In the last Nintendo Direct Nintendo announced that Miiverse would be coming to the Nintendo 3DS. Today Nintendo updated the Miiverse with a new look, which is presumably to bring it in line with the 3DS finally getting access to the social network. Here are some of the changes you can expect to find when you look at Miiverse now:

1. New display options in the community list – You can now display more communities at once, with the newest communities displayed first. You can also use a filter to display communities based on categories such as “Wii U software”, “Virtual Console” and so on.

2. A change to the profile page – Your profile no longer displays the total number of Yeahs you have given. However, you can still see the number of Yeahs on individual posts.

3. A change to the default display setting within a community – Until now, when you entered a community, the newest posts were displayed first. From now on, posts by people who have played the game will be displayed by default.

With this update out of the way, Nintendo is free to bring Miiverse to the 3DS. Remember you’ll need to use the same Nintendo Network ID on the Nintendo 3DS that you currently use on the Wii U, so make sure those two are the same once the update in December comes.

  • jjbredesen

Yay btw ashley could i perhaps get to create articles for this site??

I have had a lot of tips on stuff? Is there a form i could fill out or something?

    • Kirbyomega

You just missed it. About a week or two ago, they had a contest to become an intern.

      • jjbredesen

        • CEObrainz

I thought you applied for that?

          • jjbredesen

Not to become a intern? that was to be a contributing editor??

Now i am confused was there 2 contests?

          • Magnus Eriksson

Maybe you could send it in? If its good im sure theyll publish it.

          • CEObrainz

By intern I think Kirbyomega actually means to be a contributing editor.

          • jjbredesen

Ah ok well in that case i have entered.

          • CEObrainz

Ahh yea I thought so, any word back from them, or is it all supposed to be hush hush?

          • jjbredesen

No word back from them yet what about you?

          • CEObrainz

Yea, however you should note that these things do take time and you can imagine how many people applied. I’d hate to be the one that has to go through all the applications…

          • jjbredesen

Yeah i would to, but if you don’t mind what was the reply?

          • CEObrainz

Um sure I guess, they asked if I could write an article as if it was going to be posted on this site. Giving three options and then saying it would take time to get through all the responses.

          • jjbredesen

ok, i guess there is like 1000 responses O_O

And poor ashley has got to check all of them…..

          • CEObrainz

Well actually it’s a guy from who replied to me, so there may be more than one person who is answering/replying to these applications.

          • jjbredesen

          • Oh hey, you got replied to? Nice!

          • BIG Franky

yes…. unpaid contributor… (i.e., an intern)… actually even interns usually get paid. 😉

          • jjbredesen

Ah ok thanks for clearing up the confusion 🙂

Not always easy to understand when you are Norwigien..

  • Magnus Eriksson

They removed the “Yeah system”. Not sure if that was wise or unwise. It might help on the spamming, but also it may cause fewer to post stuff. Personally, dont care. But I think many will.

    • jjbredesen

Dei har ikkje fjerna det bare på profilen din.

      • bob

        • jjbredesen

          We are both norwigien 😛

          • crocodileman94

Jag tycker hans namn låter svenskt

          • jjbredesen

Han er norsk har snakka med han før.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Nejdå. Jag är faktiskt svensk, men jeg pratar och skriver norska i tillägg till svenska. Är bosatt i Norge.

          • jjbredesen

            Ah ok skjønner.

          • Pegnosepete

    • FoxMulder900

I don’t think they have completely removed it have they? This article just says you can no longer see how many Yeahs you have given, which honestly doesn’t make that much sense it the first place. I always thought it should show how many Yeahs you have received instead.

      • DragonSilths

Which is false, you can see how many YOU HAVE GIVEN. You cant see HOW MANY YOU HAVE GOTTEN.

        • Magnus Eriksson

          ^ this

        • Germany

Good, this will stop the spam of “Thanks for X amount of yeahs! now give me moar!”

          yeah, that shit was annoying.

    • I like it. I dont care how many people like my stuff.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Me neither. Hope they’ll divide the VC into sub catalogues too. Especially if it will support more consoles.

