The recent New Super Mario Bros U Game Informer article gave us plenty of new details on the game, and now we get a new pack of screenshots as well. The game will feature a world map much like Super Mario World, and will have at least seven different game worlds with dozens of levels in total. It’s also feature a new speed run mode called “Boost Mode”, where players have to complete the level as fast as possible. Earlier this Summer, Nintendo producer Takashi Tezuka said that the recently released NSMB 2 game for the 3DS will “raise the bar” for a Mario game, and that New Super Mario Bros U on the Wii U will be “even better” than that.

Be sure to check out some of the New Super Mario Bros U magazine scans from the latest Game Informer issue. You can also find the game on the cover of the magazine as well (pic here).

  • Phrog

I can’t wait, this game is going to be so much awesome fun!!

  • Wii Uoops!

So this game is all about food?
Sparkling Waters, Frosted Cake Desert, etc.

    • Alienfish

All great games are about food. Just look at all the Smash Bros. games, they have tons of food. And Kirby? Total foodhound. Mario munches the shrooms and Link drinks milk and Kool-Aid to stay strong. 😀

      Butter Bridge
      Cheese Bridge
      Soda Lake
      Chocolate Island

      • Atstyle

I just wish we will be able to kick koopa shells or any holdable items upward just like in super mario world. I also hope we have same game physic as world(which had the best physic for a 2d mario platformer)

        • NintendoMan :D

The developers were always hungry when they were making Super Mario World, thats why it has so much food in it. lol 😀

  • SteampunkJedi

This will definitely be a day one purchase for me.

    • Nintedward. WiiU . 3DS

As awesome as this game look’s , there is only one 2d platformer for me on launch day . Rayman Legend’s.

I just bought NSMB2 for 3ds and whilst it is very good , i have had enough for a few months , infact i will be playing NSMB2 for the next few month’s.
So i don’t need another 1 right away.
i am getting a wiiu with 5 games. i will play and finish those 5 games. once i am finished with Legend’s i will purchae NSMBU .

i Think for anybody who doesn’t own NSMB2 for 3ds , NSMBU is a must have for wiiu launch. But for somebody like me who has been playing NSMB2 since the 17th of August , I will wait till about at least january till i buy NSMBU

      • Nintedward. WiiU . 3DS

        Horrible grammar I know , I think I have anti-grammarsyndrome 🙁

      • SteampunkJedi

I have NSMB 2 too. So to rephrase that: I will get SMB U at launch if I can get the other games I want as well as it.

  • Macarony64

So i want my wii u NOW

  • Andrew Sheehan

I love Nintendo so much, it is in my veins, for I have grown up with and was raised by Nintendo game consoles. The excitement I felt when I played through each and every level of Super Mario World (SNES) has been lying dormant for nearly 20 years. Now that said dormant feeling is starting to be felt again and I don’t even have my hands on the controller. Thank You, once again, Nintendo.

    • Knotan

I still play SNES with my friends atleast one day a week 🙂 .
And there is alot of Super Mario World and Super Mario Allstars!

  • link 5

Looks nice they took a small step forward boost mode reminds me of coin rush

  • snestendo

Game looks pretty nice and i would buy it at launch, but i feel like it wont be a big seller. Especially since some casual gamers will think it is the same as the 3ds, they both are Mario plat formers.

  • some gUy

Brings back memories, but with epic graphics.

  • Death

Wait, there are full size yoshis as well as small ones? Awesome! I was under the assumption that were only going to be baby yoshis! That’s pretty awesome.

Also…. Underwater Bullet Bills? That should be interesting. Overall, it looks a far more interesting game than its 3ds counterpart.

    • Random

I don’t know if they’re new or not, but apparently they are called Torpedo Teds

      • MarioNotAProblem

nope. they were in the mario galaxy games and i don’t know about the 2d scrollers. but definately in the mario galaxy series.

      • Gabe Hoffman

You are right my friend they are called Torpedo Teds and they first appeared in Super Mario World.

    • Gabe Hoffman

Maybe Nintendo should change the name to New Super Mario World.

