With the PlayStation 4 poised to launch in Sony’s home country in just a few days, Nintendo is understandably beefing up its own offering in an attempt to persuade Japanese gamers hungry for something new that the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS have the best offerings. The Japanese launch of the PlayStation 4 is on February 22 and on that day, Nintendo will be offering significant discounts for some of its largest titles in the region. From February 22 to February 23, Japanese shoppers will be able to save 20 to 30 percent on all Donkey Kong titles, including the newly released Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. We learned yesterday that the game only sold about 36,000 copies during its first week on sale in the region, so it’s not surprising to see Nintendo drop the price so fast in the face of new competition. The following week Nintendo will be peddling discounts on The Legend of Zelda series, including the newly remade Wind Waker HD. Following that, sales on Mario games including Wii U virtual console releases will be available. It’s an understandable move by Nintendo, as the Wii U will finally have a new competitor console to compete with, instead of nearly 7 year old hardware. The Xbox One has not launched in Japan yet, but sales in Japan are usually so insignificant that we’ll be surprised if a similar effort is drummed up for the Japanese launch of the Xbox One. It will be interesting to see how Japanese gamers react to the launch of the PlayStation 4, given the bevy of titles that will be available to them. local_offer Nintendo wii u wii u japan stars Further Reading Nintendo loses patent appeal, ordered to pay Nintendo was brainstorming about Switch when Ony First time ever they actually understood marketing. GO NINTENDO o/ Mario Nintendo, you better get ready. Rukiafan Rukiachan Wii U is performing better than what most people think. The Mario Kart and Smash duo will be a devastating blow for the PS4 and will curbstomp the Xbox one to last place. matthew garcia How is it performing better then people think. 7 year old ps3 still outsells it each week Daniel Gonzalez Indeed. It’s sad when people are in denial. matthew garcia Yeah it is sad but when people spend money on there investment of a console they will be in denial cuz no one wants to believe they spent 300 bucks on a failing product. I paid 350 for my wii u and have no problem talking about my problems with it. I have ps4 also so that just gives me more options Rukiafan Rukiachan X1 and PS4 will never will be a sucess in Japan, but if Nintendo wants to push Wii U ahead in japan they will need to market the hell out of MK8. Daniel Gonzalez XB1 I can agree with you on, but PS4 on the other hand, has plenty of fans in Japan considering it’s their home region. It’s going to have a good launch. Beyond that, is anyone’s guess, but I”m confident it’s gonna do fine there. Rukiafan Rukiachan Don’t think so they’ll have to bring tons of japanese games first before it’ll sell it won’t survive over there. Daniel Gonzalez They have Japanese games as well.(J Lol. Why else would the PS3 sell good in Japan during it’s 5 year run? Don’t be silly. Fun fact, the PS3 sold more in Japan than Wii. It’s highly probable that PS4 will see the same success, epecially it’s high demand at this point. Rukiafan Rukiachan PS3 sell good in Japan? That’s a joke, right? Anyways,PS4 have a POOR launch line-up …. please you shit, go search for more news about PS4 cause you are dated about the market in japan right now. jay Poor lineup does not equal poor sales. Daniel Gonzalez Indeed. If something is popular among gamers, it’s going to sell despite if it has good games or not. You can have the best games in the world and it won’t equate into big sales. These days, rep means everything, especially in terms of sales. thedeciderU yes, nintendo has a lot of work to do in repairing how the public perceives them, their image, etc… gradually since the late ’90s they have been more or less bullied from what i’ve seen, the whole perspective that their systems are weak (not N64 or gamecube), their software is only for children, etc. i wish they’d just release some games and ads that made everyone go “shit, nintendo is badass.” i mean, they have the ip for all the bragging rights of amazing games, but the image is that those mascot characters are only for kids. while i love the colorful worlds of nintendo games, they need something gritty and more mature to offer those fans or potential wiiu owners that grew up with nintendo. a shooter is an obvious genre, but survival horror would also be a great avenue to explore. i know not all nintendo fans want a shooter or survival horror, but those are two mainstream genres missing on nintendo systems. just like i’m a huge platformer fan, but am not so into pokemon or pikmin-type of games. Daniel Gonzalez I have no desire to call Mario or any Nintendo game for kids. For me, it’s a matter of growing out of most of them. I’ve moved forward to newer genres and these days, I like my games a little gritty. Problem is, that Nintendo is stuck in a game industry that only the die