Last night a rumor from Japanese magazine Nikkei said Nintendo was looking into creating “mini-games” for the mobile market. This sparked a huge debate online, thanks to Kotaku’s article. This morning Nintendo has actually addressed the rumor, stating it’s not true. Here’s the full statement.

“Nikkei’s article contains information previously stated by Mr Iwata during past press conferences, including statements which relate to Nintendo’s willingness to make use of smart devices to promote our products.

However during such past announcements Mr Iwata has also stated that Nintendo’s intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer minigames on smartphone devices. “

For those of you who hoped this was true and that you’d be able to play Mario games on mobile devices that aren’t created by Nintendo, looks like you’re going to wait a bit longer. While the Wii U may not be doing fantastically compared to the new consoles, Nintendo as a company is still sitting in a better financial position than Sony.

“…Nintendo as a company is still sitting in a better financial position than Sony…” (and Microsoft)…
regardless, Nintendo seriously has to get their heads out of their asses and out of the 90’s… as a PS3 guy (with a PS4) who bought a Wii U for my kids this past year and has since fallen in love with it…. I really want the company to turn it around, but it is extremely hard to believe in management when they seem so genuinely clueless.

    • Shota

wii u must be sold well !!!!

    • D.M.T

I don’t think Nintendo is clueless, a clueless company wouldn’t be so successful. I just think Nintendo is stubborn, they want to do things their way.

      • TCar

They also don’t make the games that people seem to want, bloody, gory shooters. Nintendo makes games that has violence but in a way that still separates real from fake. This is what pisses off the masses. Their system puts out great graphics, great sound, great games; it lacks the new idea of Mature.

Edit: This is not what I feel about Nintendo, rather an idea of what I think others feel about Nintendo. I think Nintendo does an excellent job of creating compelling stories and entertaining gaming experiences without the need for shock value that the other systems yearn for.

        • RichM

No one is going to go shoot up a high school because they played too much SM3DW. They might chase people around in a cat costume though. Lol!

          • TCar

That would be a pretty funny sight!

          • Shy Guy

You just wait till I find a flower that let’s me shoot fireballs…..

        • D.M.T

You’re wrong. Nintendo makes the games that people want or else why would they beg for Nintendo games on smartphones and other systems? And no Nintendo doesn’t need to make bloody gory shooters. Why? Because we don’t need 3 consoles that offer you the same type of games. We need at least 1 console that is different and Wii U is different from the rest. The “new idea of mature” sucks donkey cock and is the reason why the gaming industry is getting worse and worse every generation.

          • TCar

Just to be clear, I support Nintendo and not the other two systems. Not as a fanboy but as a person that prefers Nintendo’s idea of entertainment over the others. I hate the direction that the “hardcore” gamer is taking gaming and it makes me distant myself even more from the other consoles. Nintendo has always, and will always, make truly entertaining games without the need for shock value. My original comment is not my way of thought, it is the thought process of most people that own the other two systems.

          • LarryOfPompeii

I’m totally into having thoughtful, spot-on discourse peppered with cries of “donkey cock”. Can’t get that on GoNintendo! Interesting place….

        • Shy Guy

Listening to the Ramone’s Beat on the Brat while clubbing zombies to death with a cricket bat is pretty gory, and fun!

      • MujuraNoKamen

They are successful company but they’re really stumbling at the moment. Even if 3DS is doing amazingly well, the slow Wii U sales are eating into all that cash and they’re going to make a loss again this year. I know we’re yet to see the best from Wii U but this is really the main issue we’re waiting too long for things to happen. The release schedule is patchy, we were waiting ages for great games that suffered heavy delays and people still odn’t know it exists (the main problem) only recently have Nintendo admitted they’re advertising is dire despite a year of everyone telling them and there’s still nothing happening.
I’m anxiously awaiting the next Nintendo Direct if they don’t give us some good news (new games, solid release schedule) then they wont have much success for a while.

