During the Nintendo Direct today, Satoru Iwata announced that Pikmin 3 would be receiving new downloadable content in the form of new mission modes. An update for the game is also available right now, improving the global ranking feature so you can see the highest score in the world for each stage.

Currently additional mission mode packs for the game are being sold for $1.99, but a single free mission is available for those who download the update. We’ll probably see more DLC and mission packs for the game as time goes on. Are you excited to try these new missions? Let us know in the comments!

it needs online battle mode. That would turn Pickmin 3 into a game to continue to play.

It would make it an eSport in no time.

      • Dez

        Yeah, no.

Pikmin 3 wouldn’t cut it as an esport. It is hard enough to break into the esports seen thanks to bloody mobas cannibalizing everything. StarCraft is struggling more recently and when a game of the magnitude is having a tough time, Pikmin 3 would be dead in the water. Nintendo doesn’t really seem to be aware of esports either, it took a huge backlash to permit Melee at EVO; Nintendo would need to massively support said game if it were to be an esport and I’m not sure Pikmin is exactly viewer friendly.

Oh man, just don’t let my wife know, she’s fucking cut-throat in this game. I used to go easy on her, now I’m fighting to keep up.

  • I have yet to play the mission modes. Are they fun? I am still working on the story mode. For a system so many claim does not have games to play I have a hard time not finding a game to play on that system.

I haven’t had time to finish ANY of my Wii U games fully, except NSMBU! (Unless you count NSLU as part of NSMBU, then I haven’t beaten it.)

    • They’re really fun. And there are leaderboards to compare yourself to, so it’s fairly competitive as well!

    • Michael DeVore

The Mission Modes are fun, and I find them a bit better than the main game for finding the shortest route. To get the shortest time in the main game requires using glitches to get to 9 days.

I stopped playing once I hit Plat on them all so this will be an added bonus for me. They really need an online mode for Bingo Battle.

It’s nice to see DLC so soon after the launch. This was a surprisingly fun & satisfying game, so I’ll check it out for sure.

I found the story mode to be a little short. I returned it to gamefly already. Fail

Pikmin has always had a pretty short story mode. It’s designed to be played through multiple times in an attempt to perfect your score, losing 0 pikmin, beating it in record time, or whatever else you want. To this day I will occasionally pick up my original Pikmin and run through the story over the course of a few days (once you know exactly what to do, it REALLY doesn’t take long) just to see how well I can do. It’s more of an evolving experience that keeps on giving, rather than a one-off super playthrough

I agree, online bingo battle would be great or online co-op. I will purchase the new content…but I wish it had a few new bingo battle maps!

  • babulibaba

I want bingo battle maps or online

  • I’m actually really happy about this. I wanted more missions since day 1

  • Marcus Navarro

Pikmin 3, MH3U: DLC done right.

Glad to see Nintendo getting with the times! A single free mission is a great way to get Nintendo fans, many of which have aversions to DLC, to see the benefit of developers continuously supporting their product.