hardest of Nintendo fans will appreciate their games, while the rest have moved forward with the norm of today’s industry. Is it fair to Nintendo? No, not at all, but the industry isn’t interested in what’s fair or unfair, only what is profitable and will fill their pockets. Truth is, Nintendo will have to either adapt to the norm of gamers today, or continue to stick to their guns and only garner low hardware sales. Most casuals prefer mobile games now, so that leaves Nintendo with only their die hards, which will most likely make up only GCN sales in the long term. They became too confident in the Wii and that third parties will be behind them, but that is rather foolish to believe. Daniel Gonzalez Touchy one aren’t ya? I’m indeed well aware of the market in Japan. Sorry that you have a blind outlook on the market overall. Wii sold 12.76 m of hardware in Japan in its lifetime, while PS3 sold 9.84. While Wii sold more in this case, it wasn’t a by a huge margin. So that says the PS4’s will be similar or possibly better. Indeed Wii U is selling quite well in that region, but there’s nothing that shows that PS4 won’t have success there until proven otherwise. I don’t believe people from a Nintendo related site makes up the mass opinion of the industry. No use being offended bro. Poor lineup or not in your opinion, it’s selling like hotcakes. Can deny it, but denial doesn’t stop sales increase. Rukiafan Rukiachan . Japanese gamers aren’t going to go ga-ga over Uncharted, Killzone and Infamous. uptownsoul Here’s fresh news about Japanese developers clamoring over developing for the PS4… http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/02/20/sony-japan-president-japanese-developers-want-to-bet-on-ps4-due-to-high-sales-in-the-west/ Rukiafan Rukiachan Nah…it seems to me like the PS4 will underperform compared to the PS3 this generation.Fact. matthew garcia How is that ps4 already sold 2 million more consoles then the ps3 had at this point in time. Ps4 is actually over achieving right now there way ahead of there sales goal unlike wii u who didnt even get close to there target of 9 million. They didnt even hit half of that uptownsoul Ok, i see you didn’t actually read the article. And ” ‘IT SEEMS TO ME’ like the PS4 will underperform compared to the PS3 this generation.FACT” Yes, its a fact that you just stated your opinion. But thats all you’ve been saying. I give you an article showing how much Japanese developers are interested in making games for the PS4 and you just dismiss it. matthew garcia Xbox 1 will have no success in japan but ps4 im sure will do just fine. Once final fantasy and kingdom hearts come out ps4 will sell crazy in japan Brian Lockett PS4 will never be a success in Japan? Considering that the PS3…and PS2 (the best-selling console in history)…and PS1…were all highly successful in Japan? Considering that the PS4 has already almost met the Wii U’s sales but has only been out a few months? Considering that Japanese PS4 pre-orders sold out complete in mere minutes? See, the naive Nintendo fans like you are the very thing hurting Nintendo the most, other than Nintendo hurting themselves. You’re clearly without any real honest perspective about the Wii U’s market situation. Pure denial. Nintendo keeps catering more to people who will buy their games regardless, rather than catering more to what’s best for the Wii U. They know that you’ll buy Mario Kart regardless, whether it’s good or not–you’ll buy it just on the title and tradition alone. That’s not entirely good, because it causes them to get complacent and not challenge themselves to do more than the minimum. They rest on that more their fan base than they do in taking risks in making new franchises and amping up their lacking online services. And even then, I can tell you that most Nintendo fans who were alive to play NES and SNES in their prime can tell you–Nintendo’s generally waned over the years. They used to be high on their game. Now, they’re far too relaxed and they rely more on a younger generation of Nintendo gamers who have no real sense of feeling that decline. When some folks were praising the likes of Nintendo Land, you can just see how much people have compromised about what they accept from Nintendo and just where the Wii U was headed. The modern Nintendo fans tend to be so naive, to the point of denial. It’s no wonder they’re the only ones with Wii U claiming they’re have the time of their lives with them. Anyone honest with themselves know the Wii U’s lacking in offerings, that it should be better, and making all the comparisons in the world with PS4 and Xbox One’s current (launch window) lineup as something to measure Wii U’s one-year-plus-lead by (two years, if you count its time since initial announcement) is just pathetic. PS4 alone will put the Wii U to shame in rate of titles, this time next year, if Nintendo doesn’t change their strategy. Sony’s already near surpassing the 15-months worth of total hardware sales of the Wii U–in only about three months. The PS4 will easily surpass the Wii U’s one-plus-year’s worth of a measly 5 million units as soon as it launches in Japan in two