When it comes to pushing graphics technology, Nintendo hasn’t been at the forefront of that battle since the GameCube 15 years ago.

And they’re not jumping on the 4K and VR bandwagon anytime soon either.

In fact, Nintendo of France boss Philippe Lavoué, 4K is a “waste of time” for Nintendo.

Not only that, he believes that if Nintendo starts competing with Microsoft and Sony on 4K, VR, and graphics tech, they’re “bound to die”.

“As far as 4K is concerned, is it useful to invest in a technology that has not been adopted by the majority? Where are 4K TVs now? Is it a good idea to invest in a technology before consumers do?” Lavoué told French newspaper Les Numériques.

His comment is quite surprising, and not that informed: the reason consumers invest in a new technology like 4K is because companies out there are leading the way and investing in 4K content.

Does Nintendo want everyone else to innovate on the graphics front, and then they’ll hop on the bandwagon when all the hard work has been done?

Thanks for the tip, Magnus!
