After having admitted that releasing two new Wii U SKUs alongside each other was a mistake, Nintendo may be rectifying this mistake shortly after E3. According to reports from various GameStop employees, stores have received instructions to return all unsold 8GB Wii U Basic units to Nintendo.

“Nintendo Wii U Basic Recall – Two Week Preparation On Tuesday, 6/18, all stores will need to return all new/unopened Wii U Basic (020359). .. Stores that have 10 or more in stock will receive shipping cartons from the [distribution center]. .. All other stores will need to save shipping cartons for this recall.”

This doesn’t seem too far-fetched, since Nintendo has publicly acknowledged that the Wii U Basic SKU just isn’t selling like the company had hoped. This will likely pave the way for the 32GB deluxe model to drop in price down to $299, with a white 32GB deluxe replacing the white 8GB basic. Of course, there’s no confirmation on that but we expect Nintendo to offer a few hearty bundles this fall, perhaps with the new Mario Kart, Smash Bros., or the new 3D Mario game that will be unveiled at E3.

    you misspelled mistake.

  • Laud

I have the 8gb console, if they cancel it I demand free VC games and an invitation to E3. C:

    • Adrian

If they recall it, you will have something rare. rejoice.

      • Michael DeVore

Shush you. If they know it’ll become rare they’ll start hording and then it wont be rare.

      • They will soon recall ALL Wii U’s…

        • Cameron

Recall all of Wii U’s what?

          • Guhtere

            Wii U’s competitors?

        • gamesplayswill

Is that really what you could come up with?, no witty pun or subtle insult?

          • Guhtere

            He’s losing his touch.

        • Jeffery02

Sure. I recall my Wii U all the time. It’s difficult NOT to think about it. Or did you mean the other recall? I’m not too clear on that.

        • 150Db

Why are you still here, bro? Get a life.

        • Laud

Consoles don’t work like cars you know… Except for the Xbox 360.

        • LopsidedPasta

Your arguments are always so thought out, I love seeing your fine wit in action. I can only wish to someday have the kind of insight that you have.

          • RockGod

Funniest part is his name… Knowledge is whats up… then he says something so ridiculously uninformed. Seriously, it was so stupid I almost broke into tears laughing.

        • Clel

          Inside man? Tell us more.

        • Ace J

i knew you would show up here lol you must be a bad omen that follows negative news. lol idiot

        • NintendoNoob

Yeah, people will recall it from being “stupid” and “dumb” and put awesome and must-have in it’s place. Wii U will win and you will always lose. Go home, you are drunk

        • Jack5221

Oh look its Knowledgeiswhatsup, the guy who claims to NOT hate on any one console…

        • Selina Kyle

          I love you.

        • BLACKendTiamat

you need to be more concerned with xbox DONE newb. and quit sucking on pachters genitalia. we all know thats what you do on a daily basis. you dont even have to respond, its a given. and judging by your disqus history, you are just a confrontational person who probably hasnt gotten much love from anyone throughout his life. such a sad story, trying to fit in. obviously theyre going to put out a white 32gb wii u or whatever. a good name for you would be NOknowledgeiswhatsup.

        • RockGod

LOL! awww man thanx! I really needed a good laugh, and that was the best joke I’ve heard in a long time. good one lol

        • HypocritesRROD

          Nintendo-hater in the house.

      • Jorge Aguirre

Darn I never thought of it that way, I should of got the white Wii U.

      • CapnCrumbles436

Speaking of… I sold my Panasonic Q a few yars back for $325-350 (I can’t remember the exact price). If you are not sure what that is, look it up.

    • Steve

I’ll give you some advice: take good care of it. Then a few months after it is discontinued, sell yours on eBay for a fortune.

Then get yourself a 32 GB one. And with the extra money, buy yourself something nice 🙂

      • CapnCrumbles436

With the extra money you can pay eBay fees lol XD

    • Guhtere

Well you did get to save 50 bucks at launch. But if they do sell a white 32 GB without Nintendo Land for 300 bucks, then yeah you do deserve some kind of ambassador program. Good luck with the trip to E3 though.

    • Lusunup

I know how you feel all of us who had no other choice but to preorder a white wii u at launch deserve a little something nintendo. Please :/

    • andrewjcole

I have one too. It needs more memory.

  • Ben Ifits

Gold 32g Wii u bundled with windwaker HD. Do it Nintendo. Just please do it.

