The Castlevania series may have made its debut on Nintendo systems, but according to producer Dave Cox, the latest iteration of the series won’t be making its way to Wii U. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be seeing release on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, but when asked whether or not the game would be ported to the Wii U, the answer was simple”

“Sorry to disappoint you, but no chance.”

Konami has always been pretty good at supporting Nintendo’s consoles, so it’s a surprise to see that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow won’t be available on Wii U. What’s even more weird is that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate will be available on the 3DS on March 5th.

  • GeDDeN

Yeah i have no idea why this game wont be ported over….

    • Jon Turner

Here’s the real reason why this game is skipping WiiU; Mercury Steam, the development team behind the game, is a rather small studio, and from what I understand, they financially can’t afford to do another version because of that.

I do expect that there will be a Castlevania on the WiiU in the future, just not this.  Still, I’m not taking this as a sign of Konami saying no to WiiU.  Even in the first years of X360 and PS3, there were some PS2 ports that missed the boat.  This is no different.  We’ll see CV on WiiU someday.  An original one, too, not just a port.

      • GeDDeN

        Good points

      • NkoSekirei

lets just hope they dont make another casltevania fighting game the last one was plain garbage and brought shame to the series.

        • Jon Turner

Oh yeah, that CASTLEVANIA JUDGMENT game was bloody awful.  CASTLEVANIA ADVENTURE REBIRTH was a much better title, although that made it to WiiWare.  Still, it did fairly well there, hence why I don’t see Konami skipping WiiU for CV.

      • Ultranist

they are making a port for PC even

  • Don’t know why but probably it has to do with the “so-called” slow cpu, before wiiu was actually released I read somewhere that this title actually was coming to wiiu and now they say it won’t, bummer, will get mirror of fate though but this news is another major setback for Wiiu, Nintendo and the many castlevania fans on nintendo Systems. Really strange they won’t do it, maybe they’ll clearify why not, but probably we’ll never know.

    • Wrong… it has nothing to do with the hardware.

      • TheLast

Correct, the trend following the Wii U right now with it missing out on 7th generation games has to do with the fact that porting costs time, money, and resources. Remember Assassin’s Creed 3 for the Wii U, how the Wii U version had a VERY small staff that had to rush to get the game out as the deadline closed in, while the PS360 versions got large teams that finished making their game a month earlier before being sent to help out on the Wii U version?

I’m no fanboy, and I’m not trying to defend Nintendo’s overall situation regarding 3rd-party support, but since I do a lot of research on these types of things I try to throw some water on the fire every now and then before things get out of hand. For example, last year’s E3 wasn’t that great, but Iwata told investors about a couple months earlier that they didn’t believe that they would be able to compete with their previous show the year before. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/01/nintendo-facing-limits-as-wii-u-launch-approaches

I guess people thought they were joking. :/

Off topic again, ZombiU had a 5M dollar budget, which is around the cost of development for a AAA GameCube game. This is because Ubisoft was and is working on other games with much higher budgets like Assasin’s Creed III, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Rayman Legends, Far cry 3, and Watch Dogs.

        Sorry for the Wall.

  • Chris C

It’s not a surprise or disappointment, just another game not coming to Wii U, as expected.

    • No worries… that’s why we are in a console gaming generation where it makes sense to own at least two consoles. For me it is WiiU/PS3 and if the price is set within reason it will eventually be WiiU/PS4 for my gaming needs.

  • Jon Turner

We already had this story.  But here’s what I think about this:  just because we’re not getting “Lords of Shadows 2” doesn’t mean we won’t get “Castlevania” at all.  I expect there will be an original CV in the future for WiiU, one that takes advantage of the WiiU’s functions.

  • Would love a little clarification…and a less assy tone. “Sorry, we have nothing to announce right now” works.

  • Johnny Star

People get used to not having games released on the Wii U people, I hate to say it, being a Wii U owner, but the console may have came out the gate dead! Maybe we’ll get Grand Theft Auto V or any other promising game. I thought the Wii U was going to have a huge third party support??

