Seems like fans took to Capcom’s community forums to express their discontent with the fact Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate would not support “off-TV play” on the Wii U Gamepad or “cross-region play” between territories when playing online. As a result, Capcom has agreed to implement both features via an update that will release sometime in April, a month after the game’s release in both North America (March 19) and Europe (March 22). A Capcom employee had this to say:

“We’re working on a software update to add Cross-Region online and Off-TV play for the Wii U version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate! (thanks to community feedback!)

Said update will come post-launch (sometime in April) and it will merge both North American and European servers into one big network for all western hunters out there. This is happening solely because you communicated your thoughts very loud and clear – and it made sense ;)”

Also to be noted, there will be free DLC quests made available at launch and nearly every week thereafter for some time. Capcom seems to be delivering the goods on this one and these changes are welcomed. Talk about listening to your fans and implementing what they want ASAP?! Do these features help you decide whether or not to purchase the game? Or were you getting it regardless? Off-tv play is a big feature for me as I hardly use my TV when playing my Wii U anyway.

    They were just lazy. LOL.

  • bizzy gie

    • RoXas

Health bars would just ruin the point of Monster hunter.

      • I really doubt that.

        • Kirzan

No, they would. The monster’s physical health is physically displayed on its body/actions. If it starts drooling, it’s getting weak. If it starts being knocked down a lot, it’s getting REALLY weak. If it starts fleeing, you’re almost there, champ.

^ This is better than staring at a health bar and doing a math conversion of how many hits you have left to land.

          • Both methods have their appeal.  But health bars wouldn’t hurt.  The biggest use for health bars is knowing if you are going up against a monster that is our of your league.

          • Adam Porter

it’s health won’t determine if it’s in your league, it’s the damage it deals that makes some monsters ridiculously hard. a health bar really would ruin the game and spoil the hunt, especially trapping.

          • Elem187

Agreed… The rush you get as you start noticing the monster drooling and tripping over himself gets me super pumped to finish him off.

    • Thresh

Instructions are there, just not accessible in the demo.

    • Will Carpenter

There is a manual just press the home button and look to the right (all while playing the demo). And wal lah the manual with everything you need to know.

      • Wighead

Wal lah ? Do you mean voilà?

        • Will Carpenter

      • Jorge Ortega Espinosa

Wow, I’ve played the demo 6 times already and I had no idea such manual was included (it really not intuitive at all). I’ll give it a try!

    • Cesar Barroso

health bar? nothing better to be at the edge of the seat all 50 minutes.!!!

    • DragonSilths

      Health Bars are not needed.

    • DragonSilths

As for the time limit I thought that was only in the Demo? I also heard its only on certain missions.

      • The timer for quests is on pretty much all quests you pick up both in online and offline play, mostly 50-60 minutes. Or die three times and the quest is also over, you gotta start over again from the beginning. It’s more like it that only on certain quests there is no timer.

        • DragonSilths

          Uhg…I dont like that.

          • Jorge Ortega Espinosa

I think it might make the game interesting, it’s just that if you’re just starting it get annoying to know nothing and to be expected to deal with the time limit (that was the case for me at least). But I’d think that most missions don’t have a 20 min limit like the demo

      • Adam Porter

seriously though i’ve only ran out of time a handful of time in all the quests ive done. only quest you will most likely run out of time in is the like of jhen mohran, but in the quest it is a real achievement to kill it before the time runs out.

    • Adam Porter

that is the whole fun of monster hunter, it adds suspense. you will get info playing online learning from other players. here if you get the game i’ll help you, i’ll come back to this post the day it’s released and give you my NintendoNetwork ID.

    • if you’ve ever played pokemon mystery dungeon you feel the same way. when fighting bosses you’re like ‘oh man, I hope it dies on this hit.’ mh3 isnt really my kind of rpg, but it was pretty good.

  • John Mellblom

oh, yeah first. i was gonna buy the game anyway, but this gives me one more reason 😉

  • WiiUltra

This is definetly going to be the best Monster Hunter game now. I can’t wait to get it.

    • Noteak

I was having doubts but I am pretty sure I will get it now.

      • Elem187

Off TV-Play was a deal breaker to me… After playing the demo, I’m so pumped for this game.

    • mh4 is also still a possibility

  • John Mellblom

not knowing the health is part of the hunt 😉

  • Nintedward

The two major gripes I had about this Game have been fixed! And to add a cherry on the cake they announce daily quests for free!

I will be buying the 3DS and Wiiu bundle version to show my support for this , and ofcourse to play this fantastic game for hundreds of hours for the next year or so…

    • Noteak

It actually said weekly not daily quests for free.

