Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii UEveryone knows that the Wii U hasn’t been doing well when it comes to sales. And that’s largely due to a lack of high-profile games. But this trend might be changing now, as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has hit the store shelves in Europe and North America.

The first sales data from UK game retailers reveals that the Wii U sales have increased 125% since the release of Monster Hunter 3. Over the past weeks, UK retailers have been battling Nintendo and slashing Wii U prices left and right. Nintendo eventually met with the retailers and laid out their plans for the Wii U over the next months.

And it’s not just the UK where Wii U sales saw a significant increase. Nintendo France confirmed that Wii U sales have tripled since the release of Monster Hunter 3 in the country.

Hopefully this is the start of the turnaround for Wii U sales. There are plenty of upcoming games that can easily cause a sales spike of the console. Games like Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101 are just around the corner.

nintendo knows what their doing. hopefully they continue making great games.

  • Sonic

  • NkoSekirei

i betcha monster hunter sales here gonna fly through the roof its a very popular game and any troll says other wise i hope a deviljho eats them. This probably means wii u is getting back on its feet with good game sales going up

    • Elem187

I was pretty skeptical Monster Hunter would sell very well in the west, looks like I’m wrong.. I can’t wait to see the numbers.

      • dylanbob121

I hope it will be very close to japan sales

  • mchelski

well, I really hope nintendo bring Wii U officially to Brazil ASAP since it’s becoming a great market for games, for now I have been buying from canada everything

    • ICHI

There were some news stories late last year about nintendo trying to re negotiate sales in china again and some conformation they were looking into untapped territories. I hope your dream becomes a reality as more areas the system is sold the more likely a large user base can be reached.

      • Chris Kattner

In fact Nintendo has been selling here in China for quite a while, but they go by the name IQue. The problem is they can only sell portables though because consoles are banned by the ministry of culture. But i hear Microsoft is putting the pressure on to change this.

        • ICHI

I know about the ique it has limited games for the systems too, think the only console like ique was for N64, which i tried to buy when in 2003 i was in hong kong, but no-one knew what i was talking about. It would be good then if it is microsoft primarily pushing for sales as they have the money and influence to make a go of it. πŸ™‚

  • I have faith in nintendo and the Wii U. They are never going to fail. They know what they’re doing, trust me.

    • Microsoft by the sounds of their next gen console will fail. So really saying Nintendo won’t fail is like saying fire is warm, its pretty obvious they won’t fail… AT ALL!!

      • I don’t quite understand you but yeah !

        • I’m saying that its obvious that Nintendo won’t fail because they have been know to be the top dog despite the power difference. I love the Wii U and I can’t wait to get my PlayStation 4 but the Wii U will still dominate the next gen

          • Oh, okay

          • Elem187

There might be a crash in the video game industry soon. Nintendo looks poised to survive it by seling at or near cost. Microsoft/Sony could be in a very sticky situation by taking a loss leader approach.

There won’t be a crash. It’s not like hundreds of millions of people will just stop bothering with games.

  • I saw the Monster Hunter 3 WiiU bundle in my local games store in the Netherlands (Deluxe WiiU, Monster Hunter 3U, pro controller, heck you know the drill)

I went there for Tales of the Abyss for my 3DS (love it so far) sticked around there a bit, got a coffee from the store owner, and while I was there for like an hour 3 WiiU MH3U bundles where sold πŸ™‚

I don’t have €378,- available at this times, so I did not buy it, maybe June for me, even though I’m in doubt whether or not to buy the 3DS version for the time being. No need to deny for me but I also LOVE MH, but playing the demo on 3DS, I can only say I hate the controls for it on 3DS, so prefer the WiiU edition.

    • I live in the Netherlands too !

      • Nice, so it seems I’m not the only Dutchy here πŸ˜‰ well I knew that for a bit allready, but reading your comment it seems there are atleast 3 people from the Netherlands around here, nice to see fellow country members here πŸ™‚

        • Jup πŸ˜›

        • Nintedward

Holland is the best , guys! Just putting that out there. i’m a fan of the football , food , Amsterdamn etc .

          • haha everyone loves Amsterdam πŸ˜› As for the football/soccer Brasil even calls our football/soccer team Orangina Mechanica, which if translated correct means “Mechanical Orange”

I’m proud to be Dutch myself as well, even though the country does have it’s negative sid. I guess all countries have that πŸ™‚

        • how about a fellow nederlands spreker. Suriname in the house

          • hmm Suriname, it’ll do I suppose πŸ˜‰

Nah just kidding, I’m glad to see there are plenty of Dutch speaking people, Dutchies, Belgians, Surinamers (hopefully I name the Surinamers right in English?)

Never felt lonely here as a dutch/english speaking person (and some German at it) but good to see so many more are around, so I’ll like to bring out a toast on MH3U selling systems, to the Dutch speaking people and the Holland lovers πŸ˜‰

            Cheers all.

        • sharlo galmo

I also leav in the netherlands dude hihi. Fire emblem what a nice game. And luigi manson also awsome game. Nintendo still number one in making games

    • Nintedward

Well you can buy the 3DS version and then transfer your data from 3DS to Wiiu or vice versa! I play monster Hunter on the road and at home. it’s marvelous.

Tales of the abyss is incredible! One of the best games I played on 3DS. Took me 70 hours to finish XD . A LONG LONG game especially if you do all the side content…. I give that game 9/10 although it’s not to everyones taste…

      • I’m considering it for sure, even though I’ll just use 3DS version to steam my char ready for WiiU online mode πŸ™‚ To bad I can’t transfer MHtri data to my 3DS or for others to their WiiU.

        • Elem187

If you like Tales games and MH3U, have you tried Fire Emblem: Awakening? I haven’t been able to put it down, at least until I bought Monster Hunter, and now I can’t put that down.