    • howling_wolf1334:[

I would like to see that… Even if is only the console without the game…

      • Game Master

I would buy that just to say I have a Wii U 64, thy can make a slot on top to play N64 games to

    • DeedsGaming .

it’s too risky, and even though Nintendo love taking hardware risks when it comes to innovation, they’ve made too many marketing mistakes so far to make another one. I’m guessing they will keep it normal.

      • wober2

It works for the 3ds where people really want the more customized individual versions. I think the cost in the hardware process once setup will not be as expensive as having different internal components like the wiiu 8gb and wiiu 32gb.

        • RockGod

I think it might happen. I just think they probably need at least a little more time for that. right now their laser focused on the games front mostly… but maybe soon you’ll see some stuff like that.

    • Jeffery02

Make it 64GB and call it the Wii U 64. 😛

    • CapnCrumbles436

That thing is going to look ugly on your entertainment center bra.

      • Ben Ifits

Gold on black? That shit will look PRISTINE! And yeah they make different versions of 3DS based on games why not the wii u for one of it’s most popular franchises? That’d sell like hot spring water!! 😀 seriously what Zelda fan WOULDN’T want a gold wii u???!!!

    • RockGod

Mind Blown! I wonder if we can transfer data from one Wii U to another Wii U.
Curious cuz if they come out with a gold Wii U w/ Zelda: WindWaker HD, I will need to be pre-ordering that the second it goes up.
Obviously i’d call Nintendo first and I already know they will recommend not buying a new system if I already own one. Ironic cuz every time my buddy called MS about his 360 they always highly recommended him to just buy a new console. Kinda puts that overall system sales into question, how many purchases were made to replace broken units instead of them simply being repaired because of high cost so might as well just get another??? hmmm

  • Ony

I wanted a white Wii U but the original pack wasn’t good enougth. I hope the new pack will seduce more peoples.

  • vGameOn

    Spelling, “mistake” wrong. That’s awesome.

  • Johny

yup… would be a smart decision.

  • DemonRoach

5mb is not enough space to simply hold game updates.

  • Johny

    RAINBOW WII U !!!!

    • MetroidZero

      Only available in San Francisco.

      Jk. 😛

  • Brett Butler

This original white console may become considerably collectable and valuable.

  • Starfoxguy

I kinda saw this coming. 8gb wasn’t enough memory to hold all the downloading we do. I know they said we can usb drives for extra memory but what do we do when they are all full?

    • Andreas Sunde

How fast do you fill a 2TB hard drive?

      • Magnus Eriksson

        Same thought. 😀

      • Not to mention can’t you now have two USB drives with data for the Wii U. Effectively giving it up to 4TB of external storage??

That is a lot of downloading.

        • RockGod

I noticed something that appeared to be an option to choose a second hard drive in the memory management part from the options menu, but I haven’t bothered with it because of my 2 TB drive being more than enough.

          • I am not certain if you can use both drives at once as I have not tried or looked it up. It may only be for data transfer.

          • RockGod

Transferable? Then if Nintendo releases a unique special edition console such as a gold Zelda console, people may be able to transfer their existing data to it?
That would be fantastic if indeed that is the case… I’m unsure of it’s purpose currently, hopefully Ninty will give us some details soon.

          • I meant from one hard drive to another on the same console.

But yes Nintendo needs to devise a method to allow users to move their IDs and data from one console to another. On top of that a way to share data across more than one console would also be welcome for those homes that may opt to have more than one to keep peace with the rest of the family members.

This will be especially true if they plan on releasing different models down the road in different colors, special editions, or with larger built in storage.

    • Brett Butler

      Face palm… SMH

    • Magnus Eriksson

How do you fill a 2-3 TB USB harddrive with downloading Wii U games?

Got a 8 GB too, but got an extern USB harddrive for it.

      • Magnus Eriksson

        Really? Dislike this comment? 😀

    • I think the same will be with the XBOX one. Those games you have to install are going to eat away at the 500GB real fast.

8GB is enough for system and game patches and many VC titles but not for many eShop titles of full games that are often 1 -8GB so far on their own. I have downloaded quite a bit since i got my Wii U and I have about 15GB free still of the system memory but I also have a 2TB hard drive attached which I think I am going to use for the bigger downloads and save the built in memory for the VC titles and system/game updates.

      • RockGod

I have all my VC and eshop games saved to my hd. Other than that just game updates & dlc, still all on my hd. For retail games I actually prefer physical copies, so i’ll never run out of room on 2TB.