  • Christopher Acuna

    bout damn time.

  • Ony

It would be nice if they made a more… interesting management of the Popular Post.
They are generaly full of kids talking about nothing interesting, and occupy 90% of space, eating on the awesomes drawings peoples makes.
(Well it’s my feeling, I don’t go often on Miiverse or on lots of communities, but those I watch (especially MH3U) are like that) (or maybe it’s only on the browser Miiverse version?)

  • Andrew W Garttmeyer

I never really used miiverse, is there some kind of trophy that displays the games that I completed, or even 100%ed?

    • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

NOPE… its just a… Nintendo “Twitter” if you wanna see it like that

      • Andrew W Garttmeyer

        PASS. thanks for the reply.

        • FoxMulder900

It’s actually better than you might think, it is designed in a way that you see posts that are relevant to the exact area or level which you are currently playing. So it tends to be more interesting than just random posts about things you don’t care about.

          • Andrew W Garttmeyer

but, I am not interested in any of that. Thanks though.

          • FoxMulder900

That’s fair, to each their own – the games are the most important part anyways! 🙂

          • Andrew W Garttmeyer

Agreed, but to be more specific. If I need tips or help on a level, I am looking online. I don’t care much what some random person did on some level. I do think I should take a look at it just to see, like you said, but I really am interested in showing off my accomplishments with just a little trophy saying, 100%!

      • Much better than twitter though IMO. At least you can interact with other players of the games a bit more.

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

It’s a bit better indeed, Miiverse has a great potential !

  • I’m not sure number 2 is correct, as I can still see the number of Yeahs on my profile, as well as the Yeahs on the profiles of friends and followers. But besides that, this update definitely makes browsing Miiverse easier. Still hoping for a search function in Miiverse. I know you can mark communities as favorites for quick access, but it seems pointless if you aren’t invested in a particular Miiverse community often.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

When are the so called accomplshment gonna come out to the wii u like xbox 360 or ps3 trophies?

    • D.M.T

Maybe never and i’m fine with that because Nintendo doesn’t need fake trophies like the ones on 360 and PS3. We play games for fun, not bragging rights.

      • CharmanderRulz

What about the achievements that create new ways to play outside of what they can make necessary to the core game? I understand this system can be broken at times but surely it’s better then no system!?

They can be much more then a bragging tool! The best way I can explain is with this:

      • Alexander Kleinwechter

It doesnt have to be similiar to xbox achievements or the trophies, but i thought its actually a very good idea, so it could lengthen the play time even more.

      • greengecko007

How is collecting awards not fun? Nintendo may not have an achievement system for the Wii U, but they have put in game achievements in several of their games, the most obvious being Pokemon where you earn medals, ribbons, and stars.

    • Sean

if you want a trophy, join a sports team

    • Googs

Nintendo decided against them and left the choice of awarding achievements to the game devs themselves.

      • CharmanderRulz

He was on about system wide achievements but if you want examples of Wii U games with achievements look no further then the company you say “decided against them” with Nintendo land accomplishments, Super Mario 3D World Stamps etc. but if you don’t trust me hear are some WiiUDaily pages:

        • Googs

I meant system wide achievements, Nintendo has always had self-contained achievements within their games, but they where never standard to the system itself, the way PS and Xbox are.

          • CharmanderRulz

If you “meant system wide achievements” then you made your own statement wrong. How could “the choice of awarding achievements [be] to the game devs”?

          • Googs

They left the choice to game devs, if they so desperately wanted achievements, they’d have to program into their own games.

      • Kameron Grayson

If they added something like achievements, they would probably copy Microsoft. That being system-wide, obviously, since some Wii U games have developer made achievements. Maybe they can implement stamps system wide and you can collect points to buy Virtual Console games on the eshop?

    • DragonSilths

Never, Nintendo doesn’t believe in them. If you need a pat on the back for beating a level on every difficulty then you have issues. Achievments are pointless.