  • nigeriangamer

price cuts does not make a console sell, good games make a game sell.and this is an example of it.nintendo should just make sure they bring a banger or two every month and they will be fine.this isnt the first time this has happened and still they survived. NINTENDO FTW!!! πŸ™‚

    • NkoSekirei

not too many or we some bad ones like aliens colonial marines and i rather have then take their time making quaility games then rush ones

    • Revolution5268

um i rather wait than get a game every two months.

      • Silent

Same situation with me and my 3ds. Current game: Luigis mansion 2 Next Game: Animal Crossing: NL which comes out in June(three months from now).

  • AAAkabob

This genuinely put a smile on my face.

    • Nintedward

But it was common sense. Wiiu sold a shit ton in its first 2 weeks. cus millions of dedicated Nintendo fans bought their wiiu. Why would they wait until half way through January or February ? Others are simply waiting for the games before they buy or still saving up or whatever .

Lego city is at number 4 in USA charts. Number 4 with a 4 month old installed base is mighty impressive , it might as well be number 1.

Wiiu is at – 3.5-4.0M sold roughly as we speak. Who wants to bet me a million pounds that By 31st december 2013 , Wiiu will have sold more than the 8.0M the xbox 360 sold in its first year ? EDIT – Watchdogs , Resident evil , AC4 , Project cars , Injustice and much more also….

Pikmin 3 , Wonderfull 101 , e3 Games , Wii fit U , Game and Wario , Mario kart (possibly) , Holiday season sales , Price drop USA ? , and more reasons the Wiiu will sell a healthy amount.

Then we will get articles saying”how Nintendo turned the Wiiu around” which is just as preposterous as the doom articles today.

      • Revolution5268

like i said games do the talk.

      • jcnba28

Everyone buy a Wii U so we can beat the record! πŸ˜€

        • done my part!

          • teknik1200

it’s really hard to stop playing monster hunter long enough to reply here.

          • Elem187

That’s my problem. I can’t put it down…. I rented Lego City, only played 3 hours because I kept thinking about Monster Hunter the entire time.

          • Arthur Jarret

I had it the other way around. Started playing Monster Hunter last week (preordered it) and bought Lego city online because I didn’t have any more money this month (I can pay later with this particular online retailer).

Got it last saturday, and wanted to play it for an hour before getting back to monster hunter.

Long story short: I finished Lego city yesterday and haven’t touched monster hunter…

          • MadCrain

Don’t have it yet, if I did, I wouldn’t even be here xD

      • Jake

Problem is PS4 and Xbox 720. Watchdogs , Resident evil, AC4, Project cars, Injustice are all on Microsoft and Sony consoles. But what they don’t have, you said some of them, is Pikmin 3 Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Game and Wario, The legend of zelda Wind Waker, Wii Party U, and Xenoblade. Let’s hope games like Mario Kart, 3D mario, Smash bros, Bayonetta 2, Shin Megami X Fire Emblem, Yarn Yoshi and Pokemon Rumble U come out this year. If you count both that is 14 exclusives (more in E3) and 3 1/2 (more at e3) are 3rd Party. And of course other games are sniper Elite, Rayman, Tom Clancy and all the ones you said. That is, together, is 22 AAA games. Wii U is not close to death.

        • DragonSilths

Watch Dogs, AC4, Project Cars, Injustice, and Resident Evil Revelations are all on the Wii U to…

        • Silent

Basically, Nintendo has some of the best IP worldwide. If you ask people about bioshock or ratchet and clank, most people wont know what you are talking about. If you ask them about mario, luigi or pikachu, most people will at least know what you are talking about. Its all on the popularity.

Only 30 years of hard work can get you that πŸ™‚

          • Silent

            30 years of advertisement.

and great games to back those ads up.

          • Silent

True. Time goes by so fast doesnt it…

Far too quick. I hope Miyamoto have some big up his sleeve for his next new IP.

        • MetroidZero

          Bayonetta 2, a Wii U exclusive.

        • a lot of people have been saying ps4 and wii u seems like the way to go. I’m just happy wii u made it in there

          • I agree. Last gen I got a Wii, then a PS3 a few years later. This gen I’m going with Wii U and PS4. Xbox, again, can suck it. Xbox is like a low-end PC that can’t play PC exclusives and only has few notable exclusives of it’s own. All of their IPs wind up on PC in the long run. What a pointless console.

Nintendo and Sony rule when it comes to the games I’m interested in playing. Nintendo has innovation, Sony has semi decent hardware. They both have great exclusives. Xbox is made for spoiled American yo boys who aren’t into gaming or gaming culture, instead they just want to play what’s current, then get rid of it when the next over-hyped game comes out.

        • Elem187

I don’t see the need to ever own a Microsoft or Sony console… Multiplat games on PC s&% all over console gaming when it comes to microsoft and sony fangirls favorite thing GRAAAAPHICS.

Nintendo is the only platform maker that actually makes types of games you cannot get anywhere else…. Sony’s exclusives are just clones of multiplat games…. Uncharted? It was originally called TOMB RAIDER. Killzone? Its a generic shooter, there is fifty billion of them, pick one. Gran Turismo? Project Cars, or any of the modern racing sims will do. The exclusives at Sony can easily be substituted for just about any multiplat game… Microsoft exclusives, already wind up on PC eventually. PC has more exclusives than Sony or Microsoft combined.

But you can only get 1 system that plays Nintendo exclusives.

          • greengecko007

PC gaming is great for graphics, and mods, and that’s about it in my opinion. A lot of popular games now seem to be designed for consoles in mind. I think the PC elite crowd that sit at their high end PC with a ps360 controller plugged are just hilarious. PC elite my butt.

        • lonewolf88

watch dogs resident evil ac4 and injustice are all coming to wii U and its said that wii U has the best version of watch dogs

      • gobrowniesgo
        • Nintenjoe82

There’s predictions Pachter would be proud of in there!