    • Daniel Carvalho

It’s weird they’re like this. They have never been so horrible at advertising and making games that make use of the unique features of their main consoles.

Trying to get 3DS owners by showing them a similar experience they have on their portables (Super Mario 3D World = Super Mario 3D Land/Donkey Kong Country Returns = Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze/ Mario Kart 7 = Mario Kart 8) instead of making games that make full use of the Gamepad, the home console’s main feature?! What the hell were they thinking? Why would anyone spend US$300 on an experience they can have with a machine they already own?

I don’t know what happened, but they were not this dumb during the Wii time. They believe people already know what the Wii U is, and think they are not buying it because they don’t understand the potential of the gamepad, and that’s why they want to bring gamers to the console by showing similar experiences. But we all know the problem is that people don’t know what the Wii U is! Why can’t they see that?

Anyway, Nintendo rarely repeats mistakes, so we might see a way better marketing strategy this year, allied with more quality games.

    • TCar

Send the note to the 3rd parties that aren’t innovative enough to create games for Nintendo’s hardware. Nintendo has release a great system that does what it is suppose to and have offered some great games. Nintendo doesn’t make the blood and gore games that the other systems live upon. However, neither does Sony or MS, it is all of the 3rd part developers that do that! The devs are just getting more and more cheap in regards to how many systems they support.

      • Marcus Larsson

I havent seen Nintendo put much use of the second screen in their games either so don’t blame the third party’s. ZombieU was a good example that lacked other stuff.
Wish it would evolve anytime now

        • TCar

Being able to play their games on the Gamepad is enough for me. But I have like how it has been used so far with the games that I have played. Without the 3rd party getting involved, you probably won’t see a lot of the things that could be done getting done. Nintendo will need to create new franchises at this point to really show off its potential. Guess we will see what happens.

    • MujuraNoKamen

I completely agree, I love Wii U and I’m a big Nintendo fan but they’re making it really hard to love them because of how damn stupid they’re being. Their advertising is a disgrace and is 90% to blame for the situation and despite 12 months of us telling them where they’ve gone wrong they’ve only just admitted that they screwed up and there’s nothing to show for it.

It’s no secret that after 3DS went through the rough patch EAD pulled out all stops to get great games out to rectify the situation as Nintendo released it without many games and expected it to sell just because. And now we’re in the same boat with Wii U, they should have learned from 3DS not to expect the best and make sure they have enough games for the console, how did they not see this coming? 3DS proved that a turn around isn’t impossible even in dire situations but over year in we’re still waiting for some truly good news and unlike 3DS, Wii U has some competition and they ain’t fucking around.

    • Softballumpire

the fact you but wii u for kids really show how clueless you are. great you bought it but Nintendo is not stuck in 90’s and i haven’t seen much updates from last gen on sony or ms consoles other than update hardware and some tweaking on controllers

  • BIG Franky

“…Nintendo as a company is still sitting in a better financial position than Sony…” (and Microsoft)… regardless:
Nintendo has to get their heads out of their asses and out of the 90’s… they need to better read the market and follow it…. they are trying to lead it from behind and are failing miserably. as a PS3 gamer (who also owns a PS4) who bought a Wii U this past year for my kids, I have since fallen in love with the console (shockingly)…. so I desperately want the company to turn things around…but its hard to believe they will… upper management seems so genuinely clueless and bull-headed… I hope they prove me wrong.

    • I think they’re actively looking at the competition now instead of ignoring them. A survey popped up on Club Nintendo for some users asking if they owned additional consoles and if so, what features they liked about them that the Wii U didn’t have.

      • blindtiger

going to find that survey now!

*cant find it… when will they integrate club nintendo and eshop?!?!

      • RyuNoHadouken

oh, i need to find that survey now!! i have a laundry list!!

      • I took that survey and as a person that plays on multiple platforms there are many things Nintendo has to do to get with the times but also keep their core gaming values as a top priority. It does not necessarily mean a console with more cores or ram or higher specs either. They need to up their marketing and inform people what the console is all about. Nintendo can put themselves in a position where they are once again the primary household console if they showcase that the console can play the greatest Nintendo games from past present and future and also great games from 3rd parties and indie developers.

