For those of you who own New Super Mario Bros. U and are looking for an additional challenge, New Super Luigi U is now available as downloadable content in the Nintendo eShop. You’ll need to own a copy of the original game for this downloadable version, so if you don’t and want to play, North American consumers will have to wait until August 25th for the green box edition. European consumers will have a slightly less wait, as it releases on July 26th.

The game is designed to be a bit harder than the traditional game, as each of the 80+ courses have been reconfigured with Luigi’s greater jump distance in mind and with only 100 seconds to complete each level. The game also features a new playable character called Nabbit, who made an appearance in the original game. Nabbit’s special ability is that he cannot be damaged by enemies, so players using him will only need to be mindful of their jumps.

You can pick it up for a grand total of $19.99 and let us know what you think in the comments below. A review of New Super Luigi U will be coming in just a few days.

  • RockieOllie

Is it bad that I am not all that interested in this game?
I think I’m more excited for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
    ….Don’t hurt me.

    • Nobody’s going to hurt you, unless you think it hurts when people stomp on goomba’s using Luigi’s extra height for increased crushing impact.

    • Billy_Perry

Mate your with Nintendo fans, no one will hurt you.

      • RockieOllie

Oh thank you! You all are too kind.

    • Brandon Betlej

Wtf why you say that? Dkc tropical freeze is going to be amazing

    • Bob Charlie

It’s all good, sir! I won’t pick it up either as the 100 seconds per stage drives me nuts. I would get it come August, but Nintendo will already be getting my money for other games by then.

  • Jim Wanstall

If only we could pay $19.99 in Europe , we pay about $30 or so , $6 to $9 for virtual console Snes downloads

  • Joey Perez

    im gettin it right meow

  • NintendoNoob

This game will be amazing! I wanted a “new” game just for Luigi! πŸ˜€

  • andrΓ©

must i own the downloaded version of mario u to download luigi u??? i cant see the luigi game on eshop

    • incoherent1

Check the eShop in another hour or two — it might be that the update just hasn’t propogated to all eShop servers yet and you’re still seeing yesterday’s version.

  • Joey Perez

not on the e shop yet πŸ™ maybe if i un patiently wait…

  • Joey Perez

im still curious … how powerful is wii u ?

    • Billy_Perry

Pretty powerful, It will definitely be able to keep up with PS4 Xbox One graphics for a few years.

      • Joey Perez

yeah i think so too but i just wish nintendo would made the type of game this year to show consumers this.. so they know its no slouch. the wii u coulda shined so bright if a big game like zelda or metroid showed of graphic power this year sigh… i love the games coming out but it will be another year of ….. people claiming it has no power compared.. its just uneducated banter of course i know this but its frustrating to hear the masses ignorantly spewing their nonsense

        • teknik1200

wonderful 101 FTW. lots of ice looking games coming. X looks amazing.

I’m gonna play some more monster hunter now.

        • Billy_Perry

Meh, I think Mario Kart is one of the best graphical games at E3 this year if I’m honest. Not to mention X, that thing looked wicked, and its getting most 3rd party games as well (Which we all need to support really well, make the Wii U a viable platform.) So I think we have a good few games that will show off the Wii U is a powerful and impressive console.

Although to be fair, even games that are coming out now and for the last couple of years have looked beutiful, if all Wii U games are that good, then I’m cool with that.

      • Stephen Macneil

Not a chance. I love Nintendo as much as anyone else but it’s graphics are only arguably better than ps3 or the 360. The next gen consoles blow the wii u away in power but Nintendo is all about good games.

        • Veries Seals

ok, name one game so far that just blows the wii u away or a game that you dont think would run on the Wii U? I have not seen one yet.

          • Stephen Macneil

I can name a dozen. There is no way that games like Titanfall, Deepdown, Final Fantasy 15 could run on Wii u as they stand today. Sure, a port can be made but the polygon and textures would take a major hit with 2GB of ram and a relatively weak cpu and gpu. I think you will really notice the difference when AC4 comes out. The PS4 and Xbone versions will be far more impressive than the current gen and Wii U versions. The WIi U will look more like the PS3 and 360 versions. Granted, for me the Wii U graphics are just fine, but I think it’s absurd to compare its power to PS4 or Xbone. Wii U will suceed because of its unique and great games, not because of its graphics.