      • Nintedward

I can see that now 🙂

  • Haize

Already had mine pre-ordered, but this is great news! Now I just need it for the 3DS.

…March 19th feels so far away.

Compared to the outrage at no Megaman Legends 3 this was nothing and yet they yeilded…damn capcom really must hate megaman and its fans. This looks great but I can’t suport capcom until they change on the mm subject.

  • Death47

I’ve been wanting to play with my EU friends since TRI XDDDD

  • Now they just need to address how badly the demo sucked.

    • Cesar Barroso

    • DragonSilths

Demo only sucked cause MH isnt fun when playing Solo. You need co-op.

      • Nintedward

And because noobs suck at the demo 🙂 . I Breezed through it relatively easy! I thought it was an excellent demo , but only with Hardcore appeal.

It is a hardcore game only , So I am happy casual gamers will be scared away by the demo!

        • Death47

IMO, it doesn’t show the true essence of monster hunter.
I talked to people and they thought the different weapons were classes… They had no idea of weapon/armor forging and I guess I can’t blame them.
I agree, the demo sucked, if only because combat is not the only thing to monster hunter, and the fact that many took it as a normal hack n slash game, when, in reality, it is anything but. Most people will probably spam x or a the whole time XD.

          • Nintedward

Exactly! most newcomers who played this demo probably didn’t realise you could take the items out of the box at the camp , or apply poisonous coatings to your arrows or peform more powerfull moves and techniques by doing combo’s and holding down two buttons   XD

          • Elem187

Yeah, your right, I’m a complete noob to the game, but after some time with practice, I started to figure all this stuff out….. now I run the demo once per day just to give bunny man a good beating… Super ready for this game

          • Nintedward

Ikr ? I’ve played the demo for over 6 hours! just imagie how much play time the full game will get. HUNDREDS!!!

        • DragonSilths

I’m a noob at Monster Hunter. This Demo was the first I have played of any Monster Hunter. My only issue was the camera. Wish it was a fixed camera. I enjoyed it. I dont know why you want “Noobs” scared away every player was a noob at once even you. Not like you will play with these noobs, they dont effect you’re game so let them play and enjoy Monster Hunter.

          • Elem187

I’m a noob, and wasn’t scared away… I’m quite delighted in this game, it was my first MH game.

Of course I come from a background of MMO’s on the PC, soooo its naturally a good fit for me.

If Blizzard put WoW on the Wii U, I would s**t.

        • Don’t be a child.  I beat the demo, I’m just saying it sucked.  The ability to complete that crap has nothing to do with how appealing it was.  Which it wasn’t.  Pretty much Janex Krnc has most of the issues above.

        • Jorge Ortega Espinosa

Yep, really missed the point here; stripping the game out of it’s features and of the learning curve is not “Hardcore”, it’s just poor judgement.

The demo didn’t scare me off because it was too difficult, but because it’s was UNFAIRly difficult; I mean, come on dude, I don’t know what the control scheme is, and trying it out wastes time I need to finish the mission. I shouldn’t be punished because I’ve never played the game before.

          • Nintedward

OK , I kinda take back what I said , the demo doesn’t explain anything , and for that reason alone it’s a terrible demo for introducing casual and hardcore new comers alike.

But with that being said , Most people should be able to figure out the controlls , techniques , combos , coatings etc with a bit of practice.

    • They turned off a would be buyer.  I wanted the game.  Post-demo I have no interest.

      • Death47

I do agree the demo sucks, but I would say the actual game is FAR better.

I suggest either renting or buying the old version (tri) on wii or renting the one on wii u/3ds (ultimate) and trying it out before you judge it based on the demos.

That demo was not even indicative of the final game lol.

The actual game consists of armor/weapon forging and much, much more.

Also online co-op on the wii version was the best online experience I’ve ever had.

I’d suggest at least trying a bit of the full game and try going online as well when it comes out (just gamefly it or however you rent games lol)

        • I emailed capcom and told them to release a demo that is a trial version of the game because I won’t buy it unless they can prove to me it is worth my money.  Haha, I doubt they will do it.  But at least I tried.

          • Elem187

Rent it when it comes out from Gamefly.

