If you won’t be attending E3 this year, don’t worry, you’ll still have a chance to play the games that many who attend the show floor will see. At the end of today’s Nintendo Direct, Reggie Fils-Aime announced that Nintendo was partnering with Best Buy to have unreleased Nintendo games available for play across 100 stores in America. There are no details on where these stores will be located, but we expect a decent spread in order to allow more people to play them.

Will you be heading to a Best Buy during the week to play these games? Let us know in the comments below!

This was a huge deal. I think many people tuned out by this time and didn’t catch this part. Not only can we possibly be playing WW HD or new Mario 3D, but this also means hopefully, Best Buy will be advertising the Wii U like crazy. Smart Move Nintendo,,,

    • incoherent1

Combined with the Nintendo Direct(s) near E3, being able to play games at Best Buy is brilliant. They’re skipping the middle man (the trade shows and journalists) and going right after the average consumer: “Want to know what the next gen of video games will be like? Come play them at Best Buy! Want more news on what’s next? Tune into our live stream.”

Reading an article about what happened at some trade show hundreds of miles away is soooo 1990’s and early 2000’s. 🙂

      • cardmeister

Your point about the Best Buy support is important! Very smart, indeed.

      • MasonBerhenke

Well even though they’re giving direct access to the consumers, people will still read the journalist reviews simply to get more input. It’s really a win-win for everyone in the end including the “middle man.” Overall I like it!

    • RockieOllie

Hopefully the Best Buy Kiosk will be for people who don’t own a WiiU and WiiU owners will get to experience the E3 Demos via eShop

      • DragonSilths

        That would be great!!!

  • Preston

Not me, I’m in South Africa where gamers are neglected on a regular basis regardless of the massive gaming community we have here

    • Zuxs13

Well E3 is held here so that would be part of it and North America has over 250 million gamers. But it does suck you get shafted.

    • incoherent1

It does suck for the huge community of gamers down under (I hear from friends in both South Africa and Australia that they’re regularly ignored).

The only silver lining I can offer is that it at least looks like Nintendo is moving in the right direction. Last year you had to be on a showroom floor to try upcoming games, now you can be at any Best Buy in US/Canada…

I’m hoping Nintendo keeps this momentum going and maybe next year they could release free demos of all upcoming games via the eShop around E3. That way, if you have a Wii U, you’re set, or theoretically any retailer could download the demos onto a display unit to let potential customers try it out.

  • Game Master

I guess I know what I’m doing that week before E3 comes on

  • Super Buu

I honestly think this was the best news of the whole show. As a Canadian gamer, whose too poor to go to LA, being able to play those unreleased game at a local Best Buy is a fantastic thing. Smart move, Nintendo.

    • I did not read about Canada being in on this. Canada is under the rule of London, so you may have to wait for their Nintendo news.

      • tronic307

        Trolling a whole country, now?

        • You are one of the biggest trolls on here are you troll me non-stop.

          • jay

And you trolll EVERYONE here non-stop. Seems fair eh?

      • The Clockwork Being

28:06. Don’t speak out of your ass. Listen to Nintendo Directs North America which includes Canada and the U.S. Try being more informed before trolling.

        • I did not watch it, but i’ll take your word for it. Canada is still under the command of the UK. Follow the money…

          • jay

            Didn’t Watch It……..

            Trolls It Anyways.

    • @google-605c01b76306fd6f98bfaf3054479089:disqus

Hey I didn’t know Canada was under the rule of London? Not British Rule but London rule. That’s interesting…. I always thought that Canada was an independent country. Apparently not and it must be true because a person that knows everything said it was.

Also Nintendo has a Facebook Contest where you can enter to win a trip to LA and E3

And that is open to Canada despite them being under London Rule!

  • Of course they closed down all the Best Buy’s a few months ago where I live…

    • While this is great for Nintendo fans, this benefits Best Buy more than Nintendo. They’re hoping while you’re there you’ll buy a Wii U or a new TV from them.

      • cardmeister

And I sincerely hope people do buy a new TV from them. A strong retail partnership is critical for Wii U, right now.

