Developer Frozenbyte have released a pack of new screenshots of their upcoming Wii U platform game Trine 2: Director’s Cut. And boy does this game look stunning. In fact, we’ll go on a limb here and say it looks better than New Super Mario Bros U or any 2D platform game Nintendo has ever made. Think it’s blasphemy? Check out the screenshots for yourself. And yes, these are actual in-game screenshots.

Trine 2 Wii U screenshots

For more info, check out our Trine 2 page. The Wii U version carries the “Director’s Cut” title, and includes the recently released DLC “Goblin Menace”. It’ll also include a slew of tweaks and improvements to the gameplay and visuals. The game is expected to be a Wii U launch title.

Looks amazing I will problaby pick this up first day

    • Ledreppe

I think you mean you’ll download it first day, as it’s download only. I’ll be playing this after I’ve played a couple of Other Wii U games before it. Those graphics are jaw dropping.

      • Bejsindjjwnn

Not a download man. The wii u only has 8gbs of flash memory and I would believe that is not big enough to store trine 2 with its included dlc.

        • Macarony64

Is a dlc and the 8 gig thing is still a rumor

          • just NINTENDO

            it is so amazing

        • Random

That’s too bad for you because it has been confirmed it is only available on the eShop, anyway 8gb sounds like more than enough for this game, and maybe the Wii U will come with an SD card

          • Morley94

It will definitely not, name one system that shipped with a memory card in the box. If this were the case they would just raise the space on the hard drive.

        • Hangman

Wii U uses an internal flash memory. It also supports SD memory cards and external USB storage.
          This is all

    • mikey

This game looks immense but is there a good story line to it because I’ve never played trine 1 before. Also it says in the article that this is actual in game screenshots so I assume it’s multiplayer. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  • DK

It looks better then any platformer nintendo has ever made because every single one was on the wii, and super mario bros still has wii graphics but in 1080p

    • nambit

This is a PC port that really plays like ass IMHO. If you love the visuals, that’s cool, but the game is just boring and the characters don’t have the tight controls. Mario is leagues better than this. In terms of visuals, it’s a matter of game style.

You want a game to show off the Wii U, go ahead, but try it on the 360 first (demo) and see what I mean. The game looks about the same on the 360, by the way. I’m much more excited for Rayman (and Mario, of course) than for this.

Don’t get me wrong, it might be your cup of tea… but if you have a 360 (or PC) grab a demo first before you spend the bucks on it. Apparently it’s sub-$9 right now on steam for the PC (well, Trine 2 anyhow).

      • TheUNation

Reality check– This is Trine 2: DIRECTOR’S CUT for the Wii U. It may be a “port” to you, but it’s an uncut (possibly the definitive) version of the original sequel. The Wii U downloadable title will have more features that the original PC and multi-plat consoles do not have.

The word “port” no longer exists so I suggest you should get over it and just accept it for a change.

        • WII U 4 LIFE

Good one Me i can’t wait for this

      • Marq

Played a demo of the first on PS3, and I’m inclined to agree with you about the game’s poor controls. Nintendo’s platformers control so much better. But I’ll gladly download a demo for Trine 2 without any biases and purchase it if it proves to be fun.

        • Sarkilas

It’s worth noting that the controls are pretty much designed for PC. If they weren’t originally intended to be for PC, the point still stands that the PC controls are very fluent and is not poor in any regard (other than W and Space both being jump but having slightly different uses).

The precision with any character other than the knight is terrible with a gamepad (I have tried playing with an XUSB gamepad in the PC version of the game), and it’s pretty much wasted to try. I can only imagine the terrible experiences people will have by playing this on any console today.

However, with Wii U’s gamepad, it could work quite as well as PC due to its precision on the touch screen.

It’s a great game nevertheless. Alas, personally, playing Trine or Trine 2 alone is half the fun of playing it with friends.

  • chiapet

Pretty impressive. This wasn’t on my radar until recently; I might have to end up getting it if I’m lucky enough to bag a Wii U. That top shot makes me think of Moria…very cool.

  • Wils81

Played the game before. It seemed as if anything could happen, because of the physics engine. πŸ™‚

  • RLThomaz

The game looks beatiful, indeed. But this not makes me want to have it. It seems to be a really slow paced 2D plataform, and I think it sucks because of that. Of course I don’t want a Sonic paced game, I think that it is extreme, but such a slow game doesn’t fit 2D FUN. Rayman Legends looks as good as this one but is going to be better, no doubts. Anyway, congratulations to Frozenbyte for such stunning graphics, but graphics does not sell games to myself!

