Nintendo is pushing the Wii U to be much more than a gaming machine. The console will launch with Netflix support, and other streaming apps like Hulu, Amazon, and even YouTube. Because of this, and the new Wii U GamePad and its features, former Nintendo manager David Yarnton believes that gamers and people alike will use the Wii U every day. In the latest issue UK tech trade paper MCV, Yarnton said “The Wii U is something we want people to pick up every day”, adding, “not only for gaming, but for watching TV and online browsing as well”. Yarnton added that the Wii U will be a such revolutionary and unprecedented product that people won’t realize they needed a device like that. Pretty much how Apple saw the introduction of the iPhone and iPad. We’ll have to wait and see how the Wii U situation pans out. There is no doubt that the console is revolutionary, in that it’s the first major gaming console to add a secondary screen to the controller, in addition to featuring a whole slew of motion controls. The Wii U will include a “second screen experience” in Wii U channels like movie streams. For example, when watching movies via Netflix, the tablet screen will display information about the content watched on the main screen, with chapter selection, IMDB info, and more. Nintendo has allowed app developers to use the secondary screen however they see fit. local_offer Netflix Nintendo wii u stars Further Reading Confirmed: Breath of the Wild is the last Wii Nintendo Switch won’t have Netflix or m Switch vs Wii U game case size comparison Miyamoto dismisses the Wii U as a “nece 6 reasons to grab a Nintendo Switch before March 6 reasons to skip the Nintendo Switch for now Cyan Ram Although the TV remote function may seem to be a minor feature, I believe that it will play a very important role in integrating the Wii U to everyday use. But only if the software is executed properly. I’m hoping to see TV guides, as well as channel information. Wii Uoops! So the Wii U is a gaming console, a computer, and a TV itself. COOL! markw1982 all the wii u has to do now is make coffee and cook dinner and then im sold Ed If the console can be in a “Sleep mode” and I can do stuff like, stream movies, check the Internet, and plays games with ease, I will be using it everyday, Nintendo, I will. Steventelation just, a little, too many commas Alienfish They’ll probably make it just as compelling to keep the power on as it is for 3DS. I seriously haven’t purposely turned that thing off since I got it aside from a few cleanings. Devilus Have nintendo ever met a gamer?! Good games you tend to wanan play til you fnish it. Or that it never ended. Sure I get they want to take on the apple market but why do more and more gamedevelopers keep abandoning what made them who day are?! Hardly any games today couse such emoutions has ff6, mario rpg, yoshi’s island. sony shifted from this track too, and microsoft was hardly ever in it. Today such games are almost not even a handfull wich is a shame. There is a huge lack of emotional feel of games, what they mean, we could feel the honest work put in to it as art and developers were more free in their work to create this is what made the big guns. In short truly the soul of the game. This is what is lost today. Mike Wow, just as I expected, a ”Nintendo is not allowed to do anything but gaming” person. In case you didn’t notice, MS does the same thing, unlike Nintendo, they don’t make much games anymore, but Nintendo still makes beloved franchiss, and there are going to be even new IP’s (Just Google it, instead of asing me about the new IP’s.). Devilus I never said that its wrong to do more things with a consol or expand the market. I clearly said that what I did not like was that the quality of games came at a loss becouse of it. And if you read all that i said I too state as you say that MS does the same thing. Again I was not sayng I am against what they are doing in that sense I just disagreed with that that such action has come at the cost of less highquality games wich I belive was not nessesary. So if you want to argue with me thats fine, I dont mind the disscussion just dont qoute me inacuretly or without context. Sure theres coming new ips and and some might be really super great. I myself considerd Xenoblade chronicles to be one of the best games I have played in 10 years, wich is kinda my point, these kind of games diddent used to be so rare. And they did not want to realese it outside japan becouse they thought it would not sell well, but it did wich kinda made them mad becouse it goes against everything the statistic is telling