[UPDATE: Today Nintendo of America confirmed that this update will be available in North America on August 27, the same date as Japan and Europe.]

With Mario Kart 8 firmly in the hands of nearly 3 million players across the globe for two months now, Nintendo has announced a huge update for the game that will be hitting later this month. One of the perks of this update is the free Mercedes DLC pack that debuted in Japan through a partnership with Mercedes to advertise the Mercedes GLA.

Aside from this bonus material, the update will also include an optional on-screen map on the TV, which is something gamers have been asking for since before the game released. Other highlights of this update include the standard option for after a race concludes to be on the next race button, rather than view highlights. Here’s a quick changelog:

  • Scoreboard area can be selected so you can view your total coins, online record of wins and losses, selection of characters, and so on.
  • Online communication and races will have improved stability.
  • Other minor fixes to problems.

This update has been scheduled in Europe and Japan for August 27, though no date has been set for North America yet. We’ll keep you updated once Nintendo releases the schedule for North America.

Why bother updating the game? Just release it on PS4 already, so it will be realistic and have better graphics. Then again Nintedont can’t think straight,

    • therealruben1

Don’t you have anything better to do?Oh wait…

      • PorkNBeans73

No because PS4 doesn’t have enough games released to keep him occupied, can’t blame him for wanting Mario Kart 8 cause then he would have something worth playing on the PS4 that can’t be played elsewhere.

        • SolarShane13

“Not enough games” Is that why it’s outselling Wii U and Xbox One?

Oh, BTW, that’s bullshit! PS4 has 289 games with nearly half already released. 27 are Sony Exclusives. Not enough games? Yeah, right!

          • KartSmash

            Name 6 great ones

          • SolarShane13

The fact you had to ask that makes me believe your a Nintendo fan boy who can’t see beyond what Nintendo offers. Games are Game are Games….. Just because those aren’t fun to you, doesn’t mean they’re not fun to someone else. What was the saying? “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”.

Name 6 great Wii U games. Though one, right?

          • 6 outstanding Wii U titles. Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, New Super Mario Bros. U, ZombiU. Oops did I list seven? Sorry…

          • SolarShane13

            My take on your list:

Super Mario 3D World: Though a fun game, it’s 3D Land re-imagined for the Wii U, and I don’t mind that at all. (re-imagined meaning like Battlestar Galactica)

            Pikmin 3: Agreed.

Mario Kart 8: Agree and don’t. (Item system, Battle Mode courses) However, with the upcoming patch, it will be an even awesome-er game.

Wind Waker HD: Not into the Zelda series, but I have no qualms with people who like/play it.

Tropical Freeze: I’ll have to pick it up eventually; it’s just not a top priority game.

Mario Bros U: Agree, however, this was not the Mario game to launch with. 3D World would have been the better game to launch with. Mario Bros 2 just launched Nintendo! (This would have been a great “drought relief” game as well.)

ZombiU: Not really interested in third party. My gaming selection is picky.

            Seven? That’s alright πŸ™‚

          • Woop! I agree the Wii U needed 3D World at launch. I think you should get into the Zelda series, it’s awesome. ZombiU, it seems pretty cool to me. I have yet to pick up DKCTF myself so that’s something I gotta get.

          • Jonathan Robitaille

I agree that SM3DW was an HD 3D Land on steroids. It was great though. Would have been perfect if the bosses weren’t so fricken easy. Huge flaw imho.

Please try WWHD. I had tried Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword and wasn’t a fan either. Wind Waker is just a masterpiece man.

Also, Lego City Undercover is supposed to be great

The Wonderful 101 is a blast if you can get through the rather difficult learning curve (which I am attempting now)

so there’s two more must own games. That’s pretty impressive considering they are of such high quality and can’t be played anywhere else

          • Did you just delete your comment about the PS4 being multimedia?

          • Nerd PR

            Can you answer the question?

          • SolarShane13

            I did. Two posts down.

