If you’ve ever tried to find posts by a Miiverse user based on the nickname they use, it was impossible until now. You needed to know the Nintendo Network ID of the person and then search that, but a change to Miiverse yesterday now allows users to search via the nickname.

Up until now, you could only search for other users by Nintendo Network ID, but now you can also search by nickname. To use this function, go to User Menu ⇒ Search Users.

Please be aware that, although Nintendo Network IDs are unique, nicknames are not, so you may get multiple results when performing a search by nickname.

It’s nice to see Nintendo making small changes and adjustments to Miiverse as needed, but we really hope they take a look at some of the things we outlined in our 5 things to improve in Miiverse.

I like the 5 things article from back in September. I also feel they need to change the layout. With more and more games coming out the linear top to bottom list of games is going to be rediculous. They need to categorize it between “games”, “Virtual Console”, “Special” and “Other” how they have it now, but just the four boxes. Then transfer you over to a menu like the Wii U or Wii menu. Boxes that scroll horizontally. I think this would be FAR more appealing and more entertaining to browse. Also it needs a visual overhaul. I don’t mind the color scheme but it’s WAY to blah-zeh right now.

I already find the top to bottom list annoying…

  • Shota

i knew that. saw it in the miiverse today

  • Sdudyoy

I really don’t understand why this wasn’t already there.

miiverse could have a feature to search for the communities you want.

    • Tecpedz94

They listen to us so if enough people want they will do it.

  • Alex

    • majora :D

yeah, we get it, nintendo is waaay back in terms of graphics

come back talking about gameplay quality and innovation and you may get our attention

I think it looks a lot better than Banjo, and PS3 exclusives always look great 🙂 I’m pretty much happy with the way Mario 3D World looks. I mean the Mario character model pretty much looks as good as he’s gonna get!

    • Pikachief

I take it back. Looking at the textures of ratchet and clank and the water in Banjo, Mario 3D World definitely looks better.

      • Rinslowe

What are we looking at here? SSAO + Bloom + Native 720p resolutions and high polygon character models…
I just don’t get the comparison, it’s night and day…

    • ItzameyaToad

As Archer leader of the Gorgonites would say, “Alex shut up”!

    • Rinslowe

      Lol, what terrible comparisons…

It’s obvious even from this somewhat underwhelming screenshot of Mario 3D World the character models are showing much higher polygons than either of the other two.

Look at the textures in the foreground of R&C and compare them to foreground textures in your screen shot of Mario, it’s literally night and day here man.

Check out the overuse of environmental haze used in Banjo Kazooie to mask that gaudy low polygon background!

May as well check this out while you tell yourself you were right anyway, regardless of the wealth of evidence to the contrary…

Still nice to see Nintendo steadily improving MIiverse. I’m also waiting for that promised October update, you know, the huge one that got delayed from summer to speed up load times. Hope it comes soon, I don’t consider that update near the start of this month to be the update we’ve been awaiting. Then again, it is Nintendo so it has probably been delayed till November. Here is for hoping Miiverse gets some larger updates very soon.

  • AAAkabob

Why this took so long I’ll never know. But I’m assuming you still have to type it exactly as its spelt.

  • Rinslowe

    Miiverse is a wonderful application…

Sorry, but if Nintendo is making a change I wish they’d FIX THE PARENTAL CONTROLS!! For goodness sake Nintendo, your own software SAYS that password protection for users is coming – yet ….. it still hasn’t arrived.

Now I have to put my Nintendo ID in, which makes the whole system a pain in the A$$
