Wii MiniThe Wii U has launched and is selling out quickly across North America, but Nintendo isn’t abandoning the original Wii just yet. It recently received a new price ($130), and according to rumors from a retailer, Nintendo will release a new “Wii Mini” console next month.

According to the rumor, the Wii Mini will be smaller, come with a sensor bar, and a Wii Remote Plus and Nun-chuck controller. Nintendo has actually done something like this in the past, releasing the SNES 101 (or SNES Mini as most called it), after the release of the revolutionary Nintendo 64.

So we wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo released a $99 Wii Mini console. The Wii received a redesign last year, which saw the console lose the GameCube ports and shrink in size. According to the rumor, the Wii Mini console is scheduled for launch on December 7.

The Wii Mini would likely be suited for emerging markets like South America, and those who can’t afford the new Wii U. The Wii U can play all older Wii games, and supports all of the accessories.

  • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

Okay, well, I have a Wii, so that’s pretty useless.

    Dare I say FIRST?

    • Nintenjoe

Oxford Street Hoomvé launch for a chance to get 2 free games or just go to bed early and pick my preorder and 2 £40 games from Blockbuster…?

      • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

How late will you be up? Do you have work/school in the morning?

    • opticine

I might just get it for collecting purposes.

    • Nko Sekirei

wats the point the wii is alrdy dead and the wii u is on the rise so why bother they should just focus on making more wii u s to be available for people that still doesnt have one

      • Jonen

many people are considering getting into video games, but are unsure whether
they want to spend 300$ to try. also, there may be parents who have been thinking about buying their kids a console, but thought they were too expensive. this is where an old cheap console is just the thing. it has a big array of games and is old enough to be recognized and trusted by most people

        • Nko Sekirei

the problem is nintendo isnt planning on making anymore wii games

      • 911RollingThunder

They have. Also, the SNES was dead when the N64 came out, but they still made the portable one none-of-the-less.

    • Nko Sekirei

ok i set up a avatar on gravatar so how do i transfer my avatar to here

      • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

its automatic. nice avy by the way, by your name i was expecting something different… 😉

and hopefully yours has gamecube ports.

as hard as gamecube games are to find, the gamecube
      has some truly brilliant games.

  • Nintedward

It’s going to end up about the size of a DVD case lol.

    • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

Size of a gameboy 😉 The discs fit in a pocket dimension.

      • NightºƒCore

The size of a GBA SP… Folded up

        • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

The size of a NES controller.

    • Andrew

Try doing that with a PS3

      • some gUy

Is that photo, of a ToS character?!

        • Nin_Stream

Looks like Genis? (Spelling) From the Tales Of Symphonia game.

        • Foetoid

          Yeah Genis Sage.

  • Nintendude

…Don’t most of us already have a Wii? And if not, some of us probably have a Wii U to play Wii games.

    • Poncho

You clearly did not read the article.

“The Wii Mini would likely be suited for emerging markets like South America, and those who can’t afford the new Wii U.”

    • goginho

Well ..the article clearly states, “The Wii Mini would likely be suited for emerging markets like South America, and those who can’t afford the new Wii U.” ..(in the last paragraph).

  • afro ninja

I already have a wii… but i want a wii u for christmas! Im a kid so i dont have too much money (sadness)

    • Madmagican

You just described my position perfectly… also, I feel like the mini Wii is gonna be about as successful as the gameboy micro; worthless in my eyes

    • Zomegax

Yeah, same here…if I dont get one for christmas then I dont know what Ill do

    • eli bought his wii u without preordering!

      • NightºƒCore

    • Nko Sekirei

      LMFAO u spelled great wrong

      • Gamecube U

        OMFG he spelled great wrong.(Sarcasm)

  • gamer101

the wii is small alrady how small does it need to get

    • eli bought his wii u without preordering!

the size of two flashdrives sdcard and disc drive that small

    • WiiMiiBro

      Smaller, according to Nintendo 😛

  • Mushroomgarcia

WHO DOSENT HATE NINTENDO!? Anyways when i get wii u sombody send my a friend request my name wiLL be MIGUEL.G I just want friends from wii u daily!!!

    • CRT_hater777

You realize you just said who DOESN’T hate nintendo right?
That means you’re suggestioning that everyone hates Nintendo.
      Which is FALSE

      • thejam216

I think he was just asking it was a genuine question, so when read with the right inflection, it’s not suggesting anything negative at all =] Just accounting for the fact that there are strangely some haters that post on here 😛

    • Captain Potato

ME! I don’t hate Nintendo…so when I get a Wii U, you can have my ID! OK amigo!?

  • kjjskj

    • Master of Awesomeness

      Personally, I hope so.

  • Tobbe

    No no plz Nintendo dont

  • BananaPwnz

    Huh, thats sounds pretty cool.

  • Mida

I really hope this doesn’t confuse people

  • Linskarmo

This could be confusing if they don’t market it very well. But maybe they’ll make it smaller and cheaper to manufacture and thus cheaper to buy. I have a Wii already, so I wouldn’t need one of these, but it would make sense. I think marketing would have already started if this was a valid rumor, though.

    • Nintendonoob

I swear since the Wii was already small the Wii-Pad mini (sorry cant get I-Pad mini out of my mind) would probably be the size of my TV remote

  • Anubis

Nintendo said they will stop working on Wii games. So I doubt that they will be working on the acuall (I spelled that wrong) consoles, just bundles.