          • KartSmash

Actually I have a ps3 and my roomate has a ps4 and he has knack and infamous. he plays cod ghosts but I don’t consider that a good game but even if you did that’s three. Name 3 more. Tomb raider remake I guess you can count but it’s a cop-out just like the gta 5 remake and the last of us remake. And six Wii U games, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, DK Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, Darksiders 2, Injustice Gods Among Us, Lego City Undercover, Mario Kart 8, Need for Speed, Sonic Racing All Stars Transformed, for starters. I would say Wind Waker but that’s a remake so I gotta stick to what I said. I’m not a fanboy, I just literally can’t think of any other good games on ps4 that are out right now. Coming out there are good ones, but right now, no. There’s a reason my roomate is on his ps3 instead of his ps4 at the moment playing all the games he has on there to finish and even just went back and finally finishes skyward sword. I didn’t even say ps4 was a bad system.

          • SolarShane13

To be fair, Sonic, Rayman and Need for Speed Most Wanted are multiplatform, so those don’t count.

However, I do agree with MK8, 3D World (though it’s 3D Land on steroids, it’s a fun game), and Pikmin 3. I’m picky about gaming thus not really into third party so I don’t count the third party games you have listed. I won’t contest you though if you say they’re great πŸ˜‰

          • Gregg

No, it’s outselling because kids are sheep, and uneducated.

          • SolarShane13

Then I guess Wii sold 100 million thanks to the uneducated kids.

The reason the PS4 is outselling Xbox One and Wii U is because not only does it game, it does multimedia. Sure the Wii U can hook up to internet services, but not everyone has super stable/fast internet. There’s a reason the other two sell: you can actually watch Blu-Ray movies.

          • Gregg

Lol. I buy game systems to play games. Incan watch BD on a $30 box from walmart. (Or my 2 PS3)
Sent from my totally awesome I-Pad

          • – (SolarShane13’s comment) “Sure the Wii U can hook up to internet services, but not everyone has super stable/fast internet.”

            1. What the fuck does that even mean?

            – (SolarShane13’s comment) “The reason the PS4 is outselling Xbox One and Wii U is because not only does it game, it does multimedia.”

            1. Is this a fucking joke? Like seriously? One of the biggest reasons people got pissed at Microsoft was because their Xbox One reveal only showed “Sports, TV, Sports!” Along with entertainment apps.

NHL and many, many, many more. Fuck. Why do you make me do this?

          • SolarShane13

            1) You need a stable and/or fast internet service to have a decent viewing experience with streaming services.

            2) Um, no! I guess you don’t remember the Always On requirement, the DRM, and the required Kinect. Those were people’s bigest complaints.

          • – (SolarShane13’s comment) “Um, no! I guess you don’t remember the Always On requirement, the DRM, and the required Kinect. Those were people’s bigest complaints.”

            1. That’s not the main point I’m trying to make. The point was that the Xbox One has a lot of fucking apps. Period.

          • You can watch Blu-Ray movies on Xbox One too so…

          • SolarShane13

True. However, look at Microsoft’s history regarding the XOne.

          • What exactly does that mean?

          • SolarShane13

Don’t tell me you’ve been in the dark. Microsoft, though it was listening to customers complaints, did numerous flip flops regarding the Xbox One. (DRM, Kinect, Always On, etc)

          • Yeah…but they correct ALL that stuff. Period.

          • Jonathan Robitaille

“Then I guess Wii sold 100 million thanks to the uneducated kids.”

Actually it was the casual grandma or adults who liked it as a party activity. It worked wonders. But about 2/3 of those people probably hadn’t played a video game since Atari and haven’t since unless you count Candy Crush. The PS4 launch was just a masterful piece of marketing. It wasn’t hard to convince people to buy the most powerful console. That fixed the single biggest drawback of the PS3…the controller, and that had a great stable of exclusives 2nd only to Nintendo.

I don’t think only sheep bought it. But there really aren’t any games for it. People bought it on hype and the promise it holds. Come Holiday 2015 it will be a MUST own for any gamer. I have to talk myself out of buying one every day because I want to play TLOU so bad and Destiny is around the corner

          • The PS4 is out-selling the Wii U and Xbox One for one reason. Misconception.

            – The 1080p argument.

            1. Infamous: Second Son and Killzone Shadowfall are NOT 1080p.

            2. It doesn’t matter! You can’t tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. ESPECIALLY if you’re console gaming from a big TV screen at a moderate distance.