    • Macarony64

I like the slow adveture pace whit puzzle remindsme of flashback on the genesis

  • Boxman

Actually, i believe Nintendo Power said it coming to the eshop or whatever the wii u version will be called. I hope we wont have to wait months to use it like we did for the 3DS

  • Mr.Chimera573

And people say that Nintendo can’t make a console with good graphics. Time for the haters to eat their words πŸ˜€

    • Schizza

      HA HA HA

Please don’t choose to use this or any other 2d side scroller such as proof that the wii u can do great graphics.

      It’s an old $4 dollar download that’s 1.3gbs big.

It is not is any way, shape or form pushing the hardware in the wii u.

Comments such as your make you seem young and uninformed.

      • Macarony64

True but you have to take into account that the game is being displayed on 2 devices on a tv and the pad

        • Macarony64

O and another thing the game is a 3d sidescroller

          • Schizza

Argh you’re totally missing my point.

I am simply saying don’t use this game as the crutch for your statement

“And people say that Nintendo can’t make a console with good graphics. Time for the haters to eat their words”

There are many amazing games coming out for wii u that look gorgeous. Assassins Creed III looks amazing and graphical pushes the wii u A LOT more than this simple e-shop download.

            Hope you understand me meow.

  • Lamsaturn

I hope it comes out for the Wii U eShop at launch, but I doubt it. The only eShop launch title I know of is Chasing Aurora (which also looks very cool).
Also, to my knowledge, this is one of the first Wii U games to actually include online play, so I’ll definitely download this one.

    • TheUNation

Evidently, Trine 2: Director’s Cut will be available at the Wii U eShop at launch as well as the selected first and third party publishers and indy developers.

  • El CaRaS1

    wow looks stunning!!!!

  • SteampunkJedi

Those sure are gorgeous screenshots, but that probably means a huge download size. I may not be able to get it.

    • Macarony64

Actualy is kind low 1.08 on xbox and ps3 so it will just be like 1.45 gigs on wiiu

      • SteampunkJedi

My Internet connection doesn’t even allow half a gigabyte per day. So in my case even “just” 1 gig is too big. And it’s not terribly fast, so the overnight download would probably not even work.

        • Morley94

Holy shit do you have a welfare connection?

  • nambit

  • alex

i think thst nintendo will make a conector not usb for a hfd like xbox did with the 4g versin of the 360 on ign theres a news that say nintendo will show the wii u at his final form on September 13 wich for means there somge changes on the consold like they did with the game pad i dont think they include one but the option to put an internal one maybe is there

  • Shankovich

Not to be pessimistic or anything, but it better look good, it’s a 2D side scroller. I know I know it depends on art style and all that but there’s no excuse in 2012 not to use HD textures and alike.

  • derty

    Ya I’m gettin this πŸ˜‰

  • TheImaj

Wow. Looks pretty vulcan amazing. Purchased!

  • James

Too bad this game is actually quite boring..

  • Wii U Gamer#19

Man! this game looks freakin AMAZING!

But the thing that still worrie’s me is,
will the Wii U Eshop have a GCN VC’ i mean i have a gamecube, and a wii but it always doesn’t hurt to have backups you know.

Also, im gonna play the Wii U alot, so i’d like to play everything in one console.

  • nintenman

looks like nintendos games are coming up in a massive way graphics are top notch and game plays amazing who can you hate that!!

  • AwayToHit

i have the PC version of this on steam and its about 2GB. It looks better on PC but this Wii U version is the next best thing πŸ˜€

  • Nintyfan

UNLESS WE’RE GETTING CLOUD STORAGE ON WII U TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜›

    awwwwwwwwwwww yeah!

  • .,

It wa already a beautiful game.

  • ineedawiiuNOW

32 and 8 gigs of memory. and u can also put a 3 TB hard drive to your wiiu. so definitely enough space

  • WII U 4 LIFE

Im buying this it looks awesome

  • Ben2

Reminds me of Lord of the Rings. The archer is Legolas, the fat dude is Gimli, and the wizard is Gandolf.

  • NintendoBoii

Defiantly getting this game when I can!, Graphics are absolutely incredible!.