      • Alexander Kleinwechter

Wow, i dint know you guys were so against achievements, i think its a great idea if nintendo put something similiar into the wii u, so you can replay some stages, and then get points for the accomplsihments so you can get like free nintendo stuff!

        • DragonSilths

Free Nintendo stuff? That’s called Club Nintendo. Achievements takes away from games. Take the Halo games for example. Instead of making a game that has a 15 hour Campaign then they can just add achievements that will add to the play time. So many other games do that. Why make a 20 hour campaign when you can make a 10 hour one and just add an achievement to play for 20 hours…

          • Germany

            ^ This

    • Pablo Lavín

Time Ago you only needed to say: ”I beat Metal Slug X with no continues” and that was your ”achievement”. Well, you had no proof, but now, on Miiverse you can post photos with the ”achievements” being made, and also you can tag it as ”Achievement” or sort of that

    • starwars360

Don’t you realize that Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Batman Arkham Origins got achievements?

When you earned a achievement than it is posted to Miiverse’s Activity Feed so friends or public players either will look at your achievement that you had earned and share it as well comment for ask question on how to get achievement or about achievement or fun talk about it etc…

Also put Yeah if they want to. 🙂

So actually some Wii U titles got achievements as I explains above. It is called Achievements.

I think maybe Watch_Dogs is next title to have achievements for Wii U. 🙂

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Awesome design. Let us more stuff coming in. Good work. But I wish they add trophies or achievements but still Nintendo is stepping up their game.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, and pick up the ball onVirtual Console. Its time to get that baby up and running now. 1 game every week is a joke. It could be so much better with so little effort.

      • Gabrielsen

Wonder if it is the fact that releasing all the games at once would kill the sales or if they just aren’t ready yet…

        • Nintenjoe82

I’d blame the fact that they can make a few £$€ from releasing utter rubbish from the NES era but they couldn’t get away with it if there were decent games released every week. They should at the very least be allowing SNES 3rd parties to put their whole collections on there.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Of course its about the money. But in the long run things like this causes people to get tired from Nintendo. Seen as a whole its just a very bad product, that only makes it a bit more unattractive. Its just not as good as it could been. Another problematic aspect is that this policy doesnt force Nintendo to renew themselves as they always can rely on their oldest stuff over and over again. Take Super Mario 3 for example. How many times did you buy that game? I might have bought it four times or so.

          • Gabrielsen

            0 🙂 But I get your point 🙂

    • bizzy gie

That’s the only one not taken.

  • ConCity Soldier

Why are games that no one plays make the spotlight? I don’t care if they are new. Adventure Time, Edge, and Coaster Deluxe don’t belong there. The only game that belongs on that spotlight topic is Super Mario 3D World, and I guess Wii U Party.

    • Funkee Dynamite

it says “New Communities” to the left of the filter button, that explains why they are there.

    • I love how people think that just because a game is not important to them it should not be displayed to anyone.

  • Connor Devlin

I like it! Everything looks smoother and more compact.

  • BIG Franky

I don’t like how you can no longer see the number of members that have joined a particular community….. it was always a nice gauge to see how well a particular title was selling (i.e., the more members a community has, the more people that have purchased the game…obvi not an exact science, but there is definitely a correlation).

    • hahahero

I agree, like you said “not an exact science” but a higher community population seemed to be symptomatic of a higher quality game. Weird that they’d remove it, seems like a core statistic to have viewable for the communities. Maybe they thought the participation was embarrassingly low? Or just a measure to achieve this cleaner look? IDK, they should have kept it though.

    • DragonSilths

Those numbers on the communities where the number of Posts actually…

  • LoZ4life98

Does anyone know if the Funky Barn community still exists? I took a break for a while and I can’t seem to find it anymore.:0 It was the funkiest community of them all!!!:'(

    • Shigeru Miyamoto

hahaha! funniest thing i’ve read on here.

  • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

Just a couple of simple things that Nintendo should fix

    • Ow… you dont have to shout, I’m right here

    • Magnus Eriksson

man, you use up all the big letters for the rest uf as. come on, be a bit solidaric.