            3. The Xbox One has the ONLY 60fps & 1080p exclusive between the two. That game being Forza Motorsport 5.

            4. STILL it doesn’t matter! “You can’t tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. ESPECIALLY if you’re console gaming from a big TV screen at a moderate distance.”

            – (SolarShane13’s comment) “Oh, BTW, that’s bullshit! PS4 has 289 games with nearly half already released. 27 are Sony Exclusives. Not enough games? Yeah, right!”

            1. The Xbox One has 33 exclusives, plus we haven’t really seen the major titles yet. Games like Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Halo 5: Guardians, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Those are the ones I can name off the top of my head. And don’t forget the ID@Xbox program either.

            2. The Wii U has so many exclusives I literally can’t even give a precise number. And don’t forget, Super Smash Bros. 4, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Party 10, The Legend of Zelda 2015, Yoshi’s Woolly World, Kirby & The Rainbow Curse, and Devil’s Third haven’t even come out yet.

            – (SolarShane13’s comment) “Then I guess Wii sold 100 million thanks to uneducated kids.”

            1. Not quite. If anything the PS3 and 360 sold however many because uneducated kids, here’s why. The PS3 and 360 are PC mockups. Plain and simple. You couldn’t argue exclusives because PC has those too. PC at the time had better graphics (like WAY better). Chances are most of the “little kids” flocking to the 360 and PS3 didn’t want them because they understood the consoles value in it’s exclusives.

That isn’t what they did though….

          • AM Real

Yes, asking for Nintendo games to be released on a competitor’s platform while Nintendo is still fully operational and has a current gen console on the market AND you’re commenting on a NINTENDO WII U fan site, is blatant trolling

it’s always good to know who the boards trolls are. You just look at not only who makes the comment but who upvotes it.

While they’re at it, they might as well release it on the Sega and Atari. Haha… oh wait.

Brilliant! Don’t forget Xbox One and Android.

  • RyuNoHadouken

Should have been released last month

    • PorkNBeans73

Seriously, Is there more to this than the Mercedes? If not then this should’ve been released long ago.

      • Phoenix Maybe

Well there are a few minor fixes (like making “next race” the default selection after a race instead of “view highlights”), but basically it’s just a Mercedes update.

        • Jon

and the map update, stuff added to the Mario Kart TV and online stability fixes Plus a scoreboard that will allow you to view stats such as view number of characters that win-loss total number of coins, online play, etc.

          • PorkNBeans73

It should’ve been released long ago.

I try to pride myself on not being a fanboy of any system, I will say I am fair to them all but I’m kind of partial to Nintendo (I have a small place in my heart for them, always will) but I would be blind and stupid not to complain about how they handle their online infrastructure and all that it entails. It’s the one part of owning their systems that drives me insane, I had really high hopes for them with the Wii U in getting this working right & to be fair they made huge leaps compared to what it was & they’re going int he right direction but things like this when it could’ve and should’ve been released long ago just make me look at them like they’re still 10 years behind.

I really, really REALLY hope they step their game up on their next console especially in the online department the secondly on their hardware. Make no mistake about it, I love my Nintendo consoles but they could do with adding some real good power to their next console. It would only benefit them and us to do this.

          • Jon

lol. Sorry but on that “It should’ve been released long ago.”

            Tell me something.
Have you ever worked on this game?
Have you every worked on a video game?
Do you know how long it takes to program things and to test them and test them again to make sure it will not break the game or damage a system in any way?

if your answer is no to any of these then you shouldn’t really say that because there are tons of things that could happen when doing updates especially when we were never told these were going to come aside from the DLC. Stuff takes time, If you look at everyone across the board, you don’t seem them punching out updates to solve all the world of problems things have. Honestly, I’d say they did a pretty good job for getting these updates to us in 2 and a half to 3 months.

Though I do agree with you on that they have to step up their game in the console world.

          • PorkNBeans73

@Jon Yes, actually I do know about programming games & not to get into the argument on that end I will simply say this if it was already released in Japan there is no reason it should’ve taken this long, I don’t get what the delay is about. IF this was a third party title it has to go through other stages such as quality testing and certification but this is first party so those delays are not there & this has already been done IF this was already released in Japan.

