Pokemon is a big deal for Nintendo and its fans. The company had a strict embargo on the game until today for reviewers, but a regular guy managed to get his hands on an early copy. User kosthedin on Instagram began posting shots of the game, which quickly earned the ire of Nintendo. The shots were swiftly deleted from the service, but not before they spread around the Internet like wildfire.

According to a report, Nintendo was able to pinpoint the area of the leak and actually flew someone out in order to reclaim the stray game. Kosthedin found out about the tactic and handed the game back in order to preserve his friend’s job. We don’t know whether kosthedin handing the game back managed to spare his friend or not.

If that doesn’t show you that Nintendo is serious about Pokemon X & Y, I’m not sure what else does.

  • XD wow. I bet nintendo is pretty pissed at the store that let it get out early.

  • Sdudyoy

I heard about the leek, but I haven’t looked into on account of spoilers, I hope no one had this game spoiled for them.

    • They were deleted super quickly and the sites that posted the leaked images were sent cease and desist orders. Most Nintendo fansites didn’t bother posting the images because they knew the wrath of Nintendo.

      • Sdudyoy

Like Serebii, I was partly thinking that these leeks where fake, I was wrong.

        • gtosheex

Yeah and i bet Farfetch’d is happy the “leeks” aren’t fake =P

  • Anomandaris

did that someone happen to have some ninja stars with them

  • Marcus Navarro

Let’s step into their shoes for a bit:
You have one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Some of the magic involves letting players play the game, giving players the element of suspense as they journey across a foreign land. You want players to explore this land with much vigor, anticipating what could be around the corner.

And just as players are going to be able to experience this, some rotten asshat gets his hands on the game before anyone gets a fair chance to and starts spoiling the surprise. It’s like a group of treasure hunters finding out the contents of the trove before they get there: the experience is gratifying, but the end is stale.

    • Sdudyoy

Agreed, and you forgot to mention that Nintendo was releasing the game worldwide at the same time just so no one would get spoilers over anyone else.

      • Marcus Navarro

        It was implied! 😀

        • Sdudyoy

          Sorry about that 🙂

    • The True Gamer

I understand the logic on Nintendo’s part, but I really just want Nintendo to announce the exclusive parts for each game and the starters.

      • Marcus Navarro

…or you could find out about it. Also, the final starter pics are still up.

        • The True Gamer

I mean the Ken Sugarmi artwork

          • Marcus Navarro

        • Baum 「ツリー」

Well it’s always been a pretty big part of your decision wich game you get get (if you’re not buying both anyway).

So he’s right, that they should at least announce the exclusives.

    • LopsidedPasta

I never seek out spoilers, and I only even view pre-game hype from a few trusted sources, including Wiiudaily. I didn’t even know about the supposed Super Smash Bros 4 leaked cutscenes until I heard about them on here. I still haven’t seen them!

      • Kirbyomega

The leaked cut scenes were from brawl not smash bros 4 XD. That article was a little confusing

        • LopsidedPasta

          ooooohhhhhhhhhh ‘k

    • Dude

Not only that, but Nintendo has worked for decades to attempt the first simultaneous release of the series. Being that it’s typically released games 6-8 months (sometimes more) in Japan before it releases to other territories. And for a game like Pokemon with thousands of translated text, items, moves, and unique names, both human and Pokemon alike, that is seldom a direct translation, but still has to make sense in the overall design or implication, isn’t an easy task. And since so much of the game was spoiled to non-Japanese speaking fans because of this and their licensed content being illicitly distributed, or just meticulously reviewed before it even had the chance to reach other territories. They not only had to protect their rights but add to the overall enjoyment, mystique, and connectivity of such a widely popular and charismatic game. All this time, money, resources, and effort to prevent this to happen, just to have a store owner illegally break the street date to sell a friend a copy before it’s even registered in the system, and then subsequently distribute that content they worked so hard to protect, carelessly all over the internet because they couldn’t wait 2 more weeks like millions of people around the world is asinine.

      • Marcus Navarro

It’s not asinine. It’s being spoiled. Alas, I completely agree with your wall of text!

  • Mario

Wow! Nintendo is really angry at this guy!

  • Wiiluigi

Woah. Now that’s power. Personally the kid is stupid for posting pics. If he would’ve kept the game to himself then he would’ve been good. How can nintendo reclaim a game though? I bought it and it’s mine. I mean If I posted pictures and they asked me to stop I would have but to return something I purchased!?! Negative. I understand he was trying to save face with his friend but what if it was a mistake like target did with the wind waker and released it early? Then what?

    • Thomas Vienna

Did he actually purchase it, though? And beside, it’s Nintendo’s copyrighted property, so if something of theirs gets sold without their permission, they have every right to claim it.