They focus on the family which is not bad but this still makes people think they are a “Kiddie” console where they need to make people realize that this is is a console for everybody no matter how you game or what you like to play.

      • Shy Guy

I hope other people recommended a monthly subscription model for the Virtual Console instead of purchasing individual games.

  • D.M.T

Why do people want Nintendo games on Smartphones? Stop being cheap and buy a 3DS or Wii U if you want to play Nintendo games!!! People who beg for Nintendo games on non-Nintendo systems make me sick. Why don’t you ask for Sony exclusives on Smartphones you fucking idiots.

    • Daniel Carvalho

The problem isn’t that playing Nintendo games makes them “kiddy gamers”, but owning a Nintendo console does. So, if they play Nintendo games on a smartphone or on Sony consoles, they’re hardcore gamers, but if they play it on Nintendo consoles, they’ll be seen as “kiddies” b their friends. That’s the logic behind their judgment.

      • D.M.T

That’s a logic that doesn’t make sense at all. Nintendo systems get all kinds of games. I always buy rated M games on Nintendo consoles. My best friend is a Playstation-only gamer and he doesn’t think I’m “kiddie” because I own a Wii U. Those people need to realize that their so called “friends” aren’t true friends. A true friend will accept you for who you are.

        • Gameonfool

Exactly, if you have friends like that then time to make new ones.

      • McBlink

I’m 40 and have been gaming on Nintendo hardware since NES. Society can GTFO.

        • Jose David Castro Chacon

          Thats how a real men speaks…. NES – SNES .- N64 – GC – Wii and Wii U enough said 😉

        • tronic307

That’s great for us nostalgia buffs, but I wonder if kids still think Nintendo is cool. Dudebroism seems to be spreading to younger ages as time goes on.

    • Lil J Moore

This man. This. I’m tiring of hearing comments like this. ” I’ll buy a Nintendo console if they lower the price” or “I’ll buy Nintendo games if they come to Sony or Ms” and My favorite “I’m gonna wait until the price drops but buy a sony or MS game system at double the price”.

People if you want to play Nintendo games buy a Nintendo console. Simple

    • Spookoyo

      I want a Nintenphone instead

    • Will W

I was assuming the “Mini-games” would be G&W games, or Mario Bros….
Now, if The Nintendo Direct was more prevalent… that might make a difference.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Because a Mario game on a mobile woud cost around 3$ and not 50$. Nintendo would be forced too price their games to what they acually are worth.

Yess U said it bro just like that fucking dammm idiots Get a wii U people!

    • Marcus Larsson

Actually Sony did sell a ps-phone with the psone-classics but it didnt sell to well 🙂

    • tronic307

Yeah man, free touch minigames that act as a gateway to the Nintendo ecosystem, reaching BILLIONS, is like THE single dumbest idea in history!!!

      • D.M.T

Your sarcastic comment isn’t funny in the slightest. Nintendo games on smartphone is not a good idea and i dont care if you don’t agree.

        • tronic307

Okay, you can have your Nintendo-free smartphone if that’s what you really want. No, don’t even install the Miiverse app when that comes out. Y’know, do your part for Nintendo and all?

Because we all remember the “wonderful” job Capcom did with releasing Mega Man X on mobile devices. Such excellent quality. I’ll never ever ever go back to playing it on any other platform….
Dumbasses don’t know there is no real money in mobile gaming unless you whore out micro transactions. Why do you think we keep seeing games like Angry Birds showing up on consoles? Because there is more money in console gaming/handheld gaming than mobile. That’s where the real gamers are.
That would be assed-backwards. Not to mention a waste of money and time. They NEED to make the Wii U more appealing by releasing a killer app that shows the gamepad’s untapped potential,create/buy more studios to make up the lack of third party games and here’s a crazy thought….ACTUALLY ADVERTISE THE DAMN THING!

