Last week we reported that Nintendo’s legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto would be in attendance at Japan Expo this year as a special guest in honor of his achievements. Unfortunately that isn’t the case, as Nintendo of France tweeted this morning to let Expo goers know that Miyamoto will not be able to attend due to his father’s illness. You can see the tweet below in French, which translated says:

We regret to announce that Mr. Miyamoto will not be present at Japan Expo for personal reasons related to the health of his father.

This is unfortunate news for anyone who was eager to meet Mr. Miyamoto.

Thanks jjbredesen!

They are out of luck at Nintendo this year… Iwata has to get a surgery and now Miyamoto’s father is sick! >_<

  • MerryBlind .

Goddamn everybody’s getting sick in Japan these days or what? I wish his father a healthy recovery. The last thing we want to see is a depressed Miyamoto 🙁

    • Wii? You!

      one word: fukushima

    • Ducked

Not Japan, just something going on in Nintendo.

    • Krzysztof

Well, the old Nintendo cavalry is not getting any younger. We’ll see more and more sad news like that I’m the future. Not mentioning their parents.

      • MerryBlind .

        Yeah that’s true…

    • 00EpicGamer00

I wonder what the world will do when Miyamoto passes on. It’ll be a very sad day, that’s for sure.

      • brian

        Let’s not think about it.

        • 00EpicGamer00

It’s going to happen at some point. So, why not think about it? I’m not saying this is the subject you should have in your head everyday and all day. But there’s nothing wrong with thinking about it every once in a while. But yeah, for right now, it’d be for the best to leave that subject alone.

  • darkcreap

Poor man. By now his father has to be very old. Hope it is nothing bad…

  • Juan Benitez

    awww what a bummer

  • Themasteroftruth

Nintendo shouldn’t be there at all. They have nothing to show and what they do only appeals to the baby’s.

    • TheSkeletonMan939 .

      Nothing to show, huh?

Hyrule Warriors, SSB 3DS, Mario Maker, Mario party 10… I could go on.

      • Themasteroftruth

        Yawn yawn blah blah

      • Brandon Olson

Don’t feed the retar–I mean, troll. No, I mean… Yeah, retard.

      • Themasteroftruth

        I’ve never been here before.

        • WolfgangAmadeusMozart

Whether you are the same person or not, you are the new Truthteller, you are succeeding him as the official troll of this site. Hold this title proudly !

    • Capt. Smoker

Considering this is a Japan expo and not a Western expo, I would be surprised if anybody could trump them in the offerings department.

    • 00EpicGamer00

I’m afraid baby’s don’t have the mental capabilities to play video games. Therefore, your logic has failed you.

        • 00EpicGamer00

          That wasn’t necessary.

    • Krzysztof

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

        Japan is a weird place

    • fireheartis1

Dude Mr. Miyamoto is only in his 60s. It is very likely that his father can still be alive. His dad may be well into his 90’s though.

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Hey my grand mothers parents died years ago and she’s also in her 60s

  • Rinslowe

Hopefully things come right for Miyamoto Sr. All the best for a speedy return to good health.

  • D-Man

How old is his father? I mean, Miyamoto is 61.

  • X3Charlie

Iwata is secretly his father XD

  • tux_peng

So we didn’t get Iwata and the don’t get Miyamoto?

  • brian

“This is unfortunate news for anyone who was eager to meet Mr. Miyamoto.” Uh, how about its unfortunate news for his family, as his father seems to be in poor health?