days. Both Nintendo and Nintendo fans need a reality check, if they want Wii U to thrive instead of just barely getting by. What’s funny is when realists like myself point this stuff out, it’s the folks like you who are too quick to down-vote us, not wanting an ounce of honesty about Nintendo’s situation. Daniel Gonzalez Denial is part of the fanboy logic. I wouldn’t waste too much time reasoning with them. Been there since the NES launch back in ’86 worldwide. Indeed, over the years it has slowly waned. Third parties no longer even want a relationship with them anymore. Especially since they had harsh policies way back then and even today, they are closed out of the console development process. Daniel Gonzalez Wii U’s sales have dipped down since the holidays. I don’t see how that’s good performance. Mario Kart and Smash will sell, but it’ll be along the lines of the Gamecube. thedeciderU sales are not enough to say that the wiiu failed this gen, we won’t really know for a couple years. but yes, it’s a slow start, and i think current sales would be perceived better, but nintendo hasn’t done jack shit to generate hype. we’ve known about the same games since launch. where the hell are announcements and release dates? Daniel Gonzalez At this rate, it is looking at GCN sales. It’s a matter of opinion, that could change if they prove otherwise, but I don’t see much advertising or anything to look forward to in terms of games in development or even release dates for announced games. The hype is minimal. Mario Kart 8 is their only big hype train at the moment. thedeciderU they should have just launched the wiiu in nov. 2013, then their offering would be crazy and this year would be full of all the games we got but at a steady pace, plus the hardware features would also be more ready than in nov. 2012. i bought a wiiu day one, and, while i’m glad it was out, it’s been a rough year. Zorpix yeah, waiting a year and having the current library available at launch would’ve been crazy. thedeciderU right?! sony and ms would be sweating it. i am looking forward to games from them this year too though 🙂 jay Been saying this forever. Releasing the Wii U in 2012 was the worst Nintendo mistake ever. Daniel Gonzalez They should have held off until November of 2013. The sales that it had during the holiday would have been a better start, especially with more games ready for release. thedeciderU nintendo almost pulled a sega saturn lite… man i hope not haha Rinslowe That is solid logic. I totally agree. greengecko007 This is a great idea and great to see. Nintendo’s old model of “We don’t care about the competition” needs to take a hike. If you ignore the competition they will walk all over you. Alex All they need now is advertise this like crazy and then they will sell like crazy. jjbredesen But, Nintendo don’t know how to advertise like crazy 😛 Rinslowe Well, they need to learn…. jjbredesen True, but how on earth are we supposed to teach them anything when they don’t listen!! Rinslowe Gain their respect by drinking Iwata under the table! In a winner takes all “Sake” session… Easier said than done though, so they say. jjbredesen Yes, that is genious only problem is i have nothing to offer compared to what they have to offer XD If i lose i can’t really give them much… Just sendt a mail to them now, hope i accepts! Driking with underage stundents to decide the fate of his company will look great on his CV lol. Rinslowe True, but that’s only if he wins, haha…. jjbredesen Lol my body is ready! http://danekentfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Big-Bear-.jpg Rinslowe Is that a “Yoshi” where his body should be? Holy S***! Haha…. matthew garcia I think if u advertise alot more at this point it would still be difficult. People know what they want and already have there eyes on ps4. Not much nintendo can do to change there minds. Maybe if they would have called the console super nintendo 2 and not wii u that would have helped but to late for that lol Alex Well that happen the same thing with 3DS and Nintendo could’ve called it more better name but it still sold a lot. matthew garcia 3ds actually has developer support unlike wii u Daniel Gonzalez It’s a good move, but PS4 sales won’t be affected much by the sale. A console launch will have people’s interest more in this case. Wii U owners will certainly check it out. Brian Lockett Advertise what? A system with only a handful of decent of current titles and no big lineup of major titles announced? Hardly. The PS4’s lineup might be a bit slow, but it just started, whereas Nintendo’s had two whole years to get ahead of the competition. And at least PS4 fans know that they’ve got some big titles coming to PS4 eventually. Sony won’t rest on their laurels of PS3–they’re going full-force with the PS4. Wii U fans are all left in the dark about what’s coming to Wii U, aside from just four major games (SSB, Zelda, Bayonetta 2, “X”) we’ve long known, some of them for about two years now. companyoflosers wii u has just as many if not more big titles coming up as well. the difference is in your taste in games. if you dont like nintendo’s style of games