  • Shota

mobile market is a big market true. but how will it help nintendo in terms of sales with their hardware.

  • Maxime Lemieux

Just saying, I remember the days when Nintendo did flash minigames, played a bunch of wario ware inc online and mario party 4 and would do the same if they released such minigames on smartphones 😀

  • CaesarGood

why would they want to do that? they cant even get the wii u right…

    • uPadWatcher

Nintendo will get the Wii U right. Just you wait when they deliver their games starting next month.

      • CaesarGood

Im sure they will, I will be getting DK Tropic Freeze and maybe Mario Kart afte tat idk wht to expect…

    • TCar

Can you point out whats wrong with it? Actually, first, do you own the system? So far, they have done everything right in my household!

      • CaesarGood

I certainly do own a wii u.. And as far as getting it right I’m talking about how they let games slip away that we should have on our system like nba2k14 so I have to settle for nba2k13, and they could have done a whole lot more to make the system more enjoyable but they are still 5 years behind time…

        • TCar

There are a lot of games that could be on the WiiU but that isn’t up to Nintendo. It is up to the developer who they choose to put their games on. The install base for sports games is really low on Nintendo systems. I for one can’t stand the sports games. They are the same game over and over and over with nothing new, except details in the graphics. The system as it is right now is very enjoyable but that is left to opinion. I wonder what else is needed to have a great gaming experience that doesn’t just mimic what the other two systems may or may not have? I wonder also, if every game is available on every system, why have three consoles? Why not just PC and a singular home console?

  • wober2

I am more excited about rumors that they might be combining their handhelds and consoles… Even if it is not “fusion” the crazy overpowered nintendo console. I like the idea of a mobile wiiu tablet or a 3ds controller for wiiu that is more ergonomic.

  • Clipo

This is funny, people beg for Nintendo on smarthphone, and, do you have heared about the port of Tales of Phantasy to IOS, for example?, awful port with microtransaction and bad controls. I prefer nintendo away from the smarthphone for the moment.

    • C4

ToP fits perfectly on mobile devices the way it is. Hopefully Namco makes some money with it 🙂

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

This was obvious…I think people just ignored or forgot about what Nintendo stated before about not making smartphone games.

  • Sam

And people say Nintendo has no games…

    • That guy who hates Spike

I think the Nintendo fanbase have finally cracked, and have gone crazy over dealing with the same trolls
      You’re a fine example.

      • Guest
        • That guy who hates Spike

No. I love Nintendo. You can see in my posts that I enjoy Nintendo. But not blindly. I just hate these overpassionate fanboys, who think they have the right to call people idiots, and then later bash the Vita, and the Mobile industry.
I liked it so much more 1 year ago, when the Nintendo Fanboys had legitimate debates, spoke in paragraphs of why their system is better and would accept the other person’s debates with “I understand”
Now they’re sick of dealing with these arguments and only have the effort to say “Shut up” nowadays.

    • Guest

Nintendo Co., Ltd DOES NOT need more SHEEP like you

  • Sheiky Baby

I just hope these changed are heavily implemented on the Wii U. I want to see Nintendo take advantage of the console’s true potential. New OS, and added features we’ve been asking for a while would be nice.

  • Frankie

Do people even read news articles? Nikkei said Nintendo will be promoting their games on smartphones, not making minigames.

  • Heaven on Earth

Great news its funny how critics want Nintendo to go out of business yet they want nintendo 1st party games on other platforms keep supporting the wii u.

  • Skelterz

I for one am extremely happy with this news i fucking hate smartphone games there the bane of the industry, however i do agree that something has to change internally for nintendo to get over hump, but i’m a strong believer in what everyone including myself has been saying, when AAA games come out SSB MK8 hardware will start selling my guesses are because of all the bad press nintendo have had to deal with us wii u owners are going to have a really good year this year to make up for the shitstorm they created so im really hopeful and i think you guys should be to.

