Fans of Mega Man are eagerly awaiting the spiritual successor to the series in the form of Mighty No. 9, a Kickstarter-backed project initiated by series creator Keiji Inafune. Several different video logs have been released with the project over different stages of development, showing how movement works in the game, what the pseudo 3D environments will look like on a 2D plane, and how Mighty No. 9’s actions and jumps look. This is a similar video, showing off the progress the dev team has made in the game so far.

The game doesn’t have a solid release date, though the start of the video says the development team is shooting for a Spring 2015 release date. The game is scheduled to release on all major consoles including the Wii U. Did you back this game? Are you excited about what you see? Let us know in the comments.

It’s all going to come down to the feel of the gameplay. That’s what made old Mega Man games so good. This looks nice but I hope they get the controls solid.

this megaman oh sorry i mean mighty no. 9 game looks good.

  • SmashFinale

Feels good to see a 3D model on 2D plane game. Personally, I’m getting tired of all the 8bit 2D platforming…

      exactly, right?

    • MerryBlind .

New Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong Country say “Hiii”

      • SmashFinale

So does Kirby Triple Deluxe and Return to DreamLand.

Seriously, why are some of my most anticipated games of the coming years, indie games, aside from Smash Bros?

And why is Megaman just sitting around, not doing anything?

  • That actually looks very good. I feel a lot more confidence in this game now I’ve seen that video rather than just a few stills and a big name dev who did good stuff a very long time go.

  • ActivesiN

    looks amazing

  • David Horowitz

    Looks pretty sweet

  • FlashFan207

This looks fantastic. Finally a new “Mega Man” game, even of it’s not actually him.

  • Jake Russo

Looks fun but the movement animation looks kinda weak, the look & feel of movement is so important to platformers that I hope they plan a once-around on that part of the game.

It’s a shame this can’t be a Mega Man game, but it certainly makes up for it. Can’t wait play this next year.

  • Nicolas Dorion

I bet capcom are having a hard time sleeping

I didn’t back the game because I didn’t have enough money too, but I will for sure download it once it’s available. It looks so awesome!!!

  • SuperSavior

Boosting reminds me of Resogun, looks fun hopefully challenging!

  • Magnus Gonzalez

With each reveal my excitement lessens. This does not look as good as I once thought it would.

  • Moreck

This looks as though it plays as quickly and responsively as Mega Man X7 & X8 should have

  • Rich Garriques

    wow this looks really good.

  • Iflywright

Looks like Mega Man got into Doctor Light’s medicine cabinet…