In contrast, if this is poorly executed and Best Buy is flooded by fans who create a crowd-control nightmare it could leave a sour taste in the retail giant’s mouth…. I have retail management experience, and I can tell you… this could turn into an absolute zoo if Nintendo does not provide proper resources in terms of man-power and coordination.

Thankfully, public events aren’t a foreign concept to Nintendo thanks to their “Nintendo Experience” exploits. 🙂

        • This is very true. I hope it’s handled well and I hope it gives Best Buy the door traffic they’re seeking from it. They’ve been trying to combat showrooming and this might just be the way to do it if they can get other game publishers on board with something similar.

Best Buy could become more valid than GameStop.

          • Trust me, this won’t increase Best Buy’s traffic!

          • Clel

            *deep voice mode on*

I don’t take orders from nobody.

          • tronic307

…Unless the E3 demos are playable!

        • tronic307

Yeah, but they knock you off the machine after like 3 minutes, and you have to go to the back of the line. Still, for E3 demos I’m there!

          • DragonSilths

Get there at opening when nobodys there. people eill be at work on weekdays, or kids in school finish up the year. IF my BestBuy does this im in a slightly small city where its alot of Xbox baboons I could be the only Nintendo gamer there all day.

        • Magnus Eriksson

What do you base “could turn into an absolute zoo” and “fans who create a crowd-control nightmare ” on? Clearly this wont happen so no worry. Everyone who tought Nintendo Wii U where interesting bought one already. People dont want this anymore. And yesterdays Nintendo Direct even made it more uninteresting. One new game was shown, else it was old stories about things supposed to be here at launch. Nothing new and nothing of interest.

      • I was in Best Buy the other day to get my nephew some Pokemon game for his 3DS and there was a small crowd around the Wii U station and they had no deluxe systems in stock. The game selection section was decent too with even a few empty slots. The salesperson said they cut back ordering but it has been selling steadily.

This system just needs a little more time and hopefully promoting it this way will raise awareness as I think some think it is NOT a new system and just some add on to the original Wii.

        • Man, you must live in Billy Bob land if a Bst Buy where you are at had a crowd around it! Every store I go into the Wii U does not exist to customers. TV displays get more crowds.

          • Ace J

            stop lieing lol

          • tronic307

If Nintendo’s E3 demos are playable at Best Buy, it will be PACKED!

          • jay

Thats what them troll shades do to ya Bro!!

You probably see people crowded around Super-Playstation-All-Stars-Batle-Smash-Royale-Bros. huh?

          • david jarman

That’s funny. I live in Orlando, fl. EA sports is here. Our best buys have great traffic and wii u stations. Maybe, its you who lives in a desolate area that you’re that behind. We have bugattis, Lamborghini, Ferraris and all sorts of other super cars. We have huge malls and the awesome wii u!

  • cardmeister

    Well played, Nintendo… well, played.

I hoped they had something up their sleeve.. this definitely counts.

As a developer, I got the opportunity to attend the E3 in which the Wii was first playable. All doubt in the Wii’s new controls were immediately gone. The lines literally circled the show room floor. They *actually* had to turn people away from the line within the first half of the day because there was no way people joining the queue at that point would make it to the booth before the showroom closed. The Sony PS3 booth (which the Wii line passed by) was an absolute ghost town.

The point of that little anecdote (besides the nostalgia) is not to highlight the success of the Wii (we all know that story), but to highlight the importance of experiencing Nintendo innovation. I own a Wii U and, although seldom played (like all of my systems recently), playing it makes a huge difference. I bought it on faith and out of technical curiosity. It did not disappoint. The offerings (or lack thereof) that followed did disappoint. No content means no in-store demos which means no hands-on experiences.

The idea of bringing the E3 experience to a retail store is very, very smart. If this becomes a guided experience (which I’d imagine it needs to be) with experts on hand to educate the visitors, this is going to go a long way towards the Wii U awareness issue.