EDIT: Actually, Even if he did pay for the game, there’s no way that money’s going to Nintendo. You’d think Nintendo would find out if they received a $20 or something income statement for Pokémon X and Y a month before release.

      • Wiiluigi

Now that I think about it, you are right. Because how was it sold if it wasn’t in the system before release day (I’m guessing here). Thinking about it if it was one copy that was given sold or even stolen it may have not been rung out. So they (Nintendo) have every right to claim their property. Or is it the stores? Since they have to purchase these units from nintendo before receiving them. We need more details to unravel the truth behind this mystery. Lol.

    • Chris Jones

Basically he gave it back to stop his friend from facing repurcussions wether that helped or not who knows, but if a store sells games before release date there can be a comeback to them from the publisher so I am guessing Ninty told him if he gave the game back nothing else would happen so his friend would be safe

      • Wiiluigi

Let’s hope everyone learned their lessons here. Do the right thing from now on.

  • Jack5221

Iwata and Reggie always look so happy, its hard to imagine them angry. Lol.

    • Ducked

I can see Reggie being in a bad mood lol

  • alex toschi

Did anyone see the supposed leaked final evolutions?? Are they real or fake because I saw them…

    • The True Gamer

There real. I honestly don’t enjoy them except for delphox, but that’s just me.

      • alex toschi

that’s really disappointing. I thought they looked like they were almost in a beta stage, especially greninja.. he just looks like he is made of 3d shapes.

        • The True Gamer

I just hope I grow to like them more, otherwise I’m going with mainly kanto starters this generation

          • alex toschi

i still am going to love this game it looks amazing, and I’m even still chosing froakie as my starter. I’ll just pair him with Mega Charizard X. but I am a but skeptical because Gamefreak hasn’t denied or confirmed the final evolutions, and delphox isn’t seen with a stick. Why would they just throw that design out the door?

          • The True Gamer

Yeah. The stick seemed like it could be a staff or wand. It’s strange why the second evolution has it, and it just disappears. I’m hoping their fake, but I really doubt that if they werent real than nobody would have images of the real starters.

          • alex toschi

I think they may be early screenshots from concept evolutions. or just really well made fake photos.

          • The True Gamer

            I hope

          • Andrew Chambers

I’m sure that they also have mega evolutions.

          • The True Gamer

I heard somewhere that game freak didn’t want to put mega evolutions on 6th gen pokemon.

      • Elvis Hayes

there not real because the website boards.4chan.org/vp/ latest post said all the leaked pokemon including the final starter forms are fake including the z legendary pokemon and they say there fake copies and testing them not to preorder of buy the games and post them too

  • Jacob T. Plante

Is it just me or does Nintendo seem to be getting much more assertive/confident lately? :O

    • LopsidedPasta

      SpongeBob: “Beep Beep!”
      Plankton: “Not INSERTIVE! ASSERTIVE!”

  • xXbox4EverXx

Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo, worried about everything.

    • Your username says it all to be honest.

      • DarkLegacy

Xbox fanboy and 3 downvotes. seems like I call this a fail

        • xXbox4EverXx

so did nintendo on the pokemon leak

          • DarkLegacy

            Seems like you hate Nintendo

  • Luca Invernizzi

I like spoilers like the next guy, but I’m totally with Nintendo, here: the game is gonna be out in like 10 days, why should you post every single new pokemon?

  • Madmagican

Damn, Nintendo doesn’t fuck around when it comes to Pokemon
so much for getting more Worldwide release date in the future

  • MujuraNoKamen

I’m with Nintendo here. They have right to be pissed – much like Rockstar’s annoyance when people got GTA5 4 days early despite explicitly giving the order to make sure everyone got it on release day. This is one of the most anticipated games of the year and surely one of the best and to have people post spoilers online ruining it for people who’d like the surprise is unfair, especially when they gave X&Y a global release partly to make sure no one had spoiler.
Fair enough that they guy got the game early, if I could get it from a retailer/delivery guy, anyone with early access to a copy I would get it, but posting spoilers when there’s an embargo on it is thoughtless, and now the supplier apparently faces being fired.

EDIT: I guess if people don’t want spoilers then they shouldn’t look online for them but details are given away by comments everywhere online, I saw a review online and in the comments someone posted a picture – of what I won’t say I think it was, I only caught a glimpse but I can guess what it was.

  • Michael Jurado

so gamefreaks and nintendo work hard to release a pokemon game to everyone at the same time then someone goes and ruins it by leaking stuff about it … see people that’s why we can’t have nice things >_<

  • Elvis Hayes

well theres still more people still leaking
pictures of pokemon x and y regardless
of the person who did this