    • Jon Turner

Just a few months in and you’re already proclaiming the WiiU dead?  SERIOUSLY?  Give it time.  Third parties will eventually jump on the system.  No need to make such drastic proclamations.

    • NkoSekirei

its not dead idiot theres plenty of good games coming for the wii u this year like bayonetta 2,aliens colonial marines, lego city undercover, pikmin 3,retros secret wii u game, monster hunter tri ultimate and many more

    • Laud

We’re still in the generation of 360 and ps3, why can’t you see that? People don’t want to port to the Wii U because it’s architecture is new and porting would be difficult and expensive, get your head out of your ass.

    • Simply get yourself the PS4 when it is release to compliment the WiiU. I know I will since its clear Wii U will not get several of the key AAA titles.

      • NkoSekirei

nope wii u all the way

        • Srpg2ishere

          Exactly. 🙂

    • ThunderGod_Cid

Or MAYBE it’s because this game(and a few of those other games) have been in development for the PS3 and 360 longer than Wii U’s been in existence.

Because ya’ know, porting a game over to another platform involves a lot more than just burning the disc and slapping a logo on it.

    • Zelly Jeffers

They said the same with the Gamecube. Then they said the same about the Wii. So many are anxious to see Nintendo go under, like they’ve put money on it.

Wii U isn’t dead, nor is it going to die any time soon. The console hasn’t even been out two months. Sure third-party support is proving a bit disappointing in that few developers explain WHY their games won’t come to the Wii U. There’s still time and certainly still potential. If you really want more third-party support, support third-party games on the console, make your voice be heard.

  • bizzy gie

I really don’t want a Wiipeat here. With new games releasing only for PS3 and Xbox 360 because the Wii wasn’t strong enough to run most 3rd party games. Watching the ads and seeing the game cases with that specific game’s artwork in the lower left corner of the screen and that blank spot not being filled by a Wii game case. The Wii U is capable of supporting these games especially with the uped graphics, RAM, and controller. I’m sure it’s a financial, contractual, or technical complication.

    • Sorry sir, but your statement makes no sense… its not going to ps4 and 720…. its going to ps3 and 360, the Wii U IS stronger than those, thats for sure… if it was ps4 and 720 you could be right

  • NintendoNoob

Ugh they just don’t want more money do they?

  • LOL! Wow Nintendo! I love you guys, always have, but you better step it up if you want to be considered a ‘hardcore’ console. Who am I kidding; I’m not going to give myself false hope… Nintendo Wii U will be like the Wii. I love the Wii U for first party games, but there will be a reson why I’m also going to have an Xbox360 as well…

    • Firo0

its not Nintendo’s fault that the 3rd party devs wont make the games if you want the wii u to be more “hardcore” talk to the devs about it,email, call, rant on blog websites…oh wait.

      • You are 100% wrong on that one. This type of issues with 3rd party developers not supporting Nintendo consoles is Nintendo fault. They must make the effort to get games like this on the console. No excuse.

        • Firo0

Really? should they pay them off like Microsoft? do you have suggestions? because consoles are ALWAYS at the mercy of game devs and if they decide not to make a game for a console its not the companies fault there not going to strong arm them or anything so I really don’t know why you think Nintendo has any say in it .But please if you have proof that it is the soul responsibility of the console company to get 3rd party games on there system please post it I would love to see it.

        • TheLast

Would you like to wait 6 months to a year to play a game that would already be on other consoles the game was intended to be made for?

        • Revolution5268

um no that how the industry is with these 3rd parties.

    • Justin Gray

Like to see you beat all the challenges and stages on core Nintendo games. Playing Call of Duty all day doesn’t make you a hard core gamer. It makes you a tool.

      • Captain Falcon

        I enjoy playing CoD…
Well, mostly frustrated, but you know what I mean. CoD can be enjoyable without all the annoying kids, racists, glitchers, etc.

