According to MCV several large retailers in the UK have stated that they have faith in Nintendo but feel big actions should be taken in order to save the Wii U. They also believed that a significant price cut making the console a sub-£200 machine and a new bundle pack with the upcoming Mario Kart 8 could help salvage the Wii U. One retailer stated the following, which in turn shows that there is a demand to see Nintendo use its unique GamePad to really stand out from the crowd: “We also need something revolutionary that makes use of the second screen and has mainstream appeal, which is easier said than done.” Steve Thomas, the boss of Xbite Ltd. added; “Nintendo will have something up its sleeves that again will add a new dimension to gaming.” Leave a comment below telling us what you think would help the Wii U fly off shelves. It made game play the most suspenseful I’ve ever played. darkcreap Yep. Strangely enough, some third parties (like Ubisoft) have taken better advantage of the gamepad than Nintendo. MetroidZero 007 Legends also had separate screens. lonewolf Deus ex directors cut also and the wonderfull 101 nintendo land as well. D Moness do not forget lego city undercover Quicksilver88 I just ordered those from Best Buy, got W101 for $19 and DeusEx for $32….really looking forward to both. Arthur Jarret Sonic and sega all stars racing transformed used the gamepad for a second screen in multiplayer too, and the wii u version is the only one with 5-player local multiplayer. I personally also loved it in AC3 – where I could put the HUD in gamepad mode and play the game without those ugly bars and icons in front of my cinematic experience filled with faceless women, fake, fall-through rocks and horses on rooftops. Quicksilver88 Same thing in AC4 which was really well done on WiiU and sits right between ps360 and ps4 versions…..i love the 2nd screen map in tha game as there us so much collecting ad side missions. I also really liked the map when playing ME3 as it was so useful durin combat with enimies with cloaking. RyuNoHadouken best survival horror game ever created…ive NEVER felt a sense of fear and tension like I did when playing that game! Sean maybe the UK should just shut the fuck up RyuNoHadouken u mad bro? Sean wow ive never heard that one. gosh you sure are original Gameonfool I’m sure your the most original dude around Sean you’re. Gameonfool Ah no the grammar police. Gameonfool I am when you tell the uk to beep beep which you should thank for the fine language you speak mr grammar Sean thank them for the language, not the UK of today Gameonfool Yeah and we can thank our big USA of today for dragging the uk down to our standards and being the real world terrorists Alan Michael Hensley this is a gaming website, so don’t bring politics into it,I could care less. your personal views on countries are cool and what not, but this a topic for another place Gameonfool It’s not like I wrote an epic monologue and we all have the right to reply to a comment as he was putting down a country. You still need to thank the English. Is your brain filled with maple syrup or something. Sean lol that’s actually pretty funny Eduardo Dude relax. Sean ….. Bob Wilkerson How is this specific retailer representative the voice for the entire UK? Lee I really do hope they change how they manage Nintendo, so we can see the Wii U do well in the future. If Nintendo would just listen to what their fans want, they would make huge profit. Kinhas Yeah, Games would just be fine! GOOD ONES! My wii u has so much dust i cant even see it! Louie zombi U, Monster Hunter 3, Lego city, Rayman legends, Pikmin 3, wonderful101, Mario 3d world, Assassins creed, cod, batman, splinter cell and all the great Wii games you may have missed. Mario “Wii U” lonewolf No, wii games you know the ones from 7th generation. Mario No. They’re WiiU games. Mr. J Zelda…….. That’s what would help Kyle Having the maps and menus on the gamepad is very good. Mr. J Especially in WWHD Bob Wilkerson I have been playing Rayman Legends and that makes very good use of the gamepad IMO. It is so much fun that I cannot imagine how one would play it otherwise on the XB360 or PS3. Justis Bistawros Mario cart 8 should help salvage the wiiu. I’m getting this game, that sick gamepad i cant wait to turn that gamepad when i race, Mr. J I got a Wii U for SSB and Mariokart 8 Bob Wilkerson First of all there have been several games from both Nintendo and third parties that make very good use of the gamepad so I am not sure what he is saying there. While I agree that Mario Kart 8 will be good for Nintendo unless they royally mess up the game (which they have yet to do in this series IMO) I disagree about last chance because with the many years of retailers, analysts, console war gamers, and generally hateful people making claims of Nintendo’s demise and last chances non of it has come true. Møhåmmęd Jårmøn Ok they can’t make the WiiU cheaper than the 3DS XL. Imagine how that would look Bob Wilkerson People like this always want to proclaim price cut on Nintendo but then when they offer the least expensive console (out of the big 3) they call them cheap. How about Microsoft drops their $500 monster that is nothing other than a weak PC that could be built for $300 anyway. The Clockwork Being Coming from a retailer that took the Wii U off shelves in their stores and only took them out upon request at some point, I don’t think they should be commenting on Nintendo’s chances when they don’t even give them a chance. Cesar Barroso A bundle with Mario Kart 8 will simple drain Nintendo’s money. darkcreap Aye. I think it speaks volumes that some Ubisoft titles (like ZombiU and Rayman) make better use of the gamepad functionalities. I just don’t understand why, if the Pikmin Minigame in Nintendo Land has touchscreen support, Pikmin 3 does not have it. It is a nightmare to control Pikmin with the double joystick paradigm. I ended up using the Wiimote, which is ironical since the gamepad is the WiiU’s main input device. It is very clear that Pikmin 3 was designed with the Wii, not the WiiU, in mind. The gamepad additions (like the map, for instance) seem to be like an aferthought. Same goes for New Super Mario Bros Wii U and even 3D world. There were few moments in which the gamepad was really necessary. In Mario Bros U, you only needed it to help your friends putting platforms. In Super Mario 3D world there where moments in which you could use the gamepad to reveal things, but they were more or less an optional feature, not making you use it. TW101, on the other hand, really has something that requires the gamepad. You can do the unite morphs with the right joystick, but drawing them is way simpler. Man, even Call of Duty Ghosts makes a better use of the gamepad with multiplayer double screen. HungryMetroid I don’t know about the two control sticks being a nightmare in pikmin 3. sure it was awful at first since I played the first two games with the wii remote and nunchuk, but I got used to it after a while and did far better on my second playthrough. I actually prefer using the gamepad now since it has the bonus of having the map right in my hands. darkcreap For me it is a question of lazyness. I got used to the Wiimote, I don’t like the joystick to move a pointer. Same happens to me with shooters. I first played them a computer and I am pretty much used to mice, so using double joysticks for shooters in consoles… That is why I prefer a WiiU for shooters in consoles: the Wiimote is perfect for me. Much more intuitive than joysticks. Much easier to learn. Joysticks are great to indicate direction, but to point is better a device that tracks your movement rather than if you press or not a direction. I see it more “real life” than the other system. If you move up, you look up. If you look down, you are in the original position. But again, you can master double joysticks if you try. Not in my case. I still don’t like them. EDIT: I loved the option in Wind Waker HD to point with the gamepad. Only issue is that you had to hold it in vertical position to calibrate it properly. It would have been even better to allow the WiiU gamepad screen to replicate what you saw on the TV screen on that moment. HungryMetroid I prefer using the wii remote for shooters too. my reaction time and accuracy is a lot better in shooters on the wii than ps3. crocodileman94 Lego City Undercover did an incredible job with the gamepad. Prince_AKR So does Need for Speed Most Wanted U. darkcreap Sorry, I forgot that one, even though I bought it. Only thing I did not like is that the map centered