According to Business Development Manager Dan Adelman, Nintendo is planning to allow access to the Nintendo eShop via PC, smartphones, and tablets. This will most likely be similar to the current implementation on Xbox.com and PlayStation.com, where users can log into their accounts and browse digital downloads, purchasing them directly from the website. ”[Users will be able to ] log onto the site and set [purchases] up for download so that once they get home, it’ll be available for them and they can have that at their fingertips whenever they need it.” It doesn’t sound like there will be a remote install feature similar to what is available for PC users with Steam, but perhaps it’s something we could see in the future. local_offer Nintendo nintendo eshop wii u stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas Zombie Boy This is a great idea, and makes things a lot more convenient. I’ve just ordered something from Club Nintendo using my PC, so it makes sense. Javy G Not to mention the speed from scrolling and switching from page to page will make shopping a breeze. The Clockwork Being Im hoping this pushes to account based purchases. If my Wii U breaks(Not gonna happen) I want to be able to purchase another and re download my software to my new system. Zombie Boy I’m hoping *touch wood* that the Wii U is as unbreakable as Nintendo’s previous consoles. But I agree, they really should do something so that your downloads are linked to your account, not your console. Nintyfan They will most likely have to, as you’ll be signing into your account remotely, not the actual hardware itself. There is a really good chance account based purchase will come to the Wii U. Tecpedz94 Ya that is exactly what i was thinking the other day. If im gonna start using digital downloads which nintendo wants its users to use i would like to have a backup to restore any lost data or games from the nintendo website or some other site just in case something where to happen to my console even though an sd card is available. Mochlum Yeah, I think a database on Club Nintendo where you can store your games would be a great idea. disqus_sgtob6da3X yeah. I just lost my 3ds XL Animal Crossing game which was digital with my $13 left on my account. I got a new 3ds and hope that I could redown it back to my account but sadly no. I already bought a physical copy but it still was sad losing all that data. Saleh Sbeiti I don’t support digital gaming, sorry. Zombie Boy Not even Virtual Console games? SonicLucario I only support Virtual console games because they don’t sell those games anymore, but for current games I’ll go for the physical copy any day. I love to look at my game collection so I always go for a physical copy. Zombie Boy Me too, I much prefer physical copies. I guess I’m just a collector like that. But I still download those Virtual Console games, and the idea of being able to browse and order them while on the bus home from work and then just download and play them when I get back is very appealing to me. SonicLucario Yea same here, Im glade Nintendo is kinda stepping it up, I just pray that the WiiU will sell great this holiday season so more 3rd party developers develop games for the WiiU Zombie Boy I’m sure that, when those sales rise (and they will with the release of the first party games and apps such as Wii Fit U), the third party games will come. This happens at the start of every Nintendo console’s life cycle, and we’ve seen it time and time again, so just be patient. SonicLucario Yea im pretty patient, they just need to advertise the WiiU and its game a lot till the holiday seasons and it should be just fine Jorge Aguirre Actually I think its even better than that. Since the update Wii U can download updates automatically even when your console is off and therefore I think purchasing games on the go will download your game to your console as soon as you purchase it. Zombie Boy Even better, if that is the case. Game Master It well, b/c what happends when you buy a game? It starts downloading even when the Wii U is off. This will work the same way Entropyguy I, too, prefer physical copies, but I’ve enjoyed the Virtual Console and Indie games I’ve downloaded from the eShop. But yeah, if I have the choice to purchase a physical copy, that’s what I will do. Arthur Jarret They do sell VC games physically. It’s called e-bay… I only buy psn / steam / eshop-only games digitally myself. And VC games that were never released here, like Mario RPG, Sin & Punishment and Earthbound SonicLucario