The team behind Kirby’s Epic Yarn for Wii is working on an equally-adorable Yoshi game for Wii U. During the most recent Nintendo Direct Satoru Iwata announced the game and gave a little background on its development, as well as showing off the first gameplay footage. The footage shows a very similar art style to the team’s previous game (perhaps that same yarn wizard has come back to lock Yoshi in a sock this time), and – if the footage is indicative of the final game – it seems to feature the same platforming, jewel collecting gameplay. Some important differences to note are the presence of Mario universe enemies such as shy-guys, Yoshi’s ability to turn solid after eating an enemy, and a seemingly more dynamic camera. Mario veteran and the director of Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Story Takashi Tezuka has been revealed as serving a supervisory role over the new game. This will be the first Yoshi game released for a home console since Yoshi’s Story in 1998. Yoshi is seen in the in-game footage unravelling a yarn shy-guy with a well placed boot, but the presence of the flutter-jump is yet to be confirmed. local_offer Nintendo wii u yoshi stars Further Reading F-Zero X gets updated on Wii U to fix control New Zelda Breath of the Wild trailer and game Super Mario Maker Wii U vs 3DS comparison (vi Get Ocarina of Time on 3DS for only $14 New teaser site for Zelda: Breath of the Wild released How to track NES Classic Mini stock in time for Christmas George Kelly Nintendogasm! No one should ever doubt Ninetendo! Look at all of these awesome games that are being announced…and yes, many of them should sate “hardcore” gamer’s appetites. I could care less, I will always be that little kid that got a brand new Super Nintendo for Christmas at heart. Nick Kulakovskiy Well, they WILL probably announce “hardcore” and third-party titles at E3. sonicfan1373 People will always doubt Nintendo (even I have doubted them a few times) but we will always get proven wrong. Nintendo is a passionate, innovative, and simply magical company. To me (and many others) Nintendo is as hardcore as they come, just because it does not involve blood or ripping someones heart out does not mean the experience is not hardcore. Metal_Man_v2 I would rather have Epic Yarn 2. But honestly, this may be my first yoshi game. Great art style and gameplay from the vid. Nick Kulakovskiy Yoshi now looks hot. Chris Bingham I think my Wii U and wallet are about to explode ._. …. SO MANY FREAKING AWESOME GAMES!! My collection of Wii U games is starting to grow bigger very quickly X3 Marcell Wade Wish I could say the same, lucky lol. Chris Bingham I’m sure you’ll still be able to get some of the games ^^ Thankfully now when games get released on Wii U, they get released on the Eshop so you have plenty of time ^^ Marcell Wade I’m very excited for this, I own & loved Kirby’s Epic Yarn, a great Dev team is working on the Yoshi title for Wii U. Justin Lee Why yarn art style? I was really excited for the new yoshi game, but now that they announced it would be like that, my excitement for it went to zero. Anyway, I’m happy for others that like it. tronic307 Well, on the plus side, it can’t possibly be worse than Yoshi’s Story. EvanescentHero What was wrong with Yoshi’s Story? I loved that game. =( Immallama22 Can’t say I was expecting it to be like this but doesn’t matter to me! As long as it’s a good game. I just hope it’s not exactly like epic yarn 😛 Andrew W Garttmeyer I love Yoshi, don’t get me wrong, but I could care less about him having his own game. EvanescentHero You ever played Yoshi’s Island on SNES or Yoshi’s Story on N64? Val Berger I personally didn’t really like Yoshi’s Story. Yoshi’s Island was an original Miyamotogame which was actually the reason for it’s success. For me, it’s still one of the greatest Jump’n Runs ever created, but not just because of Yoshi, but because of the whole game’s style, the amazing (!!!) leveldesign, those supercool mechanics and gameplay-ideas, the boss fights, the music …. …. I really don’t believe, this yoshi’s epic yarn could get close to this by any chance. It looks like a fun JnR though, just not as massive-blockbuster-JNR as Yoshi’s Island was. Duke Togo cant wait 2 get this wen it eva comes out reminds me of little big planet RyuNoHadouken Yoshi’s Epic Yarn?! Yes!!(sarcasm) Rob Lucci Your too old to be trolling. Tim van Broekhoven >_< Anthony Sibilla You’re never too old to be a troll. Chris W Not understanding why it has to be this yarn crap….just give me another Yoshi’s Island with the beautiful art style in HD. Christopher Coonan Loved Yoshi’s Story, hated Epic Yarn, but this game looks amazing. Dominic Coradazzi good god, HAS IT REALLY BEEN 15 YEARS!?!? MRDOWNVOTE INCORPORATED NOOOOOOOOOOO and YESSSSSSSSSSSSS but whyyyyyyyyyyy YARN!!! I would like to see another Yoshi game with Yoshi’s Island art style! john AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Adorable! Linskarmo This looks like it could be very fun. Gary Moscheles this actually suits the yoshi games better than kirby Ernesto Avilez This game should be called yoshis story 2. I love yoshi story for N64 and collecting the fruit Kirbyomega Darn Yoshi…… first you steal his eating ability…. then his yarn style…… XD Just kidding, this looks cool, but it’s killing my wallet….