      • It’s not only COD that is third party. GTA V, Far Cry Games, Watch Dogs, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Lost Planet 3, and many more. In order for people in the general public and gaming community to say “Oh yeah Nintendo, they are cool” you have to have lots of third party support. Nintendo has little to non right now which frustrates me as a Nintendo fan. You might not agree that a console needs multiplats but if a game is for multiple systems and for the PC but not for the Wii U, I don’t want to get a 720, PS4 or upgrade my PC (which sucks) to get the latest third party title that everyone is raving about. I like Nintendo as much as the next Nintendo fan but you need third party titles to be considered “an acceptable console” to the general and gaming community.

    • TheLast

I don’t disagree with everything you said, but do know that the majority of the games that are apparently not coming to the Wii U (and are coming to the PS360) are games that they already had in development for quite some time until someone asked if they would bring it to the Wii U. Capcom already said that they would like to make new games from the ground up for the Wii U, instead of porting games that they have already started developing 2 or so years ago.

      •  Honestly, that’s what a lot of people in this community in general fail to realize, many of the games they keep pointing out have been in development long before the Wii U was thoroughly established and finalized, and they prefer to predict disaster for a console that hasn’t even been out for 3 months. A constant cycle that’s been happening in gaming since the PS3’s and 360’s beginnings.

“Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.” ~Winston Churchill

Besides, who’s to say they won’t come to the Wii U at a later date. Current example: Mass Effect 3. They didn’t say a Wii U version was being made while the game was in development for the PS3 and 360 and what happens? The Wii U one comes out for its launch date. Same goes for Assassin’s Creed 3.

The same happened with the PS3 with Bioshock years ago; 2K Games claimed there was no secret plan on bringing Bioshock to the PS3. http://www.destructoid.com/bioshock-is-never-coming-to-ps3-never-ever-ever-2k-crushes-the-dream-53928.phtml What happens in about a year? It comes onto the PS3.

That’s why I can’t be bothered with believing people like James over, so quick to judge doom and negativity for the Wii U without understanding the technical aspects and reasoning. Wait for games that will be developed simultaneously for all 3 systems for proof. Actually, you don’t need to, games like Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed and Injustice: Gods Among Us as evident proof that games that have not been in development for long would soon see a Wii U port.

        • MujuraNoKamen

What you said about many game being developed before Wii U was announced is true, it’s a shame some of the year’s biggest game aren’t coming to Wii U (at least not yet) but this should mean that support will continue to get better for Wii U – apparently Rockstar are considering a late Wii U port and Watchdogs could come later as well. And the next CoD, AC and RE games will be released on Wii U day 1 (no more late ports) so things are looking a lot brighter for Wii U than most people give credit.

        • TheLast

As long as Nintendo is trying to get 3rd party support, they will get it. And considering that they have never actively chased 3rd party support in the past, it’s really just that simple at the end of the day. (Something the IGN forums don’t seem to understand, they are too far gone.)

Currently, Nintendo has more 3rd-party support at launch than they have ever had for any of their previous consoles throughout most of their lifespans; this knowledge would normally be enough to keep the doom and gloom low, but since there have been articles like these every once in awhile, people have become a little irritable.

        • gabriel sanchez

But if you think about it how did all of the other games get ported so quickly like BO2 and Mass Effect 3 and others??? Maybe they allready had dev kits? Or maybe they wer quick about it and did what needed to be done… hmmmm…

    • Anthony K Aurelia

There’s no reason to own both anyways…both have awesome exclusives and their own niches.

    • Jonas

you are actually true. Nintendo should start to seriously think about their contacts otherwise it isnt a hardcore console. But i still think, its the prejudice od the wii, many have in their mind. It will be a bit hard for them

    •  you kinda sound like a pretentious douchebag, the WiiU is a fairly new console and they are still working with companies to get their hardcore titles on the system. you sound like the many imbecilic fanboys of the ps3/xbox360

      • Revolution5268

i can believe that the fool does not look on how xbox 360 launch was, compare to now it has core, BUT NO the fool does not give it nintendo a chance, if wii u does not have “core titles” in day one its automatic fail.

  • Dominic Coradazzi

Fine with me; the first Lords of Shadow was just a horrible rip-off of classic games but without the interesting parts… Who rips off Shadow of the Colossus?