automatically on the character, which made it some times uncomfortable to try and navigate on the map because it returned to the center position. Indeed you are right, the map was very useful to prevent pausing the game plus it was great to have it as a communication device. Actually, if you remember, the sound from communication comes from the gamepad when the person that contacts you is speaking and on the TV when Chase is the one that speaks. The use as a camera and a sensor was cool too. Seth S. Scott Dont think so at all, if anything Smash will be the system’s last chance…oh wait no I mean HD Zelda er- wait, I mean the next Mario adventure. (the Wii U is fine) val berger from a nintendofans standpoint, WiiU may be finde. but I’m afraid, that’s it. Denvy GameCube was basically seen as a lost cause to everyone, but I’ve gotta say I’ve got great memories and some favorite games from that era. Wii U will be the same for me regardless where they place. val berger sure man, same with me, as we both are lovers of that company =) still a bit of wiis success wouldn’t hurt, right? at least I can now tell for sure, Nintendo might have learned a lot of how not to do it with their next systems launch. val berger by the way, with F-Zero GX, the Gamecube has had one of my favourite videogames of all time. Softballumpire yet your one of the people whom think Nintendo is doom and will go third party won’t happen will never happen val berger you might have misunderstood like everything I wrote so far if you think this. Softballumpire You don’t get it but i am not going to be fooled by any comments. val berger Ok, relax and have a nice day. Adameh_ I think one reason the Wii U is doing bad in the UK is the price. The Mario and Luigi Bundle is £249 which is around $410 zlk This is all a bit overblown. Nintendo is starting to approach releases for their major titles, but what they really need is A) That new IP they keep touting but then refuse to talk about in detail and B) To bring back some series that demand HD reboots (I’m looking at you F-Zero and Fire Emblem). Nintendo also needs to really get with the program on duel gamepad integration so they can get the sports games out. One of the biggest ideas that came with the pad was the possibility of the final realization of what Dreamcast started with play calling on individual screens. classictvdb I think a way to ‘save’ the Wii U is to give the ability of the Game Pad and the actual console run two apps or two games at once. I think it would be cool if one person could use the Wii U on the main TV screen and someone use could do something different on Game Pad and vice versa. With this thought someone could potentially use Netflix on the TV and someone else could play a game on the Game Pad. Vice versa a game could be played on the TV and a friend could browse the E-shop for the next title the friends will be play. And so. dan Mr. classictvdb, what you just said is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point in your incoherent rambling response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. We are all now dumber for having had listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul!! I thought games were supposed to bring people together…….. Gameonfool Not a bad idea though you could check the Internet or EShop while you still have the game running and not paused in the background. There are many other possibilities , would take allot of processing power and ram though. RyuNoHadouken Wii U would blow up if they tried to implement something like that Antar Rodríguez MK 8 the last chance?? what about smash, what about zelda u, what about X, there is no last chance cause the wii u wont fail with this games and the ones that havent even been announced Doctors Tardis Zelda u is way too far off, and jrpg won’t be a system seller. McBlink JRPG games bring in the hardcore and they have the loudest voice that can promote systems. Look at what Final Fantasy VII did for the PSONE. Denvy It wasn’t just FF VII, but a lot (i’d say most) of that was the agressive multi-million dollar ad campaign telling people they had to have it. Zuxs13 none of those games will sell well in UK, heck they aren’t even desired much in Japan. Fact is the only system seller so far this year will be Mario Kart. That guy who hates Spike Smash can be bought on 3DS. It’s very much similar People will buy it for Zelda U, it just won’t be that massive of a number. Probably the same number of those that bought it for Wind Waker HD. No one will buy the system for X Sylux noone buys the WiiU for X?, then I guess I’m noone, I won’t buy a WiiU until I have a release day for X and Bayonetta 2, for me that are the only two games at this time for which I buy a WiiU. Smash Brothers I’ll get on 3ds, Mario kart is fun with friends, but my friends are no fan of Nintendo consoles they all have ps3/4 and a 3DS. So I most likely won’t play Mario Kart 8, windwaker I have allready on GC, and the greatly improved graphics and hd are excellent, but won’t sell the system to me. And those words I hear a lot in my local gamesstore from many people, we buy a WiiU only for Zelda U, X and Bayonetta 2. So in all fairness your statement is a little flawed 😉 That guy who hates Spike My statement is flawed because you are an outlier? Almost all statements and graphs have outliers. Sylux Did you notice the winking smile at the end? I’m being a little sarcastic on your statement, although I do not agree that noone buys the system for X and Bayonetta, there are people who buy it for those games, I’m one of those people, but I won’t buy the system only for these titles. I’ll have the system before they release but both games are day one purchases for me, and higher on my to buy list then the multiplayer games like mariokart 8 and smash brothers. Sadly if I buy these games (mk8 and ssb) it’s true that I have to play them online for multiplayer matches though and play single player at home, I don’t want to drag my soon to get WiiU to my friends every time and I don’t have enough room to be in my appartment with 4-5 people to play WiiU. That guy who hates Spike Sorry I mistranslated a wink 😉 Tell me, what do you think that wink above me means? Sylux I really think you are making a joke? Nah I’m joking for real, when having a written message it’s hard to see sarcasm and therefor I should apologize, and more clearly state I was being a bit sarcastic. I should have formulated my text differently. I see often people trying to be sarcastic in typed text and others take it serious while the original author was being sarcastic, in this case I make the same mistake as I see others have made before me. If a similair situation applies in the future I shall write “next part is sarcasm” or something. I’ll leave it at this, time for some monsterhunter. Wayne Beck Your not wrong, but your not right either. Neither is the arrogant retailers. No one game is going to be THE game. The only thing that can “save” the Wii U is a prolonged schedule of high profile releases. Nintendo needs to release five High Profile Games this year and at least four additional games to fill in the gaps. That, coupled with the minimal AAA third party support, is how you turn around a console. Ace People are tired of waiting. And there’s no guarentee that the games you’ve mentioned are coming out this year despite the fact that Nintendo said some of them are coming this year. I say that because there are too many delays… It just makes you wonder if they are coming out this year. Justagamer Just wait may or sell your Wii U but we are staying the course But im so ready for smash bros and mario cart Softballumpire and people are still waiting on other systems to. Everyone wants Nintendo to put all its Easter eggs in one basket. That seriously not a smart business move. Tiago Gomes They say this and its simple! MK8 will be released before SS, if sales dont catch up with MK8 they are probably assuming that none other great game will push sales up Wildman Metroid too. That’s one of the Aces up Nintendo’s sleeve. Antar Rodríguez woow what the… guess people hate other people that think the wii u wont fail GregoryTheRainMaker Retailer says Mario Kart 8 for Wii U is Nintendo’s last chance to get it right Response: Nope. You don’t determine what Nintendo’s “last chance” to get it right is just because the UK isn’t too keen with the Wii U right now. Nintendo has to pull a 3DS to help the Wii U. And Mario Kart 8 is certainly not going just make the Wii U an overnight success. Nintendo has to imitate the 3DS to get the Wii U back on track with improved