    • RichM

Amen. Smartphone games are crap…with the exception of a few which I pay for (Final Fantasy III and IV). Everyone has their finger on the trigger when it comes to crapping on Nintendo. It’s sad that crappy bloggers looking for advertising dollars will put out anything to make money, even if it’s a lie and ruins a companies image. Is the Wii U not selling well? Yes. Is it going to fail? No. It may be the biggest flop in Nintendo’s history, but that does not mean it’s a bad console. Sure I like an occasional FPS…for about an hour. MS and PS have nothing to offer other than power. Their top games are not even first party. Even though I believe things will get better, the console will never be what the industry defines as a success. The games will come, the console will be awesome…and so many people will miss out on great gaming experiences because of these types of stupid misleading reports.

      • Skelterz

damn straight they should round up all the app junkie’s in a room put mario 3d world on the screen chuck out a few wii motes and tablet and see within one hour those people will be like wtf were we doing before apps suck

  • RichM

The sad thing is that NO ONE will report that it’s bogus other than Wii U Daily. Every blogger and news agency puts crap about Nintendo out on their sites. I swear Nintendo should sue for defamation! Nintendo is having to spend so much time dealing with all this negative BS that they can’t focus on what they do best…make amazing games. Everyone has a suggestion of what Nintendo should do, but quickly forget that this is the company that brought video game consoles mainstream and into our homes. You would think the video game reporters/bloggers would have it in their best interest to build up the industry so they can have a job. But, I guess they’d rather post click bait to bring in advertising dollars. And right now, the easiest way to do that is to crap on Nintendo.

Exactly they have a crap ton of money in the bank. They don’t need to do this. They are not going to turn into sega because if you all remember sega kept pulling shit on and off and lost the trust of the costumers.

Also it would be a horrible idea for them to do this because then people will think that Nintendo has gone 3rd party. But let’s hope that if Sony goes down that Nintendo gets them is they can.

  • SuperSonicBrawler

  • Skelterz

Do you want to know the truth about mobile games, There crafted for brainless lady gaga/ taylor swift fans and they easily take control of the masses just like any other uninspired money grabbing technique company’s use to manipulate cabbages that wander the world waiting for the next fad to sweep them into a situation where they ”fit in” with the crowd, app companies are modern day sheep herders and the people that play them are the sheep….and virgins.

  • audi lover

More like Nintendo to release Nintendo phone and crush apple haha

    • Gotallofthem

Now that would be an idea, or something like that fake Fusion, rumor, a system thats your portable gaming system, and mobile phone, and home console.

  • Jonathan George Anaya

Nintendo will be fine with or without smartphone integration.

Playstation Deathclock: 23 months, 19 days, 12 hours

    • Shy Guy

The irony of it is that the primary product line keeping Sony afloat at the moment (Playstation) came about after a falling out with Nintendo over the creation of a disc drive addon for the Super Nintendo.

      • lonewolf

Playstation is not really primary product for sony they have phones TV’s video cameras photocameras bluray dvds memory cards usb sticks sound systems sound systems for cars and what not else the PlayStation just happened and its here but even without it Sony would have been the company that are today.

        • Shy Guy

Macroaxis calculates a 79% chance of Sony going bankrupt within two years, the company that was known for such iconic consumer electronics as the Walkman has been unable to keep pace with a rapidly changing market and has lost out to companies like Samsung and Apple.

You are right about Sony still making all sorts of electronics besides the Playstation, problem is the sales just aren’t there, the innovation isn’t there, and companies like Samsung and others produce products which are generally considered of a better quality and much better value than most of Sony’s offerings.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

You do have your right to dream about it. ;p

    • Brandon

Your fooling your self nintendo fanboy. Playstation is the best selling console brand and is not going anywhere. Make that a wii u deathclock if anything.

