Now that New Super Luigi U is finally available on the eShop, long-time Nintendo fans have a difficult decision ahead of them. The physical version of New Super Luigi U that comes in a green box will not be available until August in North America, which is about a two month waiting period for the game. So here’s the question: Have you already bought the digital version or are you holding out for a physical version?

Vote in our poll and let us know in the comments which version you picked and why!

    the green box is sexy

    • [000]

It would have won by a landslide too if there was a picture of it at the top of the article. Y u no show box art Wii U Daily? I guess I should do it for now.

    • Guhtere

A box is sexy? I do not see any sexual attractiveness in a case made to hold in a video game…

      • SeroReviews

        sex·y (sks)
        adj. sex·i·er, sex·i·est
        1. Arousing or tending to arouse sexual desire or interest.
        2. Slang Highly appealing or interesting; attractive: “The recruiting brochures are getting sexier” (Jack R. Wentworth).

        • DereX

1 : language PECULIAR to a particular group

2 : an INFORMAL nonstandard vocabulary composed typically of coinages, arbitrarily changed words, and extravagant, forced, or facetious figures of speech

    • Stuart Thomas

I love the box but 2 month wait is ridiculous, so got digital download, already almost done with it 100% no continues and all stars. I will buy the boxed copy eventually off ebay or something, if it was same day release i would’ve bought the boxed copy and spent the extra money.

  • Immallama22

    Down with fun!

  • willweinert

The green box is like a beautiful stallion, galloping on to my game shelf.

  • Dell Goodman

I actually disliked the Mario bros U, that this is a title I’m not even considering. Side scrolling mario games just don’t appeal to me, that when I got this title with my Wii U, I played about 4 levels of it before turning it off and waited on selling it the next day.

    • Not sure why you got so many downvotes. Everyone has their game tastes and your comment was polite and and fair as it stated your preference and not that the game sucks just because you do not like it.

To this day I rather like the 2D scrolling Mario Games. I find them fun and challenging despite how similar they may be.

  • koire

until there is a linked nintendo account for my digital purchases, i try to do as little digital download as possible

  • Pikachief

I’ll probably download it, but that 3rd option was just too funny not to pick 😛

  • therealruben1

looks like mario got jelous and voted 17 times

  • Jack5221

  • ChiwawaBoi

Physical copy. im just a collecter freak! I cant put a digital copy on the shelf..

Fact: 10.97% of trolls chose the last one.

  • Guest

    People are saving trees!

  • DingoWalley

I got it Digital, cause I wanted to play it ASAP. It’s fun but really difficult! (I had to re-do the 2nd Mini-Castle about 5 times it was so difficult) I think that New Super Luigi U Might be the Direction 2D Mario’s should go in. As in, they should be really difficult.

    • Seth Callahan

I was showing NSMBU and Luigi U to my friend who owns a Wii U but neither game. He was really impressed until the mini-castle in world 2. Definitely a challenge, especially in multiplayer.

    • Magnus Eriksson

They shouldnt. They should leave this series now, and never come back. The Mario World we saw at E3 should take over for NSMB now. And Nintendo should continue with a 3d mario in the style of sm64, Sunshine and G1&2.

  • I got the digital already.. The case is cool but saving $10 and getting the game earlier was beneficial to me.

  • Seth Callahan

Got it on Sunday. It’s awesome!

  • NintendoNoob

    30 people are despicable

  • Matski

Has anyone played this yet? I found the original game incredibly hard and frustrating when you keep dying and having to start at the beginning again. I know some people see that as part of the fun but personally I just couldn’t stand it anymore and stopped playing (before my head exploded) and so I just wondered if playing as Luigi makes the game a little easier? I realize he can briefly float in the air when he jumps a little so thought this may make it easier but maybe they have balanced it out so as to keep it challenging. I can still see its a brilliant game and I love the art work, I just suck at it and don’t seem to be able to get any better :-p

    • Fred

Playing as Nabbit makes it easier (you can only play as Nabbit if you buy Luigi.

    • Rick van der Linde

You found the original game incredibly hard?! Are you talking about just completing the story the first time, or do you mean collecting all star coins and 100% complete the game? Because just finishing the story one time is incredibly easy, compared to the old Mario games on the NES/SNES…

      • Matski

Hah! it may be incredibly easy for you guys but I just found it far too difficult and frustrating. I grew up with Sonic more than Mario and to me Sonic is a lot easier and fun. It’s just me though, not the game as its obviously awesome! I just cant play it :-p

        • Rick van der Linde

Ah okay 🙂 I grew up with Mario and I guess I find it hard to imagine that this game is hard because of that.. There are so many power-ups everywhere 😛 Play it with someone controlling the tablet, it’ll be easier 🙂

  • Robert

I can’t vote because there is no option for “Both.”

    • Adrian

you are getting both? That’s called a waste of money.