marketing for ALL their games. This is not difficult. Christian Schoff Last I checked off TV playability is one of the coolest features ever introduced in a system ever. So just for that I’m glad to use the Gamepad. Guest Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 should really help. But what would it to get 3rd party games also? Shota if only j-stars victory versus came to Wii U. damn sony music entertainment japan Skelterz Party chat metroid online with a darker atmosphere to make it more ”core” ehh i hate using that word, but you know darker setting serious plot blood violence and quality guns cmon system seller could become the FPS that everyone wants to play. Zanzama You mean a new Metroid Prime Hunters? Skelterz To be fair i haven’t played a lot of metroid so i don’t know but there’s a longing for something dark and ”core” so let it be metroid that paves the way for nintendo finding there feet doing some more adult games, also to note they own fatal frame why the fuck aint they making one!!! Zanzama Fatal Frame just screams to be top candidate for innovative use of the gamepad. It would certainly pave new territory in the horror genre and uniqueness is what Nintendo wants to be about after all. And I would also like a new Eternal Darkness… Skelterz Never played eternal darkness, But yeah defo fatal frame should be in there top priority because its unique gameplay and something that would at first feel out of place and unexpected but in turn would excite people about nintendo’s new direction of ip’s they would create it would do really well in japan also. Josiah Parsons I loved the local multiplayer on that one! SOOOOO much fun! lonewolf And yet Metroid prime didn’t sell that good compared with the rest of nintendo IPs. Skelterz true but times have changed we’ll have to wait and see. Rinslowe I also think Nintendo should use the Metroid franchise to address their own take on a FPS genre. To match the competition in some way with a unique experience of their own… Like they do with other franchises in their portfolio. Also not one to make comparisons of their IP’s with other titles on other platforms. But given the material available and potential for scope, there’s nothing stopping them from making Metroid a little bit like Halo, in formula. Epic scope, scripted pacing and a mean score. Not to mention, some form of online multiplayer… Again there’s plenty of material to make it a fully robust experience there as well. Characters, classes, weapons and killer locales. Skelterz exactly GermGerm Make a legit pokemon game with the original 150 pokemon. Good graphics, good gameplay. Good voice acting. With ash and all his friends. Put it on wii u. Guaranteed to sell. neostar1234 You suggest that no pokemon game has been legit. Also every pokemon game has the original 150 pokemon. And Ash has nothing to do with the games at all, he was made up for the anime. I get the feeling you’re a genwunner. Eric I can’t speak for the fellow, but I think what GermGerm meant was a legit *console* Pokemon game. I never got into that franchise when I was a kid, despite growing up with Generation 1, but I won’t deny that a main entry in the Pokemon franchise on Wii U would sell more systems than any other one franchise in Nintendo’s hands. GermGerm Thanks Eric! You can speak for me anytime cause obviously you understand what I was getting at. Pokemon on the 3ds is selling like crazy. Imagine a huge pokemon world with decent graphics on the wii u. It would sell. It would help nintendo out a lot. GermGerm I didn’t suggest that no pokemon game has been legit… you made that up all on your own to start an argument. When I used the word legit I was referring to all of the handheld pokemon games. I want one of those on the wii u. Not another pokemon stadium or pokemon snap. While I did enjoy those games, I don’t think they would help the console out a whole lot. I think a true pokemon game on the console would help it out though. While I didn’t suggest there has never been a legit pokemon game I WAS suggesting that I wanted JUST the 150 pokemon. I realize they are in every game. Thanks for clearing that up for me… really. You seem to take what you want from my post and twist it to start some kind of debate. I know that Ash was made for the tv show. Again, I was suggesting they put him and his friends in the game. I think I would like to see that. So basically you just took all of my opinions and tried to make it sound like I was stating them as facts so that you could start an argument for no reason. Good job. If you disagree with my idea then just say so. Thumb me down and move on bro. Genwunner huh? I get the feeling you’re a nerd. neostar1234 Funny how you get on me for making stuff up when you proceed to make stuff up yourself. I was not trying to start an argument, I was just saying you were essentially suggested that no pokemon game has been legit because you didn’t clarify what “legit” meant. I wasn’t twisting anything, I was saying why Ash and friends COULDN’T be in the games because they mean jack to the main series except from a side game or too that only came out back in the 90’s.I never acted like you stated them as facts, I explained why it’s more than likely they’ll never have anything to do with the main series. How the hell did you not know every single pokemon since the very first games have been in every game since? If you were up to date on anything Pokemon, you would have known this. Also, really? You respond with me thinking you’re a genwunner (because me and 8 people seem to all have read your comment and thought “WAAAAH, GEN 1 GEN 1 GEN 1” the second we read “with the original 150 pokemon.” Every single genwunner says the exact same thing you said: “With the original 150 pokemon,”) with nerd? Great come back. See, those last parts were completely unneeded and were made that way specifically to piss you off and start an argument. Learn the difference between this and what I typed originally. GermGerm Yes I knew they were in every game. Learn to pick up sarcasm. Nice try dude. neostar1234 “See, those last parts were completely unneeded and were made that way specifically to piss you off and start an argument.” I see you didn’t finish reading GermGerm How was you missing my sarcasm suppose to piss me off? Sorry man but you’re just not too bright. Either way I think we can both agree we would love for a new pokemon game to come to the wii u. In any form. Good day sir. neostar1234 “How was you missing my sarcasm suppose to piss me off? ” You obviously completely missed the point of my last comment. I made that shit up exclusively to piss you off, and so far it seems to have worked. I knew you were being sarcastic. I think you’re the one who isn’t that bright. Cyberus But every single Pokèmon game has the original 150 GermGerm Cool story bro. Heaven on Earth Nintendo is in deep waters of trouble and with no third party support its hard to imagine them being around for awhile if they cant release 1st party games on a regular basis .Nintendo basically rode the wave of success with the wii and basically slapped the u onto wii and assumed it would deliver the same groundbreaking experience s for the wii u.Times have changed and no longer are people willing to shell out 300 for just mario and zelda in this unstable economy.Nintendo had no backup plan for the wii u which is why their is no promotion or any signs of changes being made to bring life to the system the gamepad is the most expensive piece of technology equiped with the wii u that does not deliver anything game changing I am gaming on the ps4 this generation If nNintendo dont get their foot out their ass.The truth is the diehard fans of nintendo already own the wii u and those waiting on zelda and mario kart will only be a minority because most people think the gamepad is a add on. If nintendo fail its because they destroyed their own chances of surviving this generation. dan this is where people prove their stupidity. can people read? can people investigate? All you have to do is read the literature to know that the gamepad is not just an add on and that the Wii U is a new system entirely. That is just a lazy excuse. and we have proven ourselves to be lazy. I have a U and I love it! I do not get the complaints about Mass Effect and Assasins Creed etc…..they are awesome. For lack of a better word it is gaming bullying. people are made to feel inferior for having a nintendo console instead of the big bad unimaginative snorestation and snoozebox. there are backdoor deals going on and a conspiracy to push nintendo out of the