A lot of gamers in the West are eagerly anticipating Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U. While we’ll have to wait for the game until early next year, our Japanese buddies already have it. And then some, as they got a sparkling Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U bundle on launch day. You can check out the unboxing of said bundle here.

While we all wait for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to arrive, check out these gameplay videos of the Japanese version. In total, there’s over an hour of gameplay footage.

I’ve never played a Monster Hunter game before, but this does look amaing.  Can anyone tell me if part 3 is a good intry to the series to get use too.

    • Monster Hunter Tri was my intro to the series and let me tell it is a great game. I think this one is a must.

    • I agree with Ivan. My introduction to the series was also through MHtri. It’s an amazing game, definily a must have. Spent over 300 hours single player, and another 200+ online gameplay, few games keep me busy so long, the last one which kept me busy that long was Xenoblade Chronicles. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is definily a must. And Monster Hunter Tri is an excellent introduction to the series if you ask me.

There is no real storyline to the games, so you can just jump in to any of them with little issue.

  • The reason I bought a WiiU. After playing over 300 hours of Tri (my first MH game), I bought a PSP, learned to “claw” and played another 300 hours of Freedom Unite. Can’t wait for this!

How the Heck is this footage amazing? I think it looks like crap. The graphics suck. I expect way more from a Wii U game. You wouldn’t see this laziness on 360 or PS3.

I found watching these videos boring.

The Dragon scales are flat I want to see Tessellation

    • At least it’s better than PSP graphics. Your expectations seem to be quite high for a port of a 3DS game.

      • Ryan House

Yes I don’t believe a Port shouldn’t be the exact game. They should add more to the world. Its too empty. I will no doubt have my Wii U by FEB Still Saving. Why couldn’t they add more trees isn’t there a technology that creates trees automatically?

Why did we get a PORT why didn’t they make a New Version. Why are there so many MH3 games.

There is a PS3 equivalent (Japan only though) that you could look at.
Once again it is pretty much a direct port from it’s PSP equivalent.

They keep it the same for the sake of the feature that lets you connect the handheld version to the console version and play together.

Its a 3DS game. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it…. I’m sure the game is fun, but probably not my cup of tea, but I’m anxiously awaiting the next Xeno games

  • This site never stops to amuse me. Especially the trolls, they see something they don’t like and they start trolling about. Yet they fear the wiiu as in “theory” it beats the other consoles. So they run rampart on a Nintendo site, and they troll about. Very amusing.

I haven’t purchased a video game since Skyword Sword. out of the last GEN I had more 360 games than Wii or PS3. Xbox 360 was the First non Nintendo console I bought. Then I bought PS3 just for Blu-ray Movies. Only have 3 games for it only played one of them. I bought a PS2 next and finally a Wii just for skyword sword.

    N64 – 1997
    GCN – 2001
    360 – 2005
    PS3 – 2007
    PS2 – 2010
    Wii – 2011

I went online in 2010 and Bought PS1 and PS2 games once I got my PS2. Got FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, Jax & dexter, Dragon Quest VIII

All the games listed except FFVII were bought New Factory Sealed.

I had N64 during the PS1 days and Gamecube During the PS2 Days

  • Jon Turner

Graphically, this game looks terrific, although there IS some noticeable frame rate issues.  Even so, the detail of the skin on the monsters is staggering.

  • Christopher Coonan

Even with Tri’s original geometry, this game looks absolutely beautiful.

ALSO; why in the heck is the Lagiacrus in area 7? I only ever saw it as far as 5, 9, 10, 11, and 12.