      • Joey Perez

saw this demo when they first showed the wii u and the zelda one too.. its a nice and i just wish we had a game was as wow …

        • Stephen Macneil

Yeah, seriously… that bird tech demo wasn’t that impressive, and especially not compared to what the next gen can do… for instance, the final fantasy demo that the PS4 demonstrated on their hardware http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH_ciBFd2pY

      • Virus6

While it certainly does look nice, it’s completely asinine to say that the PS4 couldn’t achieve these results seeing as it has undoubtedly better hardware…

        • Veries Seals

graphically I am sure it can, but the problem with the PS4 is it is generic gameplay wise. honestly I am not impressed with the ps4 nor any of its launch titles. I honestly think the XBOXone is a better buy and the more revolutionary out of the two. It does what the PS4 does plus tons of extra features. The Wii U trumps them both with new ways to enjoy games through the controller and it is no slouch on the graphics side either. PS4 has a lot of horse power but besides that what else do they offer. I had a vita and it bored me. I sold it. XBOXone has better exclusives so far in my opinion. Can anyone tell me what is so interesting about PS4?

          • Stephen Macneil

            How can a system be generic gameplay wise? It is simply a platform, and most people don’t want to be forced into using peripherals. While you might not like PS4’s games, many people will. Also, the PS4 hardware is far better than the Xbone’s. I consider myself to be pretty objective with these things;
currently I only have an Xbox 360 and Wii U, but right now the PS4 is by far the most powerful in terms of GPU, Ram speed, available Ram (7GB to Xbone’s 5GB). Also, Microsoft burned a ton of bridges with their hubris as of late.

          • Veries Seals

I do like the PS4 to be honest. I said that it is not innovative which means hardware wise it is doing nothing to force the developers to think outside the box. Believe it or not sometimes limitations can inspire creativity. I like the XBox ones content and features. I love my Wii U’s game play aspects. I build computer systems and I was a computer graphics major so I know all about system specs and delivering true graphical experiences. Also own my own business in the graphics field. Sometimes it is not about The quality of canvas you paint on sometimes it is about your ability to create on what ever quality canvas you get. In other words a true artist can create a master piece on any platform if he is really good. Lets stop giving the developers excuses on saying they cant deliver us a good game because they didn’t have all of the tools to make their jobs easier. Better Hardware is only a tool to ease development for the developer. The end user only receives that content. So to be honest that GDDR5 ram in the PS4 is great and all but it more for the developer that for you. But lets say they only had 2GB of DDR3 or DDR5… Should we expect crappy games because they have less memory? We didn’t accept it with the PS3’s humble 256MB. And what did they produce with that, Master Pieces like The Last of US and God of War. For the 360 We got Gears of War and Allen Wake!. The 360 had had like 512MB of unified memory. Now lets look at the Wii U. It has 2GB of DDR3, that is 4 times the amount of memory in the 360 and almost 6 times the amount in the PS3. Are you saying that we will not see quality content come from the unit?

          • Stephen Macneil

Of course I believe quality games will come from Wii u. I’ve always invested in Nintendo for that very reason. My statements were in regard to the PS4 against Xbox. I think the better system is ps4, but I agree, it will come down to software. I just think xbone’s innovations aren’t that special at all and just eat up 3gb of system resources. I’ll probably end up with both next gen consoles but right now I think the best platform will be ps4 but I’m not one for motion play or voice commands. I do they having more available ram is only a great thing, however.

          • Veries Seals

I can agree that the OS for the Xbox One should be optimized. I think they should achieve this over the next 2 years. That should not be a problem. They should be able to minimize the amount of RAM the OS uses. Perhaps they will have it optimized down to 1 GB for the OS in a couple of years. But keep in mind games for the PS4 like Shadow Fall was made to run on only 3 to 4 GB of ram for the PS4. I don’t think we will see games using to much more than that anytime soon. 7 GB of ram to run a game is really unheard of. But maybe there is a memory beast out there somewhere. The same goes for Wii U. They could optimize the OS to use less than 1GB and leave the extra memory for the developers. But as for the PS4, I don’t think the OS is accomplishing the shear amount and workload of multitasking that the XBOX One’s OS is, there for it should not need to take up more than 1 GB. The XBOX Ones OS actually handles so much more than the PS4. So far we have not seen the PS4 do anything more than play games. Now if the PS4 did the same workload and multitasking at the XBOX One would it only use 1GB for the OS? I don’t think so.

          • Stephen Macneil

Yes, I don’t think games will use that extra ram for awhile and the games that do will be few and far between. As for the Xbox, thd problem is mainly that it requires 3 os’s running at the same time, all the time. That’s a ram hog.