console market. Sony and MS are leveraging against the big name 3rd party software makers and they in turn are not supporting nintendo in hopes that they will go away. Heaven on Earth For people like us its easy to know that the wii u is a new system its pretty much commonsense. However thats goes to show you that the casual audience have moved on to other devices of entertainment which is why I said the diehard Nintendo fans already own a wii u. dan it haqs to do with our culture needing to have everything spoonfed to them like they are babies. Heaven on Earth Yea for nintendo to have a chance this generation they have to make a comeback themselves I read somewhere on the internet that gamestop is now canceling watchdogs pre orders which is bad because Ubisoft is the main 3rd party supporter of the wii u.I believe what you said about sony and Microsoft backdoor deals has some logic in it. Softballumpire That is not true and that was a rumor that was also glitch on Italy. gamestop. Get your damn facts straight Heaven on Earth I said I read somewhere did not said it was a fact so gets your facts straight because anybody can talk hard on the internet pussy stick to softball lol Softballumpire If you knew a damn thing you would of said it was a rumor and you don’t know a damn thing about softball. I umpire softball but clearly you can’t read. Also softballs can and do hurt they also can leave a good size bruised. My UIC whom both does Baseball and softball at 10u softball toruny and when the ball’s came in one went hit him in face and got a black and blue eye no joke heeled very quick though. All you did was do the same site spread a lie. Heaven on Earth Im lost what in the hell do you umpiring softball got to do with the wii u lmao you are the weakest link goodbye. Softballumpire Oh look you change tatcits. you insulted my umpiring. i spoke about it. i never said it had anything to do wii u. In fact you are trying to change the subject cause i just destroyed your image. Softballumpire Grow hell up McBlink They put their popular characters in a fighting game that took off, why not put them in a FPS, Team Fortress, CTF, death-match setting. Who wouldn’t want to play 16 player death-match through out the Mushroom Kingdom. Melee attacks with a banana or sniping as Link with a cross-bow? Forbsz I have dreamed of a game like this for years now! Josiah Parsons Super First Person Bros? Super Shot Bros? Super Smash Bros 3D? Sounds epic, but a good name is seriously lacking… What the heck, I’d buy it! LopsidedPasta That would never work! *thinks through it* Samus shoots energy balls Mario/Luigi shoot fire/acid Pikachu shoots electricity Link shoots arrows Mega Man shoots energy shots Yoshi shoots eggs Fox and Falco use their blasters Iceclimbers shoot Ice Kirby has the beam ability Holy crap. It works. Nin1986 YEEESSSSSSSS!!!!! Seriously that’s a great game concept. TO be honest with few gameplay mechanic differences most FPS are the same…. Run around, sneak around (for the knifing), aim, shoot, guard (camp), capture, get on this or that shoot some more, and finally get more points than the other team/s. I read another post somewhere a couple of days ago that someone is bound to step on the next big gaming craze (game concept) and this is it. I can see other FPS players cry so many obscenities but to be honest, once they play it, if it has what should be in a FPS, they can’t deny it would be most amazing. Man if there was anything more sure in this world, oh other than death and taxes….. Damn I want this game now. instead of dying players turn into coins, ala CoD Kill Confirmed, if you get it and just start collecting them they magically appear in Club Nintendo for all those special goodies Vehicles/aircraft, ala Battlefiled, dropping shells from a biplane, Bullet bill killstreak coming from the heavens onto your head, the Insanity Okay I’m done dreaming Zuxs13 Why is it everyone seems to think that the GamePad needs some “revolutionary” gamepad game to make it appealing? Just pick it up and play any game, with a streamlined menu or maps, use it to navigate through the OS or netflix, and you will see how nice the appeal is. Try navigating through the Xbox One with your hand in the air, especially with a room full of people, and you will see how much easier the gamepad is to use. I think most people would rather sit on their couch and touch an Icon of the show they want to watch, rather than yelling at the TV over and over and over again. Sometimes subtle things can be revolutionary. Sure some new and different games will be great, but most of us have been playing with touch screen devices for a few years now so there wont be a lot you could do with it that will be as “revolutionary” like having a cell phone with a touch screen for the first time. dan how about you do not need the tv to play the f-ing game!!!! I mean really are we that challenged that everything have to be candy for the eyes? Have we no independent thought or imagination anymore? The dumbing down of the human race is happening with every new tech gadget. shameful Zuxs13 I love that feature too. But opponents to it always say “its localized to the same room” etc. I think it might be cool if a future firmware update and or a network adapter allowed the game pad to work on wireless N wifi in your house. Nintendoro What about Smash Bros, Bayonetta, X, Next Zelda, Donkey Kong?… Most of Wii U’s exclusives aren’t out just yet. What Nintendo needs is to start advertise Wii U all over again while showing all upcoming and existing exclusives, with new system price tag, new system colors, new bundles and a clear explanation that Wii U is not a Wii and what it does. If that fails, we’re doomed. Doomed I tell ya!!!! NkoSekirei it just shows that some retailers dont do their research LopsidedPasta 4.2 million sounds bad to anyone. Especially retailers. You can disagree with them, but you can’t blame them. DragonSilths Nintendo has more issues then just lack of advertising to work out. Snowspot “What about Smash Bros, Bayonetta, X, Next Zelda, Donkey Kong?” Besides Smash, I doubt those will be system-sellers, Nintendo has been off it’s game for a while. They haven’t created something awe-inspiring since their gamecube days, perhaps it’s because they are a generation behind in terms of console development.. I own a wii U but I’m seriously pissed at the state of the e-shop and the state of the system library. Rinslowe “They haven’t created something awe-inspiring since their gamecube days…” Say what? Snowspot Gamecube was the last console Nintendo bothered trying on, Nintendo is lucky they don’t have a real competitor in the handheld market. Rinslowe “Gamecube was the last console Nintendo bothered trying on” Sorry man, cannot agree. Snowspot I’ll say Super Mario Galaxy was awe-inspiring, but to me that was the last time I saw a Nintendo game and said Wow. Speaking as a Nintendo fan.. most of the wii generation felt like someone imitating Nintendo. I see their entire library becoming sequels, it’s not good and it only works for so long (as evident by the recent sales numbers). Rinslowe Every publisher has their fair share of sequels to be fair, lol. Yes, I agree Galaxy 1 & 2 was awe-inspiring… So was, IMO Skyword Sword recently after dedicating myself to it. Why I didn’t before I now cannot understand, but, I also realise the opinion on that one is a polarised one. Um, lets see… Xenoblade Chronicles was absolute masterclass… So there’s 3 titles right off the top of my head which to me is why I cannot agree and – I could have kept that opinion on just one… Cyberus Galaxy was awe inspiring. Galaxy 2 was an expansion pack Rinslowe I just see them as 1 & 2… A combined level of awe… 🙂 Josiah Parsons Honestly, Super Mario 3D world was a WOW moment for me… val berger true that. yesterday I played that game with 3 friends for the first time. We couldn’t stop playing until we reached World 6 and suddenly 5 hours were over. It’s insane. Denvy 1 player is fun, but multiplayer is great! Josiah Parsons Never do “cakewalk flip” with more than one player. just sayin’. Softballumpire typical answer. i haven’t seen anythign revouitionary on ps3,ps4 or xbox one or 360. that ccouldn’t be done on last gen system. its not about power or grapchis Snowspot I’m not defending the xbone/ps4 I don’t own either and at this point there isn’t really a reason to buy either. I’m sure fans of both, and the wii u, could throw together some haphazard list of mediocre titles and say they were reasons to buy the system… but besides Super mario 3d World (or whatever it’s called) I