@CEOBrainz I was talking about how far behind they are in terms of their online infrastructure. They are way behind, 10 years might seem harsh but it is about that far behind.

When I said more power I meant more advanced tech than what they have been known to do, they tend to settle on something much lower in the spec department instead of adding that extra power that they know they can do. I’m not saying go with the latest greatest hardware but really push the envelope a little more than what they traditionally do and make the other 2 gaming companies sweat their balls off. It honestly seems like Nintendo builds their hardware around their first party titles which is not entirely a bad thing because that’s a big factor in why I buy their console but I want to buy that third party title and play it on the Nintendo system every once and awhile. I still buy all 3 systems but for their first party titles and then whichever system has the best specs determines the outcome of my third party title purchases simply because I want the best experience for my $60 game purchases.

          • Jon

so wait… you are saying because this is a first party title, it doesn’t have to go through those quality testing stages? I’m sorry but you just lost all credibility there and I don’t see why I or anyone should believe you when you said you did programming unless the programming was a piece of glitchy garbage. Also, you should know by now that Japan gets everything earlier except on special occasions. Japan only got the DLC early, not the update.

          • PorkNBeans73

No Jon, I’m saying because it is a first party title they don’t have the delay of third party titles where they go through quality assurance and certification on their end then Nintendo’s end. When it is first party title it goes through one array of those tests not numerous entities.

          • Jonathan Robitaille

I think they build their hardware to be just good enough to allow for a step up in graphics/gameplay for their games at the absolute cheapest price they can get. Their money is made in software and this strategy can work provided just enough people buy the system in order to buy Nintendo games.

Since Sony and Microsoft for the most part make their money on hardware sales they have to address that more. I would not be surprised if Sony (who claims they already are profitable on each console sold) does a price cut a year before Microsoft. Them dropping to $350 for this Holiday season would result in total domination of this gen. Xbox just could not do likewise I don’t think.

I hope Nintendo lowers to $199. They need to really do something drastic to get their install base up. Selling at a loss on each console won’t matter as they can make it up with software…especially on the digital side.

          • CEObrainz

Having more power in their next console is a given, to think otherwise is certainly weird. However Sony and Microsoft has a generation more experience in terms of patches, online and HD.

I will say that you’re over exaggerating a bit, I know Nintendo are behind in some areas but they have more experience producing games then most, it’s why their titles are rated the best in the world.

In terms of HD games, we can see that Nintendo are trying to catch up as quickly as possible, I mean look at quality of games from the release of the Wii U till now….there certainly is improvement and Nintendo are insistent on doing things their own way.

          • Jonathan Robitaille

the truth is they are behind these last two gens and it isn’t just in hardware. It’s been a day late and a dollar short. HD, online, VC, Ammibo and they are a little behind.

How this happened is beyond me. The Wii did local co-op so well. They nailed it and in many ways led. But Xbox showed what online could be years ago. Yet they still don’t get it at Nintendo. They get offered Skylanders and decline. Then years later and maybe too late they will try their own with Amiibo. HD has been the standard for several years but it took them until Wii U to offer their first HD game. And that leap to them by surprise? Really? They didn’t look outside their bubble at what everyone else was doing? I just don’t get how they still employ Iwata after all these failures. I’ll give him the DS, but that’s it. He went along for the wii fad and has spearheaded the rest of their decline.

But I did just buy 2K shares at 13.5 because a) it trades in a range and this is towards it’s low b) the next 18 months will be pretty good for them so I obviously feel like these things can be fixed or might be already addressed

  • therealruben1

      Can’t say no to that!

  • thedeciderU

this is awesome, now hopefully they can add in a timer?

Now they just need to allow 2-player to occur with 1 on the tv and the other on the gamepad.

    • paddle008

This gives the GamePad player a screen looking advantage.

      • Fred

So give the gamepad to the guy that needs a handicap. We played sonic racing transformed this way and absolutely loved it. Split screen sucks

    • I KNOW!!

  • Hikingguy

At least Nintendo is listening. These were two complaints now fixed that I had with the game. Now I want just a little wider view of the track and the second player on the Gamepad, not split screen.

