If you’ve been playing through Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and have been experiencing a glitch that prevents you from progressing past a certain level in World 3, Nintendo has issued a patch today that should correct the issue. Here’s the official statement:

Fixes an issue where, upon completing level 3-3 – Frantic Fields, the path to level 3-4 – Scorch ‘n’ Torch would not open up, preventing players from proceeding with the game

If you have encountered this issue, downloading this update will allow you to continue with the game as normal.

The title update should prompt as soon as you start the software from the Wii U menu. Did anyone experience this bug when playing the game? Let us know in the comments.

  • Saul Rivera

Finished the game long ago so I guess I didn’t have this problem…though…I still have a lot of levels to unlock

    • Kyle

Same here, Some of the secret exits are impossible to find.

  • Cena’s Smirk

Never experience this bug. What happens if I update but never had the problem?

    • DK_Hadouken

      Your experience will go unchanged.

  • Petri

Damn… fixing glitches before I even knew they existed, Frostbite team could learn something from them.
Though I just got in world 3, but still, this is the first I hear of this.

    • Ducked

I take it that owl gave you some rough feathers?

      • akaDenver

stupid Owl, still cant pass it! lol

        • Ducked

Gave me a tough time too.

          • steve

on miiverse i always see people complain about the owl… whats so hard about it? i found it to be one of the easier fights. the baboons were tough though.

          • BIG Franky

haha… so funny how random players have such different perspectives…. I beat the Baboons first try and the Owl was a total bitch for me… my son had to beat the Owl for me and he says its the easiest… and by the looks of how easy it was for him to beat it, it was!

          • steve

haha thats funny, by the time kids today are adults they will be like neo from the matrix after playing video games now and in the future.

      • Petri

Nah, though the bosses has been fun and challenging.
I just haven’t had time to play it.
And now that I checked, I’m in world 5 actually.
That sushi ingredient gave me some hard time though, lost at least 30 balloons on it.
Limited time I have, I haven’t been able to keep track of the progress, and that picture fooled me too, is it from W5 or W6?

        • Kyle

          W6. I think.

    • RyuNoHadouken

i finished it with a 100% completion and didnt encounter any glitches

  • Seth S. Scott

    no bug for me.

  • What is this fixing bugs and glitches in games thing?? I am not used to this as we usually get statements from game developers/publishers like they want to focus on DLC and extras that cost money rather than fixing their game issues.

Oh wait… this is NIntendo… Nevermind

    • Forbsz

I don’t normally read the comments or sign in but I had to sign in to give you props to this awesome comment 100% true as well yeah nintendo has their mistakes and faults like every other company but they’re one of the best companies!

  • BIG Franky

I am past Island 3 and didn’t get impacted by this…. though there are multiple alternate routes on every Island, so I may not have gone down this path (I plan on attempting to 100% this game after I finish the primary campaign, so I haven’t played every possible level on each island yet)… awesome game so far though…

  • Ducked

Thankfully I didn’t experience this glitch. I’m on the world 3 boss fight right now. Haven’t really spent a lot of time on this game.

I’ve been doing those challenges on New Super Mario Bros U that I never took the time to play. Their pretty easy after playing Luigi U

  • Xero Azure

Meanwhile at UbiSoft: “Assassin’s Creed 3 Is Perfect, Forget about it”

  • anthony optimo

Hmm, I never experienced this glitch…

  • Cyberus

Wouldn’t it be more efficient to finish the games before people buy them?

    • most people here completed the game without ever experiencing the glitch. Usually I’d agree but in this case, that glitch seems to affect only a few players. I’m just saying this because DK:TF is actually one of the most polished games around these days, where one glitch/fix really makes it to the news while it’s completely normal to stumble over bugs and glitches at every corner in some other games.

  • greengecko007

Great, so can we stop using the quote “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad”? Obviously Nintendo understands what patches are now that we are in 2014.

    • LukeMM95

I still don’t want rushed games full of bugs. The fact that the company will eventually release a patch isn’t an acceptable excuse if the majority of the game is broken.

      • greengecko007

I understand that, but my point is that the tired quote from Miyamoto doesn’t hold true anymore, especially when Nintendo is just as guilty of releasing games with game breaking bugs.

        • LJay

So i take it your game was broken then!? I know didnt have a problem,it doesn’t change the fact that Nintendos consistant quality is far beyond everyone else and there fixing before hardly anyone notices and not expecting you to pay for bullshit dlc before they do so.

        • oontz

This isn’t the first time a game breaking glitch has been found on a Nintendo game.

  • bistricky

Never faced this glitch, and by the sounds of it, not many did or ever will …. probably only occurs if you have certain puzzle pieces or a specific number of balloons or using a purchased special ability …. but its great to know that even this very rare to face glitch was corrected by Nintendo with a patch.

  • Dark-Link73

Nice! I didn’t even know there was a glitch. Great work Nintendo/Retro! 🙂

  • Sam

Donkey Kong Tropical FREEZE. Not the same kind of glitch, but…

  • Kyle

World 3 is easily my favorite level, although it has the worst boss fight. Level 3-1 is Awsome.

  • Razo_E

Just played that stage for the first time the day before yesterday, yikes!

  • DragonSilths

Beat the game like 3 weeks ago, never had any glitch.

  • 00EpicGamer00

The awkeard moment when you realize, you never knew there was a game breaking glitch in DKTF. (Seriously, I’ve never experienced this glitch.)
