Early last month we told you about Namco Bandai’s new title, called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. It looks like the game will be retailing for a slightly lower price than most games, as both Amazon and Best Buy have listed the title for $39.99. The game is being based on an animated series that will be launching this summer.

It will include unique power-ups, multi-player and both co-op and competitive play modes. Not much is known about the game other than that and currently there’s no known release date for the game. You can check out the release trailer below.

  • Jim Wanstall

    Getting this

  • Billy_Perry

To me, this just seems like shovel-ware, something that the Wii U should be avoiding.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yes, agree. Its really not room for titles like this now. They should release it on the Wii instead.

    • Jim Wanstall

You can tell all this from one video , yet the wii u eshop is full of games like this , got to give it a chance, we’ve only seen a snippet ,there is probably more to this game than that , the clue is in the name

    • Elem187

      Shovelware? are you insane??
Oh you must be one of those kids too young to remember Pacman, so you are what? 12?

It isn’t on the level of Super Mario Galaxy, but it destroys the vast majority of platformers not made by Nintendo.

  • Magnus Eriksson

    No thanks.

  • Adam Baker

Not hype for Pac man and the ghostly adventures.

  • Potemkin

It looks like a 5 dollars game. This is not a game I want to play.

    • RockieOllie

Pac-man World 1 & 2 looks way better than this.

      • Baum 「ツリー」

still looks better than Fast & Furious Showdown 😀

        • D.M.T

Even Mario 64 looks better than Fast & Furious Showdown.

          • MTGSWE

            Mario 64 😀

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Heeey… Mario 64 looks great.

          • D.M.T

I never said it looks bad. My point is that a 1996 game looks better than a 2013 game

          • Arthur Jarret

What are you talking about? F&F:S is one of my favorite games! Definitely in my top 10 together with Zelda: The wand of Gamelon on CDi, Superman 64, Aliens:CM on PS3, Duke nukem forever and ET on Atari 2600.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Love those games. Nintendo have a lot to learn from such masters of videogames.

  • Wayne Beck

Glad to see other publishers adopting Nintendo’s policy of charging a price more equal to the games value. There is no need to charge maximum retail if the dev costs don’t require it. I think I will buy this just to support the idea of reasonablly priced games.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Funny thing, talked about this yesterday… Games are priced at the same level here in Scandinavia as they where 20-25 years ago. Super Mari Bros 2 cost me 499:- back then, this is exactly the same price New Super Mario Bros costs today. Relatively, games are actually a lot cheaper now than before because of the raise in salaries and rise in consumer price index the last 25 years (Norway) and costs to produce games.

    • Nintyfan10

Exactly why Nintendo price a rehashed, milked, add-on, repackage game known as New Super Mario Bros. U at USD$ 59.99 right. pssh fanboys.

      • Wayne Beck

You do realize that 2d mario is the most popular game ever made right? Not even just by a little bit. These games are practically guarenteed to sell 20 million copies. Just because your a jackasd brogamer who can’t see past fps and action games, doesn’t mean Nintendo should abandon the most popular video game formula ever created. The only purpose of a new 2d Mario is to give the tens of millions of fans more levels to play in the style they love. If Nintendo was so bad about pricing, they wouldn’t be releasing a full sequal for thirty dollars and giving it to fans who already bought the first one for twenty..

  • Gabe Hoffman

Smart Move by Namco. Game does not look like its worth 60 dollars

  • peeer

Personally, I’d buy the classic PacMac game from the 80’s as a virtual console title before buying this game at any prices they can tag it lol.

  • I would like Ms. Pac Man on the Wii U’s virtual console..but the arcade version..whenever the arcade virtual console decides to appear

  • john madsen

awesome i cant wait i like the platforming pacman world series from the xbox and this looks just as nice for the wii u

  • BuckStud

Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness on the Dreamcast was a great game. I just hope this game will be as much fun.

Sadly, looking at the comments here, you can tell the 15-25 year old crowd as if you aren’t sniping a person at 100 yards in the game, it must suck.

  • david jarman

I don’t know, it looks fun. I’ll get it and let you guys know how it is.

    • Thanks, I will wait for some reviews as this game could be fun even though it is not on my interest list based on what I have seen.

      • david jarman

No problem. The artwork takes me back to Saturday cartoons when I was a child.

  • Morits Lian

I said that an eShop title would fit.
They didn’t listen, and I’m not gonna buy it I guess.

  • DeedsGaming .

I wouldn’t pay $10 for this… let alone $40… We want Dark Souls 2, not some lame Pacman game, Namco.

  • Superstick98

Um… I think I’m going to have to watch more videos before being sure about this one . _.

  • Pac-man really should be left where it was as a great arcade game. “New” Pac-man games are really just bad.

  • Guest

  • LarryGobbles

What will be worse…the game or the animated series?

  • I love Pac Man but I don’t want to pay that much for a Pac Man game

  • greengecko007

This is why some developers don’t want to develop for the Wii U. They think it is hopeless. Just look at some of these comments.

“It looks like a 5 dollars game.”

    “I wouldn’t pay 10 dollars for this.”