      • cusman

I think once the Wii U OS isn’t so freaking slow (patch coming in April), the word of mouth and local game party type scenarios will also drive some more of the casual sales.

        • Word of mouth and actually playing the console says a lot… I had one friend run out and get a Wii U already and my brother came over the other night and says he will probably get one soon because he enjoyed the console.

      • Only a few are true gamers

Wow im number 70 thumbs up awesome man

      • greengecko007

It was common sense for Monster Hunter to be successful because of the current library of games the Wii U has. Imagine if this had been released after everything you just listed. It would have been an ignored title among Watch Dogs, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Pikmin 3, etc. Wii U owners are desperate for games now.

    • [000]

This article was actually a few days late. Think of the hate that could have been avoided!

      • Elem187

Don’t worry the sony and microsoft fangirls will still bring the vile hate they harbor for Nintendo… You would think Nintendo slept with their sister and didn’t have the common courtesy to call her the next day or something with the way they act towards the company.

    • Billy_Perry

I agree that this is exactly what the Wii U needs. And that this is fantastic news. However, a 125% increase on nothing is still nothing. Its still going to be not a lot of units. Hopefully this has effected global Wii U sales by a bit more. πŸ˜€

      • Elem187

Its impressive considering its a third party game driving the sales…. Sony passed on paying for the localisations of Monster Hunter, and Nintendo decided to pony up for it. Nintendo won this round of 3rd party exclusives.

    • [000]

Has anyone noticed how few downvotes there are on this article? It looks like trolls only feed on the negative news. Now they’re speechless.

  • JB

A few more system sellers like this awesome game, maybe we can finally put this whole “Wii U is dead” nonsense to rest! I truly believe things will start picking up for N after E3, provided we get some killer news, and concrete release dates from them!

    • Cerus98

It won’t matter. The trolls are here to troll no matter what. It will only get worse when the PS4 and Nextbox launch. They will both suffer from all the supposed failures of the Wii U but they’ll be instantly forgiven and won’t be mentioned in “articles” every other day. In their eyes the Nintendo systems are for kids and if they admit to owning one they won’t look cool in front of their buddies. Remember that’s the only important thing in life – to look cool.

The Wii has sold a crapload more systems and games than the PS3/360. It was extremely reliable from day one as are all Nintendo systems. While the PS3/360 were plagued with hardware failures, slow sales and little profits. But the Wii is sill trashed many times a day. Nature of the beast. Best we can do is just ignore them.

      • Silent

Just saying, you can play whatever you want when you are fourteen like me but if you are an adult and people see you playing pokemon, you reputation is ruined. And when you are an adult, the only thing you can hold on to is your reputation. Therefore, looking cool for teenagers is crap, for adults, its a success or failure thing.

        • jkalyj

The funny thing is. Is that those people who say they don’t like kiddy stuff really do. They’re just lying to themselves XD. There are people who are in their 60’s playing Pokemon (i’ve met a few). You can’t hate the unhateable lol. People like to put on a show nowdays, but the ideals of the young cling to people much longer now than the old days. Just cause you get older doesn’t mean you have to live your life as a bore.. same goes for games… no one can hate you for playing pokemon, mario, pikmin and the like..because their undesputably fun, and in many cases extremely hard… (comet challenge for Granmaster galaxy in Mario galaxy 2 anyone?)

          • Dgander

Agree with you 100%. The same people that complain about kiddy stuff in video games go to Disney Land and Six Flags and jump up and down just like everyone else there.

          • Silent

If you are an adult and another adult sees you playing pokemon, 90% of the time they will think something bad about yourself that may not be true. This is why I encourage to play these games at home where you make the rules.

          • Chris Kattner

Mmm thats not really true. Most people i know could care less about what game im playing. The majority of adults dont care about whats cool. When you grow up youll find there are other things far more important, and that most game all look the same to people who dont play them.

          • WiiUltra

When you become an adult you’ll see that random people don’t give a damn about you. If they see something they are not a fan of they will just give you a weird look. Adults have more important things to do than to dwell on seeing another adult play pokemon. Its whatever.

          • Elem187

Pokemon is a bit after my time, Mario/Zelda were cool when I was a kid in 1986 πŸ˜‰
I can careless if people see me playing Mario or Zelda today.. I’m getting my wife into it now, she loves mario.

        • Dgander

My best advice for you as a 27 year old is do what you like and put yourself first. Im not saying dont hang out with them but if they really are your friends they will respect your decisions. Those same people that want to peer pressure you wont do anything to keep you happy. Try to do the right thing and be real with yourself always.

        • Only a few are true gamers

I play pokemon my sons play pokemon..fckem I could care less about what people think all the games on the wii u are awesome so far

        • Cerus98

Far more important things as an adult than reputation. Family for starters. That’s the big difference between being an adult and a child. Kids only care about what other people think of them while the majority of adults couldn’t care less, I certainly don’t. I’m 34 years old and am a big Dragon Ball fan, have been for decades. Couldn’t care less what others might think of it. I’ve played every Mario, Pikmin, Zelda and DBZ game. They aren’t my only games of choice though I draw the line at anything COD – way overrated IMO. PC games, consoles, handhelds, mobile etc. Makes no difference to me as long as I find the games fun.

I taught my 3 year old (not that it really required teaching, kids these days) how to play Wii Sports bowling last X-mas and look forward to teaching my own son how to play in a couple more years. With any luck he will share my love of DB as well. Fun is whats its all about.