Well I mean in your local video game or electronic store they really are not available. And original physical copies of some VC games are pretty expensive Arthur Jarret My gameshop still has them (it’s a great gameshop – most only sell used up to one or two gens back, but not this one!) I get your point, though – I also prefer retail versions… but on DSi, wii, psn, 3DS and wii U I also have some hundred games downloaded that are download exclusives, without regrets… except EA’s sudoku for DSi, as it’s a buggy mess. Nintyfan What about indie games? Madmagican seriously, Shovel Knight is one of the reasons I bought a Wii U Saleh Sbeiti What about them? Mario We understand. ezquimacore … The_Colourful_Jester We understand. And don’t care for it. SonicLucario C’mon Nintendo this is one step closer to a Miiverse app Decker Shado Nice – set my Wii U to download while “off” – buy some digital games online while away/at work, come home to the games already downloaded and ready to go. 🙂 Mr. J Why isn’t there any 3ds news? RockieOllie Because this is primarily a Wii U centric site. I’m pretty sure we will be more likely to see Wii U news than 3DS here. Speaking of 3DS i hope they have eShop purchases across all platforms. So even if i’m on my 3DS i can buy a Wii U game or vise-versa Ice Climbers This guy ran into what appears to be a beta version of a unified eShop. It seems that we might be getting huge system updates for both Wii U and 3DS simultaneously this fall (and is why the summer update was delayed). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChkFguFTkR8 Zorpix YES! Mochlum That is pretty cool. I just hope the update also includes GBA games for 3DS and GCN for Wii U. Nintendo needs to give the 6th Generation more attention! Zorpix No GBA for 3DS. That was an ambassador exclusive thing. If they do GBA games I’m gonna be upset. GC would be amazing though Mochlum So… people who didn’t buy the 3DS early don’t deserve GBA games? :/ Zorpix technically no. It was a reward for buying the 3DS early, and Nintendo said “No more GBA games will be released via 3DS”. Thats why they’re doing it on the Wii U. That’s also why I got in the ambassador program, so they’d be screwing me over if everyone else got them Mochlum How is it screwing them over? You guys got 10 full GBA games for free, and we’d have to pay for them if they came, probably for $8 or $10. And it makes almost no sense to have GBA games on the Wii U. GBA games on 3DS and GCN games on the Wii U makes much more sense. Nintyfan As an Ambassador, I really don’t care if those GBA games are made available to everyone for purchase. But Nintendo and third parties should release other GBA games as well. We (Ambassadors) got them so there is no reason to complain. Mochlum That’s what I meant. Release all of the ambassador games, plus other great GBA games like Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Fire Emblem, Pokemon Emerald, etc. Ice Climbers They never actually said that. All they said was they have no current plans to release them to the general public. That was 2 years ago. I think it’s been long enough now that Nintendo can release them to the public. Zorpix I’m pretty sure they said they would never be available another way RockieOllie I like, I like! WiiUisgaming It is a great idea, unfortunately, I live in Latinamerica, where there is no WiiU eShop, so I am missing a lot of things. Mario Eres Latino? mr.Goodbar Eres Hoto? Mario Que? mr.Goodbar No mamés guey! Mario Okay… mr.Goodbar Hahaha! WiiUisgaming Asi es. Mario Ohhh! Nintyfan The next step is having unified account systems for games instead of them being tied to my system. thedeciderU yes Michael DeVore I’m not sure which way I like better. Binding it to the system lets me resell the system with the games. Binding it to an account lets it transfer to a new system easily, but prevents it from being resold. If I ever decided to sell my WiiU I’d want the games to go with it. TheUnBiasedGamer Binding it to a system has that single “advantage.” Binding it to an account has infinitely more. Ducked This is the future, this is the next way how we download our games! And who thought of it? Nintendo! Zorpix well actually, I think sony’s been doing this for a while now… Ducked Oh, sorry. How do I miss these things? Zorpix By owning Nintendo products, which is the best way to go 😉 Ducked Well I own a PS3, but I never heard about it doing this. Still, it’s great Nintendo did it. Nintyfan Better late than never! Ducked True Yousif Alromaithi I think Xbox