  • Justagamer

  • TheWichi

I want to see my total yeah! recived 🙁 come on all the rest of the new things are ok. but why they do that?? that doesnt make any good

    • A SNES Day Off

Because users were, literally, begging others to be given votes for absolutely no reason. I have no interest in seeing people gloating or asking for ‘Yeahs’.

      • DragonSilths

Yeah but asking for yeahs was against the Miiverse rules anyway. So know people who Draw amazing pictures wont bother much anymore. No point.

        • it was against the rules, but when reporting a post, I never saw it as areason

          • DragonSilths

It was called “Other” then you right the reason lol.

      • TheWichi

Well you are right with that but I feel good when I do a draw that people yeah and know that feeling wold not be as cool… and I pettry sure this isnt going to stop the yeah begging

  • DragonSilths

Total Number of Yeahs I gave? Yes the Profile shows that. It doesn’t show how many YOU HAVE RECIEVED IN TOTAL. Honestly I like most of the update, but taking away our total yeahs makes yeahs pointless. So congrats on fucking up again Nintendo.

    • Germany

I am glad they did, I was tired of sifting through peoples spam asking for more yeahs or the “thanks for X number of yeahs”.

the service is a social service, not a begging service for virtual likes.

      • DragonSilths

Begging for yeahs was against the rules anyway. You could have just ignored those posts. Now yeahs have no purpose. They should be gone completely then. Now people who draw have no motivation to draw.

        • Germany

yeah but it was still annoying scrolling down the page and seeing all these posts that had nothing to do with the subject because of people asking for yeahs, or to “yeah if X” or “Thanks for X amount of yeahs”

  • Relick

That’s nice and all, but Miiverse didn’t need redesigning. What does need redesigning is the Wii U OS itself. And fast. Not the current Nintendo timeline of a year to get out a small speed boost. First the OS needs at least the same features and functionality along with ease of use of the 360 OS. Then give it the Nintendo quality finish and THEN redesign cool things like the Miiverse.

Problem is at the moment is that gaming has become super social, and Miiverse is a great step towards this goal – but a step on the left foot whereas MS and Sony took the right foot. If Nintendo could just jump forward with both feet (continuing with this silly analogy) then people might start seeing the Wii U as a proper potential purchase. At the moment, personally, I feel very detached when I play the Wii U – not just because I don’t know anyone that owns one – but also because it is all a very insular experience, just like the Wii.

  • this is not what I saw on miiverse 5 mins ago… did I miss an update? o.o

  • leo

notice how communities don’t have #’s anymore?

  • Winston Bradley Boz

I hate it. Why? Because I am an artist there, and they are telling me to be thankful to other. How can I be thankful when you only made things worse for us, Nintendo? Where’s Flipnote? Why delay? Where’s swapnote? Ugh. Not only that, but when you send a message, the person WON’T GET NOTIFIDED WITH A ORANGE DOT.

  • linxz

took out yeahs received? are they actually competing against themselves on how to be MORE stupid? mistake after mistake. they really need to update their marketing team cause it feels like they have no sense of the online world. people like kuddos and enjoy recognition you morons. it’s called INCENTIVE

  • devmiles

i still hate the fact that there are no trophies or achievement displayable or unlockable, this add greatly to the replay value of games.. noooo nintendo does it their own way. i still don’t do shit with miiverse, what is there to do? right.. nothing..

  • readypembroke

What I find funny about the VC:
Super Mario Bros 1 was not announced and it came out of nowhere.
Super Mario Bros 3 was announced months ago and it hasn’t came out at all.

  • artcore67

Just got a wii u and this is a great game system! Fun for all ages and well worth the price. I picked up the super Mario brothers bundle and sonic lost world.

    • readypembroke

Get Super Mario 3D World, I will because it looks FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. Please spread the word about its AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • artcore67

Yes! I have been spreading the word. super Mario 3D world is on my list of many games I will be getting. Happy Thanksgiving to all gamers!