    • ancientgamer

the 8 gig version was ment to be more of an ‘arcade’ version like what microsoft did with the 4 gig xbox

    • RockGod

I’m not worried about running out of memory ever with my 2TB hard drive, and I buy a lot of games.

  • Andreas Sunde

I can see a rise in sales for this unit among collectors. This might become valuable.

  • Christopher Johnson

  • Nintendo won’t bundle any of those games with the Wii U anytime soon. It might be possible, but Sony is the company more likely to bundle newer games with their consoles than Nintendo. The only bundle that Nintendo had with the Wii that had a newly released game was Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and that wasn’t until the last 12 months or so of the console’s life cycle.

The only thing different about the entry level Wii U models vs the 360 and PS3 entry models is that it is being discontinued earlier, but apart from that, there’s nothing bad about it.

  • D.M.T

Every Wii U should be 32GB or more and release more colors please.

Give gamers the opportunity to choose from a white, black, blue, gold, platinum or purple Wii U.

I don’t want Nintendo to bundle any of their Mario or Zelda games with a Wii U and Nintendo won’t do that because it’s not necessary. Those games will sell on their own without the help of the Wii U.

  • Victor O

I just purchased a White WiiU last week from Target. I don’t plan to download too many games. I’m not sure how much space I have on mine, but I also don’t mind plopping down $40 on an external hard drive. The WiiU I got was $100 less than the Deluxe model. I had no interest in NintendoLand and assorted cradles and stands. I did have interest in the black model, but that wasn’t enough to pay $100 more.

Now I also see that Target isn’t selling the 8GB model anymore. It’s taken off their online store. Maybe this will help make my white more of a collector’s model.

  • Robknoxious1

Smart move. Glad to see Nintendo taking action on this. By pulling these slower moving sku’s they can calm nervous retailers and most likely will lower the price of the 32 GB to $299 then start the advertising blitz we’ve been waiting for once the new games are shown.

  • Frankie

Why is the title rumor? This has been confirmed. Did anyone honestly believe that Nintendo would only sell a 32 GB and an 8 GB. They are probably releasing a system with more memory. Just like the 360 and PS3 did.

  • Jim Wanstall

They should do a remaster of Mario 64 , release a Red Wii U and make it a 64Gig

    • Madmagican

…like they did on DS back in ’08?

      • Maxid765

In ’04 you mean SM64 DS came out in ’04

    • CapnCrumbles436

No more remasters! They need to dedicate their teams to making new games NOW.

  • devmiles

i’m sure the standard model will now be a 32 white or black including a game for a nice price. many nintendo fans that were first in line to get a wii-u will feel fucked in the arse.. i demand a similar thing as an ambassadors program or free games. nintendo screwed up big time on the wii-u launch, exactly the same as with the 3ds..it took them a year or more to make it fair priced and with reasonable software

    • 150Db

If they lower the price by 50$ a year after you bought it, you’ll feel “fucked in the arse”? Maybe you just like to feel that way. Prices go down over time, and nobody owes you anything. You paid 50$ more to have the system earlier, and that’s well worth it.

  • DennisJKA

If Nintendo officially cuts the Wii U Premium price to the price of the Basic Pack, I demand on something like an ambassador program for early adopters. I bought the Premium Pack on launch day, because Nintendo promised to never mess up a console launch ever again after the 3DS.

    • Victor O

It’s been quite a few months. It’s hard to justify early adopters getting any benefit for this.

      • DennisJKA

Yeah, it’s been quite some time since launch. But Nintendo promised that the price will be stable for years…

        • Victor O

Did they promise a stable price?

          • DennisJKA

At least Reggie stated multiple times, that the price won’t drop for years…

          • Victor O

If that’s the case, then you they do need to offer some form of compensation, even though you cannot really trust anything a person says at the launch because nobody can predict future.

      • Gary

Fact is that many early adopters had to settle for the white 8 gig one such as myself since it was sold out everywhere in my area, if Nintendo drops the price of the 32 gig model then people who bought the 8gb model should feel outraged that the early adopter basically got the short end of the stick.

        • Victor O

I think you’re mixing issues. The demand for 32GB exceeded supply. If you wanted the 32GB, you should have waited. But instead you bought an 8GB. I’m not sure what argument you are making.

          • Gary

I meant if there’s a price drop to 299 for a 32 gb model without any of the stands/games there’s a reason to be mad. I and many others paid the same price for the same console but several months later the model we got is phased out and replaced for a better one at the same price point. Nintendo should have had the hindsight to see that the 8 gb model was basically a shitty deal compared to the deluxe and released a standard sized one and the only bonus was the accessories, if there was a replaceable hard drive such as the 360 I would have been fine with it but since I have to buy an external and can only use it on the Wii U (correct me if I’m wrong) it requires you to format it to use it as well and it also takes up space on my shelf.