  • Christian Schoff

I’d have liked to see asymmetrical gameplay for multiplayer.

  • bistricky

A scoreboard …. and DLC …. and quick jump to next game … sound very good.
Nothing said about fire-hopping. That is okay too.

    • Michael DeVore

It might be under “Other Minor fixes to problems”

      • Josiah Parsons

I hope the “minor fixes” include the huge lag on the character selection screen.

    • rp17

Are you saying you want to get rid of firehopping? Because I would defiantly stop playing MK8 if they got rid of it. The game would become too slow especially on straightaways. Some people say it adds a skill gap, but it really isn’t that hard to learn. And besides with the awful item balance, it doesn’t make much difference online.

      • bistricky

No I am not saying to get rid of fire-hopping. To me, it doesn’t matter if they do patch it away or not. But if it stays forever, that is great (and what I prefer).
Thus “nothing said about fire-hopping. That is okay too.”

        • rp17

Cool. It just seemed like you were disappointed or something. I just get annoyed about people that hate optional things. Like those people that started a petition to get rid of For Glory mode in Smash… Those guys are the worst.

          • Michael Legault

That is lame, I’m going to rock the hell out of for glory mode lol

          • rp17

See you there. I hope you can play stock battles online… I really only like stock…

        What’s fire hoping?

        • rp17

If you hop back and forth after a boost you go slightly faster. You wanna do this uphill, but not downhill.

          • Fred

I’ve never heard of this. Thanks I’ll have to see if I can figure it out.

      • bcmugger

said the guy that sucks at racing normally.

  • Jay D Alvarado

Party groups with ingame voice chat would be nice!!!! Cmon nintendo!!!!

  • Rinslowe

Throw in a few new tracks, cheers Ninty.

    • greengecko007

That’s something I’d gladly pay for. This stuff though, while cool, is not something I’d pay for. Still very happy about the news though.

      • Jonathan Robitaille

I imagine they will add tracks in a DLC kinda like the Pikmin 3 DLC. There will be a cost associated but Nintendo seems to rock DLC so it’ll be worth it

I don’t know why people keep complaining about the Car DLC, It’s free so there really isn’t anything to complain about.

    • firedragonsage88

Product placement. Not really a big deal, but I don’t like how they look in the Mario universe. I’ll be skipping it.

      • Christopher 並倩道虫

How do you skip an update? o_O Then you wouldn’t be able to use any of the online services. Although I bet the stats of the cars are matched to existing cars so you don’t need to use them. πŸ™‚

        • firedragonsage88

It comes with the update? I thought it was going to be a DLC pack released along side it. Ugh. Whatever.

          • Christopher 並倩道虫

Well either it downloads it with the DLC for you, or the update contains the data so you can view other players who use the car. Either way, you’ll be stuck seeing them in online matches πŸ™

          • firedragonsage88

Yeah, I guess so. I’m not really that upset about it, I’m just not into it. At least most other people seem to be excited about it.

          • ColdRadio

One of cars in the pack, the W 25 Silver Arrow, is actually a classic Formula One car and looks like it fits right in with the other karts in the game. I’m pretty excited for it. The third one isn’t too bad, either. The GLA is the only one that really looks out of place, but hey–you don’t have to use any of them.

  • Gizmo

Dont own Mario Kart 8 but i want it so bad! The bad thing is im broke :/

    • Gordon Blakey

    • Brandos12

Good news, GameStop is launching a credit card with 26.99% APR!

  • James Miller I

So happy about the map on the screen!!

  • AdriΓ‘n GonzΓ‘lez Briones

This update it’s amazing, but could be more awesome if they fix what really really matters… BATTLE MODE MAPS!!!!

  • Milky Bacons

Yes, yes YES!! No NA release though… πŸ™

  • Real Varu

By everyone’s surprise, Super Mario Kart available today on Wii U VC πŸ˜€

  • Stuart Thomas

The biggest problem with this update, is that it took too long to come. But… at least it came!

  • Arkamarky

Finally we can see the amount of coins we have! I want to see how close I am from 10 000 coins to unlock the golden glider :3

    • Rich Garriques

already have it , got it the other day , i guess i been collecting coins πŸ™‚

  • Epicstuf

My thoughts exactly. Watch the video.