    • Johny

as a HUGE mh fan i have VERY enjoyed the demo.. but sadly i have to agree…

the demo was bad as…a demo.. it didnt serve its purpose and didnt do what it should. Its like it was made for mh fans and NOT with newcomers who never played a mh game before in mind. for many reasons:
1-It didnt tell you what to do, how the game works, etc (VERY important in a such unique game like monster hunter to the newcomers to the series)
2-I’ve seen alot of people (who played mh for 1st time with demo) saying they expected rpg elements (stats, upgrading armours, weapons, having skills) in such a game and that they are dissapointed to see how its just a 3rd person action game…. FOR A REASON…  the stats were locked in the demo for some reason (which dissapointed me alittle). also no stats or information about weapons or armours were shown (element, damage, sharpness, skills.etc, etc) that apparently DID give people  an impression that in a released game, you just choose a preset weapon combination similar as in demo, not knowing how you can fully customise your character, there are TONS of different weapons in each class, TONS of armour and alot of rpg elements and tacticising and strategizing with armours, their unique skills, … OMG you just cant explain stuff in a comment… the game has a deep gameplay mechanic and infrastructure of a “full fledged rpg” ; only REVAMPED to suit the unique approach monster hunter series offer to the players 🙂

      • SoulSilverZero

I’m a newbie to MH, and I knew what to expect from the game because of the trailers.

      • Jorge Ortega Espinosa

I agree, I mean it’s cool that they give you 30 trials but it was rather frustrating to get killed on the first attempts. On my first try I got killed within the first 3 minutes, and on my third I ran outta ammo and had no idea how to select more to reload. It gets more interesting the more you play it, but It’s really hard if you’re a newcomer. I almost lost interest after a couple attempts to beat the boss (the easy one i might add XD)

        • Elem187

I was disappointed for the first hour or so, but then I started to get the hang of it, and killing the first monster gave me a pretty big rush of excitement and accomplishment… If each monster can provide that sense of accomplishment, I’ll be ecstatic over this game.

  • Joseph Parsons

so i cant play cross-region play in to  April no wtf the game’s release in both North America (March 19) and Europe (March 22) im fucking mad as shit so now i cant play it to April bc myFriend i no is in eu and im in usa

    • DragonSilths

My gosh a bit of spelling assistance is needed.

  • Joseph Parsons

butt thx you  capcom for puting in cross-region play

I think that is truly great that they listened to the fans of this game, and so quickly. I only wish other Developers would follow. maybe not to everything we want but the obvious choices that would make the game better for all would be great. Me personally I never really got into this series and I have tried, even with this new demo. But their decision will only bump up sales over-all for this game for sure.

Great job Capcom! Now if ya bring the newest/or the next Street Fighter to the U that would be great!

  • DragonSilths

Capcom actually listening to its fans??? Where the hell am I? Not in reality thats for sure. Its a small step in going back to their glory days lol. Make the camera a FIXED camera please. And then bring back MegaMan Legends 3 then we will talk. Remember all the feedback from that game Capcom??? Well? Do yah???

    • Johny

one thing at a time dude … 1 thing at a time 🙂 … its just not possible to bring the fans everything…

look at nintendo… soo many people are spamming them to release new:
       f-zero,starfox,earthbound,ice climbers, kid icarus… to wii u or 3ds…

  • Adam Porter

this is amazing news, cross region compatibility will be awesome!!

  • Sounds like atleast someone is listening to the fans. First RE:R and now the major update on MH3U. Maybe if we spam Capcom enough they’ll make Breath of Fire 6, and release 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 to virtual consoles as well 😀

    • Kirzan

At first I started throwing money at the screen when I read BoF 6, then I realized it wasn’t the actual game, then I realized you deserve MONEY for that idea, so I kept throwing.

    • I would rather we have Breath of Fire V and pretend that Dragon Quarter never existed.

Wow! This is awesome, glad they are listening too the fans! I think I’ll be getting it for sure.

  • awesome! I didnt think it would happen. boy was I wrong. I hope TT games would do it for lego city undercover, if they already havent.

  • Now if Capcom could stop the racism in their games and make a new Strider, Forgotten Worlds and bring Street Fighter back to it’s more believable fighting roots, they could have something.

    • Ahiam94

      Get a life.

    • Elem187

I’ll aggree with a new Stryder game..> I was hooked on the NES game.

  • RyuNoHadouken

i just might have to pick this game up!!

  • Ubisoft. Take note

    • Elem187

I think Ubisoft took note… They saw all those Rayman fans screaming about Watch Dogs, and boom, here it comes for Wii U along with Splinter Cell.. I’ll gladly take a delay until Sept for Rayman for having Watch Dogs on the Wii U, plus with a new challenge demo of Rayman coming out next month, I’m willing to forgive the delay.

But, all my focus this month will be on MH3:U for both Wii U/3DS, and NFS:MW.

      • eh… true, but i was more referring to the fact that EVERYONE on their forums begged them to release it on time, and they were just like, oh, here’s a demo.

