In 2009, Wall Wireless filed a patent suit in Texas against Nintendo, stating that the company violated several patents in its Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi product. The legal battle against Wall Wireless has continued on for five years, but Nintendo claimed victory today as the United States Patent and Trademark Office finally cancelled all patent claims by Wall Wireless. The case was officially dismissed in a U.S. District court in Texas yesterday. This dismissal of patents also coincides with the decision made by the Japanese patent office, which found that Nintendo did not violate any of the patents claimed by Wall Wireless. Nintendo of America’s vice president Richard Medway was particularly pleased with the decision, stating that the company will fight any claims of patent infringement, no matter how long they may take. We are very pleased to see the U.S. case dismissed, and also to have the Japanese Patent Office confirm that Nintendo does not infringe Wall’s Japanese patents. Nintendo vigorously defends patent lawsuits and other proceedings when we believe we have not infringed another party’s patents. It does not matter where such cases are filed or if it takes more than five years to vindicate our position. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others. Despite this win for Nintendo and the lawsuit dating back to 2009, Dutch electronics firm Philips has filed a new suit against Nintendo, claiming the technology in the Wii U violates patents held by the company. Philips has moved to have the Wii U banned from sale in the United States until the case can be closed. I also patented holding your breath more than 5 seconds. Then I went and patented dying from the lack of oxygen. I also hold patents for genetically and evolutionarily grown gills, so dont go making those either. My plan is fool proof. I went and patented fool proof plans as well. Mario Never!! Petri Then we’ll see in court, I kindly ask you to travel to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, so we can start solving this matter. Mario Never! Sleepyhun I patented the elemination of need of oxigen. Come to me pay me one million dollars (little finger to mouth) and you wont have to pay him. Brian Lockett I patented the English language. I demand money for every word you say. jjbredesen Great that they won, i think i am going to patent everything i can and then sue everybody for it xD, that seems like the way a lot of these companies think. And now of course they have to fight Phillips :/ Makes me sad, how people misuse the patent system… abe You’d think the amount of these they win vs the ammoubt they loose would make people hesitant about sueing them. yet its almost weekly newa jjbredesen Yeah, but it is so cheap to sue, even when you are a small company, and you can make a huge amount of money, like with the 3DS case. It is tragic, but some people are really desperate :/ Chase U I’m also waiting to see who won this week’s MK8 contest. Shouldn’t it have been announced yesterday? Ashley King I’m announcing the winner and posting the new contest later today. Rob was out yesterday so it had to wait. jjbredesen Okey, looking forward to it, btw the homepage has not updated, so i don’t see any new stories since the Hyrule Warriors story, have to go through FB.. Ashley King Refresh your cache or disable adblock for the site. jjbredesen Thanks! jjbredesen I have had adblock disabled for a some time now, so that you guys can make some money. Sid Walker what contest? Jeffrey Floyd Honestly these companies make random vague patents or ones that cover about every touch screen, or in the Phillip’s case case, every motion control remote out there. Virus6 The Philips one strikes me as odd considering they describe the Kinect and EyeToy to a T and neither Sony or Microsoft are being sued. Jeffrey Floyd Yes what they did described would also include those, but the fact that they didn’t target them may just be that they don’t feel like they could take on Sony and Microsoft so they’re just going for Nintendo. palomino blue I aint afraid of no trolls. Vakua Dorn TROLL BUSTERS! Sid Walker im a troll J_Joestar well that is 1 down at least, though how many more are going to keep popping out of the wood works., truMADDness That’s the world we live in. If a company(Philips among others) can’t create their own thunder, they have to steal(by lying and saying they have been stolen from) someone(Nintendo) else’s thunder. WiiUPS4 Another win for Nintendo Sam Don’t companies know not to sue Nintendo? They’ll lose EVRY SINGLE TIME. They beat Universal Studios back when Nintendo was just starting out in the U.S. William Cole Nintendo rarely steals ideas. If they do, they’ll admit it. Nintendo is the last game company that would steal an idea. They… basically set everything in motion with that NES they made. Sylux And Nintendo’s stock rise while Wall Wireless asks Bankruptcy, soon to be followed by Philips… I’m ashamed to be Dutch after this ridiculous patent claim from Philips. Gratz Nintndo for making another patent troll bite the dust. KH So another one bites the dust. Phillips, will be the next one… therealruben1 NINTENDO NEVER LOSES TO TROLLS!!! Virus6 So wait… Philips wants Wii U to be banned until the case is closed? Can they do that? What if it takes 4 years to settle and Nintendo is not at fault? That’s millions of units worth of sales they could potentially lose. iamserious Nah just a couple hundred thousand. That’s all. I kid I kid! 😛 Rinslowe This is one day going to make a really interesting book… Josiah Parsons thank. freaking. goodness. jlahoud Screw you Phillips …with a philips screw! Philipps are another compagny taht is looling to have more money and attention so theyr pick on Nintendo …now ? the frist Wii was lauched in 2008 ..why now ? i hope taht Nintendo will will this case the same way theyr won against starwars360 Nintendo and I having sex!!!!