    • val berger

A few months ago, it started to be handled as an equivalent to the PS360 Generation, but after a few months, it turned out to be capable of processing far more. For instance it has nearly 10times more Ram than the PS3 and it’s GPU is far ahead of that generation, on the other hand, it won’t really be able to compete with the XBone/PS4-Generation on a technical level as those are really focusing on tech specs. In the end, the WiiU is a 300$ pakage of a tablet-style display controller + a gaming console while you only get a gaming console for 400$ with the PS4. I don’t even want to talk too bad against the PS4, I just want to give you a feeling of what to expect. Many people here will claim that the WiiU will provide enough power to keep up with the competition but I say, on a plain visual level, that’s just not true and you shouldn’t expect that. On the other hand, the WiiU surely is able to render really wonderful graphics. Check out the demonstration of Mario Kart 8 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA6CAgv6p6g )
You may agree, that this looks neat but maybe not like something, the PS360 wouldn’t be able to render. But then you should know, that this is running in 1080p and 60fps, which really is something huge as it shows, that this is just the beginning.
So in the end, you can say, the WiiU is just fast enough to display really beautiful graphics for fun games. If you’re after the best graphics of that generation, then the XBOne and PS4 will be the better choice. WiiU is more about creating unique gameplay experiences, that are also looking good, so there’s a different focus here. PS4 games will set their focus on cool presentation while still trying to deliver gameplay.

      • Stephen Macneil

How do you figure that Wii U has nearly ten times the Ram of PS3? PS3 has 512, while WIi U has 2gb.

        • val berger

Ok, sorry, I was wrong, I though it only had 256 MB Ram. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Rachel Ann Pierce

Nothing yet for me either πŸ™ I’m trying to patiently wait and I’m losing this battle…..

  • jesus suarez

    i cant wait anymore

  • eli

i just bought this game 2 days ago for this DLC…i didn’t want to wait longer for the retail game…in hind sight it would have been a good idea to make sure you could buy a 20$ eshop card first…soooo now what.

    • You can “use credit card to pay for remaining funds” in the eshop.

  • Kirbyomega

    100 seconds!?

  • Fred

I stayed up late last night, hoping to hit download before I went to bed, but it never showed up. Then I tried to download it this morning while eating breakfast, but it still wasn’t there. Is it actually available now? Is it hidden somewhere?

Also didn’t they say they were going to do an update for New Super Mario U that would allow Pro Controller support? I opened that game this morning and it didn’t update so I was disappointed there too.

  • Jennifer Hargis

ya still not available. I tried deleting my current update so it would force it to download the update again. still didnt work. my poor boy just cant wait any longer. hes been up since 630am waiting for it to be available

  • d d

If I have the regular game on disc can I download this for it?

    • Fred

its in the eshop for me but won’t let me download it! i have the disc version of nsmbu

  • Jon

don’t really care for the download of this, what I want it the physical version of it πŸ˜€

  • Kholby

I’m in Toronto and it’s up for me. In order to download it though I had to start the NSMBU software to get the update! And then go in and purchase LuigiU.

    • Fred

I tried that this morning while I was eating breakfast, but there wasn’t an update for NSMBU and there was nowhere in the game to buy Luigi

      • option should be on the main menu

        • Fred

Thanks, it wasn’t there when I was eating breakfast this morning, but I’ll check again as soon as I get off work. Hopefully it’ll be there by then.
Did NSMBU update when you started it up?

          • Yes it updated πŸ™‚

            Hopefully its there!

          • Fred

Thanks, when i got home I booted up NSMBU and it didn’t update and there was no Luigi option on the menu.

I went to the eShop and searched it (just as I did before) but this time I found an the DLC.

I told it to download (keep in mind I have the digital NSMBU so the eShop knew I had the game) and it said I needed to update NSMBU so I thought I just opened it and it didn’t update.

I selected it again and that time it updated. A lot of hassle, but now I really like NSLU so I’m cool with it

          • sorry about your issues! It was easier for me… πŸ™

  • Bob Singh

I have my green box pre-ordered!

  • andrΓ©

i saw on you tube that 100 sec per level , and the level is much shorter and rushed, than mario u.. and its the same story in the begining and exakt same MAP ,

  • Kaihaku

I’m tempted but I think that I’ll wait for the disc version.

  • Kholby

NSLU is hard as heck. Holy moly!

  • IncubatedDucks

Waiting for the retail version! Can’t wait!