      • Robert

If they came out on the same day, I probably would have only got the disc version. If there were more games on Wii U that were worth playing that I didn’t already have or complete, then maybe I would wait. Right now the waste of money was buying the system too early. Also since the disc version will only be sold in 2013 according to ads, it might be somewhat collectible in the future, so not necessarily a waste to pick one up.

  • tronic307

    • John Raybell

      ???????????????? why buy both? ever!

  • jay

    35 people hate fun.

    • Ducked

      Those were Xbox gamers

  • A SNES Day Off

I own NSMB-U on disc and want to get this new Luigi game on disc to match. The way I see it is that the organisation of a game library is pretty important, and I don’t like the idea of splitting my retail titles between downloads and discs. So for now, I’m sticking with discs as there are always ways to pay less than the eShop prices (with the exception of Luigi U).

The other factor is that I got the ‘Basic’ Wii U as it was £150, and I really don’t want an external HDD with another plug taking up space.

  • slade6alpha

I planned on retail for the green box, but then I realized it comes out two months later. Already was willing to pay extra, but I realized there are going to be so many Fall games I’m going to want to play and college begins again… I’m into playing this kind of game now, love multitasking while playing. Maybe watching some TV, while playing. Not sure if I’m going to want to play this 2 months later. So I bought it now, digitally!

  • Jump’nShootMan

Here’s my only question (maybe a dumb one, but if you have the DLC, I’d like to know for sure): If you get the DLC, you still have to insert the disc to use it, right? You can’t just play without first putting NSMBU in? I might be convinced to save the $10 if you could do that, but otherwise, the collectability + the lack of a linked Nintendo ID isn’t enough for me to go digital.

    • Fred

I can, but that’s because I bought NSMBU digitally so now I own both digitally and I never have to worry about the discs

  • Adrian

Option 3: physical bundle deal with NSMBU.

  • Nintendude

    Wait… 48 people hate fun?
    Their lives must suck.

  • Geoffrey Tasker

they forgot the “both” option I’ll be the unofficial carrier of that torch

  • johnzig

nintendo games hold value… look at mario all stars on wii or the metroid collection on wii. can wait for luigi

  • Justin Lee

I like my games to be boxed, but 2 months is way too long to wait knowing I can play right now.

  • incoherent1

Normally I’d go box version, but I decided to go digital this time because:

    – It’s cheaper (and lord knows enough of my extra cash will be spent on video games this coming year)
    – I needed 40 points to make Platinum for Club Nintendo
    – I wanted something to play now

  • Brandon Gardner

Going “Green” for digital save the trees

    • Ron Burgundy

“Going “Green” for digital save the trees”…what a dumb statement…

There’s less paper in the case than you’ve probably already used today to wipe your ass with! Are you going to quit using toilet paper to “save the trees” as well??

      • Brandon Gardner

How about I wipe my ass with that orange face you got…. It was joke calm down…..

        • Nintedward

rofl!!!! This conversation made my day haha.

          • Brandon Gardner

        • Ron Burgundy

Mine was a joke as well….sounds like you’re the one that needs to calm down. haha

      • Majora’s Mask

        such an immature answer

  • greengecko007

So for $20 you get a downloadable DLC, and for $10 more you get a highly collectible case and disc, which should you ever decide to sell, will probably be a valuable collector’s item? Doesn’t seem like a tough choice.

  • Nintendofreak
  • Nintedward

I hate fun lol! I’m getting Physical , i’m in no paticular rush to play it and I do wish to add it to my Wiiu collection.

  • DereX

What happened to that Dungeons and Dragons online co-op game that was going to be released this week on the Wii U eshop?

  • Ron Burgundy

I’m going to wait for the physical…save the bandwidth and have something to put on my shelf. I fear that it’ll be one of those horrid eco cases though! I did find a source on real cases so i can replace all them. A lot of sense in those eco cases…once I get real cases, I’m just gonna toss them! My point being, if your going to cheap out and give people cases that they can put their finger through, they’ll treat them like the cheap garbage they are. You don’t cheap out and give them a quality case, they’ll appreciate it more and take care of them better. All in the name of “eco”…what rubbish…we truely have become a through away society…

  • JB

Totally should have been an option for “both!” I already got the digital version, but you just can’t pass up a collectible, right?! The release dates are far enough apart for me to justify the purchase 🙂

  • Araan

I bought the digital version to play it already, and I’m going to get the physical because of dat green box! 😀

  • Justis Bistawros

I would choose the digital copy because its only an ad on to New Super Mario Bros U. I wouldnt want to wait two months just to get a separate game case. Now if it was a completely different game sure i would get the physical case.

  • I_I

the Green Box will look good on top of my shelf

  • Ony

382 digital, 380 physical, hmmmmm hard to choose haaaaaaaaa

  • ludist210

Play it now for $10 cheaper, or wait two months and pay $10 more than I could right now…

    Yeah, downloaded.