      • Elem187

That is pretty sad that people care what their friends think… I guess i”m just getting old (in my 30’s) and I could give a rats butt what any of my friends think. I personally think people are insane to buy a microsoft/sony console when PC gaming just s%^ over anything sony and microsoft will ever be able to do on a console (the PS4 is using parts from a low end PC gaming rig, its sad actually)

        • Cerus98

It’s pretty much down to exclusives and the easier gameplay that consoles have. People who brag about how good they are at a FPS on PS3 or 360 would get raped on the console version. Can’t say I’d invest in a second 55″ LEDTV just for my desktop and I’d miss my comfy recliner. PCs and consoles both have their place. πŸ™‚

    • Revolution5268

sorry to be the bad news thats not going to happen. the wii was selling good and the journalist still release some nintendo doom articles.

      • JB

That’s true, but at least there will be at least enough good news to negate the bad. You’d think I’d be used to the doom news, journalists has been spewing it since the N64 days. I think anyone with their head screwed on straight knows that Nintendo’s not going anywere anytime soon (even amongst the the trolliest of Nintendo trolls). Without Nintendo and the original NES (and Famicon) The video game landscape today would be extremely different, if it actually existed in some form.

        • Revolution5268

“You’d think I’d be used to the doom news, journalists has been spewing it since the N64 days.”

you are wrong they did this before nes came out, they were “predicting” nes will not sell well due to video game crash aftermath.
same with snes claiming that sega will overthrown them and make them go out of business. n64=doom because of “no cd rom”
but yeah you are right people with brain know that nintendo is not going anywhere and bother me why people have this grudge on nintendo.

          • JB

You’re right, Nintendo has always had more than it’s fair share of hate before coming out the gate, but things didn’t really ramp up until the N64 days because when they decided to stick with cartridges, then that’s when all of the “Nintendo is out of touch with the trend” garbage started.

I generally don’t count what they predicted about the NES because let’s face it, that’s to be expected after the video game crash, I don’t think anyone at the time would have thought that the NES would do as well as it did, let alone single-handedly save the industry.

I generally chalk up SNES doom and gloom to hyper fanboyism because we all know the about the “Great War of the Fourth Console Generation” between Nintendo and Sega. Everything was sensationalized concerning both companies. Of course we know how that turned out…

          • Revolution5268

XD now that was ancient time.

      • Elem187

The doom articles are unwarranted. Nintendo will probably be around a lot longer than Sony/Microsoft are in the console space.
Microsoft/Sony take a loss leader approach where they take a massive hit on every console sold, and try to make up the losses with software sales, so to hit those numbers they must sell gigantic numbers (75-100 million) before they make back the money lost.
Nintendo sells their consoles at or near cost. By the time the end of the year rolls around the costs of manufacturing the console should come down below their asking price and they will start profiting on each system sold. Some analysts are predicting a crash in the video game industry sometime this gen. If a crash does happen, which company do you think would survive it? Is it the companies that rely on 100 million systems sold just to break even? or the company that is pretty much profitable most of the time? If I were to bet, I’d put it all on Nintendo surviving the crash.

        • Revolution5268

  • zhenyaivan

was wondering when you guys are gonna put this up XD

  • The Clockwork Being

Retailers should have been expecting this when slashing the prices. I mean the MH series has always sold well. Now the retailers trolled themselves by: Putting the prices down and not making a lot of profit. But in this same mistake they made, they just gave Nintendo what they needed. I mean now Nintendo has a lot more Wii U owners. I’m really happy with this article but im sadly thinking the retailers are going to put the prices up again seeing how the Wii U sales are going up.

  • Despite the game only having minor changes it still sales more than most modern game… this is why I love owning a Wii U

I said that comment because I felt the game wasn’t much different from the original game on Wii but that is a good thing because it proves that graphics aren’t what a game needs to sale. So stop taking my comments like I’m hating on the system, I love the Wii U.

    • zhenyaivan

      Minor? wat?

      • It doesn’t look much different from Tri, just a few upgraded textures here and there into HD but other than that its pretty much the same with some added features. Why the heck did I get thumbs down when I said I LOVE owning a Wii U -_-

        • zhenyaivan

i thought you were talking about the content, and not the graphics, my bad.

        • NkoSekirei

u forgot new dragons to slay and tons of new armor, weapons to forge too and new areas to hunt as well

          • Nah I know, I was just talking about the graphics because even though the games graphics aren’t a big improvement the game is still amazingly fun and scored incredibly high.

  • MetroidZero

“Wii U is doomed” hecklers can clam it.

  • Ironically enough as haters and trolls say “Nintendo consoles are not for 3rd bleh party games bleh bleh bleh” “Third party games don’t sell on Nintendo systems” “no wonder devs don’t make games on Nintendo systems because they don’t sell” “Nintendodrones only buy Nintendo games”, “R.I.P. PEEU”, “NINTENDO IS DOOMED” and more of that nonsense, yet a third party game becomes available and it more then doubles the system sales.

So another futile argument down then drain, live with it Trolls and Haters.

    • NkoSekirei

trolls are wrong about not getting third party games we go watch dogs, assassin creed 4 and several others as well and probably more to come

      • We know that indeed, but try to talk that into the thick skulls of the haters and the Trolls πŸ˜‰

    • Colin Tosh

Not just Monster Hunter on Wii U. The Wii version (and in fact most Capcom releases) met with good sales. Resident Evil 4 and Tatsunoko being two examples. GTA Chinatown Wars actually sold better on DS (over 1 million) then on PSP. Rockstar even said it would have done better but piracy on DS prevented it. In fact their handhelds have never had problems with third parties.

Fact is there is an audience for these games on Nintendo. Its just up to the people who own other systems to buy them on Wii U. I will as long as they give me the option. It isn’t Nintendo fans to blame. It is the people who own Microsoft and Sony consoles as well who don’t buy the games when they get the option.

