Early last year we reported that Nintendo would be merging its device development teams, which have traditionally been separate entities. The team behind console development and the team behind handheld development would finally become one team, and Nintendo needed a new building in order to make this happen. It’s been in construction for some time now, but Kotaku recently revealed what it looks like on the outside.

It’s very similar to Nintendo’s Kyoto headquarters building, though the windows are much more striking in this new development studio. Additionally, the oval surrounding the word Nintendo makes a return on all the logos of the building, while the word Nintendo is just blazoned on the headquarters. This new building is where all future console and handheld development will happen, so you’re looking at the future home of whatever Nintendo decides to produce next.

Building looks great, but from what i have understood Nintendo’s next gen system will be a hybrid of there handheld and console systems, so there will only be one system next gen.

I think this looks like a good design for a next gen controller.

    • wober2

Nice, looks like a vita combined with the classic controller. Damn though start and select are so far away.

      • jjbredesen

Yeah that could be a problem, but it can be changed.

    • Thomas Vienna

Yeah, it looks too much like Playstation to me, but I like how you’re thinking!

    • RennanNT

For what I understood of the fusion rumor, they will work together, but won’t be the same.

Imagine if you could use the 3DS as gamepad, and use the Wii U to play 3DS games on the TV. That would make the Wii U $200~150 without selling at loss, because people wouldn’t need to buy a controller. And both experience could be extended if done right…

      • jjbredesen

Yeah i can see something like that happen, i have no clue what to espect next gen, but i am excited to find out!

Hoping it looks something like this:

        • DC777

That is a pretty cool design.

        • Dรกibhรญ wotshissurname

It’s cool, but 2 important things:
          1. The Home button should be at the bottom of the screen, otherwise it doesn’t make sense.
          2. I’d prefer the console to be much thinner than that if it’s going to fit under my TV.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah, that would make moe sense, but i can’t be bothered to edit it now ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Magnus Eriksson

Thats how the Wii U pad should have looked. Its amazing.

      • jjbredesen

Yup, i found in online and i think it would feel really comfartable, does not matter if the screen is only 3-4 inches if they made it HD, i think it would be great, and the anonlog triggers must return!

        • Wooopigsooie

I’m still pretty ticked off that Xbone gets these awesome rumble triggers while Wii U’s aren’t even anologed.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah, since Gamecube had it, i felt like it was a nobrainer that Wii U would have it, so when i found it i was furious.

    • jjbredesen

Can’t seem to view peoples replies…

    • BIG Franky

the thing is, the control stick has to be above the control pad since it is higher… other than that I love it…

    • WiiUPS4

      Hmmmm That might work

    • lonewolf

It looks something like what Sony would do next the Same uninspired design

      • jjbredesen

Yeah, but it looks really comfortable, and keeps the screen, and since its smaller they can make it HD, and have a higher pixel density without it costing to much.

    • The Clockwork Being

There better be analog triggers on there!

      • jjbredesen

Yup, thats the most important future.

    • DragonSilths

There will be a Home Console and Handheld next gen, they will both just have the same architecture.

  • wober2

Looks cool in an almost retro way… Like it is a take on corporate 80’s architecture. This seems perfect for the nintendo brand.

  • Adecentboy777

If they do everything the same way with the next home console hardware like with the Wii U (meaning 3rd party support, hardware features, marketing, first party games – just almoust everything went wrong) then it can stay between this walls.

  • Snake Eater

That is a nice looking building

  • all these windows, it seems that is energy efficient.

  • Sycamore

    Very ominous clouds.

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

The architecture is a bit simple, just a square with no ambition. The clouds are nice tho. Anyway, what is important is what’s going on inside ๐Ÿ˜€

  • SP-937-215

Boring. It should be more like… a giant mechanoid Bowser that breathes fire into the air every time Miyamoto gets a new idea.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Every tenth year?

