Last year Mega Man creator Kenji Inafune began a Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9; a 2D side-scrolling action-platformer in the vein of the old Mega Man games. It proved to be one of the most popular video game Kickstarters ever and quickly met the Wii U stretch goal. We’ve seen video of the game engine at work before and there’s been some controversy over a community manager appointment. But aside from that there hasn’t been much news about the game since it’s Kickstarter ended. Until now at least. Several Alpha build screenshots have been released today on the game’s official website. They’re a little rough visually, but they show off several aspects of the game, such as some UI elements, particle effects and enemies along with main character Beck ledge-grabbing and dashing. It was also said in the post that Inafune “loved” the Alpha build. Mighty No 9. is still early in development, and so doesn’t have a release date yet. But we do know that it will be released on PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS Vita and 3DS. What do you guys think of these screenshots? Do they look interesting to you? Let us know in the comments! BIG Franky sure I have…. and yes, it was awesome 25 years ago (yes, it holds up well)…. just waiting for something original/fresh to come out…. sick of more of the same! get some originality developers! Jon so…. what games do you play then….? Adam Howell He probably plays a bunch of fpsers, not realising they’re all suck in the 90’s to the same degree platformers are stuck in the 80’s. Skelterz WHOOPS EX COD FAN!!!! Wolfgem People amaze me. You bitch about Capcom not making a Megaman game for so long and you still bitch with this game because it’s not something original. Are people retarded or something? Wolfgem No. Enumerating Wishes Well what’s certainly true is that the Wii U has a lot of platformers. While it may be a spiritual successor to Mega Man it’ll have to appeal to a lot more people to be successful. metalpants Guess you missed the memo. This game is basically designed for the diehard Megaman fans that respect the original creator and would rather see Megaman come from no one but him. Don’t like the game? Don’t get it. No need to try and rain on other people’s parade with baseless comments. Rinslowe Say what? Elitepwnsface Can’t wait for this game to come out. So glad i backed it. Frankie They promised so many physical items on their KickStarter, a ton of the money they raised is going to be spent on that. This game will be under budget and not meet expectations. Daniel Gonzalez Will be purchasing this one soon as it’s released. This is as close we’re all gonna get to Mega Man, and I’m liking what I’m seeing so far. 🙂 Lil J Moore Agreed Rob Yeah, the guy leading the development was also part of the original Mega Man team at one point, supposedly. I am glad he is bringing it back. I miss the good old days of classic Mega Man. lonewolf Dude Inafune created the Mega Man franchise 🙂 Kaihaku I already purchased my copy. 😉 Gotta love Kickstarter. Skelterz Looks cool to me looks like its got a while to go yet looking forward to the outcome. metalpants It’s looking a lot better than I expected. Will keep my eye on it. ~OMEGA~ 🙁 i was hoping for 2d vector art… not 3d models…. *sigh* still gonna consider it for a purchase though Adam Howell I didn’t realise it was coming to 3ds. I might get that version if it’s equal. Mario Mario: Beck! You better live up to your spiritual predecessor’s legacy! OK!? Rinslowe This is going to be flash back gravy. LarryOfPompeii Coming from someone who started out a little skeptical, it does look pretty neat….