  • ZeldaFan83

Nintendo of America has announced the Mercedes DLC and MK8 update will launch on August 27th for North America for the 22nd year anniversary of Super Mario Kart.

    • bistricky

Thank you for the update on the Update. πŸ˜€

      • ZeldaFan83

        You are welcome πŸ™‚

  • Jared Williams

Wow! I didn’t realise there was already an Angry Birds Racing 8!

    • Epicstuf

And how does Angry Birds Racing come into this?

  • Ben Klein

How about some more tracks? I’ve never felt like I’ve paid $60 for a Nintendo game that feels like it should have been $30 until I bought MK8

    • Epicstuf

      Wait for track hacks.

      • Joseph Oliveira

And more like, wait until the Wii U gets hacked and gets sent to the consumer market.

    • Joseph Oliveira

I think we have plenty of tracks. It’s like every other MK game when it comes to number of tracks.

    • Merry_Blind

There are already plenty of tracks… though I wouldn’t say no to a DLC package with more tracks. The only content missing are proper battle arenas and maybe some cooler characters.

  • Agent721

Cool! But what updates to communication are they taking about? An improved selection of quips?!

    • Haha! But just so you know they mean the voice chat when playing with friends. πŸ™‚

  • Sheik

Yay!!! Now, MK 8 will be even more fun than it was before!!! Thank you Nintendo!!! ^-^

  • Chris Wells

Big update???? A big update would be a better battle mode or a double dash mode ha

  • Kevin James McAllister

I just want an option to turn the sound effects down and the music up. The music’s beautiful, but playing with some friends on Frantic Mode? Can hardly hear any of it.

  • greengecko007

So there’s actually more than one vehicle, and they come in a variety of colors based on the character? This just made my day. The other things being added to the game sound great too.

  • LevenThumps

This will make the game even better.

  • Bobby P.

Oh sweet, ive been wondering how far I was from the 10,000 coins needed from the gold chute.

    • Justinr

Is there really a golden chute?

      • Bobby P.

        Yup. 10,000 coins are needed.

  • Comments

Better online stability, map displayed on the TV screen, more vehicles options are welcome additions, but I still hope to see online friend chat implemented on actual races instead of just in the lobby.

    • Cubester_64

If you don’t have friends with a Wii U, it doesn’t matter anyway.

      • Comments

Well, I do have friends that have a Wii U, so it does matter.

  • Joseph Oliveira

Aside from this bonus material, the update will also include an optional on-screen map on the TV, which is something gamers have been asking for since before the game released.

You must be mistaken. We were asking for better Battle Arena tracks than a stupid racing track.

  • How about a DLC with battle arenas? Geez…

  • Justinr

It nice to see a big update to the game as weel as 3 new karts and their respective parts. What they really need to do is dlc of new tracks.

  • CaesarGood

just when i was about to trade mario kart 8 in, some more replay value for your ass..

    • Merry_Blind

Why would you trade in such a game???? Pretty sure I’ll still play this game here and there years from now just like any other Mario Kart…

  • TheBoldman67

Hopefully they take away that atrociously cheap short-cut on Rainbow Road. I mean, everybody online uses is and they’re all like “WEEEEE IM SOOOOOOO AMZING LOLOLOLOLOL”. It just really takes away all of the balance of the track and kind of ruins it, especially for those who don’t even know how to execute it.

  • Me waiting for a Disqus response.

  • Purple

    What about NOA?

  • David John Gifford

Hope they add more tracks and do a all in one everytrack dlc

  • anthony optimo

    Bring it on

  • james

Being able to track online win-losses is cool…

  • Jason

This is basically everything I asked for. Now they just need to fix battle mode (add arenas).

  • Rick Valenta

I remember the good ole’ days when games were finished when you bought them at the store. Wii U will be my last modern gaming console. Then it’s back to the classics for good.