“To me, it seems like shovelware”

Really? I thought this was a great trailer. The 3D environments look great, the music was upbeat and fun, and there were obvious new power ups and gameplay designs. It’s also retailing at $20 less than the standard price. It looks like a fun 3D platformer to me, but I guess a lot of Wii U owners would rather play a rehashed 2D mario game, or pay $30 for the game again just to play as Luigi.

    • Relick

Good. These ‘some developers’ you are defending are MAKING SHOVELWARE. We don’t want it! I didn’t see any of those comments on the sonic posts, or the rayman posts, or the resident evil posts, or the platinum games posts, or the scribblenauts posts, or the lego posts, or the batman posts… if its a good game people won’t bash it.

My opinion when I watched the video? Character models look great, environments are bland and stale. Gameplay looks fun, music is uninteresting.
It’s not quite shovelware, but honestly it really isn’t an amazing game either.

      • greengecko007

Actually these “some developers” are the devs that made Bioshock Infinite, are making Thief 4, Battlefield 4, and Dying Light, and more. Are these games shovel ware because they are highly anticipated games that are skipping the Wii U? The reason they are skipping the Wii U is not because there is a low install base, but because that current install base is content with playing Mario, Sonic, Lego games, and Scribblenauts.

        “Gameplay looks fun”

I seem to remember Nintendo fans saying all the time that gameplay is all that matters. This game was just announced, this is just a trailer. Yet so many people think they know everything about it and that this is all there is to the game. Wait and see before you make such harsh judgments. This game looks very promising. I would much rather pay $40 for this than pay $30 For New Super Luigi U.

        • Relick

First impressions are everything. You think I’d go out and buy a game where the only trailer made it look bad and none of my friends had it and there was no form of advertisement at all (other than this trailer)? If I was a casual I would probably NEVER look at this game again.

Game publishers love people like you because it gives them an excuse to make lazy games and lazy adverts.

          • greengecko007

How is this game lazy? How is this advert lazy?

I understand that you aren’t impressed by this game. It’s perfectly fine to have your own opinion on a game. I wasn’t impressed at all by the Sonic Lost World trailer. It’s interesting that you bring up that you wouldn’t buy a game that isn’t advertised, but someone in this very thread said that they shouldn’t even promote this game. That’s ridiculous.

          • These guys should just admit that this game is not for them and quit speaking for the entire gaming community. Honestly it doesn’t look like something I would play either but others may enjoy it just like many people seem to enjoy every CoD that comes out every 6-8 months despite looking to me like the same game over and over but the new one has a dog.

          • Relick

I’m sorry that I may have implied that I spoke for the rest of the community, but I most definitely said “My opinion when I watched this video” and my example in my second post was just that – an example – not what I thought about the game.

Yes this game may not be for me. But it’s Pac Man so I’ll see how it will develop and I may end up getting it and having fun. What I’m trying to explain is that the advert is meant to get people excited about the game, and I’m just not excited about it – and if I’m not then I know there are other people who aren’t especially casuals who will never look at this game again. Sorry :/

          • Relick

            I didn’t say I wouldn’t buy a game that is advertised, I said if I was a casual I wouldn’t buy a game that was poorly advertised.

That’s fair enough, I’m a long time Sonic fan and not so much with PacMan so I understand if other people don’t see Sonic Lost World as impressive as I do, and I understand that long time PacMan fans will see this game as more impressive than I see it.

The music does not use a variety of notes and is very generic dance music. It has a hint of PacMan but really doesn’t feel like video game music at all. This kind of non-passion is what I’m talking about when I say it’s lazy. If you don’t have the passion in a game, then you cannot possibly have a truly excellent (or good for that matter) game. It is as simple as that.

          • greengecko007

Actually, you did say that. But I can understand that you may not have meant it.

“You think I’d go out and buy a game where the only trailer made it look bad and none of my friends had it AND THERE WAS NO FORM OF ADVERTISEMENT AT ALL”

Caps just so you see it.

You also have to understand that our personal opinion on a game does not dictate the quality. You say the music doesn’t use a variety of notes, but really, one of the most iconic songs in video game history, the Song of Storms from Zelda only has 3 notes. To me, the techno sounds are perfect for a modernized version of a retro game.

It’s fine for me and you to not like something, but we can’t say that the developers are lazy just because it doesn’t suit our personal tastes.

          • Relick

            Sorry, you’re right.

Although when I meant variety of notes – I meant that they were all crotchets. Not the actual pitch. I should have made that clearer sorry.

          • Your first impressions do not fall in line with everyone else. When I see a new CoD game my first impression is “Oh great… another war game” Because war games or most FPS games are not my thing.

I may pick on them because of my own personal tastes but I also understand that many like to play these games over and over.

      • thats what i thought about pac man world 2. boy was I wrong

    • discuss

Yeah some people are so wierd! They value quality hahahahahah!!!

    • Billy_Perry

You quoted me, so I feel I must respond, or at least post a counter argument :D.
(and before anyone starts raging, I’m trying to be civil and nice, to have an honest discussion about our opinions.)