  • james braseton

hi there yeah wii mini has only 256 mb flash storage wii has 512 mb soo you complaniened that 32 gb flash storage too small try 128 mb or 256 mb dsi has only 256 mb

  • james braseton

oh for got too mention i have the 32 gb wii u delux soo i have 128 times bigger storage

    • eli bought his wii u without preordering!

      BLAST! i couldn’t preorder i’m lucky I got a basic set but I really wanted a deluxe 🙁
i just relized how random that comment was…..oh well!

  • Dan

If ur wii u still disconnecting wifi, try turning off auto dns, and manually enter it as on wii u website,, for freezing, turn language to english only on miiverse and games,,, hopefully a patch will remedy this issues soon

  • nic

i have a small tv in my bed room and would really like to get an affordable console plus need more wii motes

  • Cyanide

I bet this won’t play GameCube

    • eli bought his wii u without preordering!

      tears from my eyes
gamecube games are the only reason i’m keeping my old wii

  • D2K

It would be a colossal waste of time and money for Nintendo to do this. Just lower the price of the Wii, pack in bunch of games and a extra Wii-mote and call it a day.

  • james braseton

hi there yeah 128 mb or 256 mb flash storage

  • ncv144

This might turn out to be much like the Gameboy Micro, aimed for markets like south america, which people still think of as places without much money but chile and brazil are among the worlds biggest economies and people live well there and most already have a wii (like the rest of the world). Anyway, This might just remind nintendo that you dont just take a console and make it even smaller and market it as a different console. But i hope it doesn’t cause i dont want Nintendo to lose alot of money since they are my favorite video game company. (P.S.: sorry for long rant :P)

  • Prussia

I’m not sure about this, Nintendo…

  • bg

It will sell a tone if it supports a HDIM cable.

  • 30yearsofnintendogaming

hmmmm…… i honestly dont see the point of it. is it to fit in a living room? cost cheaper? not saying its a bad idea, but i just dont get it.

  • Yo mama

Wii u mini with a larger game pad screen

  • wellsberg

give me a portable wii and we gotta deaaalllll lol have it come with a wiimote stylus

  • Nintendork

WTF???…… A mini Wii what is the point of it. I have 2 wii’s a white version and a black version. why would i want a mini wii. Nintendo should call it Minii lol.

  • marioravesto3d

As they say other parts of the world are a few years behind it’s more or less for them.Bring on the wii u that’s what I say !

  • Volcano

The wii mini? hope nintendo can focus both on this and the wii u.

  • LordiMcKill

They should call it Wii Diddy instead.

  • Wow

I will get it if it’s hacked. My Wii is pretty beat up.

  • Kingas of the Pingas

    Heard this days ago

  • MrAllOverIt

I’m getting ready to trade mine in. Even if the mini is real(which I doubt) why would I bother? Seems like a waste of time.

  • Nintendonoob

Well where have I seen this before? *cough cough I-Pad mini*

  • Nintendonoob

“The Wii mini supports all Wii games..” BUT IT DONT SUPPORT GAMECUBE D: D: D: D:

  • elite

What i thought they quit manufacturing wii games? Or was that quit producing games

  • Coldheat

    Mini Wii !

  • Cubical_M

INSTANT BUY!! Naaah almost got my Wii U!!!

  • Hetsumani

The problem in South America is that the consoles are sold at almost twice the price than in the US, that’s why they don’t sell well here.

  • Teves153

    Ok why?

  • TheMan

Are you serious with these news? The Wii Mini exists for like a year already. You can buy it in europe. No big deal. It is out there for months.

  • Philybeef

We all know the real reason, they most likely still have a warehouse full of Wii components that IBM/AMD and other companies won’t take back so they’re trying to make the last bit of money possible while getting rid of the last few Broadway CPUs and Hollywood GPUs they have left in stock.

  • Fireheart

I would love to see what this thing looks like. The SNES Mini actually sold pretty well because people couldn’t afford the N64 for yet. The Wii Mini will probably not sell as well, but I suspect people will still buy it for their kids because they can’t afford the Wii U. When Wii U finally goes down in price then people will give up the Wii Mini for the Wii U.

  • ProppaT

People are missing the point. If Nintendo offered HDMI out on a mini Wii, modified the OS to allow 1080p video (not game) output, preinstalled Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/YouTube, and offered an optional $10 purchase that allowed DVD/file playback and charged $99, all of a sudden Nintendo would be highly competitive in the set-top market. If given the option, would you buy a $79 Roku or a $99 mini-Wii that offered a large back catalog of games on top of video streaming services?

  • Hamza

How does this wii mini look like

  • SoulRider

I know a lot of my friends got a wii purely for the Netflix capability on their TV’s. If the WiiMini still keeps the old Wii Apps, I bet they could make at least a small profit. Though, they still have competition with Apple TV.

  • nekocchi

This has been confirmed. It’s at Best Buy Canada.

    • AlienFanatic

Yup. Exclusive to Canada. No internet access. Won’t play Gamecube games. Really stripped-down unit.

  • Orion Wolf

So the Wii mini thing is official and it launches in Canada December 7th…here is a picture of the thing the design is quite interesting, completely different from the Wii.