them what kind of games sell. Its been like this for a long time now and they howe shown nothing to change my thoughts on that. I hope they will dont get me wrong I just aint seeing it happen anytime soon. ljljlj take a chill pill buddy !!! darkfox IMO Nintendo is the only company who makes games I want to play and finish. Its about what you like. I got tired of Fallout quick but every Zelda I can not put down, even Skyward Sword with it calibration issues (I thought all my Controllers were broken at first) it did not stop me it is an Awsome game. Mike I can already see how ex-Nintendo fans will use this as a argument on ”how Nintendo went into a bad direction”, I see it like this, Nintendo has stayed like they were, the Wii wasn’t much more powerful, because Nintendo could not take losses, they are a gaming business, so a money flow since Day 1 is needed, and now they are adding other things, not like Microsoft, who FOCUS on other things, Nintendo makes games AND things like these. david6 Actually gamers do like this, their online sounds interesting as long as dont moderate or use friends code. Its just fake blasphemers to gaming code that ‘x-fans’ dont like. Anything can be hd, even vita has hd raymen, but theres a difference between avatar and dora the explorer in hd. Power matters. Nintendo use to say, ‘now your playing with power’, now they point their fingers and say ‘no pudding peasents’. pach ‘Now your playing with power’ i miss that. uPadWatcher I have to strongly agree with the former Nintendo UK manager. The Nintendo Wii U is truly a 3-in-1 console. A gaming system with better graphics with a brand new gameplay experience. A social system where you can chat, share and communicate. Video chat and Miiverse are one of the many examples. And an entertainment system where you can watch streaming movies on Netflix, viral clips on YouTube, and you can even surf the web. When NoA President Fils-Aime says about the Wii U, “…it does everything.”, he meant it. And I’m sure I will purchase the Wii U… not only it’s a 3-in-1 console, but also an affordable system we’ll all enjoy playing, socializing, and entertaining together. SUV Lol. I like the Wii U too, but don’t take Nintendo’s marketing too seriously. Zhaf you can’t take any marketing that seriously… marketing = formal way of lying.. though there are marketing that are true, you’ll never know what are they hiding.. unless you go and see it for yourself.. look at sony for example.. they advertised the Vita’s remote play.. I believe many ppl bought it for that function.. look what happened? eventhough, I don’t hate Sony.. I just choose not to buy Vita.. simple.. suv Marketing is just a way to build hype and get consumers to buy products. I understand people are really stoked for the new Wii U (myself included), but they should make sure that they aren’t blindly listen to what someone feeds them. Do you really think that the Wii U is truly a 3-in-1 system that will do everything and revolutionize the way we watch tv, talk to friends, and etc. No. I have a cell phone to reach my broskies and have on demand programming via my cable provider. I am just telling people to think for themselves because people will be tricking you left and right if you don’t. Icanseeu “Wii does everything” Xan it play Blu Ray discs? uPadWatcher Stupid question much? You are aware there’s an invention called the internet. And in that invention, you can use the Wii U to stream movies and TV shows like Netflix and Amazon… you can even watch viral clips on YouTube. DerikGotro64 I think this is all cool. darkfox this is the most excited i have ever been about a game machine and i have been arount since the atari. Nintendo Entertainment System that is what it is all about not pixels and polygons GPUs and CPUs it nice yest but at the heart of it is the joy of gaming, the “Entertainment” Something most kids fail to understand. Hardcore is what you make of it playing to 100% compleate is hardcore not a game with explosions that the story sucks and the only reason it is ever played again is multiplayer like Halo (Or Most FPS) and why is uncharted so popular? has anyone everplayed tomb raider ’cause far as I see its a copy sorry off topic but im tired of the ‘Hardcore’ who do not realize that they are not because anygame can be casual or hardcore it gepends on who is playing and what you do in the game. Beat the Original Pac-man Thats HARDCORE or play a few levels thats CASUAL TheMaddMan Dittto, Pac-Man is totally bad-a** Adam I’m in Common Sense Guy How I define a “Hardcore” Player is a person who plays every game genre