don’t see a reason to buy any of the newest consoles yet. Softballumpire I am talking about power/grapchis not a system you like or not. What drives me nuts its people and compaines say it has nothing to do with power/grapchis and yet… it does… but yet when it came to PS2 they totally change there tune. xbox was the most powerful console than cube than ps2 Marcus Larsson The ps2 sold as a mother…… Because of the dvd which led to more third party games which led to more sales which led to more third partys which led to more sales which led to more so on and so on… sup3rnoah I don’t need revolutionary gameplay on the gamepad, I just love playing off tv. That’s enough for me. But go ahead and throw some neat ideas, I won’t complain. frank gore “needs something revolutionary” I can play console games while taking a dump with the tablet. How is this not revolutionary? Guesty Pooh! While you have a valid point (and it is borderline between revolutionary and bizarre) I consider the option to play games while staying in the same room as my family, (without being relegated to another room) while they watch t.v. a revolution, just a poorly advertised one. Best Too much focused on the kid market. Not enough different from the Wii overall. Needs new Casual and Hardcore games that aren’t just for kids or remakes. Not saying not to make kid games, but to have choice. GABRIEL GARCIA Yuhuuu dforce79 You sir have made me laugh. Swirling good time!:-) John Andalora How? Every time I tried it said I was out of range. GABRIEL GARCIA Are u kidding ?? I play while takin a shit on the restroom bro, where u go ? To the park and try to play there ??? Jajaja that’s the 3ds for !!! John Andalora I go to the restroom right next to my room. Always fails. val berger as the system struggles to compete not just against other home consoles but also smart mobile devices, this is exactly a point, that just doesn’t differ from a phone or tablet too much. Sure, it’s amazing that you can play Zelda on the toilet, but that’s not revolutionary. Not in the eyes of the mainstream masses, as people fave been able to play games there earlier. just not AAA home console games, so it’s more like an evolution. This guy is right, there’s nothing you can tell the typical PS4-buyer, what would make the gamepad something crucial you wanna have and haven’t seen before. Once tried out, it surely rocks, but hard to explain why. Nin1986 I remember playing ZombiU on launch thinking “holy crap someone tell me what’s coming” as I played with my kids. That game, even though for the masses the the slow progression was bad for them, was excellent for me and excellent in showing the gamepad in a very unique way. Unfortunately it just didn’t catch. I just recently repurchased RE4 wii edition for my Wii U, I never had time to finish it on gamecube, and as I played I kept thinking about ZombiU and it realtime inventory management. Anyway another game that could have benefitted would have been Madden if EA could just pay the one guy to copy past the roster every year. Yeah the frame rate on the launch was bad but, if they could have brought in this year again, with the actual physics updates and dual gamepad support I know I would have enjoyed it 🙂 unfortunately 1 guy can’t keep a business afloat. As for Nintendoland, I must be honest and just say that was simply no Wii Sports in terms of having the hook for gamers, family or otherwise. Outside of the novelty of the asynchronous events in that game and playing for half hour till no one wants to be the ghost, or candy guards it was again to me just a dud. Yup, remote play in same room with family is, right about now, the only advantage the gamepad has. My wife loves her Hulu for girl shows and I can keep shooting people with my gamepad, very excellent. Hmm, just thought of dual screens so my kids and I can play multiplayer with the gamepads as of now we are stuck with just one player on the thing while someone has our 50 inch for shows 🙂 Unfortunately with regards to two gamepads, well we all think it is half the console so price is pretty steep with that. val berger true that, zombiU is quite a good example of pointing out the drama of the wiiU. great game, much potential, but it just didn’t sell enough as Nintendo couldn’t get the necessary target audience away from their PSes and XBOXes. Never finished the game, as I was too chicken and need a friend to play with me but we always ended up playing something else, so there is quite some good stuff going on on tzhat system after all =) Denvy Zelda on the pot might not be revolutionary, but awesome nonetheless 😉 Softballumpire No one said it was that the point. acutally there a huge diffrence with phone and smart mobile device Softballumpire How Nintendo not even in the market with mobile. val berger I’m afraid I don’t understand the question. Nintendoro Cool stuff Graeme Lynch It isn’t really… Arthur Jarret I already could… (got a view of my blank wall from there, so if I turn my beamer on, I got a good screen) but now I can do it with the door closed. Agent721 Mariokart needs awesome online & reviews in the 9s & it will move systems. Will it be enough to push the Wii U into respectable sales territory? I certainly hope so…and if not, I’m sure I’ll love it regardless. Hopefully we can all meet up online for games when it happens. Aleks I just thought of something, i hope Nintendo isn’t as overconfident crafting this next Mariokart as they were with their financial estimates. This game NEEEEEDS to be incredibly STELLAR to keep the media dogs at bay. This game cannot afford to even be a B+. I’m afraid if it is NOT on track to be an A+ to everyone that touches it, right now, its too late. It can’t be delayed now. Thank god online play was a day 1 idea. No pressure, lol. Fingers crossed! Sam bs audi lover i really dnt know anyone who bought a console in a English supermarket. May be some footballers WAG SuperSonicBrawler MK8 is probably the Nintendo game I’m LEAST excited for this year. The last game in the series I owned was Double Dash, and I only ever played it when I had a group of friends around. It’s no fun playing it by yourself. As far as games that have already been confirmed to launch in 2014, X is probably my most anticipated. I would be more excited for Smash Bros. on Wii U if Nintendo hadn’t made the godawful decision to put it on the 3DS too. There’s no incentive to buy a Wii U for that game when you know you can get it on the 3DS. I already have a Wii U, but not all my friends do, which means they’ll likely buy it for the 3DS, so if I have any hope of playing it with them, I’ll have to get the 3DS version, which means my Wii U will continue to go unused for the better half of 2014. In short, as of right now, X is Nintendo’s only hope to attract more hardcore gamers to their system this year. And I’d venture to say that that’s not a good thing… Squid Nintendo will be fine, wiimenonowiiu The y just need to get the word out wii would like U to play Iwata Mario Kart 8 is going well. We will most likely get it right. ScrewAttack So….no retailer specified, no quote saying “last chance blah blah blah”….another JK article eh? Sad. NkoSekirei (facepalm) really retailer their other big games coming this year for the wii u not just mario kart 8 and no the price is fine for the wii u and try asking the other console gamers that have to shell out $500 for an xbox one and $400 for a ps4 no offence. RichM Believe it or not, I read every single comment so far on this thread. We all know MK8 is NOT their last chance to survive. Times have definately changed and now that we live in this age of instant information, nothing is hurting the Wii U more than the negative publicity it is getting from bloggers and news outlets. When the N64 was doing bad, you didn’t hear about it the day of. Companies had time to react to negative publicity, they don’t have that now. The Wii U has been hurting for over a year and you would think that is sufficient time to get your act together, but it’s not. Games take years to develope. HD remakes are the new thing these days because we need fillers while we wait for AAA titles. Indeed there are some good games coming out this year, but not enough have been announced and we have no definate release date on any of them other than DK:TF. So, we are all left here hoping and praying that Nintendo is going to wow us and gain our confidence back. That’s what’s killing Nintendo. Even it’s core supporters are left wondering why they have abandoned them. I own a Wii U and I feel that the 3DS gets all the love. I could care less about