          • Victor O

I agree with Denvy here. I don’t believe there’s a reason to be mad. You had the 8GB for nearly 6 months before they reduced the price of the 32GB and phased out the 8GB. This happens with iPods, iPads, computers, processors, RAM, graphics cards, shoes, cars.

          • BuckStud

You can’t use your Xbox 360 hard drive on anything else either, so what’s your point? An external hard drive for the Wii U is cheaper per GB than the MS hard drive for the 360. As for space, 1TB external hard drives are tiny. You could even put it in a drawer and run a cable to the Wii U.

        • Denvy

I wouldn’t say “had to settle”. The choice was still there to wait for a deluxe bundle.

        • BuckStud

You take that chance with everything you buy…especially electronics. I purchased the deluxe on release day, haven’t regretted it a bit, though a local store recently had a deal where you got a $80 gift card if you bought the deluxe. On top of that, it was 15% off day for card holders. I could have gotten the deluxe for $135.65 cheaper if I had waited, but I didn’t. Nintendo doesn’t own me anything as I was not forced to purchase the system on release day.

    • If that happens they may just do that. If they do remember that Nintendo is one of the few companies that would take care of their customers like this.

    • Assassinated23

I feel the 30th anniversary games for 30 cents was very similar to the ambassador program. People who buy later won’t get the amazing deals offered in this promotion. Besides, most everyone has expected for ages that when Sony and Microsoft revealed /launched their consoles the WiiU would drop in price to be in a better competitive position. Nintendo really doesn’t owe you anything.

      • Jeffery02

That’s a good point on the $0.30 games. I never thought of it like that. :3

    • 150Db

What? The extra 50$ you spent allowed you to own it for up to a year longer than anyone who buys it after the price cut. One year of gaming is worth more than 50$.

      • DennisJKA

It was released 7 months ago – thats certainly NOT a year. But I get your point, and I would agree, but Nintendo stated multiple times that there would be no price drop for years.

        • 150Db

Still, it’s selfish of you to be hostile towards something that would be good for everyone else – good for people who want a Wii U, good for Nintendo for selling more units, and good for all Wii U owners because more sales = more future games.

Even if the price for a 32G+game went down to 250$ by this Christmas, I wouldn’t feel ripped off. Owning a Wii U is worth a lot more than 10$/month. Even knowing in advance of such a future price cut, I wouldn’t have waited. I did that in past generations and regretted being such a cheap-ass that I missed out on years of gaming.

          • DennisJKA

            Ok Yeah, you’re right.
And don’t get me wrong, I never regretted buying my Wii U so early, it’s a great console and really fun to play.
Still it’s a little bit sad to see the price drop that fast…

          • RockGod

If the price drops a little when the other consoles launch right before the holidays, then that’s guaranteed to pump up the install base substantially. More console sales means more 3rd party support and more effort put into said titles.
As that Install base goes up so will the quality and quantity of games released on Wii U. Both 1st & 3rd party will shine much brighter once the console starts to sell better.

  • Seems like this is a Gamestop move and not a Nintendo Worldwide move (at least yet)

    • ancientgamer

no its a nintendo move, they will reuse the returned hardware and upgrade them to the 32 gig models to save money

      • Seems to be conflicting reports on the interwebs on this subject then.

      • Victor O

Definitely think it’s a Nintendo move. Can’t find 8GB at Target. I bought one just last week.

  • Potemkin

This has been denied by Nintendo itself.

  • wober2

They should mail everyone wiiu functional 128gb sd cards! OR make their own expandable memory that does not need an external power source. I currently have a portable drive but needed a usb “y” splitter for it to work.

    • Jeffery02

I am using a 16GB thumb drive with no problems. I have played Zombi U just fine on it. The load times are slightly longer, but otherwise it’s exactly the same. Many smaller games like Mega Man X, Mighty Switch Force, and Trine 2 all load just fine.

Also, the SD cards are only used for the Wii software and since some Wii games only support a maximum of 2GB SD cards (I’m looking at you SSBB!), anything more is not too feasible.

      • wober2

Yeah my portable 250gb drive works fine just needs that y splitter to power.I would love to throw a nintendo branded 1tb drive on there that was powered by the console.

  • Steve

Gotta buy a basic model ASAP!