did it first. Arthur Jarret Nope ’twas Steam. A long, long time ago – in a country far far away (or close by, depends on where you live) this steamy entity in a cloud decreed that it should be possible to purchase from device A, and put it on device B… yay – the sheep were jubilent with such news. The salt and the earth chimed in to join – and they became dust and saltclouds. The luck of the heaven didn’t reach the cloud, though – living in a sky of his own… please, asked the sky… and the clouds understood. Yousif Alromaithi Agreed about steam but I am talking home consoles off course. “laughing” not a big fan of PC. But PC has really great games. Might convert one day. Games I want for PC is Star Wars Old Republic 2011. Arthur Jarret My consoles boot up much faster, and I have little patience… it’s why I still play N64 very often (no load times!) – so I also prefer consoles… However, for the occassional RTS, AAA shooter (even tho’ I’m not a big fps fan), classic point n click or text adventures or obscure indie titles, I’ll gladly waste my precious time to boot up and log into my pc – installing and optimizing the game settings and downgrading my drivers due to compatibility issues. Also, the classic games steam offers for free sometimes… I never bought a single thing on the service :S Yousif Alromaithi I don’t really understand you saying or we are on the same page but I can see where you are going through your conversation and get a point or two. Arthur Jarret Was I that obscure? Ah well, we’re pretty much on the same page here. Apart from the few key experiences you just don’t see in a decent execution on consoles, I prefer consoles as well. Yousif Alromaithi That’s great because I thought you were a PC gamer. But then you stated steam so I thought you were a PC gamer aside from that I am no hater because games are fun dob’t they. So after short notice it was nice to know we are on same page. Zorpix I’ve been waiting for them to do this. This is a great idea and a huge step forward 🙂 Madmagican I’m fucking jubilant with this news so evident by the fact I used the word “jubilant” memk If this is the case then, there would need to be an update that linked your account info to a server and not just to your Wii U. CMB awesome idea Nintedward Soon , you will be able to control your washing machine with your smart phone! Wii Uoops! WHY DOES THIS ONLY HAVE ONE LIKE Bob Wilkerson I am not stopping there. I am trying to control all my electronics just with my thoughts… Arthur Jarret Get Google implant, you’ll need to upgrade your brain in 3 months, but it’s just so convenient! Bob Wilkerson I refuse to be come one of the Borg Arthur Jarret Refusal is futile. On the other hand, Watchdogs 2 will be Epic due to these developments! Arthur Jarret What do you mean, soon – there’s an app for that already (as well as app controlled power sockets, cameras and the like…) Get outta that hole, boy – and join us in 2013 (flying cars and holographic video exist too, they just haven’t been mass manufactured yet) Nintedward lol! I wouldn’t trust that app. get home and there would be toast and shit everywhere. Arthur Jarret Well, the app only works with one particular washer… there’s also an app controlled fridge. You can’t just set the temperature at work and ruin your girlfriends… erm….’lovely’ tuna casserole – but it can even scan certain products and tell when you run out, putting it on a shopping list – in some countries, it even works together with a door to door delivery service! you will never have to try anything new ever again! Nintedward That’s awesome! You’re in the bath and you use your smart phone app ”ball wash” HAHA! the future is nuts Arthur Jarret At least the future is clean nuts! Jorge Aguirre I want the ability to control my whole house with my phone such as turn n lamps, lights, fans, control temperature, turn on tv, change the channel ), control volume, same with radio, turn on and control the temp of my shower, flush toilets, open garage, turn on car, unlock/ lock doors both on cars and on doors from my house, maybe make it so that when I leave an area the lights tv radio power down by themselves unless I override it with my phone as well as when I leave my car or house the doors automatically look themselves etc. Nintedward Imagine if one of your friends got hold of your phone. It would be the biggest trolling disaster in history. RoyRelapse Would like to see a Miiverse app for Windows 8 🙂 Wii Uoops! Not sure if trolling or… Windows is a Microsoft product. Since