    • Most of my wiiu games are 3rd party and I’m buying all of my big 3rd party games on the wiiu its tablet makes it better

      • Maddoggwolfenden

Im with you. I got Black Ops2, Mass Effect 3 (should have been trilogy tho, Shame on you Bioware) and Assaisns Creed 3. And I just bought Need for Speed and its the best car game I have owned since Burnout 2 and I loved that game!

Also all this press about Frostbyte 3 and Unreal 4 engines is bull as well as both Engine will run on Wii U they just have to have some coding changed like they do when they get adapted to work on PS3 and 360 from PC. It may not look as good as a high spec PC but if thats what you want then but a high end pc.

Wii U is about good games and having fun.

I really have high hopes for the next Nintendo Direct. I have a feeling Nintendo may tease a few sneaky peeks at stuff that will be shown at E3.

        • Dude I totally agree with you I’m enjoying the hell out of the wiiu. All the games that are announced to hit this fall most of them I’m buying on it. Creed 4, watch dogs, batman (if so), the next sonic title and many others we know they will hit the U. I bet metal gear solid 5 does as well they haven’t said no to it yet

      • adamm

Agreed, I buy on Wii U if there’s the option. Even on games that don’t utilize the touch screen very actively, it’s always still been a big plus (like the maps and real-time powers menu in ME3).

  • it was always only a matter of time people panic too much.
When wii drops its aaa titles sales will go bananas, remember it does not need to compete with xbox or ps next gen systems.
It is something different from two very similar machines.

  • Revolution5268

see bitches i told you dropping the wii u price is not going to help anyone but releasing GOOD QUALITY GAMES is what gamers want, not high tech powerful console (like ps4) i seen this with the 3ds again same fate. how is people forgetting the 3ds situation same with xbox 360 and ps3 at launch window?

    • PlayStation 4 really isn’t much more powerful, sure its more powerful than the Wii U but not by much. Also, you do get some of those “gamers” who are graphics whores who want more power than good quality games. I’m sure both the Wii U and the PS4 will do well next gen, Wii U will probably be top dog but I think they will both do well ^^

      • zhenyaivan

        PS4 specs aren’t finalized

        • Well they are the announced specs so really they’ll be the final specs, I believe they mean by the speed the CPU will run at and even then the Wii U will pretty much only be a small step behind the Wii U because from what I’ve seen from Bayonetta 2 in the teaser trailer the graphics look on par with a basic PS4 game which is pretty amazing.

      • NkoSekirei

sony know if they over priced their system around $500 or above they would be digging their own grave and for 720 i heard its basiclly requires online connection to play games and more kinect as well

        • Sony knows not to do the same mistake but Microsoft, they are already digging their own graves.

          • NkoSekirei

i dont know dude i hardly doubt sony will do it right this time cause last time i heard that price for ps4 was around $500 bucks cause wen u have a built in blu ray dvd player and expensive specs its gonna boost the price up.

          • Well you think about it, they are using PC parts this time round meaning manufactioning costs will be lower so the price will probably be somewhere between $300 to $450.

          • Barters

They are using a PC architecture. But the parts are made specifically for the PS4.

          • Still, it will be cheaper than the PS3

          • DragonSilths

PS4 wont be less then $599.99. It most it will be $799.99.

      • Nintedward

Wiiu has closed the gap on Sony .

        Wii – 4GB discs PS3 -25/50GB discs Wii – 480p max PS3- 720p/1080p
        Wiiu – 25/50GB discs PS4 – 50GB discs Wiiu – 1080p max PS4 – 1080p max

That alone meens the gap has been reduced 10 fold.

        • Well PS4 can actually do slightly better than the Wii U in terms of graphics but I see what you mean since the native resolutions on both platforms are 1080p and to be honest I think both consoles will do great

          • Nintedward

PS3 was better than Wii in every way (hardware wise). This time Nintendo is even on resolution and disc storage. the PS4 is stronger than Wiiu though in Processing and graphics. No denying that.

BUT the gap between Wii and PS3 is no more.

        • NkoSekirei

wii u runs on 2011 specs that out beats wat ps3 and 360 cause they run on 2005 to 2006 specs wen they came out at the end of 2006

        • jkalyj

Thing is Sony seemed to kinda overshoot their consoles abilities for this generation…describing it as matching a PC is quite the statement. but for what games are now it seems..excessive. which is why i think Sony means to have a 10 year lasting console as opposed to a 5~6 year like they stated last year…would also make some general sense as to why they don’t have a traditional backwards compatibility. realistically though both consoles no doubt are capabable of whats to come in the future… our eyes can only see so much before we stop caring about how perfectly textured and lighted a game is XD.

  • Link Slayer

Same article last month if Rayman Legends would have came out! And sales would be strong this month for this.

  • Colin Tosh

The games matter. When the others don’t sell to expectations and Wii U is way ahead in sales the other consoles will be dropped like a tonne of bricks.

  • david jarman

  • marth175

Hey sorry for being off topic but can you guys please answer this survey for a class? Im doing an investigation on video game sales. Thanks!

    • I helped you out on the survey maybe more people will help you out on it I dunno. But seems like this is a good article to request some help on a survey from gamers I assume πŸ™‚

      • marth175

        Thanks for the support!

    • Revolution5268

i did the survey, hope it helps.

  • dylanbob121

Maybe not just MH.Maybe the 3 best games that hit the shelves in the time period of 2 days.(lcu,MH,NFSMWU)

  • sdmac200600

I’m sorry to rain on your parades but you guys do know that last week the wii u sold only a little over 6,000 (in the UK that is) and this week it sold close to 15,000. NOT 15,000, close to 15,000. I don’t think that is something to be very happy about……

    • Yes, it’s not as high as it could be but you also know close to 15k is about 2.5 times more units in a week compared to the week before. It’s definitely not as good as it should be but for one game sales increase by almost 150% in one week is pretty good.

