’s why most movies are 24fps, sometimes it’s too much information for your eyes at higher frame rates. I know this applies in video, not 100% sure it’s the same concept in games but it makes sense. What’s important is clarity and steady frame rate.

      • LonDonE247

thats total bull, regardless of what people say, 60fps is not just about how smooth the game looks, it also makes a massive difference in how the game feels, some people may not be able to notice between 30 an 60fps, but most will be able to feel the difference,an the human eye an defo see it,but most gamers, dont know or understand it, an so dont notice it, but the eye can see it,for games, 60fps is the holy grail, when console games are standard 60fps,native 1080p, then an only then will we be in gaming nirvana, LOL but serious,i agree with u that if a game is locked at a constant 30fps, then most times thats fine, for not for a racer, an for a sim racer is even worse, 60fps makes the input lag the shortest it can possibly be, an so makes a massive difference on how the game feels,an how responsive it is,an aslo when racing a car, 60fps helps you feel the speed allot more then 30!

      • Barzh

And here is an example of how misinformation corrupts the common sense of others.

    • Zombie_Andrew

Again to those who are disappointed at 720p (1) if you have a TV less than 36″ the difference is barely visible, and if you’re gaming far away from your TV with a larger screen and you’re engrossed in a game you wont notice 1080p. Really only PC gamers notice because you’re close to the monitor. Secondly a lot of next gen games for the PS4 will run at 720, for example Battlefield 4 for PS4 will run at 720p.

      • Barzh

That rumor you read somewhere is false; it was debunked a while ago. Killzone Shadowfall and Infamous have been confirmed to be at 1080p; these are actually confirmed.

  • Zombie_Andrew

Well he wants it to sell on every console TBH, I don’t blame him. PC will obviously be better graphically than any console, and that’s what makes the Wii U one so great, it’ll probably have in-between top end PC visuals and current gen console visuals (next-gen visuals) with the advantage of the gamepad controls.

  • Sidney Majurie

Been anticipating this game for a couple years now. Love racing games and it will be a nice edition to my ever growing Wii U library.

  • Mortalcon
  • Mario

Thank god! A developer is finally happy with the console!

    • Criterion was too. They gave high praise to the Wii U for a console of it’s price range and features. Too bad they are held back by EA.

      • gobrowniesgo

And they said it pushes past what it says on paper..

  • Guhtere

    This makes me happy.

  • Ryan House

Why only 720P. The Wii U is supposed to be Next Gen. I guess all that matters is that the Wii U version Runs the Best. Maybe more Draw Distance, No Screen Taring. No Drops in Frame Rate etc

    • Nathan Tull

dude get off of it already 720 p and 1080p dont look any diffrent form each other in the end quit being such a graphics whore worry more about gameplay bro if all you want is graphics go play a pc

      • Nintedward

I know right ? what has gaming come to ? it’s fucking pathetic that people are so bothered about something SO IRRELIVANT as the difference between native 720p and native 1080p …

And people are actually judging the graphics just by resolution and framerate which are the the way the game is presented and not really graphical assets.

For instance , if you had avatar graphics that looked exactly like the film running at 720p 30FPS , it would look light years ahead of current gen and probably light years ahead of ANY game that comes out on PS4 🙂

        • gobrowniesgo

l agree. The wii U may not always run at 60fps n 1080p, but it still looks and runs better than current gen..

    • Zombie_Andrew

Battlefield 4 on the PS4 is running at 720p :/

  • david daniel wharton camacho

lol this sucks compared to nfs 🙂

  • Petri

Seems they have nice ideas for the gamepad. But I dont like to steer with gyroscope.

Maybe Nintendo could come up with a wheel and pedals where you can mount the gamepad, to have a little more realistic handle of the car.

  • gobrowniesgo

This game could be sweet. l’d like to see more of it. If it looks anywhere close to NFSMWU, It will destroy the other consoles, just not PC..

  • Destiny64

will be the worst on a technical level

    • gobrowniesgo

l don’t think so…Maybe on the ps3 n 360..they like broken games. Nintendo wants quality..