Nintendo is competing with them, I doubt that will happen. BIG Franky a miiverse app NEEDS to be made available for the itunes and android markets though….Nintendo woudl be fools not to make one avail…. Mohammad Badir didn’t they pretty much confirm a MiiVerse app for smartphones? Bob Wilkerson Why… It is just an App.. They allow apps for other companies that compete more with Microsoft? Wii Uoops! They do? Well, I stand corrected. Maybe it will happen, RoyRelapse! Bob Wilkerson Yup, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/apps#Cat=t1 Mason742 Show me an app that is 100% competing with Microsoft that is on the app store for Windows 8 Mochlum This would be very useful for times when new games you want release and you are on vacation or something. This may hint at account system, which also may be useful. incoherent1 What would be nice too is being able to do Club Nintendo surveys from a smartphone app. It’s a small thing, but if they’re launching a Miiverse app they might as well include that as well. Bob Wilkerson This will be a very welcome addition… especially if you can make the purchase online and if your Wii U is in standby mode it can just download the item so it is ready for you when you get home or back to the console. So many times a game or something comes out during the day and I have to wait to get home to download it. Now if it is a 30MB Virtual Console game that is no big deal but if it is a 1-2GB+ eShop title I have to wait until it is done to play. If I can initiate the transaction and download away from the console it can download right away and be ready to play. everyone Cool idea. I hope they eventually let you download remotely to your system. I can imagine a game being released at work and wanting to have it downloaded and installed by the time you get home. RoboticLink Yeah, I hope this happens, it would be accessible to everyone and I wouldn’t have to worry about slow load time, especially on 3ds yoyodawgletmesnufflethatyuffle but if we can actiavte purchases from pc or phone. Then will our consoles have a feature to automaticly every 30 mins or an hour to connect to the internet in standby mode and download the game before we even get home or while we are away? Arthur Jarret Yes. Download by spotpass was already confirmed. JBeauregard This would lead to more impulse buys for me! TAKE MY MONEY haha Jorge Aguirre I think this is a very great idea that way I can purchase an eshop card and purchase the title on my phone and do some extra shopping or whatever it is I need to do and by the time I arrive home my game is finished downloading and its ready to play. Tim van Broekhoven I hope it’ll have the catchy music as well, I love it. 😀 ilovegoogleglass I don’t want this I want games and a less buggy system.MORE FEATURES! andrewjcole If you’ve used it, you would know that it’s not buggy. ilovegoogleglass I actually have one. Just because I support the Xbox one and have it as my pro pic doesn’t mean i don’t have another system. ilovegoogleglass Me use the YouTube app and in the browser and then come back and express your experience. andrewjcole I agree, teh YouTube app works terribly although using it online works great for me, ilovegoogleglass It doesn’t work for me when I go in to the browser.Have you used it recently? Can you check if there’s an update for your wii u? andrewjcole I have it updated to the latest version and it works fine. I used yesterday. andrewjcole Sorry about that. I’d bet you get that sort of thing a lot. ilovegoogleglass Thanks! Super Buu Very good idea INDEED A SNES Day Off Excellent idea, and I’m sure that any user would be glad to see their catalogue of downloaded game/activity in one space. The reason Nintendo will make this move is to relieve the stigma of having to boot the Wii U just to purchase a product – something that you wouldn’t have to do for physical games. It would certainly come in handy on Thursdays when you’re not at home, as a newly released title could just be waiting on your console when you get back. Although I’m guessing payments will be kept strictly to existing funds in your eShop account in order to simplify the process. Petri I don’t buy digital that often, but maybe this could mean that they’re working on tying purchases to accounts, rather than consoles? Andrew Chambers Um, It would be a remote install. The Wii U automatically downloads while it’s in sleep mode. Kenshin0011 The Wii U can now download AND install while it’s off. So yes, it would download and install while you’re away.