It still needs to be executed properly though. Each store must be a miniature E3 booth experience for the commoner. Please execute it right, Nintendo. Please.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Its more a desperate klinging to a last hope than a trick up the sleeves. Just that they uses Nintendo direct to tell about marketing plans sound strange. They should just do it and stop talking about doing it.

      • david jarman

You’re upset when they don’t do anything and you’re upset when they do. The dumbest move would be to tell nobody before doing it. It’s called building a hype. This is why people are calling you a troll. When nintendo does something positive you slam it in our face and go for the insults like saying they’re desperate.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Dont you guys read the news? Everybody, except you, is very clear on the fact that Wii U have failed. Yesterdays Direct should have brought this to clearity even for you, but you are just unable to see whats going on. How many times did Nintendo announce Pikmin 3 and W101? 5 times? 10 times?
They should announce new titles, like “Hey, we are working on a Metroid” or “you will soon see Smash Bros” not “Hey we are working on Pikmin” and “You will soon see W101”. This is recycled things from their B-sortiment. This is not A-stuff from Nintendo.
But you guys get hyped up from an update that will fix slow loading times (spring update) and an announcement that Nintendo will make commercial in this or that place. That is, pardon my french, ridiculous.

          • david jarman

No, because I paid attention to when they said this was going to be a soft launch before they launched the wii u. The media is there to crap on anybody. Be if you’d actually paid attention to those that matter most and not the bias people that only care about graphics. They didn’t failed to me cause their bringing games and I know how nintendo works just like a lot of people. Do you know how many times Sony and Microsoft delayed games? Countless of times! That signify failure by any means. Ps3 had a drought its first FULL year did it fail? Xbox had nothing that showed off the system for 1 year as well did it fail too? No! You want this console to fail so you’re so focus on it failing. Apparently I pay better attention to launches the you do.
And what this guy is saying from ea who never took time to develope and learn the architecture of the wii u says something it makes it true. I’ve post enough articles that a real developers who have ACTUALLY made games state that it is more powerful then the other two consoles. I.e, Crytek and criterion!
You were only looking for something to fuel your hate and this was it.Experienced developers trump douche’ bag! Not to mention this is lawsuit! waiting to happen! The key word is defamation. That’s why it was pulled from tweeter.

          • david jarman

I’m sorry but until you’ve seen the games and played them you have no right to say if they are a or b catagory. Just because they’re not halo, or uncharted. I play great games not games everybody flocks to! Here’s the thing. You don’t like the system yet you bought one cause you “wanted” to like the system, but you don’t stop there. You get on a website where people who do like the system and chant doom and try to get them to see your view and feel the same as you. Not only are you wasting our time, but yours as well. Stop being moronic. Leave if you don’t like it here. We are not going stop loving nintendo for we bought the console to play those lovely nintendo games.

      • So giving a people a heads up that future games will be demo’d and possibly playable at Best Buy is not a good thing? You mean they should just do it and not tell anyone?? Yeah that makes sense.

I suppose Microsoft and Sony should not even go to E3 then because all they are going to do is talk about what may come. They should just do it already and not talk about it right?

  • derty

I will for sure b going to best buy to play these haha. Ill take the day off and stay all day lol.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

what about europe, more specifacilly what about sweden. Does these games come here too

    • Since it was Reggie who delivered the news, I’m pretty sure this is a Nintendo of America exclusive.

      • MujuraNoKamen

I hope not, I live in Europe so I hope it they go worldwide. Anyway, I reckon they’ll do something similar in Europe, when the first Wii U demo stations were first announced they were only confirmed for NA then here the UK most game stores near me had one. They’d be crazy not to do this outside of NA, it’s a great way to advertise Wii U and show off some fantastic games too. fingers crossed, let’s hope WW HD has a demo soon enough 🙂

    • Clel

He said Best Buys in Canada and the U.S. So that means Europe will remain untouched, as well as Central America and the rest of the world.

It sucks that France doesn’t have any Best Buys.

  • kinghenroc187

    smart move nintendo

  • JVAN63

Only 100 stores? So each state gets 2, or really big states get 4 or five and smaller states get none.