  • NkoSekirei

how about sry im gonna kick ur @$$ for that sarcastic remark  dave cox.Eventuallly well get a castlevania for the wii u but not from this developer douche

  • That fine ..there loss but we have the walking dead coming that is a huge plus

  • RockD79

Rather insulting to see the game skip a Nintendo system where it was born 25 years ago.

  • Henry Hotspur

Good, this game is going to suck just like the first Lords of Shadow.

  • Zelly Jeffers

    So glib a response.

  • gabriel sanchez

I have a strong feeling if it is the devs faults that Sony and Microsoft are paying them so that the Wii U could fail, I mean really no Castelvania?? and realy no Crysis 3??? like wtf The reason why i bought the Wii U or went with nintendo is because I thought they stepped there game up… Yeah of course the exclusive nintendo Games are bad ass and Those Pokemon pics that wer just posted makes me want to play that shit! But man common I realy want the best of both worlds, This is how you will lose money and people NINTENDO!! No dont call me a COD Fanboy or anything like that because I been playin games since the freakin first nintendo, Ok ok you been playing atari?? Good for you, Pong?? Good for you. Turbo Graphix? O wait i Played that too. • devmiles

nintendo and castlevania was a hand in hand thing, always been. on NES, SNES, N64, all gameboys etc. It’s rather disturbing that the Wii-u is ignored now. I bet some weird Nintendo or developer issue is the case but fact is that this way the consumer is bypassed and feels ignored. not only konami but also other developers for some reason have issues with nintendo. no crisis 3, no castlevania.. what’s next? … not good i can tell youEdit

  • WarioForever

Lately, I’m just hearing that companies wouldn’t make a games for Wii U (Resident Evil 6, Crysis 3, Skyrim, and now Castlevania). And we say Wii U is a 3rd party console… I’m dissapointed. Will be there any 3rd party games in the future at all?

    • Petri

who has asked for skyrim on wii u?
games in development, and ports of games released near launch I can understand.
but skyrim was released in 2011, development started 2008-2009?
but I wont cry if I dont get games that were in development before wii u was announced.

  • Wing Zero

I don’t care about 3D Castlevania just give us 2D  ones

    • devmiles

Super Castlevania 4 for SNES is absolutely my best one

  • sorry i bought a wii u the only games wii u will be getting is MARIO

  • wiiucompl

The best Castlevania was on GameBoy.
Now its time for better games –  with Wii U I prefer very good Call of duty Black Ops 2 – Multiplayer is perfect. ZombiU, Fifa13 or Nintendo Land are great too.
Honestly – I do not care about the lack of FarCry 3.

  • RyuNoHadouken

Major fail by Konami….almost everyone who owns a Wii U would scoop this up….oh well, guess ill keep playing BLOPS 2 until something interesting comes out…. 🙁

  • devmiles

Another missed nintendo chance! really fucked up!

    • Jonathan Hickson

Uh. NO. To be honest I’ve never even HEARD of “castlevania” until now. And I’m also sure a majority of 360 or ps3 fans never did either. But if they do then whup de doo for them. Just another fantasy game no reason to get angry.

      • brownygtst94

You must be pretty young castlevania was on the nes back in day.. Was a great game.. thing about kids these days its all about halo/cod… recycled milked fps that people remember shame.

First of all it should not be a surprise that a bunch of
games are not coming to the wii u. With how much time and money is spent
developing video games it’s hard to incorporate a new system when a game is
close to being finished. Games take years to make, it’s not rocket science.

  • Although I care nothing for the Castlevania series, I still want to add something here.

Just because the WiiU isn’t getting some major new games, does that automatically mean the console is doomed? NO! The console is just hitting it’s TWO MONTH MARK. What, do you expect every new game that’s coming out on other consoles to automatically appear on WiiU?

It’s a BRAND NEW console. These games have been in development for who knows how long! They just can’t port over every title they were already working on years before to a totally new platform at the snap of their fingers. They need the TIME, the MONEY, the RESOURCES.

Support for the WiiU will come. Goodness, the year just started. Wait until E3 swings around. I’m sure a lot of you who are already facepalming at the U will drop your jaws.

