nx

The Nintendo NX is the codename for Nintendo’s next big hardware push, which some are speculating will be a hybrid device that incorporates both handheld and console into one package. We still don’t have any concrete answers on that, but we do know that developers are starting to get their hands on software development kits, meaning the NX is closer than ever.

According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo has begun distributing the SDK kits to third-party developers in order to develop software for the new system. It’s possible we could see the introduction of the NX as early as next year, likely because of how tepid sales on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS have grown.

According to the report, Nintendo will be beefing up their hardware for the NX, due to the poor reception the Wii U got for its mediocre hardware.

They also said Nintendo would aim to put industry-leading chips in the NX devices, after criticism that the Wii U’s capabilities didn’t match those of competitors.

Analysts expect Nintendo to announce more about the NX next year. What do you think? Is 2016 too early or is Nintendo fast-tracking NX production and development to wash its hands of the Wii U as quickly as possible?