  • Ducked

I hate buying games digitally, plus green box is beautiful!

  • gimpcell

Surprised to see the balance. I cannot wait for the case. It is a beautiful color.

  • Fred

I already bought it. I’ll be able to play it while I wait for W101 instead of waiting around and I’ll save $10 in the process.

  • RoyRelapse

I miss the “both” option here, sadly !

  • Metal_Man_v2

Although I’ve seen this DLC get very mixed numerical scores, upon actually reading the reviews, most critics seem to have the same opinion.

It’s a fun and challenging addition to the game, and is obviously well liked by die hard Mario fans, but the lack of truly “new” content was a negative point on every single review I’ve read so far. Some critics did recognize that this DLC can also act as a standalone game, and pointed out the value in a $30 Wii U game.

    • Adrian

I’ve never played a Mario game hoping for new content. Haha, but then again I’m old school. Even the Galaxy games were a bit annoying to me because of the changes.

  • Antar Rodríguez

i personally consider they shouldnt have made the phisical version, its just a DLC, nintendo should have saved that money

    • Kenshin0011

Nintendo actually makes more money by releasing a physical version as well…

    • From my understanding it was originally intended to be DLC only but due to customer requests they made a physical stand-alone copy.

    • DemonRoach

I’m sure it costs next to nothing for them to produce it, so it’ll be like 95% profits.

    • Andreas Sunde

I probably wouldn’t buy it if it was digital only, and there are many people like me. So it wouldn’t have saved Ninty money, but it would have saved me money.

  • Kenshin0011

Already have it! Buying it physical is pretty pointless unless you’re a really avid collector of video game boxes. It’s really fun and definitely worth it!

  • Peter Joll

I’m going for the physical version, I hear it may only be available in 2013 plus for less than £6 more than the DLC version, it means I don’t need need to worry about having the original game to play it. I can lend the original out or maybe even sell it and still be able to play the Luigi version. A little tougher of a decision in the US though as it’s an even longer wait which sucks a bit.

  • MetroidZero

    “I wanna get [a] physical, physical…”

  • sdmac200600

Well since there’s no option for it up there, I vote for both down here.

    • mralloverit

Same here. Once I get paid, at least.

  • Jay Jay

I downloaded it the first day and it’s awesome.

  • The_Colourful_Jester

Physical copy. Would like to buy digital, but I don’t want it tied solely to one console.

  • Sidney Majurie

No option for both? I’m a collector and I’ll be keeping that nice green box sealed 😀

  • Inviable Gaming

In Australia there making us pay 50 bucks for the physical I am getting the cheaper digital.

  • dgallo911

Unless nintendo bring the prices in aus inline with the rest of the world I wont be gettin eiter. 29.95 for digital and pre order price is 59 here…..

  • Magnus Eriksson

Bought the digital the 20th. I think it was a little less than ok. Its not enough to announce a “year of Luigi” on the Wii U. Nintendo made it too easy for them again.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah. Downvote this 😛 Nintendo is just doooing greeeeat. No need to release other stuff than NSMB… They shouldnt announce the year of Luigi in the first place if this is what they got. Its a joke.

  • DemonRoach

Need to save my Wii U HD for updates. No room for digital games.

  • AAAkabob

    Interesting that its split

  • MrBuney

I live in America, where cheaper is a KEEPER

  • ronalsk

Already bought it a few days ago and having a lot of fun with it. Just challenging enough and the graphics are pretty awesome. Maybe the boss fights could have been changed a bit but all in all, pretty cool addition to NSMB.

  • John Raybell

I would be happy to never see a NSMB game ever again, put that time and money into real projects instead of these little side milkers. no more spin offs, how about super mario world wiiu instead, full open world with a co-op friend on tv and someone one on gamepad.

    Sounds good to me 🙂

  • Steve Train

I would have gotten the digital, but I only rented New Super Mario Bros U, so I’ll be getting the physical.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

I always buy physical copies, but the digital version is 10 dollars cheaper and its only like a dlc, so im buying the digital this time.

  • Dan

Both! This is ideal because I can download the game for play, and keep the green case physical copy sealed on my shelf for collectors sake. Something tells me that 5 years from now, you will still be able to walk into a store and buy a “Players Choice” copy of NSMBU, but that NSLU will be a thing of the past making this release highly sought after by collectors. That being said, Nintendo could also go the route of re-releasing both games together on one disc. At which point the stand alone green case copy will still remain collectable.

  • old_skool

Buy the digital copy and with the money you save, print off a copy of the cover and stick it in and old xbox case, Jobs a gud’un 🙂

  • MonsterHunter387

“None, I hate fun” = the troll option

  • 210stuna

Physical because I’m too cheap to buy the first one

  • Emily Horton

Sorry, but a green box is not worth 10 dollars to me. Plus, I like having both games right with each other- no need to reboot, pop the other disc in, etc.