ranging from RPG, Plat-formers, Adventure games , Action games,Open world games, RTS, Puzzles, Tower defense, and who don’t need Google or a guide to play Dark souls in their first play through. Not just a single copy of a shooting game they play over and over again telling everybody around him how pretty the guy holding a gun looks on screen saying how “Hardcore” he looks. darkfox I would not play Barbie’s magic pony dress up game or Elmo’s count with me, so I guess I just not that hardcore. I do not think you have to play every style of game just get the most out of it, although I do have a few of every type in my library (except the above mentioned) like I said games are not hardcore or casual it is the player and how they play, I play COD casual, but must find EVERY star in SMG2 before I play something else. I did not just beat God of war but HAD to get ALL powereups and skills maxed ond finish ALL extras I was going hardcore on that game but like I said COD pick up and play a round or two online and play something else kinda the def of casual huh? but I bet 90% of players will argue that it is a HADRCORE title correct? T13char YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Whoever doesn’t agree with this is a cod fan or a guy that doesn’t know much about gaming. Here are my friends. “oh the new cod game looks good.” me – “what’s new about it?” “the guns and perks and kill streaks are changed entirely. Wow. Thats it? Zhaf well I define an hardcore gamer, is someone who spends time on a game or multiple games, more than other normal gamers.. prolly 12 hours per day? i dunno.. that person is even more hardcore if he/she plays many genres like you said, while maintaining long hours of gaming.. and I agree, playing shooting games like CoD, or play games only with good graphics, excessive blood and gore.. does not make a person an hardcore gamer… like many immature kids self-claimed these days… I remember a video, a guy playing tetris like a boss, on an arcade.. he played it, on a single coin, up to the last stage… and that last stage, the blocks are invisible, yet he beat it with no sweat… that my friend, is f***ing hardcore in my book… Skunk Shampoo Wii U is the second major console to have a second screen on the controller. You remember the Dreamcast? The VMU’s were a pretty cool concept. I just wish they had batteries that recharged when you plugged them into the controller. Common Sense Guy Zhaf, chillax, Nintendo obviously model their system after the Ds which sold more hardware than the Ps3, xbox360, and the Wii the Ds is only second to the Ps2 for selling the most video game hardware in history . The Asymmetrical gaming concept is not new news to the 151.52 million Ds owners and 17 million 3ds owners who are looking at this new console and can clearly see for themselves that if they match the gaming library like the Ds the wii u should have no problems selling their system. P.S. Any body who is a PlayStation Plus member like me knows that Sony is diffidently taking the Wii U seriously because they would not have gave 10 or 20 games out “technically” free on the day of E3 if they did not think they were a threat. While I am waiting for the Wii U to come these games that were given to me out of fear will keep me busy until Wii U launch. in other word compitetion is very good for gamers yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ^_^ Common Sense Guy I meant skunk shampoo, chillax, Nintendo obviously model their system after the Ds which sold more hardware than the Ps3, xbox360, and the Wii the Ds is only second to the Ps2 for selling the most video game hardware in history . Get out of gaming all together and find another hobby! There is no point in stressing yourself or everyone around you out! Life is too short. suv Agree. I don’t understand the irrational hate for N. They are a great company and they don’t have to buy their products if they don’t like them. Neonridr I just hope the big N learned their lessons with the Wii and have their assembly lines on full production from the get-go. I really don’t want to have to beat up some poor kid to steal their Wii U like I did when the Wii launched (just kidding – I was lucky to nab a preorder spot). I want to make sure there are plenty of units available to the masses! Daemonrunner I wonder if the TV remote functionality will go beyond just TV and become a true universal remote with touchscreen controls (e.g. Harmony One remote). MYCO OK X Inuboy I all ready use my Wii every day (currently going through Skyward Sword trying to beat it). I hope I’d wanna use the Wii U everyday.