then ya, it would seem like it has no games when it actually had quite a sizable launch library compared to launches in the past. ps4 and xb1 currently dont have much either. it will take time for ALL of them. the way nintendo does thing is they dont annouce things until late development normally. there are a few exceptions but for the most part it would seem like theres bigger gaps in announcements because nintendo takes their time with games and wont tell people about the until they are ready to. others announce games two or three years in advance and we are stuck waiting for them. id rather not know about a game for longer then get it seemingly sooner than know and have to drag it out for three years wondering and waiting for a game that may not even be as good as they hype would lead you to believe. Brian Lockett They needed to stop ignoring the competition 8 years ago. It’s sad that Nintendo’s being so reluctant to up their game. They could do far better, but are just too stubborn to learn. Rinslowe Very true, never underestimate the competition… Nintendo has indeed been too relaxed on that topic for many years. The competition is real, they are focused on increasing market share and mind space. And they’re vocal and in the spot light. Nintendo needs to get in the fight. And start doing things according to whats actually happening around them. They are to this day, healthy, loaded and in possession of resources. Barricading themselves around a fortress of passive participation is grossly counter productive. But, I believe they can make Wii U a sustainable, profitable platform with titles that the masses want to play. They just need to get on with the offensive already… Vinicius Am I the only who doesn’t think this sale is that big? Yen Even if it’s just 10%, it’s always nice to get something a little cheaper. That’s the idea behind these sales. Brian Lockett Yeah, but the sale isn’t focused on getting prices cheaper for existing Wii U owners. The sales being pitched to hopefully encourage new Wii U owners. They’re trying to take some of the sting that the PS4 launch in Japan will do and has already been doing. Towards this purpose, this e-Shop sale’s not a big deal. AAAkabob Oh that’s smart a sale that only people w/ a Wii U can see. That’ll definitely get more people to buy it-.- jjbredesen lol, if they put Wii U on sale aswell for 20% then it would sell loads, but this will help a bit i guess… Magnus Eriksson 50% would be more reasonable I think… Daniel Gonzalez Or pull a Steam and make it 50-75% off. jjbredesen Or make it free to play 😉 Random12multi On the weekend? jjbredesen lol, nah how about always 😛 iamserious Damn! Lol Daniel Gonzalez Hey, it sounds good to me. 🙂 companyoflosers its not like its already the cheapest console on the market right now. geez, how cheap can you get?! Daniel Gonzalez I’d say drop the console $100 and bundle DKC:TF with it for $30 more. Perfect bargain. companyoflosers i was perfectly content buying it for full price at launch. im not exactly rolling in cash either. i just feel happy supporting nintendo. the last of the big three who isnt singlemindedly after just my wallet. even before we knew the price point of the other two systems it was less than they were. i thought it was a good price for the technology in it. people are just too spoiled imo. they dont understand that if we bleed nintendo dry by forcing them to lower all their prices, we wont get as many games. this isnt an ouya for crying out loud, its a REAL console. expect to pay a reasonable price! Magnus Eriksson But its still too high priced. Nintendo should lower the price of both Wii U and games more radical to be able to face competition. Wii U should be sold at about150$ (this is what a PS3 costs today approximately) and the games should lie somewhere around the price of mobile phone games (5-10$). Nintenjoe82 Reggie said Zelda U would be F2P: Heart $0.99 Heart Piece $3.99 Hylian Shield $9.99, Master Sword $49.99 Daniel Gonzalez I don’t see that happening. Magnus Eriksson LOL. 😀 That would be horrible 😀 jjbredesen wow, i guess the triforce would cost $999 Daniel Gonzalez It’s a good attempt, but those who preordered and are interested in the PS4 will most likely ignore it and stick to their plans. Those who own one however, will certainly look at these offers. Magnus Eriksson The plans are horrible. It seems to me like Ninty thought that a few games would trick enoug people to buy this junk, and bring third parties back. Now they have to do desperate stuff like the Dreamcast did. They deserve to fail as hardware company now I think. 