Fans of the former PlayStation exclusive Oddworld series will be happy to know that developer Just Add Water revealed new gameplay footage for their upcoming Oddworld: New n’ Tasty, which is an HD remake of the PS One classic Oddworld: Abe’s Odysee. The game is not just an HD remake in the sense that textures were changed. The entire game has been changed from the ground up to support entirely 3D models on a 2.5D plane.

This video shows off new visual effects and sound design. The game is scheduled to debut on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, while PC and Wii U will follow.

Loved these games. Good to see it will come to Wii U too.

A positive comment Magnus. I am shocked!

      • Lusunup

I’m not his either a troll at heart, or pretty much not a fanboy xD

    • didn’t play any of em, so it’s nice to finally get the opportunity.

  • Ace

Visuals look good and the gameplay looks fun. Will be picking that up when it comes out.

  • steveb944

    This looks freaking awesome!

  • ActivesiN

looks fun, never played the original so it will be new to me lol

  • BIG Franky

this was a frigging GREAT game back in the day… I cant wait for this….. I will probably pick it up on PS4 because I am not sure I can wait until Wii U…. if you never had a PS and never got to play this game… .PLEASE do yourself a favor and pick it up when its available! while I am super pumped that they are bringing this to Wii U, part of me likes how they are having some loyalty to Sony and giving them the release first after many years of being an exclusive… it just seems right.

    • Kay Wrobel

Agreed. I first saw that game on a classmate’s PS One. Later found it for the PC for not much and bought it on PC. Loved every minute of it. Very recently tried to load it under Linux, but was not successful. But with this release coming this year, I am all but sure to revisit Oddworld again. Might even pick it up on PS3 if the delay for Wii U is too much to handle. And maybe pick up the other games they have on PS3, like Munch’s Odyssee.

      • Roadkill409

I will be picking this up on the Wii U. Did you try installing it using WINE? From what I can tell, people are getting it to install on Ubuntu 13.10 without much issue. I might go buy me a PC version of the original and see if I can get it to work. I just downloaded the Munches Odyssee that Sony gave away on the PS+ a few months ago to get ready.

  • Kay Wrobel

Ohhhh mannnn, this is going to be the BEST. That Abe was my favorite game back on the PC. And I played it all the way through. Love it. Looking at this new footage, it seems to me they actually stayed very true to the original including the very intro. But it’s in HD and looking AMAZING! I want this right now. Only question for me will be: PS3? Wii U or PC? I might just go with the Wii U version for the (hopefully properly implemented) off-TV play.

Curiously absent from this list is the Xbox 360 and XBone. They used to have this game for the original Xbox, right? No. I stand corrected. Looked at Wikipedia and it doesn’t mention Abe’s Oddyssee for that platform. But I remember them releasing Munch’s Oddyssee for the Xbox. So I’m surprised this isn’t coming to 360 or XBOne. At the same time, I don’t care that much. Desired platform is: Wii U!

    • MerryBlind .

They don’t release it on Xbox platforms because they got fed up of Microsoft’s policies regarding digital releases. It was so complicated and time-consuming to try to release Stranger’s Wrath on the Xbox Live Marketplace that they just gave up on the platform altogether. I think Stranger’s Wrath didn’t even release on 360 even though they had a 360 version up and running.

  • Only played a demo on ps and liked it a lot, but at the time I had very little money and when I did couldn’t find it anymore 🙁 So getting this for sure on Wii U.

  • MerryBlind .

Always wanted to play this game and its sequel, but never got around to do it. I will definitely pick this up, probably on PC unless there are some interesting Wii U features.
Actually, since it’s probably not very demanding, it will probably run 1080p60fps maxed out on all version, PC or not, so I might pick up the Wii U version just for Off-TV play!

It looks very good game. Its graphic style remember The original donkey Kong country.

  • WiiUPS43DS

I heard this game will be 30 dollars not sure i want to pay that much for a rerelease even if in HD

    • thedeciderU

      too much

      • NyallJodhan

        Not for me.

  • darkcreap

Excuse my ignorance but, this is not an indie title, is it? It’s because there have been many indie announcements for the WiiU lately.

It is good to see more games coming to WiiU for those who will enjoy them. I don’t know if this one will be my cup of tea, but clearly it is good for everyone.

    • David Trail

It is good news indies are awesome.

      Mario Kart 8 out soon…

      GBA and DS games too!

    • CyanideInsanity

I don’t think so. Its being developed by Just add water and published by the oddworld series company, Oddworld inhabitants.

      • darkcreap

Good then, I was beginning to think that traditional third parties were not going to ever come to WiiU. Hopefully, indies will lead a great momentum and other third parties will come.

  • thedeciderU

ugghhh, another game releasing later on wiiu. had part 1 and 2 on ps1. fantastic games.

  • Rodger_Ramjet

Oh yeah! I’m definately getting this for WiiU! eShop is king!

  • jrob23

These are the types of games that need to be on the Wii U. As long as Nintendo can get games like this, Shovel Knight, and try and get games like Minecraft (the sequel?) and Rayman, the Wii U will be worth a purchase. Losing out on some of these more mature themed games might suck for a select few of us but it doesn’t make sense for those devs nor Nintendo to care. There is one big game that I think the Wii U needs in order to get some more sales and that is Fifa. I personally haven’t played any of them but it seems like if you want to do well in Europe you must at a minimum have Fifa as the audience is vast. If Nintendo is not going to get EA games, surely they can create their own high quality sports games. I know I would buy one if it was done right..or is the appeal of Fifa the ability to use your teams and favorite players more so than game play?
