About a week and a half ago, Comcept, a game development studio led by Mega Man creator, Keiji Inafune, began a Kickstarter campaign for a game called Mighty No. 9. With this new title, Comcept is hoping to recreate that old-school, 2D side-scrolling action gameplay that gamers fell in love with during the early years of Mega Man, while adding a modern twist.

As it stands, the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter has blown past it’s $900,000 goal for PC, and is sitting just shy of $1.9 million with 23 days to go. If it meets a $2.2 million stretch goal, the game will be brought to the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U consoles. Check out Inafune’s journey leading up to the creation of this project in the video below.

Most gamers can agree that Mega Man has been neglected by Capcom over recent years. From several announced titles being cancelled, to a rather unflattering appearance in the PS3 version of Street Fighter X Tekken, the Blue Bomber just hasn’t been getting the love he deserves.

Wii U owners will finally reconnect with Mega Man in Super Smash Bros. Wii U next year, but, if Mighty No. 9 meets it’s console version stretch goal, then maybe fans of every platform will finally get the Mega Man game they’ve been clamoring for.

If this game does end up coming to Wii U, does it seem like something you would be interested in playing? Let us know in the comments.

already did my part. it will probably hit the goal by the end of the week

    • Ducked

      Lets hope so

  • Looks nifty. Hope they do well 😀

  • CEObrainz

Remind me for some reason of a mix between Metroid and Mega Man, so If this does reach it’s stretch goal, I’ll pick it up.

  • Matt Lambourne

    Jump’n’Shoot man!

  • Ducked

Mega Man spinoff? I don’t care at this point as long as it’s good.

But CapCom why can’t you make a Mega Man Legends 3? There hasn’t been a good Mega Man game since Namco made a good Pac-Man game.

    • This isn’t really a Mega Man spin-off so much as it’s Keiji Inafune making a similar style game since Mega Man fans have been asking him for years and Capcom won’t release anything. This has no affiliation with Capcom or Mega Man whatsoever, beyond the similar art styles.

      • Ducked

But it basically is a Mega Man game. Same exact gameplay, same type of character. Although it’s a smart move, I don’t blame him for doing this.

I blame Capcom for making Mega Man a forgotten wonder. Hopefully this will teach Capcom a few things.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s basically just Inafune’s way to respond to Capcom’s lack of love for Mega Man. We can at least have something close to the Blue Bomber in terms of gameplay.

          • Ducked

            True, true, true…

      • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s just inspired by Mega Man. Nothing but greatness can come from that. I don’t know about reaching all it’s stretch goals, but it’s projected to reach 2.2 million, which would at least get it on the Wii U.

    • Mario

It’s not really a spinoff. It’s more of a spiritual successor to the blue bomber. (Personally, this new IP is more of, in a indirect way, a new Megaman to me).

      • Ducked

        I actually agree

  • Sdudyoy

That’s good, but I’ve never been able to get into Mega man.

  • Mario

And a new Megaman is born…

  • Newborn Mega Man.Looks pretty gimmicky.Outrageous!I want that game NOW!

  • Rugmouse

I’ll purchase this game day one if it is able to make the Wii U console stretch goal. Playing a Megaman-esque game on a PC just sounds wrong!

Oh, and does anybody else find it weird that they are making it for 360 and PS3 when it is slated for a 2015 release? lolz

    • Daniel Gonzalez

How is it wrong? Lol. Not like PC gamers can’t play this on a controller. It’s modern times now, not the NES era. I’m most likely getting this on PC and maybe on consoles later on.

I don’t find it weird at all that it’s coming on ps3 and 360. Both consoles will be around for several years after next gen kicks in full force.

      • Rugmouse

I just meant it is the sort of game that should be played on a controller (I know – PCs have controllers, but I personally don’t own one). PC keyboard controls just don’t seem optimal. Basically I’m just hoping to reach the stretch goal for the Wii U is all.

Oh, and the graphic was just updated to include a stretch goal for PS4 and Xbox 1. I actually view this positively, as this will likely increase the amount of people willing to fund the project, making the 2.2 Wii U level essentially a done-deal (hopefully).

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I think it’ll hit it’s 2.2 goal for sure. As for controls, it really depends on how they implement them, but I would agree and say this game will probably play best on a controller.

        • insomniac

2D plat formers (like this will most likely be) really have smooth keyboard controls typically. Same with both Rayman games.