Xbox and PS. But, the 3DS gets the love because even Nintendo has to look at the bottom line. I agree with many comments that Smash on 3DS is going to hurt the game selling Wii U systems. Nintendo fans want Nintendo games. There is a serious lack of them on the Wii U at this point of the game. We should have already had a Metroid game by now. At this point in the gamecubes lifespan, we already had news about a second metroid game. We need all the heavy hitters and we need them soon: Zelda, Metroid, F Zero, Star Fox, X, Bayonetta 2, Pilot Wings, Earthbound, Animal Crossing, Mario RPG, Kirby, Yoshi, Luigi’s Mansion…pay Square Enix to remake chrono trigger and chrono cross, see if you can get some older FF re-done as well. I know VII os out of the question, but why not 8 or 9? If the Wii U is like the Gamecube, then we need a Final Fantasy game exclusive to the system. PAY THEM! And get Fatal Frame and Pokemon Snap while you’re at it. Ok, that rant went longer than expected. Leo I agree with you that the mass hysteria perpetuated by bloggers is in the eye of the hurricane. No company can sustain its business facing daily negativity which contaminates the public perception at this fast rate, its a social disease and while you are at the winning side like Sony and Microsoft you stimulates this to defeat your competitor, but there is absolutely no guarantee that those companies will remain on the winning side. There is always be the possibility that someday they could be on the other side (Microsoft experienced a minor internet meltdown when announced the XBO). I fear what will be the outcome of this mess in the gaming industry, by looking at what its happening to Nintendo i see no future at all in this business. The internet gossip will probably collapse this industry. RichM I am hearing rumors that Titanfall is meh, but the internet keeps talking like it’s the future of gaming. BF4 was suppose to be great and then it had massive issues. People seem to forget that Nintendo went from N64 to Gamecube to Wii. Everyone thought Nintendo was doomed back in the N64 and Gamecube days. But they didn’t die and then they came back with the 2nd best selling console of all time (Wii). It took the PS3 along time to get back in the game. The Vita is finally starting to sell. But the PSP was a pretty bad flop too. Microsoft has always been second to either Nintendo or Sony. This industry changes so quickly. One generation you’re the top dog, then you’re last place. This is the second time this has happened to Nintendo (SNES to the N64). If anything, they’re use to it. Leo Absolutely, thats why i have faith on Nintendo to turn the table like they did so many times. But regardless their position on the market, my concern is with the industry itself, 15 years ago we used to rely on monthly magazines to get information, the bias was already there since the early 90s, but now the internet is a massive entity in itself that is dictating the rules of the game and leading the spread of negativity, as you suggested and i definitely agree its insanely difficult for companies to shift their strategies at the fast rate that gossip spreads on the internet. Not only within the gaming industry but in society in general, we are seeing major riots all over the world against governments in general and just like niche companies they struggle to react. The instant information is a big weapon that will force everyone to adapt coherently or collapse. Brian Lockett Parse, man, parse! Justagamer I love how the haters come out of the woodwork and say this crap but watch it will turn around..I will never give up on Nintendo Mario Me neither. Justagamer Agreed and let them hate..Most haters are stuck to one console and will bash anyone who does not agree with them..and that will never happen from me ..I own all three and have different games for each. audi lover Regardless buy unepic now its epic Leo Mass hysteria. If you ever doubt about it, this situation is a proof that people are easily brainwashed, reaching a point to even try rationalize their hysteria to justify it. Its sad. GABRIEL GARCIA You suck write something positive about the wii u mother fucker !!!! The wii u won’t fail stupid!!! Dammmm I’m tired of this shit !! Say something good about Nintendo or don’t write a shit bro !! Mario There IS no last chance. And I don’t think that Mario kart 8 is THE game that will save the WiiU. No. I think it is one of the the games that, along with games like Super smash bros 4 and others, will help with the console’s very survival. Because I’m not counting on one game to save it. I’m counting on all of them. Adecentboy777 Right after some months after the launch I already knew that Nintendo will have big problems with the Wii U as long as they follow they own stupidity and here it is. They should have changed their strategy for a long time ago, BUT nothing happend. Iwata always tried to calm down the gamers with “please understand” 🙂 I am Error. Agreed, with no explanations given there’s nothing for us to “please understand”. They’re a well-established company with deep pockets that can’t be used to higher additional developers?! With the resources at their disposal F-Zero, StarFox and Metroid fans shouldn’t be wondering IF they’ll get to see an HD sequel. InterTreble Ahahah! How many time do I have heard the phrase “last chance” referred to Nintendo? Ahahah! And we are always here, happy and delighted by games that other systems, even with 8 cores, will NEVER have, never. Like MK8. Which is not a “last chance” for Nintendo, but a “good chance” for videogamers to buy a game different from the same FPS and iper-realistic games, always the same, you can play elsewhere. oontz “the same FPS and iper-realistic games, always the same, you can play elsewhere.” Except on wiiu… and that is the problem. InterTreble you are a troll… this is the problem. oontz Certainly not a troll but thanks for trying. I am a Nintendo fan at heart, been so for 30+ years. Doesn’t mean I should also be blind and unrealistic. If people could buy a wiiu and play all types of games and NOT JUST Nintendo IPs, then you know what…? More people would buy a wiiu. You’re the one who sounds like a troll… crawl back under your bridge and put your blind fold back on. Daniel Gonzalez Yeeeeah….I see him making comments like this often with little to no proof to back up what he says. It’s always the usual “troll” or “Nintendo hater” response if you disagree. It’s amusing. InterTreble Blah… Blah… Blah… oontz ha ha, exactly. Blah… Blah… Blah… that’s all that comes out of your mouth. InterTreble I just reply as you deserve. You are not interesting, and what you say even less. Rest in peace… 😉 Oblivion Nintendo refuses to pay companies for exclusives because they say they don’t want that to become the standard..but it’s already been the standard for a decade. Virtually no one owns a Wii U and they want companies to gamble their own money by putting their game on it. They need to open that wallet of theirs and give companies a reason to develop for it. Also these: 1. Real Exclusives 2. Actually have Online Multiplayer/Coop in first party games 3. Some adapter that lets everyone use a headset at the same time (think the original motion plus adapter) 4. Super Mario 64 2 with Super Mario 64 “ReUMagined” on the same disk. 5. N64 Virtual Console titles including all of the original Turok games, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and so on. JcEp Have they ever done Mario Kart wrong?…ever? Oblivion They keep leaving Dry bones out of the character roster. JcEp lol I just dont get why its Always Nintendo that has to do something new and amazing to prove themselves. Xbox or Playstation never really do anything new and when they do it kinda sucks…sides the ordering pizza on xbox thing, That rules! Oblivion Well it’s not really new, he used to be in the game and now for some reason they just left him out for the last 2-3? games. They have a bunch of other people no one cares about to make up for it though. JcEp Not what I meant at all I was just talking in general…..but yeah I agree Mo Mo Last chance, I guess i just don’t agree. I feel like people bashing the 2nd screen haven’t played the right games. The wonderful 101 and smb 3D Land both make excellent use of the gamepad, not to mention party games like party u and Nintendo land that do some neat 1 versus 4 things. I also really enjoy the off tv play offered by most games. It really frustrates me that people judge this system without actually trying it. Aside from the vc issues, the Wii U is fantastic. Kevin James McAllister I love the Gamepad on my Wii U. I love using it for inventory management, maps, and off-screen play. I love the different ways it was used in Nintendo Land. That being said, in my opinion I haven’t seen the game that makes the Gamepad a “must have” part of the console, other than the fact that you need it to go on the eShop. And what was so great about its use in 3d World? 