Once that model is discontinued, might be worth a lot of money on eBay 🙂

  • Sami Rautio

I have my Premium 32gb WII U already and hope Nintendo Will give us their best with the Nintendo Direct 🙂 but E3 2013 is really close so i made Video about Sony and microsoft 😀 so even if you are a Nintendo Fan you could atleast tell me.. which one would be more pleasing if you could choose one those 2 consoles 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3NbxefqGsk

    • Jeffery02

I’ll let you know when the used games and backwards compatibility issues are more thoroughly explained. For now though, having a Wii U, PS3, and a PC gives me everything I need. I actually don’t see myself getting the PS4 nor the Xbox One any time soon. I am really hoping that the Wii U gets more 3rd party games because I would surprisingly prefer the Wii U to be my main console instead of these “next-gen” consoles.

      • Sami Rautio

Me too But Think about it like that if you had to choose from those two which it would be that is my question 🙂

        • audi lover

Ps4 is my choice, always had xboxs but def wont be buying this one just want decent games console not a media unit

          • Sami Rautio

Well E3 is near and Both will be showing some games to those consoles. And I still hope WII U would get more games sooner 🙂

        • Jeffery02

Probably the PS4. I have an aversion to XBox. As it stands now though, both are pretty low on my list.

          • Sami Rautio

well it’s great to hear peoples opinions 🙂

  • Leo

About time. 32GB should have always been the standard.

  • Glad they are doing this. There should have never been two versions of this at launch.

    • Jeffery02

True. They should have just made it a black model with Nintendo Land and a white model with New Super Mario Bros. U. That’s IMO though.

  • Jeffery02

I won’t be surprised if they just simply take the 8GB models, throw in a 32GB storage drive and re-release it as the new model. Recycle old parts to reduce cost. It’s what happened when they made the Wii. They reused a lot of GCN parts which is one reason why the Wii plays GCN games so well.

  • Maxwell Baumgarten

I have an 8gb, mainly because of the external drive thing, I could use that, and besides, 99% of the downloading I do on it is patches and VC. That barely takes up memory at all. I wanted the DX model for the accessories, but I’m never gonna need a stand for Wii U chat, or any of those other superfluous accessories, or NL, as i mostly play solo games.

And its not like 32 gb wont be eaten up rapidly either if you download 2-3 games. also remember 32gb flash memory works out to he about 27 gb usable. it just didnt persuade me to buy it at the time, and it was out of stock. ad whoever tells me I should have waited, I bought it in January.

    • bizzy gie

Yeah, but 27 gigs beats 3. Plus you save on more than 10 dollars on a 60 dollar game. With 50 extra dollars, you get stands, extra memory, a full game, and a black color easier to match with. If I just wanted NL alone and nothing else, I’d have to pay 10 dollars more.

      • Victor O

But in this instance, Maxwell said he did not care for the stands or accessories or NintendoLand. He’s right too. 32GB doesn’t go very far.

        • bizzy gie

But it goes goes farther than 8. Even still, it’s a terrific deal. Especially if you plan on buying NL. If not, then he could sell the game ($60) and stands ($20+) for full price. He’d make more than the 50 dollars he spent on them.

          • Victor O

NintendoLand is now $20 used from GameStop. It was also bought with a lot of WiiUs, so most people who wanted NintendoLand probably bough Deluxe, waited to buy Deluxe, or didn’t buy it separately with Basic Console or weren’t looking for it. As far as the stands and cradles, those things don’t have as much value for re-sale online. It’s like when you resell a car, the special things you added just don’t add much to value.

          • bizzy gie

I’ve seen the stands sold in standalone boxes. they retailed for $19.99 exactly at Walmart.

  • uPadWatcher

“We are unable to comment on rumour or speculation however we can confirm that Wii U Basic continues to be available in the UK.”

    Nintendo UK

  • Wanderlei

Its not a “recall’ then. A ‘recall’ is when end customers return the product for replacement due to defect or such. Its a return of stock in the supply chain.

  • DennisJKA

A NoA rep just denied the recall:
“There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware. To clarify: Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market. Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available.”

    • Starfoxguy

Aww man you beat me to the post. Saw it on IGN just a minute ago.

  • Ice Climbers

I’m sure there will be quite a few Wii U bundles come this holiday season. The Wii U will also be a year old by then, meaning that retailers will actually have killer deals on the system and the bundles for Black Friday and the rest of the holiday season. PS4 and Xbox One on the other hand will be brand new, and therefore will remain full retail price over the holiday season.