    • jjbredesen
      • SP-937-215

I thought I’d splashed coffee on my monitor, but it’s only some gamer goo on the NES cartridge flapper thingy. That’s friggin gross. And who’s cramming 251 memory cards in so hard that they break the Gamecube’s front bezel? These poor consoles!

        • HungryMetroid
          • jjbredesen

But it has a dust particle on it! If you use a microsope you can see it, 6543 pixel to the left, row 743823 ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • HungryMetroid

I was hoping no one would notice that lol

          • SP-937-215

And I can still sense the handle on the back of the Gamecube. That thing still creeps me out.

  • buz

hmmm now all i need to do is hack into there camera system and see what there making ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Magnus Eriksson

The building looks ok I guess. But something like this would have been much more symbolic:

    • jjbredesen

Just testing if i can reply, because i can’t view anyones reply to my post above…

      • SP-937-215

Disqus is so buggy. I keep getting a “forbidden” error when I click on notifications.

        • jjbredesen

Yeah, i get that to but i think thats WUD’s server?

You don’t have permission to access /wp-content/cache/page_enhanced/ on this server.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The Web server (running the Web Site) encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request by the client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) for access to the requested URL.

This is a ‘catch-all’ error generated by the Web server. Basically something has gone wrong, but the server can not be more specific about the error condition in its response to the client. In addition to the 500 error notified back to the client, the Web server should generate some kind of internal error log which gives more details of what went wrong. It is up to the operators of the Web server site to locate and analyse these logs.

Could be disqus that causes the error, but i think they should check there servers error log just incase.

  • uPadWatcher

    The Two Towers of Nintendo!

  • Dark-Link73

It looks just like a GCN from the side vent perspective.

  • Donaald

Here’s hoping this will fasten the development of first party games.

    • jjbredesen

It could because next gen they will only have 1 system to focus on, witch is exstremly smart, because imagine how great Wii U would have done if it had the whole of 3DS’s library, in HD!

      • DragonSilths

There will be 2 systems next gen, just with the same architecture.

      • Donaald

Fusion is a rumor so far, so who knows

        • jjbredesen

After doing some research i found that Iwata has said they want to merge the systems in the same platform like IOS and Android, think it was under the investors breifing of Q3 2013.

  • Magnus Eriksson

      • Wooopigsooie

I just had the random thought that this NEEDED to be a multiplayer stage in the next Starfox game. A man can dream right?

        • jjbredesen

Now that would be awsome, i am one of the few that loved Assults multiplayer, if they could make an assult style game with a better story, better voice acting and Mass Effect style 3rd person ground controlls, with a great cover system etc, and make the already perfect arwing even better with way more stages than assult, and improve the landmaster the game will be a masterpiece!

          • Wooopigsooie

Absolutely. I probably put more time into that multiplayer than any other game save Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and NBA 2k (I’m a huge basketball fan).
P.S. U ever unlock the demon sniper?

          • jjbredesen

I unlocked everything 100%, all charectars (Wolf and Peppy) the wolfen and all the items, took me ages to find all the s flags, but i did it!

Only game i have played more multiplayer in is Melee.

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

HAHAHAHAHA it’s look like the NES

      • RyuNoHadouken

        probably because it is

        • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

          Touche Ryu

  • Capt. Smoker

For such a colorful vibrant company, their buildings look like dog poo, good to see them advancing forward though, albeit in an ugly way

  • GregoryTheRainMaker
  • sharlo galmo

i though nintendo is doomed, but they build a big big building for 1500 peeps, that mean if they make a game with 100 people, they can make 15 games at the same time. and last week nintendo of amerika had job for 32 peeps, it doens’t looks like a company who is going doomed. nintendo is smart doing this, so they don’t need thirdparty, they can do things on there own, nintendo is gonna kick asses just wait and see.

  • Squid

    Looks nice

  • DragonSilths

Now if this building doesn’t make more damn Mario, but other stuff like Starfox and F-Zero I will be happy. If its just another Mario building then I wont be amused.

  • Mario

    The future…

  • Logan Wayman

    Saaaaaayyyyyyy…it doesn’t look half bad.