  • Andrew Baines

Nintendo wont put there games on the smartphones ..right now can I say iam sick of this doom and gloom towards Nintendo so I will say this to u sony and xbox fans out there Nintendo as been here a lot longer than sony/ms secondly Nintendo has more pros than cons and sony/ms has more cons than pros sorry did I hit a nerve with ms fans with there Xboxes oh oh dose the red ring of death mean anything but lets look at the bigger picture sony/ms rely on AAA GAMES TO SELL THERE CONSOULS NINTENDO DONT THAT WHY WE AS NINTENDO FANS ARE STILL HERE

  • Rick Valenta

If they start making smart phone games, they might as well throw the 3DS in the river. So no they won’t be doing that. Now if they made a smart phone with 3DS games exclusive to it…..

    • Daniel Gonzalez

I don’t see it happening. As long as their handhelds are profitable, they’ll stick with it. Mobile gaming to me is limited. Touch controls just don’t work with most games.

      • Enumerating Wishes

Though irrelevant I just wanted to say I see your posts down voted a lot as if someone is tracking you just to down vote it.

With relevancy I do agree with you. Going to the mobile market can be seen as a sign of weakness too.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, there’s a small handful that can’t stand me and most likely stalk my comments just to downvote it. They waste their time in doing so.

It may show weakness, especially to those who hate Nintendo already. While the mobile market does have it’s perks, it’s still a limited market considering most games on iOS and Android imo are junk. Maybe a few I’ve seen that are actually worth my time. They do have android gaming devices(which those who have one usually use them for emulation) that look similar to a Vita which I do own, but they are hard to find in stores.

I feel the mobile market one day will grow in popularity when better devices are made for dedicated gaming, but right now as is, it’s not going to be the future anytime soon.

    • Gotallofthem

A 3DS that can make and receive calls and texts, now that may be an idea, then you don’t have to here people complaining about carrying 2 items.

      • Rick Valenta

There is a market for Nintendo in the mobile world. They just need to figure out what works best for them and do it.

  • haris zeekrya
  • MujuraNoKamen

Why should they make games for Smartphones? they can make more from consoles and do much more with them, wishful thinking haters.

  • snowsensei

I’d really love a Wii Fit U app to track food/water intake throughout the day and view my steps from day to day without having to look at it on the TV. The game itself could still be the central hub where you sync everything, do your body tests and play the games to help keep you active, but an app would be a great counterpart. I also have the FitBit Zip and its mobile app is about the only thing about it that’s better than the Fit Meter (actually, the size of the FitBit is better too), but it makes it a lot more convenient to use.

  • Aleks

Just when i think Nintendo makes a positive adaption to their buisness model, to reach millions more people, they dash those hopes as well. Is Iwata working for the competition or what!? News please! On how you AREN’T going to roll over and die, Nintendo.

    • Gotallofthem

You were hoping they would make a positive adaptation by bringing their stuff to mobile? Why, were you finally going to be able to play Nintendo games? Ummm why not just buy their hardware instead of just hating for the sake of hating?

      • Aleks

No, just thought the original story of them having promotional MINI games on smartphones just to get people to buy their real systems. Thought it was a positive way to promote themselves. They should NOT put any games on other systems, including smartphones. Didnt really think it was true actually. What single screen minigame could possibly promote either Nintendo two screen system.

  • LJay

    Thank fuck!
    Mr Iwata-bro fist!

  • That guy who hates Spike

Key word: Minigames. Not games, minigames.

  • Nintendo Dragon

Thank God I wouldnot buy any Nintendo games on a smartphone I hate mobile games. They bore me way to fast. On top of that Nintendo is staying true to their ways so I admire them as a company for that!

  • CaesarGood

…how about mini games or items or wallpapers relevant to the game that u have on wii menu or in the wii plaza where they are always standing… Something that u have to achieve in order to unlock it, that would be a real accomplishment both ways…

  • CaesarGood

By minigames on the smartphone I would suppose something like what NBA2K13 did with the smartphones and the vc points, how everything ties in…

  • GameBoy1979

An interesting thought to ponder….Nintendo quickly denied this rumor, but has yet to confirm or deny the “fusion” rumor, only stating that they do not comment on such topics. Does this mean there may be a morsel of truth to the rumor?