Anyways, Nintendo should release more colors and themed Wii Us. An NES themed Wii U with some VC titles preinstalled and a GamePad that has the color scheme of the NES controller would be awesome.

A white 32GB Wii U already hit Japan is going to very shortly last I heard. It is pretty obvious no one wants the 8GB, it simply isn’t worth it. Either way, it is a good call.

Nintendo just debunked this rumour…see IGN for details.

    • I think Gamestop is returning them and somehow this turned into everywhere it is being returned. But since the mad demand rush from the initial launch is over no one really wants the 8GB model anymore. I mean for $50 more you get more storage, some nice accessories and a game valued at $60 so it is a no brainer which model people are going to choose.

Well this is the best thing Nintendo can do, they can either re-box this, or they can increase the hard drive size and give two different premium color options. It’s the easiest way to save money. I wonder what Nintendo have in store for the feature of the Wii U.

I have a 8g white Wii U. I got tired of looking for the 32g (They were sold out everywhere) so I just said F-it and bought the 8g version. Honestly, I wont be upset if they drop the price on the 32g from 350 to 300. I bought mine at launch so that is the price I pay. Plus I got a nice deal at Fry’s, 3 games (Sonic racing, Nintendoland, ZombiU) All for 60$. AND I’ve been getting some awesome VC titles at discounted prices. If the 8g version suddenly becomes collectible after this then I’ll be extra happy. Regardless of what happens, Im not expecting any ambassador program. I got what I wanted, so for that Im happy.

    • If a price drop happens the only people that really have a right to be upset are the ones that bought it less than 14-30 days before the price drop as that is typical policy offered by retailers on price matches/guarantees.

I am not sure why people that bought something months ago feel like they are getting the shaft if something goes down in price or on sale months later. No other product that I am aware makes any of these extended guarantees.

NOTE: My comment is in agreement with yours just so you know I was just adding my 2 cents

No worries, your $0.02 is always appreciated. 🙂

  • CapnCrumbles436

Yep, learned my lesson with the DS and 3DS. Almost without fail, if you wait 9-12 months the hardware gets both a price drop AND an upgrade.

We dont need to worry about this. This rumor is way too old. They need to update this article.
Nintendo of America senior director of corporate communications Charlie Scibetta provided the following statement to IGN:
“There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware. To clarify: Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market. Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available.”

Okay this is totally off subject, but I just checked my e-nail after a week of not checking it, and EA sent me an E-mail announcing Need for Speed Rivals, knowing I signed up for origin on my Wii U. Also, while knowing that the game was not coming out on Wii U. It redirected me to a reveal trailer, and I watched it. After the video I checked the platforms it was going to be on, knowing it was not coming out on Wii U, and I was shocked. It is coming out on Wii. EA is really trying to get at us because they will release the game on last-gen tech, knowing that the other installments of NFS may not have sold as well as Most Wanted did on Wii U, the Wii U actually had a little bit of hype, but they won’t release it on a new, next-gen console because it ” can’t handle it. I’ve seen the engine in the trailer, and it looked like NFS Most Wanted with a slight graphics boost. The Most Wanted engine worked perfectly fine on the Wii U, so if they say the Wii U can’t handle the Rivals engine, they must be complete idiots, which they are. I’m done with EA this year. I’ll wait for the time in which they see X1 fail and cry to Nintendo, asking them to forgive them.

    • Do you have links to that information. They only show PC, XBOX 360, and PS3 on their site. I got the same email and saw nothing related to Nintendo in the information for this game

The 8GB Wii U wasn’t truly 8GB…look what happened after I downloaded the “Day 1” Update. I ended up with like 3GB of space.

    • You do realize the whole day 1 update being 5GB has been proven false right>

Yes some of the total storage is used by the OS and patches just like any smartphone, tablet, or computer with a hard drive. They all give you the total space including space taken up by the OS and preinstalled software. This should be expected on any device as it has been this way for many years so this is not new.

But I think you are right that the OS and other software can take up to 5GB of space.

Their not recalling the system at all, source…

People just jumped the gun a bit.

  • bugart19

I wonder what will become of current Wii U 8gig owners if this happens? I guess maybe they will get some kind of exclusive discount or rebate.

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

IMO because Wii U isn’t selling as well as expected, I bet they (Nintendo) will reveal another white Wii U with at least 64GB storage to replace the 8GB, so when Nintendo reveal and release their inevitably awesome titles at and post E3, people will reassured to have enough save data on the consoles.