    • shaun

remember canada is part of the 100 stores

  • This was a BRILLIANT business move. Especially if they put smash on display… *drools*

  • Leo

Hopefully they will have Wind Waker HD and Yarn Yoshi on display.

    • JVAN63

So, 1-2 per state or province, possibly less, since I can’t see places like New York or California only getting this in 1-2 stores for the entire state. Meh. I don’t live near one of the top 100 population centers for N. America. Good for Nintendo, but I don’t think I’ll see this unless BB significantly expands the number of stores.

      • stratisifre

well, i live near a ton of bestbuys apparently (just google mapped it) so i think im safe when it comes to being able to try these games. i just really really hope it’s the one closest to me lol. dont really want to drive out to east jesus nowhere to play some wii u games for a bit lol. really wish they were releasing the demos on the eshop too

  • Frank

This makes the YouTube incident seem forgivable, now if they deal with LP using their content, I’ll see full forgiveness

    • Gabe Hoffman

Nintendo I don’t think has anything against LPs. If they really were against LPs they would have ordered the videos taken down and the users blocked

      • Frank

True. And JoshJepson and Slimkirby have dealt with that pretty well; they’re saying O.K. with it and that means they do it for people not the money. Oh and SCREW EA!!! You may not be the worst company of America (bank of America crimes are well worse) , but you’re the worst GAMING company to date.

        • Gabe Hoffman

          What about Chugga?

          • Frank

I don’t think he replied yet. Give me a second

          • Frank

He said he’s a bit annoyed, but will continue his LPs regardless and acknowledges and will talk about it later

          • Gabe Hoffman

That’s good to know he will keep doing LPs. I didn’t think it would affect him much anyway since I don’t think he does his LPs for profit

          • Frank

I also spoke to NCS and the only thing he’s miffed about is that them and Nintendo were friends about it. Other than that, he’s cool.

          • Gabe Hoffman

Who is NCS so he will keep doing LPs too?

          • stratisifre

nintendocaprisun? you haven’t watched an lp till you’ve seen his videos lol

  • Teves153

wait this is only in america right?

    • Anthony K Aurelia

      and Canada

      • Teves153

(Sigh) looks like ill be watching people playing them instead of me………………. DAMN IT!!!!!

  • If Smash and Mario Kart become playable at Best Buy, I’m moving to Best Buy.

    • jay

      Need a Roomie?

  • Gabe Hoffman

    Excellent decision for marketing

  • DragonSilths

My Bestbuy is run by Xbox Fanboys. They still dont have the Wii U Demo station up. I asked before the Wii U came out why their Demo wasnt up. The employee said “Nintendo? You can’t be serious.” So im going to miss out on playing 3D Mario, Mario Kart U, Windwaker Reborn, maybe Smash Bros…damn that would have done great for my youtube channel.

    • Mochlum

They must not like making more money.

    • MujuraNoKamen

      What a Dick-wad!!!

  • Russel Bowersox

MAN, I wish they would put together huge press conference at E3 rather then let us play their games early.

    Said nobody ever.

  • Lusunup

I live next to Nintendo of America (redmond,WA) no worrys for me seeing or playing the demos 😀

  • Maybe

  • MujuraNoKamen

How about getting these demo stations in Europe as well. We’ve got a few here in the UK but they’re old ones that mainly show videos, I think Mario Bros and Rayman are the only playable games we’ve got. Please give us this in Europe, not only is this great for fans, it will also publicise Wii U and show off some fantastic games to the public, seriously if I can play Metroid, 3D Mario, Kart, Wind Waker, Bayonetta, Pokemon, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell etc in a few weeks I’ll be a very happy man and probably end up living in the shopping centre…

  • C.S. Bailey

Pretty sure a store in Austin, Tx will have it, they did a Wii U event there before launch.

  • Elem187

I really hope a best buy near me has it… I need to play the next 3D mario, yesterday!

  • andré

cant wait to se what they do with the new mario 3d game.