One of the biggest problems Nintendo faces is their image, and rectifying their image to suit not only casual gamers and mainstream gamers, but also the hardcore gamers.
It is fine for this game to come out on the console, but no one should actively promote the game for Wii U. What if this is someones first impression of the console? Be honest, it dosen’t exactly stand up to the AAA standard of quality as say Mario Kart, Zelda or Mario.
The games that we should be writing articles about, the games we should be supporting, and the games we should be advertising are the both 3rd and 1st party AAA titles that are coming to the console. Games like this Pacman game will always exist, they will always be pumped out of studios to make a quick profit. The AAA titles that are supporting Wii U may not exist for much longer (They might back out), they are the games that we should be talking about/writing articles about.
This period of time surrounding E3 and this coming fall is really make or break for the Wii U (NOT Nintendo, just the Wii U), it dosen’t need games like this, we shouldn’t support them.

This game may be good, but it does not appeal to the people that are going to keep the Wii U on its feet, which are exactly the kind of titles that Nintendo needs right now (Watch Dogs, AC4, COD:Ghosts, Rayman Legends, etc).

      • fireheartis1

Dude I don’t care what you say I’m a huge fan of the old Pac-World games so I’m going to buy this one. I’ve loved Pac-Man since I was 5 and now I’m 32 and I want this game badly. I think you are completely wrong about this game. It’s going to amazing and fun. The trailer proves that. The world is straight up Pac-Man how is that not exciting. The world doesn’t look bland at all. COD: Ghost isn’t going to sell nothing it looks like a Ghost Recon rep off. Watch Dogs, AC4, Rayman Legends now that will get people interested. Pa-Man: And the Ghostly Adventures will appeal to more people than COD will in my opinion. This game is appealing to old school gamers like myself. Screw COD I for on am very tired of the COD series. Games like Conduit 2 are what FPS games are all about not COD. This game looks like they put a lot of heart into it and that right there makes it a good game.

      • greengecko007

You’re worried about Nintendo’s image? Please tell me more about how Pacman hurts Nintendo’s image towards “hardcore gamers” more than Mario does.

Nobody should actively promote this game for the Wii U? Are you seriously trying to suggest that this game shouldn’t be advertised so that people can know about it and buy it? That’s completely unreasonable.

As far as AAA first party games like Zelda and Mario, there is no Zelda for the Wii U now, and the only Mario game for the Wii U is New Super Mario Bros. U, which is just a rehashed Mario game.

“it dosen’t need games like this, we shouldn’t support them.”

What an awful thing to say. Again, this is exactly why developers don’t want to make games for the Wii U in the first place.

    • Magnus Eriksson

You have some good points here. It IS looking great for a Nintendo console to be. This game pushes the boundaries of the Wii U to the maximum, and it would be wrong of us fans not to support it. This is actually almost at the level of PS3.

      • david jarman

It looks fun and takes me back in the day when Saturday cartoons ruled!
Multi-player would be awesome with five players kinda like mario chase in Nintendoland. That would be great for families and friends.

  • iceazeama

this game is going to suck, also who who would of known pacman was like this. him and the rest are showing there true colors hahahahah.

  • TaintedXGamer

don’t forget this is the same company that brought you tekken >_> and are helping with smash bros U. I may buy this actually 🙂

  • fireheartis1

Man people hating for absolutely no reason is just stupid. This game looks great and every time I see the trailer I say yah babe I’ve got to pick this up, and now that I know it’s going to be $40.00 like Sonic and All Star Racing Transformed I’m going to pick it up for sure. SASRT was awesome and well worth the 40.00, so I bet this will be too. Screw all you people who are hating this game going to be awesome.

  • Destructonator101

It looks crap. Thats why its listed as 40 bucks.

  • Josiah Parsons

    looks awful

  • Nicolas Dorion

I was a big fan of pacman world 2 when i was a kid, no doubt i’ll buy this game

  • ItzameyaToad

I for one am excited to see more details on this game. The $40 dollar price point makes it more appealing in the since that if it is no good it won’t sting as bad as paying $60. But I see this game being great I mean it is one of the legendary video game characters of all time with what looks to be kirby like abilities. This looks to be a great platformer and im excited to hear/see more about it!

  • leafsfan73

Don’t see many good games coming out of Namco these days. First Tank! Tank! Tank! Now this uninspiring game. Frankly, I think PacWorld on my Gamecube was a much better game than what this looks to be. Maybe it’s time Namco packed it up and called it a day.

    So is this correct?

    Namco Bandai=PAC-MAN

    • Elem187

      Pretty much.

  • Elem187

I’ll buy this on nostaglia alone… But it actually looks like a fun 3D platformer… Seems like both Sonic Lost World and this game are taking a lot of cues from the Mario Galaxy games.. which isn’t a bad thing with how good those Galaxy games are.
They are really smart for releasing this title for $40… 99% of games released today are not worth $60… its so bad even shovelware is releasing for $60. I think $40 is the sweet spot for most titles, its not too expensive to say no, and its cheap enough for an impulse buy on a Friday.