3D World’s only “game-pad only” features were touching items on like 3 worlds and blowing into the mic. Kenshin0011 Let’s be honest, SMB3D World does NOT use the gamepad in an intriguing way besides the Captain toad mink games. Blowing on the mic and swiping invisible blocks gets old after one try. Denvy For you perhaps Kenshin0011 Woooow, you kidding me? Let’s be objective here, blowing on the mic and swiping is nothing revolutionary. It’s been done since the DS days and is not very intuitive. This is coming from a day one 3ds, 3dsxl, and wii u owner. There’s nothing wrong with constructive criticism! C4 “It’s been done since the DS days and is not very intuitive.” I agree, without moving by hand I can reach not even half of the screen with my thumb. Other then that the pointer (the hand when you keep pressing the touchscreen) actually works and shows the potential here and there, like in those normal touch levels you can’t access with the other controllers. One player manipulating stuff and others playing normally is a nice concept for local MP though, I hope there’s some of that in Smash and Mario Kart (obviously should be in sepeate game modes or at least possible to disable) Too much wasted potential, on the other hand less GamePad feature stuff allows for easier Off-TV Play and use of the other controllers… Denvy My comment was aimed at it “getting old after one try”. That’s not an objective statement. Glad to meet a fellow day one owner of everything, but it’s still a meaningless thing to boast about. Softballumpire No one said it was, but lets look what so revolutionary with ps4 and Xbox one? NOTHING!!!! Rinslowe One thing I’ve been really enjoying in recent titles on various platforms, is the effort put into making the sky more than just a revolving 2D plane… It really adds depth to the experience and MK8 is looking very polished. 🙂 Can’t wait! Kart should definitely help Wii U sell some systems, everywhere. But it can’t change the install base – to being phenomenal – by one title alone… But Nintendo certainly can “one title at a time”… Rich Garriques NOT ANOTHER STUPID ARTICLE LIKE THIS ENOUGH!! , YOU FUCKING STUPID NEW SITES ARE CONTRIBUTING TO NINTENDOS FAILURE WITH YOUR FUCKING ARTCLES!! Kenshin0011 I think the 2014 line up for wii u is great and I’m looking forward to it. I also think that people expect Nintendo to freaking supply this crazy out of the box experience while no one bats an eye at the tybical mundaneness of ps4 and Xbox One are being used mainly to play COD. That being said, I do think Nintendo should be more ambitious in general with the wii u. We still have yet to see a truly unique AAA first party Nintendo game that wows us. Mario Galaxy for wii was something truly stunning that we’d never experienced before. If Nintendo is out of ideas, that’s fine, but why not create a huge open world successor to Super Mario 64? That’d be epic and is something fans want. nexxus6 At first I thought I missed something. Where in any of the above quotes did it state that Mario Kart was Nintendo’s “last chance” to get it right? Initially, I thought that the headline of this article was a bit misleading. If you are looking for that exact part of the interview, you need to access the article on MCV. Why wouldn’t that quote be included in the Wiiudaily article, especially since it is what the headline refers to? GmailIsDown i am still waiting for a sequel to Fatal Frame on Wii U. it is as if the gamepad is made for this game. i won’t mind buying a Japanese Wii U if Nintendo refuses to release it outside of Japan. Josie the Sketcher Nintendo, please hurry up with another Direct ASAP! Rinslowe Fastest way to saving the Wii U is to stop thinking that it’s doomed. Cause it’s far from doomed… IMO. C4 I agree. Those downwards spiral media reactions have to stop. It’s like people have a grudge against Nintendo and not proper journalism. nexxus6 There is definitely an under current in the gaming industry that seems to be pulling for Nintendo’s demise. Prizm The tablet controller was dumb idea. It might make one or two games innovative, but for most games you’ve got to deal with this big clunky controller that serves little purpose. And the ironic thing is that since many Wii games are for the younger/family market, little kids have trouble holding the tablet. They should’ve just stuck to the Wiimote. And who cares about being able to play Wii U while someone else is using the TV. TVs are cheap. Get another TV or just tell the kid to play his 3DS. Or just tell him to wait till the TV is free. Denvy Not all kids. My six year old (who is considered on the small size of his class) has no problem playing with it. And I disagree. Off TV play is a great idea and very convenient. Oh, and I tried playing Super Mario 3D world in my 3DS. Won’t fit. C4 Which makes it a good accessory, I agree. Would Wii U for 80$ less (w/o Gamepad in the box) and GamePad for like 120$ be a problem? Denvy Considering some games can’t be played without it, I’d consider it a problem. C4 Yeah, that’s a problem. Everything from the home menu (browser, miiverse, even the eShop) is made to navigate with the GamePad. Softballumpire really so accodring to you. ps4 and xbox one shoudln’t cost more than $100 C4 I’m not good with math. A GamePad-less Wii U could have launched at 250€ (same price as Wii at launch in europe, don’t know how much $ it was) Makes people buy consoles and allows to drop the price as soon as manufacturing costs drop. Chips might drop faster then a device like the GamePad. The GamePad itself then can be sold as an accessory for 100+ $. Xbox One without Kinect for 100$ less? Why not 🙂 Softballumpire Why take out the gamepad what is the hate on the controller what is the big deal with the hate why can’t people enjoy it C4 That’s not my point. I like it, except it’s not as comfy as the Pro Controller or other pads (I don’t mind the size or weight itself though) it’s a good controller. But I think it doesn’t make people buy Wii U and it increases production cost and price. Either way they need to find something to sell more Wii U. At the moment it’s probably a better idea to push Wii U and also its unique features like the GamePad or even 1 – 2 games with clever Wii Remote support 🙂 . A second SKU without the GamePad even at a more interesting price point would probably confuse more people… Softballumpire No, the gamepad is very useful to many people but how hard is to say ” i just don’t like the feel compare to game pro” it a controller… nothing everyone going to like it. Softballumpire He we go again with “its for kids crap” Its for everyone its not clunky you clearly have never even tried or used it, its very simple and i like the feature that means if i had a friend over and he or she wanted to watch tv. and i didn’t like that show i would…. used the gamepad. Not everyone has money to buy two tv’s and add another cable box which cost money. your not bright btw i am 26 and i own a wii u Prizm I never said it was just for kids. MachoMadness Bah, 2 of Nintendos biggest console sellers are coming out this year in Mario Kart and Smash Bros. How many times have you heard people say they buy a Nintendo console for those games (and Zelda)? Mithiragi All the time lol edge The most obvious uses of the gamepad that I could think of are Fatal Frame and Pokemon Snap, yet I see no evidence that either are in development. I mean isn’t it obvious? Use the tablet to control the camera and post your pictures to Miiverse?? What’s sad is that Nintendo is in the position of limping from game to game, hoping that each release is “the one”. NintendoLand didn’t do it. NSMBU didn’t do it. Game and Wario didn’t do it. Wonderful 101 didn’t do it. Pikmin didn’t do it. And even New Super Mario 3D World, released right in the holidays, didn’t do it. Why should Mario Kart be any different? Or Smash Bros? Old School Like I have said many times, Mario Kart 8 will make or break 2014 for Nintendo and Wii U’s future. The second game to save Nintendo is Smash Bros but if Mario Kart is fail I don’t think Smash can save the Wii U from complete profit loss. It’s just too bad the people in charge of Mario Kart 8’s marketing is doing a pathetic fuc*%$ng