Question remains will it stay or increase at this rate, well probably not, but it’s a good sales boost even if it lasts for one month. Atleast that’s how I see it, given 15K is not even close to 150K as Wii easily did in a week. But it’s for a change decent good news instead of the doom and gloom articles all the time.

      • sdmac200600

Yeah I’m not taking away from MH boostin wii u sales but it isn’t really anything to be happy when only less than 15,000 units were sold. but it’s a start. At least the sales are going up.

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

What’s great about this news…Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate isn’t just a third party game, it’s an upgraded port of an old game and yet this title alone skyrockets Wii U sales. Imagine what the new Mario Kart, Super Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 will do for the Wii U’s sales! :-))))))

  • Should that equate to 1.25 million units?

  • InterTreble

More games, more sales. So simple. No matter with gigabytes and gigahertzs, as Nintendo haters love to troll everywhere… Just games. And Nintendo’s ar the best ones, by far. Only on Wii U. I’d wait to say the last word above this console… It’s an error they already did, with Wii and DS, as an example…

  • Joel

What a pleasant surprise, perhaps the Wii U has a chance after all. Still getting the PS4, though.

    • Well that’s your preference, it doesn’t matter to Nintendo as long as the Wii U keeps selling well.

      • Joel

Hey, I have a Wii U, and I enjoyed it for the first three months. But then the PS4 was shown, and just how inferior the Wii U was compared to the competition, it’s the Wii all over again, but without the casual gamers to save Nintendo this time. I’ll wait for any news on games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros to be excited about the Wii U. Until then, most of my Wii U will probably be spent playing Skylanders: Giants.

        • Okay, but look back at the 5th gen with the PS1 vs the N64, the PS1 was a huge success despite it being half as powerful. Now look at the 6th gen, PS2 vs GC/Xbox, still half as powerful as the others but got all the games. The DS vs the PSP only further supports my argument. Look now at the 3DS vs the Vita, the vita hasn’t even broke 3 million yet.

Now Nintendo still has time to turn things around, and since the Wii U can still support UE4 and may cost less, developers will flock to where ever the money is as proven with what I just mentioned above.

  • Teves153

    Finally some good news πŸ˜€

I think that MH3U has a lot to do with it bumping up sales. BUT I also think having the 3 other games released last week which happen to be to first in months to be released on the U had as much to do with it as anything. I know I picked up 3 of them and made game-reviews on all of them on my youtube channel.

I also think that Ubisoft made a mistake by not releasing Rayman Legends when it was supposed too because that would have had many U owners pick up that game and the U because nothing was in its competition at that time, it will be different in the fall with everything launching on the all the consoles plus the new console as well, the game might not get the “TADA!!!” it probably should have opening up on the U.

  • great deku tree

already knew this was going to happen when the big games start coming out which means that this will be the best time for people to get a wii u before the prices start going up again when the good games start coming out.

  • Zelly Jeffers

If you release more awesome games, they will come.

I’d never played a Monster Hunter game before but I am addicted. Even got the 3DS version as well so I could play in bed, or when my boyfriend’s playing Wii U. I absolutely love it, and I wish I had gotten into the series before. It always seemed a bit intimidating, but the tutorials are awesome.

  • Linskarmo

It’s great that sales have picked up. Hopefully they’ll keep doing so.

Is Monster Hunter 3 U. like the demo for the most part? Cause I felt very lost in the demo.

    • gobrowniesgo

No. The demo is just the jist of it. The game looks n runs better. It doesn’t just throw you in to the fight, lt shows you the ropes. lt’s fun. The only thing l have a gripe with is that the text is small. But not unreadable..

      • Linskarmo

Thanks for the reply. I’ll do some more research, and then I might get the game.

        • gobrowniesgo

          why not just ask miiverse?

  • Silent

And the Wii U is done……YEAH RIGHT!!

    • It is. Did US numbers rise?

      • Silent

I was really going to write a long answer but i decided to summarize all my emotions in one pair of words. F*ck You

  • dreamer3kx

Definitely will be a temp bump, I hope it rolls over but Im not betting on it.

  • Justin Gray

I noticed when I log Monster Hunter and Black Ops 2 in the same night that there is more people playing Monster Hunter already and it has been out a little over a week and Black Ops over 4 months. If you think you are a “hard core gamer” try this one on for size. It will beat you into submission and prove that newer games can be challenging.

  • Matt Jarvis

and so the fight back begins……..

    • It’s still not good. If it was selling 25,000 a month, then that would mean it only increased to 62,000. That still put’s it in Shitsville.

      • Jimmy D. Fugate

Do you tell little kids that Santa Claus isn’t real? Or take binkies out of babies mouths and laugh?

  • David Rampa

no surprise, the games fucking awesome.

  • gobrowniesgo
    • Lol.

      • gobrowniesgo

Yeah, l was looking for N.A sales numbers and l came across that article..You would think they would be praising the analyst’s for being right..

  • Well, that the UK and France. Since US figures were not mentioned, I assume that the needle has not moved.

    • Well see when official sales figures are release for this month.

    • Nintedward

American Wiiu sales are doing excellently.Due to Lego city , Monster Hunter. Do your research.

      • Lol. If it were doing that well, you would not tell me to look it up, you would be bragging about it.

    • Kyle Berger

all I can say is wooooooooooooooooooooow

  • Anthony K Aurelia

See Ubisoft..should have just released Rayman when you were supposed to. Now it’ll be overshadowed by GTA V and Wind Waker….could have sold plenty and saved the money from porting.

  • Dangdilly

Boo! Hiss! Nintendo must fall so my cock may rise!

    • Johny

haha this made my day… (after having only 2 hours of sleep last night and playing 16+ hours of monster hunter in 1 day)

      • Dangdilly

*takes a bow* Thank you my good sir. With such dour comments I thought a good penis joke was in order.