17 months, and they could have done many not-too-radical moves to bring it up on their feets – instead they chose not to do a shit. I really hope they will go 3rd party as soon as possible. That would mean that they could only rely on the things that appeal to the fans, and stop doing alot of shit that they only can do as a console maker (Wii Fit U and fucking balance board – I look at you) rafael Just because we dont know what they are doing, it doesnt mean they arent doing anything… LopsidedPasta I disagree. If we can’t see what Nintendo is doing, THEN WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE LESS IN-TUNE WITH THE GAMING INDUSTRY CAN? When it comes to marketing, the entire point is spreading the word to every average joe in the world (ideally). Putting up fliers within NOA headquarters doesn’t help. These deals need to be publicized. Nintendo needs more games worth publicizing. We can keep saying “tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow”, but the competition is saying “today”. That’s why Nintendo is caught between a rock and a hard place. Daniel Gonzalez They seem to prefer being at the bottom. ではない私の名前 これは We all love an underdog. The Clockwork Being Should have made it retail too. But we are ignoring that these type of things actually work in Japan. Gaming info from Sony and Nintendo goes around quick in the crowds and thus more Japanese are informed. So I’ll see how it goes during launch week for the PS4. If during that week the Wii U exceeds what it is currently selling in Japan(7000-9000) then maybe they just did well. companyoflosers they really should sell redeemable cards or something in retail locations so people at least know these sales exist when they dont have a wii u. i used to joke in the past about how nintendo never lowered prices on anything like EVER. i think twilight princess for wii took almost until the end of the wii lifespan to go down in price for example. now they have sales all the time. i think thats something people should know but probably arent aware of. Nintenjoe82 now all they have to do is advertise it more than Sony advertise the PS4…… Daniel Gonzalez Even if they did, it won’t do much good. Many people will be focused on the launch. Nintendo should have advertised consistently from the start. I suppose better late than never. Pilu Skifte Grønvold Wii U needs to become a CHEAP alternative or secondary console. Nintendo have to realize it is not even competing with PS4 or XBone, as everyone sees it as a last console which is true in many ways. Drop the prize to minimize the loss! 8ruc3 Nintendo don’t have to realize anything about how the Wii U can’t compete with PS4 and Xbox One because they already know it. They never created the Wii U with the intention of being more powerful than PS4 or Xbox One. They want innovation and originality. They always said that they don’t want to be like the competition. Only people like you don’t want to understand this… Marcus Larsson Then they can be cheaper too 🙂 8ruc3 Personaly, I don’t think the Wii U needs to be cheaper. I think the price is fine. What it needs for sure is a lot more games (and better 3rd party support) and a much better Virtual Console library with more than just NES or SNES games. One VC game a week is really not enough. More ads would help too imo. matthew garcia Your completely wrong of course nintendo wants to beat ps4 and xbox 1. There a business 1st and gamer 2nd. They hope to make as much money as possible. They had no problem talkin about sales of the original wii but now that wii u is flopping everything is an excuse. Trust me nintendo wants to win console wars also Brandon But thats not going to happen. The whole casual audience is pretty much gone and went to mobile or they moved on to the the ps or xbox. matthew garcia Yeah man the whole market changed . Wii u is just not suited for this generation. I hope they learn on there next console. My wii u will collect dust now til the new zelda comes out. Im not much into mario titles. jay ” They had no problem talkin about sales of the original wii but now that wii u is flopping everything is an excuse. ” There game plan hasn’t changed. They didn’t consider the Wii to be in competition to the HD twins. matthew garcia They say that so that if it fails they can just have the excuse of well its not in competition. Sony had the same excuse with the psp and said it wasnt in competition with ds but I knew it was. Sony just failed to catch much of the market. Same thing with the wii u 8ruc3 Of course they want to make profit. I know that. But the truth is that ONLY Nintendo really know what they are thinking or doing. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe you’re wrong. Who knows. Personaly, I think that beating the PS4 and the Xbox One would only be a bonus to them. I think their primary goal is to innovate, to change the way we play, to be creative. If their primary goal was to beat the PS4 and Xbox One, they would have made a much more powerful console with no Gamepad or Wiimote/nunchuck. Only “normal” controllers. Think what you want, but it’s clear to me that yes they hope to beat the PS4 and Xbox One, but it’s not the first thing on their list. If it happens, sure they will be really proud. Who wouldn’t? Especially with all the people like you saying the Wii U is flopping after only one year of existence. That’s why they never had any problem to show their sales with the Wii. Because at first, everyone was saying that the Wii would flop but it didn’t. As a matter of fact, it won last generation with ease. And as you know it, the Wii was very weak compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Another proof