        • Dominick

it uses and xbox or ps3 controller for pc you NOOB.

          • me

please leave his forum, no one likes you. you are a NOOB to the forums, play nice or get lost.

          • theguywithaaccount

            dat grammar

  • Daniel Gonzalez

I was wondering when this news would be covered on Wii U Daily. I’ve already backed it and hope it reaches all it’s stretch goals. Everyone should experience this game. It’s Mega Man all over again. Now we’ll see if this gets Capcom’s attention. 🙂

    • I cannot wait to play this game!

      • Daniel Gonzalez

        You said it.

  • insomniac

missed oppertunity for a great exclusive

    • Daniel Gonzalez

At the very least, it’ll come to the Wii U. Better than not having it at all.

      • insomniac

      • insomniac

        im thankful for oddworld coming

        • Arthur Jarret

Not to mention stranger’s wrath! It’s late on wii U, but definitely worth playing! Just too bad there hasn’t been any announcement about Munch’s oddyssee… which is arguably the worst of the four main oddworld games (not counting gameboys oddworld adventures) – but still a pretty good game.

    • Chase Davis

From a megaman fanboy point of view i disagree. This will give megaman fans from all different consoles a chance to show that capcom made a horrible decision killing off megaman

  • Alex

Dear Capcom, don’t cancel this Megaman type of game AGAIN!!!!!!!

    • QuizmasterBos

Capcom does not own this, it’s a new IP from Keiji Inafune, who left Capcom last year.

However, Capcom could presumably shut the game down, but I doubt Capcom will be able to convince the court the game is stealing. It’s incredibly similar, yes, but it’s not the exact same. No designs have been ripped (even though Beck looks very similar to Mega Man), presumably allowing Comcept to complete this game.

      • Mario

I don’t understand. If Keiji is the creator of Megaman, shouldn’t he have the rights to that IP?

        • Merrfn

Intellectual property theft. The only way that capcom could shut this down is if they can convince the court it is stealing, Like he said.

          • Mario

Okay! That’s just wrong! Even for Capcom!

    • Michael Jurado

well it’s not like capcom is going to make a megaman game anytime soon I say capcom focus on what you are good at which is Monster Hunter

  • Ernie Sanguyo

I would buy it fast when it comes to Wii U.

  • FlashFan207

I will be all OVER this!

  • Mark

My only concern is that Capcom might seize this title due to large similarity with Mega Man (Mighty No.9 pretty much is Mega Man). Hopefully it doesn’t happen.

  • Arthur Jarret

Even if it doesn’t meet the stretch goal, I’ll play it on PC. But it looks like it will easily surpass it so I’ll pick up the superior (off TV and miiverse-enabled) wii U version.

  • Jared Garcia

I don’t know much, but what I do know is that Inafune will take better care of his new creation. It won’t be placed on a permanent back burner.

  • Mario

Taking away the IP’s from the very person who made them? For shame Capcom! I thought you were better than that!

Oops! Did I wrote Ubisoft? Sorry! I meant to write Capcom. Not Ubisoft! Silly me! Sorry for the confusion!

    • Geoffrey Tasker

  • Rodger Jamjet

Hell yes! Bring it on and will definately being getting this on the eShop. The Nintendo eShop is very very good these days and a far cry from Nintendos poor efforts in the past. I think it’s rapidly becoming one of the best online shops.

  • therealruben1

Did the intro remind anyone of mega man 2?

  • Geoffrey Tasker

I really want this game to be made but man i’m scared the capcom lawyers would have a field day with it…

  • Tiberian_Fiend

Kinda surprising that they’ve put the last-gen ports before the next-gen ports on the stretch goals, considering they’re releasing in 2015. Who knows if PS3, X360, or Wii U will even still be relevant then?

  • Josiah Parsons

I never really played Mega Man, but this looks absolutely awesome. I’m psyched.
I assume this will be a downloadable title? The Wii U doesn’t really need another indie platformer, but this one looks totally worth it.

  • Akatosh

I’ll definitely get this if it comes out! I’ve been deprived of the Blue Bomber for far too long!

  • Michael Jurado

Finally some good news, yes I’ll without a doubt pre order this + I already donated 15$ ^_^

  • Chase Davis

I am a proud backer of megamans spiritual successor. This game is going to be amazing! Hopefully it spawns a whole series of console games!