  • MujuraNoKamen

Nice to hear good news for a change πŸ™‚ If MH3 tripled Wii U sales then I can’t wait to see what Lego City did here!

  • Johny

Monster hunter is DEFINATELY a system seller for MANY… then Lego city have been said to be quite a masterpiece and also definately a system seller
    and its only the beggining.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

Need for Speed Most Wanted U was great too!

      • sithWiiU

        It’s a port.

        • hellomello123

Pc port. Ps3 can’t do that.

        • Johny

and its an awesome port… its how a game ported to wii u should be

  • Ibi Salmon

The bundles probably helped. Still hoping for those bundles to come to North America.

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

    After e3 2013, thats when I decide to buy a Wii U.

  • I hope this awakens some third-party developers out there to just how much this is a good reason why they should support the Wii U.

You’d think all hesitant third-party developers would realize how much of a gold mine they’re sitting on with the current state of the Wii U’s sales. They’re like a bunch of talented chefs who won’t serve people who haven’t eaten in a week but willing to buy their food, and all simply because these chefs already have customers who eat there every Tuesday. They’re either blind or stupid if they can’t see how much a making a move on the Wii U with something big while the scene is quiet will pay off big.

While sales of the Wii U has suffered lately, you still have millions of Wii U owners out there…starving for any kind of fresh hot food. There have been times I’ve been so hungry, I’ve eaten food I didn’t like, just to enjoy eating again. You get hungry enough, hungry becomes the best sauce.

You’d think developers would say, “Hmm, if I release a high-profile title on the Wii U right now, even just one, those current owners will eat it up.” The more original and genre-blending you make the game, the more of those millions of hungry Wii U owners you’ll entice.

Don’t just whip together yet-another box of “Instant FPS” or “Just Add Water RPGs” sort of games–make an RPG with FPS elements where you can use race against other players online after natural resources where you can build a tower-defense stronghold at that you have to micromanage. Make that sucker awesome! Who the heck wouldn’t buy that game? I’d put my left kidney for auction on the black market for that game!

And all you’d have to do is just announce that you’re making something like that. Just tell us some of the ingredients. Just let the game’s base ingredients sautΓ© a bit in the pan. You know how much hungry gamers hang onto every screenshot, even the early ones? Heck, we even salivate over scribbled concept art. Those hungry will grow hungrier while you’re cooking it, and pretty soon, you’re dish will start to smell pretty good even to people across the street who weren’t even hungry.

Sure, you can do this “cooking” with any console out or coming, but doing it on the Wii U is the best way. You want to sell to the hungriest first–they’ll buy the fastest. They’ll come back for seconds, if you’re quick enough about making more. You start with the ones already looking at a clean plate, wondering what they’re going to eat–they’re going to appreciate you the most.

People are more willing to buy food when they’re at their hungriest, and they’ll be hungry again–make an awesome dish, and you’ve made two sales. You’ll develop something more better than one mere sale–you’ll develop loyalty. Your biggest repeat customers are the ones you left the strongest good impression on.

And other people are attracted to places that treat their loyal customers well. Customers attract customers. You’d think all these third-party game developers–especially with so many of them feeling the strain of the growing demands in gaming–would hope on Wii U like a cat on a laser pointer.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some real food to go cook. I just analogized myself right into literal hunger.

    • Guest

…Aaaaand just like that, my current smaller independent game project’s direction has changed. Dang, sometimes hunger ain’t just a good sauce–it’s the best darn cook, too!

      New plan, boys!

    • Zelly Jeffers

So flipping true. Instead, I keep reading articles where developers say, “It’s too risky” which, to me, honestly just translates as “I’m lazy, I want to make a quick buck. I don’t want to take any chances though.”

  • Dominic Coradazzi

And thus, MH3U becomes a system seller

  • Dominicruz

I have higg hopes about wii U Just wait until e3

    E3 just wait and see

  • ICHI

Now hopefully worldwide sales of MH will get nintendo to convince capcom to release a full console HD sequel, hell even a quick port of MH4 later this year would bring even more people into the wii u family

  • Jimmy D. Fugate

I am glad that MH3U, NFSMWU and LCU all helps the Wii U out his month. Next comes Injustice, RE Revelations, Deus Ex, Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101. And for all those saying “Wii U is doomed” lets wait ’til after E3 as Nintendo would not even consider dropping support for Wii U until after they’d release those games.

  • Kyle Berger

I know this is very off topic, but examiner recently put up this article. I’m not trying to make everyone rage, but to be honest I was very close to being offended by this.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

I read that article too. Very unprofessional journalism. Wii U or not, you should do your best not to sound biased it what you write. He could’ve insulted Xbox 360 and it still would’ve been just as shockingly stupid.

      • That’s the problem today with most bloggers. They cannot be professional and I understand it is an opinion site but hate for Nintendo seems to be very abundant and I believe it is because of fear.

    • Yeah, I just saw that earlier. I wonder what his problem was, he didn’t sound professional at all if he used the term “fanboys”. He must not have seen this:

    • DingoWalley

Yeah, no, Gen’s =/= Power. Gen’s = Time. No one has ever said Gens = Power until this Gen, and it is a misguided lie that has sadly become a slogan for certain people who don’t appreciate the WiiU or Nintendo in General.

Also notice that the Ouya, which is basically an Android Phone in Console form, has not been called a Last Gen console or anything…

    • hellomello123

I’ve talked to the author of that article several times,he is very biased. I asked him in december why hhe thought the wii u was doomed. He saud because it barely does wii graphics and forces you to use the wii remotes in every game and that nintendo isn’t using blu ray so therefore they are doomed to make zelda and mario games for xbox 720 later in 2013. He’s a load of bull hockey.