  • SoulSilverZero

Can we at least have MGS: Ground Zeroes on Wii U?

  • Richard Yates

Are u on meth  johnny star an all ninty haters? The wii u is selling steady an it wasnt even a strong launch line up….imagine if there was a zelda or mario game with release? And uhm lets see nintendos history……..nes gave us d pad……changed games 4eva….snes gave us shoulder buttons……people was like damn why didnt we think of that? N64 gave us thumbsticks….changed it up big time! Gamecube…well meh it was just a stop gap til the wii………and we all know what the wii brought to the table.
Now they gave us the wii u which is next gen and with propper online play like we all wanted and has a touchscreen with a cool indie game scene to tap into?? 70 percent of sales for games last year was for mobiles remember? Nintendo innovate they dont imitate. dual shock…..ps move….sonic…..kinect….etc.
P.s Watch all the kids go ape shit for wii u’s when lego city stories comes out…..including 32 yr old kids like me 😛
Oh and i own all systems an love them all.

  • SinkyChan

I think people need to stop being so fucking butt-hurt every time someone brings out the blatant obvious fact that the Wii U isn’t perfect. Neither was the Wii, and this is coming first hand from somebody who hates the Xbox 360, and uses his PS3 PURELY as a media center.

To be honest, no console has my attention right now other than the Wii because I play VC games on it. Honestly, I feel like everyone’s fucking up now. It’s 2013, and every game is shit. Get used to it.

And stop being so upset when someone says the Wii U isn’t the best. Going for the ol’ “lol well u play call of duty” attack is so fucking played out, old, and dumb. Who cares. People jumped for joy when CoD came out for Wii + Wii U, i bet you all did too. At the same time, yeah, CoD is garbage in my opinion (IN MY OPINION) and I think Xbox is shit, but whatever. It’s cool to voice your opinion, but if you’re old enough to log onto Wii U Daily and write a post, at least have the maturity to say sensible reasonable shit in it. Fuck.

  • Srpg2ishere

This new daily layout is still confusing to me. I constantly keep changing between my username superstick and srpg2ishere because I don’t know wht I’m doing!!! >-< -Sigh- Ya know what never mind. Let's get bck to the discussion. What is castlevania? Oh and is anybody getting rayman legends at launch or anytime afterwards so I can get your nintendo i.d? Also lego city. If your getting that at launch you can give me your network i.d for that too!! My network i.d is Srpg2ishere.

    • MujuraNoKamen

I’ll be pre-ordering LC:U soon I think (gotta get me that mini figure if it’s not too late) I’ll add you then maybe.

      • Srpg2ishere

Oh cool!! 😀 Btw this is still the same guy who posted the comment above you. I told you it was confusing. XD lol.

  • jason power

Konami might not be releasing castlevania, but who cares. The series is gone down the tubes like Resident Evil. Heres hoping for an exclusive Goeman Title. Why are people so caught up on ports of games. If you want to play it, buy the console or better yet, play it with higher resolution on a PC. So what if the Wii U doesn’t get ports of games. Its got its own games.
Metroid, Smash Bros., Pikmin, Wonderful 101 and Zelda etc. Now what game were we talking about again ?

  • Lazara the Last

Never heard about it before and wasn’t buying it anyways, so I couldn’t care less.

  • Srpg2ishere

They’re probably not porting this because it’s been in development for too long or they have better plans for us wii u owners. Wouldn’t you prefer a whole new castlevania instead of waiting a whole nother year or 2 for the same game? I know I would. Haha. Let’s enjoy our rayman and lego city while we wait. Those 2 games are probably better than the castlevnia releasing now anyways.

  • Petri

Has there been a good Castlevania game after Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest?
Tried some demo on ps3, and it felt kinda gay.

    • SinkyChan

? Have you ever played Aria of Sorrow or Dawn of Sorrow? Those are both fucking dope

  • tomtank91

I know it’s not the best game to get but come on why won’t they make it on the Wii U.

  • I have a feeling that the Wii U will not last very long by the looks of things. It seems alot of game developers that are bringing out amazing games this year are all snubbing the Wii U and as a result the console is going to suffer for it.