Capcom didnt have to do anything the forums asked them to, yet they fixed two problems. That’s more what I’m talking about :3

  • Johny

OMG !!!!! NO FRIGGIN WAY…. its all i dared to expect from mh3u…and FAR beyond. off-tv play.. omg it was said it wasnt gonna support it… but THANKS !! thats one of the most important options for me (i had to forfeit important online plays on mh3 on wii because i had to gave up the tv COUNTLESS times). then cross region play… OMG ONE OF ONLY things i had wrong with mh3 on wii… seeing i live in europe, there were just SOOOOOOOOO MANY french/spanish/italian and german people who just friggin DIDNT speak english… the most egocentric people ever… i HATE that SO much ! most of them just assume that people should know their language and refuse to communicate in english.. (sorry dont mean to be racist). so cross region is VERY nice feature. NOT to mention a much larger and vivid community as a whole 🙂

  • Kirzan

I think the cherry on top would be online cross-platform play with the 3DS. That would… blow my mind… TWICE!

    • Elem187

      Already there.

YOu can either transfer your character from the Wii U to your 3DS, or from your 3DS to your wii u, and keep moving them back and fourth to play on the go or at home.

Also, you can also play online with the 3DS through online either tunneling, or local co-op with a friend)

  • this is the first time in months that i’ve heard something good coming from capcom, hope it’s not the last one

  • GermGerm

Well this is…a little off topic but, where is Zen Pinball 2? I was pretty sure they said it was coming out in February…

  • i suck at this game demo i cant even kill the first monster lol no idea what im doing wrong

    • Elem187

Keep trying different weapon classes. I was ready to turn it off after the first hour or so, but I kept at it because I had nothing else to play…. but when it clicks, it clicks.

try using some of the items you find in the chest, like the meat/rations to increase stamina during a fight, or my favorite is set the EZ shock trap, which temporarily stops the bunny in his tracks so you can have 15 seconds are so just to beat the crap out of him.

Time your hits, get used to your attack animations on how long it takes to do a move, and learn the monsters typical movements and react.

Once it clicks, the game is just fun. i have killed the bunny on 5 different classes, I’m just terrible at the ranged weapons. Melee and blades is the only thing I can seem to get the hang of.

Nice to see Miiverse is doing it’s job!

  • Jonn McNally

    This is good!

  • Petri

I hope they do something about those dreadful controls, the demo feels like it was meant to be played with a 3DS.

    • Elem187

Thats part of the challenge. Learning your weapon’s class inside and out and timing your hits.

each weapon class requries practice… This is my first experience in a MH game, and I’m blown  away with how much fun I was having, even though the demo isnt’ impressive in itself.

  • John Mellblom

I´ve heard rumors that MH uses the mic on the GamePad. Does anyone know if there is voicechat in the game?

    • Elem187

From what I read online from people who are with Unity, yes it can use the built-in mic and as well as a plug in mic.

But he said the quality is only so so on the built-in mic, which is a hardware limitation, not software, so they recommend plugging one in.

You get a cheap headset with a built in mic for less than $10

  • C.S. Bailey

I’m going to just post what i did on the first site I found this news on…….

“This is happening solely because you communicated your thoughts very loud and clear–and it made sense,”So
the other times gamers have voiced their opinion to you about certain
aspects of certain games, you heard us, but they didn’t make sense?
Well, Mr. “Capcom”, I thank you for your honesty. I may not agree with
it, but thank you for clearing that up.

  • It’s pretty cool that Capcom is actually listening to their fans for once. Hopefully, this continues.

  • america here i come

  • venomjamaica

I am now getting the wii u version instead of the 3ds version.  I am very happy

    Get N or Get OUT!!!

  • Elem187

Sigh… I went out and bought a 3DS two days ago just so I could enjoy off TV play with MH3:U… but now I bought mario 3d land and Fire Emblem for the 3DS, now I am way too addicted to the device to return it now…. but I will still want away from home play so I can continue to work on making armour/weapons away from home, so I will still buy both the 3ds and wii u version….. Plus the 3DS version is half off(only $20) when you buy the Wii U and 3DS game together from Amazon before 3/17.

  • darkstar18

i just pre ordered mine today =p so hyped for this game

  • Please sing this petition to bring Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 to the Wii U !!!http://www.change.org/petitions/namco-bandai-games-port-remake-naruto-shippuden-ultimate-ninja-storm-3-for-the-wii-u-2

  • michael546k

Wow, this makes me want this game even more. I haven’t seen Capcom or almost any other developer listen to fans so quickly and completely. I can’t get it soon since I’m running low on money, but i might this holiday.