    • Jonathan Robitaille

If you could go back to the good ol days and get new tracks months after buying F Zero on SNES you would have. Nintendo didn’t ship any incomplete games, they just made additional content after the fact…big difference

      • Rick Valenta

Hard to complain about extra content, except when it’s corporate shill. I’m talking more about bugs, glitches, etc. The quality control used to be there from day one. I just miss the days when a game console was a standalone unit, not a computer constantly downloading patches and firmware updates. I’m over it. Back to my N64 πŸ™‚

        • Merry_Blind

Well Nintendo games still have top quality control from day one. Personally, every Nintendo game I’ve bought so far on Wii U has been a stellar experience with no bugs or whatnot. The only instance in which I felt Nintendo kinda dropped the ball was the slowdowns in Wind Waker whenever you use bombs… but I assume they couldn’t change the framerate of the original game or something like that.

The updates I got for Nintendo games were mainly improvements such as Pro Controller support for New Super Mario or Stylus controls for Pikmin 3.

For multiplatform games and other consoles in general though, I agree with you. Assassin’s Creed is always my prime example of a franchise that could be amazing but is just ‘good’ because it lacks the polish and quality control.

  • The only thing I really want are Battlestages. Don’t care about anything else. Maybe player times in the scoreboard, but maybe that gets covered with this update. Let’s wait and see.

  • brian

You know what I’d like to see come back? Actual lap times. It was always fun to know I beat Bowser by 0.02 seconds

    • Merry_Blind

Yeah agreed, it’s always fun to see to see the lap times when you know a race was really tight.

  • Merry_Blind

Good start Nintendo! I hope you’ll continue on that trend and update more of your games more often to add features and content! However, please do consider DLC/expansion packs for this game.

Three updates I’d really like to see in the future would be:

1- When playing 2 players locally, the option to have one player playing full screen on the TV with whatever controller and the other player playing full screen on the GamePad. (instead of having split-screen on both screens like currently)

2- Changing the voice chat system so that when playing with friends online, you can voice chat with them in both the lobby AND in-race, in both private and public lobbies. (but strangers wouldn’t be able to hear you and your friends chatting in public lobbies)

3- Lap Times or at least Race Times at the end of each race.

As for DLC, the following 3 DLC packs would be great:

1- A character pack adding Dry Bones, Diddy Kong, King Boo, Bowser Jr. and Birdo with maybe some new vehicule parts too. (so one full row added to the current 6×5 grid of character)

2- A Battle Mode pack including 4 arena remakes from past games, and 4 completely new arenas. So 8 ‘Battle Arenas’ in total, adding to the 8 ‘Battle Races’ we currently have.

3- A Cup pack adding 1 cup of 4 remade races from past games, and 1 cup of 4 completely new races. So 8 new races in total, adding to the 32 current ones.

Bonus: -A Mode pack adding different modes to the game (don’t really have any ideas for this right now, but adding some variety to both Race Mode and Battle Mode wouldn’t hurt)

That is all, and that would be amazing.

Please share this around if you want to see these features and content added to the game too. Make Nintendo know we all want this!

  • iamserious

Next update should be to add more tracks for racing and arenas for battle mode. πŸ™‚

  • Arkamarky

Why do we always see Luigi riding on a Mach-8? Is it his signature car?

  • CaesarGood

the only thing about this now that i think about it, is why do we have to wait so long for it when this was known befroe the game came out? I mean why not give us this today for the weekend instead of 2 weeks later?

  • Darkness

    Nice job Nintendo!

Now if only we can get more characters and a REAL battle mode that has actual battle arenas. Too bad they won’t allow a patch to have 2 items like before πŸ™

    • FutureFox

I kind of appreciate the lack of stocking two items, not so at first. It puts more emphasis on racing techniques than total reliance on power-ups.

      • Darkness

Well I get what your saying but most of the powerful items don’t really help you that much. Ever get a star or golden shroom and only move up 1 spot?

  • this is really cool

  • A SNES Day Off

Good. Now give us dedicated battle arenas please.

  • Andre R

they should replace the batte mode to arenas in battle mode

  • Screamin Mime

How about times for your races and personal best times for each track?

  • leo bel

Online communication and races will have improved stability. THIS MEANS IN GAME CHAT ????

  • Michael Henderson

Would be nice for more tracks, five player local games, add to the roster make it like smash, and online voice chat in game.

  • Spaniard0069

How about giving us the option to customize the controls.