    • nintendoododo

do you live in barrel? In e3 2012 they showed that you can play as adult yoshi when they showed the cover of game.

      • dr scoobie

playing as yoshi would be awesome
unless you mean on yoshi and not as yoshi

  • RonaldCoLtd

    Mind = Blown

  • Metroidvania

After all thats been revealed about this game recently. This is probably the one im most excited for.

I went from yeah “Ill get it eventually”. To a “I have to have it!” Super Mario World being my favorite game. This game seems to invoke the spirit of that one. I put many hours into that game as a kid, and I have no doubt ill be putting the same into this one.

Also with the added features to the gameplay, and seeing a classic side-scrolling Mario game in beautiful HD for the first time. Its a must for me.

This in my opinion will probably be the best “New” Super Mario game to date, and seeing as how Nintendo said this will probably be the only 2d Mario released on the Wii U. As they said they’re only going to release one 2d Mario per platform. Im glad ill have this game right out of the gate.

    • dubYA

Completely agree! SMW is the reason I got into gaming, and it holds a special place in my heart. However, it’s not just nostalgia talking. The game still holds up incredibly well to this day. Whenever a new Mario game is announced, I always hope that it will emulate SMW to a degree. For example, the Galaxy games are both excellent, but SMG2’s many nods to SMW really put it over the top for me. Now, finally, it appears 2D Mario is really getting back in touch with his SNES roots, and I couldn’t be happier!

  • CSM0

    Yay! Torpedo Teds are back!

  • flashdrive

i think that the graphics could be better. seriously, other than the fact that it’s hd it looks like the wii could push this. now i’m probably gonna get some hate and thumbs down for saying this.

    • Alienfish

The Wii can’t pull off textures anywhere near what’s being shown here. I guess if you have really bad vision and you play without glasses/contacts then it wouldn’t make much of a difference, but I’m also sure that Nintendo is going to do something to use that extra processing power. I do think they could do 1080p though. This 720 crap should be saved for 3D games that actually use the GPU to its full extent.

  • Behind you

Rayman versus Mario. Who will win the best wii u platform game for decide

    • Mark

      ZombiU 😛

    • Nintedward. WiiU . 3DS

      Trine 2 , Toki tori .

    • SuperShyGuy

I love Mario and all but I still think Rayman LOOKS better.
But I have a feeling Mario PLAYS better.

  • Rasta

Yup this game should be called New super mario world!

  • TheUNation

This game reminds me of Super Mario World… but with gorgeous graphics and unique play control. New Super Mario Bros. (World) U is gonna be a blockbuster hit along with Pikmin 3 and Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends.

  • totesawks

should be a download only game. Really not impressed with this

    • Metroidvania

Its rather fun to believe the world revolves around you doesnt it?

Then again a pessimists favorite flavour of candy is self misery.

    • dr scoobie

      why download only?
its not hard to put a disc into the disc drive

  • Mark

The game doesn’t seem very sharp and HDish to me…

    • DonnyKD

That’s because you have the eyes of a 4 year old.

    • dr scoobie

      it is in HD

  • Kav

This game belongs to the portable(3ds), i want a real game, i want another mario 64 or sunshine.

    • dr scoobie

this game wouldnt suit the 3ds
this game was designed for the wii u
the objects on the screen would be too small for the wiiu

      • Kav

For me it looks a lot like New super mario bros 1 and 2 for the ds and 3ds.
Dont get me wrong, i love this games, but we got one of them already this year, i prefer something diferent, something like mario sunshine or mario 64, something like mario galaxy, but not that space-ish, a game where you are free to explore a city or town or castle with mario, where you can find hidden objects and earn new tools or skills to beat a new evil monster or to reach some hidden passage.

  • Scootex1912

I’ve had a Nintendo console for as many years & I’ll defo be getting this on day 1:)! Games on Nintendo have more soul & depth to any other (Zelda: Ocarina Of Time still is the best game I have ever played) & Nintendo will keep this tradition going:)!!!

    • goginho

  • AwayToHit

Looks better than the POS that is NSMB 2.

  • Colton S.

Every single graphic, so sharp. Just like the pirrahna plant’s teeth!!!!