that their primary objective never was to beat the competition. It was to innovate and to be creative first. They took big risks in doing so and they succeeded. They changed the way we play games and they beat the competiton (PS3/Xbox360). So I think they had the right to be proud to show their sales numbers. Now with the Wii U, it’s a different story at the moment. But it’s still too soon to judge if it’s flopping or not imo. The Wii U is only one year old. Let’s wait and see. But if you can’t, there’s always the PS4 and Xbox One to satisfy your lack of patience… matthew garcia I do own ps4 and my patience with nintendos console has worn thin. It is flopping cuz I see nothing in the future for it but the same games they been talkin about for a whole year. These games should have been in development since the development of the console. They rushed the wii u out thinkin it would survive on the wiis success alone knowing games would be spread months apart. Now look at the boat there in. Nintendo has a bunch of idiots over there 8ruc3 I agree with you on the fact that maybe they rushed the Wii U and that the games should have been in development much earlier. They certainly made some mistakes. But I think they will correct the situation soon. If not then too bad for them. Meanwhile, I enjoy my Wii U a lot with the games already available. Nice talking with you. Have a nice day. matthew garcia Im glad u enjoy your wii u its always about what entertains u the most and shouldnt matter what anyone says. I always had all consoles and its hard for me cuz sometimes I just dont know what games to get cuz of all the options. Its cool your loyal to one console but im not that type of gamer. U have a nice day also jay Yeah its a last gen. XBone and ps4 are gonna BLOW Wii U out the water in graphics-wise. [OOPS!! Thought it was 2012 again!!] classicgamer20 The wiiu already is already the cheapest of the group. Also dropping the price will put nintendo in deeper shit. TrueWiiMaster The source for this article says Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will be on sale, not Tropical Freeze… Dimitri Soto All Nintendo has to do is advertise all their exclusives in comparison to the competitions exclusives. I love my ps4 and wii u but right now I’m only buying games for wii u because those on ps4 that are exclusive suck and even with infamous and their coming out they don’t seem to stack up to Mario 3d world wind waker hd donkey kong TF pikmin and soon to come out mario kart and smash bros GregoryTheRainMaker It would be nice if this was also something that you could experience in the West too, but you know..that may be too difficult. Josie the Sketcher This is a fantastic idea. Hope it goes well. We all knew it would be imminent when PS4 will overtake the Wii U total sales which is sad. I believe that Nintendo will get the Wii U back in the game later (hopefully sooner) this year. For now I say to Nintendo… GregoryTheRainMaker Not likely…..it depends how much Nintendo is willing to advertise the Wii U and the games…they do not do a good job normally as it is, and they are out of touch. The way Iwata runs Nintendo makes them mediocre, and again the next time they will do anything significant to try to prop of the Wii U is in the middle of 2014 at E3. I don’t think the Wii U is going to die, but there is a strong chance it’s going to continue to struggle. Josie the Sketcher True! All we could do is to hope Nintendo can bring out a brilliant strategy that would convince gamers that the Wii U is a great console for everyone. I agree they are being hopeless at the moment with marketing. GregoryTheRainMaker The only thing they can do to convince gamers to buy a Wii U is advertise and market their exclusives effectively, since they do have the best line-up of exclusives compared to PS4 and Xbox One. They are just not being efficient in promoting their obvious strength. Since their third party support is going to be tepid… they have to continue to have great 1st party and 3rd party exclusives available and sign more talented studios to their brand to help make more games. Kinhas Just Give me yoshis island GODDAMNIT!! matthew garcia Ha how many sidescrollers does a console need lol Blue Hernandez 10 million. matthew garcia If I want that many I would just go back to snes and genesis lol. I dont want that many anymore BIGCHIEF LOL how many FPS does a console need? Or better yet how many FPS sequels does a console need? Ha… matthew garcia True but I choose big open world environments over side scroller anyday. I work hard for my money and if there gonna charge 50 or 60 bucks for a game it better be somethin huge not a sidescroller that was done a million times in the 90’s RichM Technically we will have a similar option although not offered directly from Nintendo. On Feb. 23 thru March 1st, Best buy will be offering eShop cards at 20% off. Both DK and WW will be available in the eshop for download. You would be able to get both for a total out of pocket of $80 (assuming you bought a $100 card for $80). Then, if you are a digital deluxe member, you will get 1000 points which is another $10 