    • Bloggers insult Nintendo because they are afraid of Nintendo. It is no secret that the PS4 and XBOX720 will have more power than the Wii U but a lot of that is irrelevant. To some all that defines a generation is better graphics never minding that some of these polished games are nothing but crap is a graphically pleasing shell. The fact that the Unreal4 engine can run on the Wii U but epic is choosing not to shows that they are afraid and think if they do not develop for Nintendo they will go away silently so they can stick to telling Sony and Microsoft what to do. Nintendo likes to be unique and offer something new aside from ONLY better graphics and that scares the developers and publishers that only try to lure mindless gamers in with better graphics.

  • david jarman
  • Gabe Hoffman

Funny how almost no major sites such as IGN and Joystiq have mentioned this news. Instead they make a party of how Wii U can’t run UE4 which have been proven 100% BS

  • this is good to hear so I might end up buying mh3, nintendo needs to keep good games comeing and get them out

  • david jarman
  • Mickey Mouse

Don’t forget it’s not just MH that has increased Wii U sales, but LEGO City Undercover too, it’s an awesome game. I wouldn’t buy a Wii U because of MH.

  • dylanbob121

Nintendo buys out halo=all micro fanboys will come crawling

    • Petri

      please… no…

I’d rather have them buy platinum games or sega.

      • Jimmy D. Fugate

        Or Square Enix.

        • Petri

I dont know. Maybe too big, would be too expensive for what its worth.

  • Tobias Naustdal

    now im angry!

you people (most likely an american) always say europe than just show the uk!

you guys do know that there is 47 countries in europe? right?!

Kinslay, i do enjoy your posts and keep them coming, i just get really mad when europe is just the uk.

  • NintendoNoob

  • Teem Four Tress Too

Heck YEAH. The WiiU finally has its reconition that it deserves.

  • Teem Four Tress Too

DAMN, who knew that monster hunter (one of my favorite series) was the game changer for the wii u.

  • Sdudyoy

This is why I don’t understand doomsday articles this early in a consoles life span, The Wii u barely has any games worth buying yet, but as soon as it does then the sales will skyrocket, I like the Wii u, Now I just wish I had more money to buy more game’s, Man I want Lego City, Think about it if Monster hunter can make the sale’s raise this much what will happen when Super smash bros Wii u, Pikmin 3, Mario kart U, Yoshi’s yarn, 3d Mario game, Zelda Wind waker HD, Zelda HD, possible Metroid game, possible Gamecube games coming to the VC, The VC being fully released with GBA games, What ever Retro is working on, Game and Wario looks fun I doubt it will be a console seller, And many other unannounced game’s are released all the “Is the Wii u doomed?!” Articles will be gone.

    • James Bond

      Lego City rules.

  • Marius Valasinas

If there was some amazing Mario or Zelda game since lauch, sales would never have been slow

  • tronic307

    Finally, GAMES!

  • 125% Increase= 8k sold during a Β£199 sale of black wii u with 2 games lmfao! good job nindildo!!!!

  • Andrew Gonzalez

Who knew, games really do make a difference.

  • Adnan Ilyas

and big announcments are yet to come

  • teknik1200

this game is the only reason I have a wii u.

    It’s definitely worth it!

  • Jc Razoric

i got a wii u just for this game, this generation, im sticking to ps4 and wii u. staying away from the xbox because I dont want my wallet to be raped.

  • James Bond

Just bought a Wii U Deluxe on Sunday here in good old USA. Grand Theft Lego a big hit with my kids.

  • DemonRoach

125% is not significant. It’s only 25% better. Loooooooooooooooooool.

    • Rogerio Ap Silva de Andrade

did you do your math homework today, boy ?

  • Zuxs13

lets keep the sales going get Dark Souls 2 on wii U

  • mazty

100% of 30k is 30k…And that’d be worldwide. Wii U sales need around a 400% increase in sales to be significant.

  • liamdawe

What’s your source for the news on the 125% better wiiu sales?

  • Daniel

First console i bought since snes. I’m so lucky with it. Nintendo have always the best and most fun exclusives.

  • Daniel

Best console since snes. Nintendo always have the most fun exclusives.

  • Barstool Blues

The biggest market is still the NA market and nobody cares about Monster Hunter here.

  • Nothing5555

Any one know the actual sales figures? Not trying to be pessimistic but a 125% increase of 3,000 units sold is still not much.

  • A10ERROR

Lego City Undercover is number 4 and its one of Wii U’s early games!

  • Wow first game released in four months and sales go up. That’s a no brainer. Now we need Dragon Quest X for the west already.

  • TheDocMontalban

25% price cut washes out the 25% vol increase, and that’s WITH the MH3 boost….meaning the eventual plummet next week back to irrelevance. UK retailers are disappointed, so that’s the angle that should’ve been reported, not the reality distortion above.

  • Commander Jim

Considering how low its sales were, thats not particularly impressive and still far less than half of what the PS3 and 360 are selling each month. And with actual next gen consoles on the way and with companies like EA already stating that they wont be making next gen games for the Wii U, what kind of future does it have?

  • Levi Johansen

Lego City Undercover will do the same.
The effects of delaying Rayman are starting to fade.

    • Mizzah Tee

Wow. I was just thinking the same thing πŸ˜€

  • Few more good games out & Wii U will sell like bread.

  • wober2

ugh i have no time to play this game. Everytime I sit down I do something very small and i start to fall asleep. I love the game and cannot wait for the off-screen update.

  • Rogerio Ap Silva de Andrade

    Awesome game. A classy warm-up for next yearΒ΄s MH 4 !

  • this is the tip of the iceberg.

  • If monster hunter is making a drastic impact like this then I can only imagine when the new zelda metroid smash bros pikmin fzero starfox metal gear bayonetta xenoblade wonderful101 eternal darkness killer instinct banjo and tooie star wars yoshis land and all these great titles will probably be revealed at e3.
