Nintendo has managed to score yet another victory in a suit filed against it for patent infringement. In a press release issued by the company today, a federal appeals court confirmed that Triton Tech of Texas’ lawsuit against Nintendo for infringing on one of its patents is invalid. The lawsuit was filed in 2010 and involved the Wii Remote controller. A district court in Seattle previously rendered the patent invalid, stating it didn’t refer to a full invention.

Nintendo of America’s deputy general counsel Richard Medway had this to say about the settlement:

“We are very pleased with this result. Nintendo has a long tradition of developing unique and innovative products, while respecting the intellectual property rights of others. Nintendo continues to aggressively defend itself against patent trolls. After many years of litigation, the decision today reflects an appropriate resolution of this case.”

This is just a long line of patent lawsuits filed against Nintendo for its technology used in the Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and the Wii U.

I will pay $25,000 to the person, company or entity that effectively makes the word ‘Troll’ go away once and for all.

    • Well…we would have to kill off the entire human race and by that point….$25,000 goes to nobody.

  • Logan Wayman

What’s next? Nintendo being sued for a patent infringement involving their market-merging consoles?

    • Gameonfool

You wait, some one would cry ” but we already had a similar idea, didn’t know what to do with it but I’ll sue “

Yes it’s true. And even Orlando Bloom is going one further by stating specifically his portrayal of Legolas from LOTR…
And that he is suing Nintendo personally for the excessive use of “Bloom” effects in The WWHD. As his last name is “Bloom”

      No really….

  • lonewolf

    • Jon

they are probably going to keep doing it because of that ONE time nintendo actually lost.

      • jjbredesen

        • Jon

yeah, they lost once with the 3DS on the 3D stuff or something.

  • oontz
    • Rinslowe

I actually preferred the Wii U Daily version. Most of the claim was already well known. No need to sift through the particulars all over again right? Better to realise that the suit against Nintendo has failed indefinitely. That was the point…

      • oontz

fair enough, sometimes though people do want more info or at least a source/link they can follow for more info.

I wouldn’t call these guys patent trolls, triton tech are in fact the original owners of the patent. But what killed them in court was the fact, that by the time they filled the lawsuit the patent was expired. Also they tried to sue apple and that never goes over well. But anyways patent trolls are usually people who buy small that some how covers allot of basic stuff and then try to go after companies who are “violating” the patent. In hopes that said company would just go “oh well whatever” and give them money to shut up and to leave them alone.