in eShop credit. cha-Ching!!! Don’t forget to do your survey for Club Nintendo coins either. Have I thought about this a bit too much? Yup! J_Joestar I’m still annoyed that Best Buy deal isn’t available in Canada >_< William Martinez PS4 will sell pretty well even if it doesn’t bring an appealing library of games right now, why? because the advertising and because is “popular”… that’s sad because even though i consider PS4 a great machine i also think the games it has to offer are becoming boring (of course there are exceptions) Wii U has gave me a lot of fun and new ways to play (i didn’t have a Wii) nintendo NEED to bring variety too, they need to advertise mature games aswell(like bayonetta 2) or else they won’t attract core gamers, there are a lot of people who want to buy a Wii U but they only see kiddy stuff and fit games…. this year E3 better has F-zero, Metroid, Fatal frame, or any kickass game like that, while mario kart 8 and super smash are great tittles people are afraid of just getting a few huge hits and a bunch of party, healthy and educational games. David Trail Core gamers. You mean the Fifa/ COD crowd? They aren’t core gamers. William Martinez those are not core but mainstream…. jay Go tell that to a 12 year old “mature gamer”. J_Joestar yeah i know what you mean, even just between the XO and PS4, the XO’s exclusives are just far better, but i feel no interest in ever getting it but the PS4 feels like something i’ll have to get some time down the road. matthew garcia For now xbox1 does have better exclusives but later this year and 2015 that will completely flip Blue Hernandez Hey I didn’t know you were here too lol. And yeah the X1 exclusives are the reasons why I chose it over the PS4. Same with the Wii U, I love Sonic/Mario/Zelda/Super Smash Bros. games so I got one of those too. I’m sure the PS4 will get better games soon but between PC/X1/WiiU/360/3DS I can wait for PS4 2.0 with a price drop and a ton of games to choose from. Adecentboy777 Won’t help a lot! 🙂 But a nice try! Donaald That’s a good move, too bad eshop purchases are tied to your account because that’s what deters many people from buying from the eshop desgraciado79 Nintendo Life has this weeks eShop releases for us in North America. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/02/nintendo_download_20th_february_north_america Lil J Moore Where are the commercials at then? I’ve seen more ps4 commercials then WiiU and and Xbox1 commercials combined. Daniel Gonzalez Despite the sale, it won’t do much to lure people away from the PS4 launch. It’s a respectable effort, though. Brandon Not much people are interested in the wii u even if it has better exclusive at this time and cheaper. The thought is to get a good console that will last and have full support towards the games. Which ps4 is the most impressive console out, so people are going after it like its the ps1. The wii era has died and for some reason nintendo tried to revive it, but the wii u is not exactly the same as the wii(price, games, and innovation). Still a good console, but just not good enough. Daniel Gonzalez A lot of the casuals who bought the Wii have moved on to mobile devices, so all Nintendo has left is their loyal diehard fans at this point. They don’t make up enough to warrant Wii sales unforunately. Maybe GCN at best. It is a nice console for, but the lack of advertising and more importantly, the lack of third party support is hurting it’s chances. Not sure how long I’ll be holding on to mine. Might possibly donate it. alex toschi I’m interested to see how the PS4 does in Japan during it’s release. It’s a very Western console right now I wouldn’t expect it to blow us away with the number of sales it gets given it’s line-up is lackluster at this time. Brian Lockett Let’s just put it this way: The pre-orders for PS4 in Japan? Sold out in mere minutes. Minutes. alex toschi I just don’t understand why to be honest. There is almost nothing Japanese gamers play on that console right now. I never buy anything until it’s got at least a few games I want. It doesn’t make sense in any consumer business to buy something BEFORE it’s worth it. I know it’s my opinion but I’m just going off what the sales show what gamers buy in Japan in recent years. Eh, I’m not going to rain on their parade, I didn’t buy the Wii U until it was a year old and I had games ready to play on it, and I’m certainly not getting a PS4 until around the same time either. Adam Porter it won’t work, why would it?? imagine you were geared up for the last 12 months to buy a ps4 on launch day, and the time is finally here, but oh wait nintendo are having a sale on games for a console i didn’t care about for the last year and a half, i’ll just pop in and buy one now, oh wait NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!! it’s been 17 months and nobody cares about wiiU, it’s over. i just want zelda to come out already so i can play it and then throw the damn console away. alex toschi That seems rather silly. There will be other games besides Legend of Zelda, and if you would really throw away a 300 dollar console after playing a 60 dollar game you