    • FutureFox

Creating a new console? Sure. A console with those specs? Pffft…Hell no.

      • GameBoy1979

Sadly, you are more than likely correct. I wish JUST once that Ninty would pull a “magic rabbit” out there hat & surprise the gaming community, as well as the rest of the world, with not only their awesome games, but a superior console to enjoy said games.

  • Gotallofthem

Well it doesn’t appear that X1 is doing so great, and MS as a whole seems to be doing bad, with reports stating that people are moving from PC/Laptops to Tablets, and reports stating that Windows will be kicked out the operating system business soon due to Andriod etc. And Steam trying to push windows out of gaming.

Perhaps its time that Nintendo and MS unite to form an all new Console, the Wii-One? (We-Won)

Just saying, heck they wanted to do business with Sony before.

  • Rinslowe

Of course. Would’ve been a bum deal for their great IP’s IMO.

  • I just want a 3DS that I can shove a SIM card into and get calls/texting/data through said SIM card. I see that as the next logical step for 3DS. But that’s just me XD

    • Rinslowe

Something tells me Mobile Nintendo was your love child?
Well, can’t have all brilliant ideas all the time…

      • XD I had nothing to do with that, but think about it!

        • Rinslowe

          MMmm…. Ahhhh…. Still undecided on that one…

          • It wasnt me! I swear ;P

          • Rinslowe

Oh OK. Lol I believe you!
I was referring more to whether I like the mobile idea or not…. Yeah I dunno. Guess I would have to see it, play it and really understand it before passing judgment on it.

          • I’m tellin ya. It’s just a normal 3DS. The only difference is that you can stick a SIM card in it and make calls/texts. What is bad about this? XD 3DS power, library, and visuals, coupled with the ability to call and text your friends. Heck, if you have a data plan, you could play games on wifi where ever you go!

There’s so many old game boy games that people aren’t playing, and should be sold digital, why have so many games, but not play it. I’m sure Nintendo have more games than Sony and Xbox combined. Nintendo should sell game boy games with HD graphic. What else do you do with old games that aren’t being used?

That’s what the eShop is for. Why cannibalize your own ecosystem?

  • Proud Borracho Latino

Hell yeah!! For Nintendo not giving into other people’s nonsense of moving their games to mobile platforms! If it really was that profitable then more companies would have been doing long before now!

    Hello peeps!
Here ya go, Accurate sales data until 31st of December – look at it for yourself instead of watching various news publications influence public opinion by presenting it as ridiculous percentages, lifting only specific data to prove a point and quoting anonymous sources that complain how Nintendo did not teach them how to program a video game.

    • FutureFox

      Good work Arthur!

      The Focus
Guess we’ll see if Wii U sales can just make their 2.8M target. Overall seems to be selling less than last year but not by terribly much. Noticed a huge drop (almost exactly half) in other regions on page 7 of the link.

      The Interesting
Software titles went way up despite falling hardware sales.

      The Funny
Looking at those ad dollars spent. Its laughable. The barely spent more this year.

      The Verdict
I think Nintendo is pretty ok with where they stand. I mean the lack of advertising to me says their definitely holding out on something. I think this year we’ll see a noticeable increase in hardware by year’s end. There should (or at least better be) compelling SW to justify a hardware purchase. After that its the snowball effect.

For further reference, I point you to their updated sales data page:

It seems Wii U has currently achieved a 5.86 million lifetime sale count, while 3DS has 42,47 million so far.

Before comparing it to all other nintendo platforms, note that these are lifetime sales (until the 31st of December) – and the lifetimes of 3DS and Wii U aren’t over yet.

  • Good.

  • Ben bromilow

I’m 15 and I still play on my gc and 64 and still enjoy it, it’s a break from the next gen consoles. E.g I have the Xbox one and yes it’s brilliant and all the good things but nintendos are still superior in my eyes to how they were made and still are made