may want to rethink your financial spending. Adam Porter i bought the console for one reason, i had a belief in nintendo that they wouldn’t screw up and that atleats they would have a zelda ready within 12 months, but alas i was wrong. i love zelda games i was going to buy the console to play it regardless of price, obviously i’d keep the console, i just want it away from my tv. it’s pretty good for netflix and youtube though tbf i have to give nintendo that. alex toschi Do you know the future? I mean it’s only been a little over a year dude chill. Nothing is certain, the first year was lackluster but there hasn’t been a failure yet. I’m as disappointed as you that they haven’t lived up to expectations but you are being a bit dramatic. Nintendo hasn’t put out a Legend of Zelda game in the first year of a home console since the Super Nintendo besides Twilight Princess Wii version, but that was developed for the Gamecube originally so I don’t count that. clownshoes1982 so, why are you on a Wii U page? Adam Porter because i’m waiting for some news about the console that i might actually be interested in. child of light looks like the only game announced for this year that i’d be interested in so far. i have the console btw, day one adopter right here, and the only person i know that does have one. Blue Hernandez Sonic Boom is the most anticipated game of the year. Brandon Your joking right. TheMoeses i hope so… try to understand him. Blue Hernandez No. Please understand. Brandon Ok Satoru Iwata. LOL NyallJodhan For me it’s right up there. Rinslowe Everyone has a right to post here, afaik. Ricky__Spanish Nothing for the US as per usual Adam Porter if you think you have it bad try living in europe -_-‘ asdfg Are you guys complaining? Try living in Brazil Adam Porter all the people thinking that nintendo will be fine as soon if they weather the storm for a few years and bring out a new console sometime down the road are sooooo wrong. i’d say 50% of nintendos problem with the wiiU is the fact that the wii left a bad taste in so many peoples mouths, yes it had some great games and gameplay but being honest it lacked the polish of ps3 and xbox360, now wiiU is only matching what people had 7 years ago, so what we now have is 2 successive generations of gamers being disappointed in nintendo products, that’s going to be say 12-14 years in length, there will be a generation gap were adult gamers in their 20’s will never have played a nintendo console that was at the top end of gaming tech, and kids who will never have either. by that time the nostalgia factor will be gone for nintendo as noone will have played the bloody games to get the nostalgic feeling. THIS IS NINTENDOS BIGGEST PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE TO FIX IT FAST. you can’t be out of the game for that long and stay relevant. jay There were a lot more problems than that. oontz Well said. I agree with many of your points. Brian Lockett It won’t matter. Sales of the e-Shop games for Wii U won’t matter if people don’t buy Wii U consoles. Nintendo doesn’t seem to want this thing bad enough. They’re being way too reserved with games and then act like small efforts like these will be good enough to generate Wii U sales. I really, really wish they’d amp it up a lot more. Stop being so reserved–go all out with game development. Establish new brands and new second-party developers. Announce new games now. Show people reasons to buy a Wii U other than just mere fan-level sentimentalism. Otherwise, Wii U will simply disappear in the crowd this year. Sony will undoubtedly garner high sales in Japan this week, and they’ll waste no time to bring a strong lineup this year. You can’t afford to rest on your laurels, Big N. Brian Lockett To the disliker: A quiet, anonymous down-vote is a most cowardly means of opinion. If you disagree, have enough balls to tell someone why you disagree. William Martinez they gave me two anonymous dislikes too for pointing out the true…. i love nintendo and i love my wii u but i’m not a fanboy, Selina Kyle Coincidence? I think not… Rinslowe Well, I’m not going to try and predict whether or not this act of disruption will affect PS4’s momentum. But, at least Nintendo are doing something proactive towards that event… leo too little to late, PS4 will out sell the Wii U in 2 days. FutureFox Reggie: Sony isn’t our competition, in fact, we’re celebrating their Japanese console launch with a massive sale of our own. Xavier Lopez Chabelo Im sorry but not gonna work, the PS4 ill outsell he Wii U in a few days e_rocket Won’t work, not at all… 🙁 CervantesPR LOL as if that is going to do anything LMAO wii u is going to be crushed and surpassed in sales today edge This is going to be ugly. I appreciate they’re trying to do SOMETHING, but I think you’re kidding yourselves if you don’t realize the PS4 is going to swamp the Wii U in Japan. Ritsujun Poor Nintenduck. Baum 「ツリー」 Why should they put as much effort into a similar discount for the XB1 release? Microsoft’s always been doing pisspoor in Japan (for good reason), why should that change with a “gaming” console, that’s not even focussing on games?