job! Here’s Nintendo’s chance to show off one of its BEST games to existing MK fans and new people that haven’t played the game but of course not, let’s just not advertise the game. SHOW something new monthly like the guys are doing with Smash Bros, even if it’s little updates, anything is better then silence. As for the game, so far it looks great! Can’t say anything about battle mode (my favorite) because to Nintendo it’s not as important as VS *rolleyes* Get creative dam$@t! Add more characters to choose from, add more battle courses then the past games, add new items, add ways for us to customize our characters, add messaging in between races/battles, add a way for us to have at least 100 friends, add voice chat and the option to mute people! God, if I had the opportunity to market this game or give advice on some new features…… Old School Why do you think they are hiding the battle mode footage? Makes no sense to not show off a little bit mario luigi maybe if they added more to the wiiu it might have been a success maybe an hd gamepad could’ve helped or maybe cross play with 3ds games than can be played on the gamepad or tv would be another cool feature to have but wiiu is lacking in features for the console Tiago Santos I just want to say “shut the f up!” … i’m just tired… everybody thinks they are analysts… (if that was a good thing!) Luciano Yeah man,I’m f**ing tired of this discuss too! Grulnork You should stop visiting fansites like this then, as they are happy to post this kind of news. It generates a lot traffic = money. Brian Lockett Fan loyalty =! Much-needed success If some people analyze, it’s because the Wii U is a product seeking success. That’s what you do with products. You analyze how they could be successful, esp. when you want it to succeed and it’s clearly not. Nintendo could be doing much better with how they’re handling the Wii U. The Wii U isn’t suffering so much from the product itself as it is from Nintendo’s poor product promotion, slow rate of game development, and waiting too long to make a price cut. Softballumpire No people want wii u to be free… that the issue jake I’ve said it before and ill say it again……They need to make an exclusive nintendo RPG game that uses the gamepad to the max….. Cahone drop gamepad. Do a propropad only system + mariokart for 200 bucks, it will sell. C4 Or Smash. And sell GamePad as accessory with a game that sells GamePads, like Nintendo Land just better, more content and mainstream-appeal. 2 problems solved with one stone 🙂 Softballumpire why drop gamepad what is so fing bad about it? its a regular controller with damn buttons… it just as a screen you can either use buttons or the screen in some cases. sometimes both its not that difficult. Vakua Dorn hmmm… when the wii u was announced they would be selling the console at a loss (at $350), then they cut the price $50, and now people are screaming for it to be sold at about half of the sum of its parts? re-think your logic, retailers and analysts! D-Man More 3rd Party support, more advertisement, renaming, would help. David Horowitz Aren’t they getting tired of saying things like this? GABRIEL GARCIA WiiU daily bad news 🙁 Go to nintendoeverything.com there u can find really good news for wii u and nintendo in general, this place don’t really support nintendo. Old School No point in running away to another site and hiding from the truth. Facts are facts, you want them to sugarcoat it to make you feel better? GABRIEL GARCIA l prefer a strawberry icecream 😉 jeje common bro I’m not worried at all because I really now what nintendo has to offer and I also know that Sony is about to bankruptcy in a couple of years. That is what really makes me mad the fact that everybody talks shit about Nintendo no mentioning the bad performance of other companies. I want to see how U eat your words in three or four months. Brian Lockett General retailers: “Nintendo isn’t giving us much to sell.” General analysts: “Nintendo is doomed. They’ll probably go under as a company in time, too.” General game developers: “Nintendo is underpowered and thus isn’t relevant.” General Nintendo fans: “Nintendo is fine! Just give them more time!” General truth, more or less: Nintendo needs to amp up their effort all across the board, in terms of game development rate, promotional effort, and clearly projecting future plans instead of leaving people in the dark. Nintendo as a company isn’t “doomed.” With $10 billion in the bank, as well as a knack for snagging the handheld market, they’re in good financial shape as a standing company. Much more for themselves than debt-laden Sony has been with themselves in recent years, suffering from a series of heavily-invested failing products, such as PS Vita, 3D TVs and their underwhelming VAIO line. Nintendo’s Wii U isn’t in good shape, but it isn’t doomed quite yet, either. There is still time for the Wii U to see some turn-around, granted, if Nintendo supplies enough motive to keep public interest in the Wii U. This is going to mean a pronounced effort in increased game production, higher emphasis on “core” games (because casual gaming belongs largely to mobile devices now, and families won’t make the Wii U as successful as the Wii was, due to being sufficed with social and mobile gaming), and games that showcase the potential of the GamePad. Nintendo’s product is underpowered, but horsepower is sufficient is utilized efficiently, creatively, and with a high rate of production. Seven million gamers still enjoy World of Warcraft, which is a PC title with rather minimalistic “graphics”–engaging games still work. No one looks to the Wii U for graphics, but given enough solid titles, they would instead be looking at it for unique gameplay experiences. Though, while Nintendo still sits with this potential with the Wii U, it would naive to claim that everything’s fine. One shouldn’t count their own satisfaction with the Wii U as being the best interest for Wii U, financially or reputation-wise. The Wii U is not fine–it’s floating. It’s seen sales and sees some sales boosts periodically, but at their current inconsistent rate, the sales are just not enough. They couldn’t sustain the Wii U at this rate going into next year. Optimism from fans is nice, but often not objective reality. This year will probably be the last good chance for Nintendo to truly gain some momentum for the Wii U and prove their prowess to the industry about Wii U, as the $400 PS4 and entertainment hub Xbox One will have gained more momentum–perhaps enough to leave Wii U relevant to shopper’s attention. More or less, give or take, this is the general truth. Brian Lockett How you like mah’ formatting? Clean, ain’t it? 8) Arthur Jarret WTF is Xbite? Is it just a single store or a franchise? Why should I care about their opinion when I know X and Smash bros and a new Zelda are coming? Flintinator That’s just not true, Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros are going to be the system sellers, especially Smash bros. Everyone I know is excited for it and almost none of them have wii U. Some of them said they were going to buy one, even if it’s only for that game. Softballumpire Why does someone need something to be revoluntionary? it plays some decent games stop thinking that something specter going to happen and enjoy the damn games. MujuraNoKamen FFS we’ve been here before, I do kind of agree that Kart is it’s last real chance to turn things around (yes WWHD, M3DW etc have caused jumps in sales but not turned it around like we’d have hoped) but again with the “price is too high” BS. It’s much cheaper than the competitors and retailers have tried before to shift stock with heavy price-cuts but it won’t sell because no one knows what Wii U is (still) The real problem is advertising, Wii U’s last chance is if Nintendo can actually make an ad before PS4 & XBO really kick-off, it’s as simple as that. Quicksilver88 What I don’t get is Wii had hardly any multiplat 3rd party games. It got a few good versions of things like COD and Madden09 but it was carried by Nintendo and VC. WiiU already has some great 3rd party like BatmanAC, NFSMW, AC4, Legos, DeusEX, W101, Rayman, ZombieU, Injustice, COD, Sonic. So the system has gotten more in 14 months than Wii got in 6 years. Yet 2014 looks frightening with Watchdogs and not much else. Nintendo needs to step up big with new content every month. sd Although 5.5 million sales after 15 months isn’t really a failure. Sure its not a roaring success but its okay. Also for those stating they are kiddy games, have you played Mario 3d world, pikmin, w101 etc. They are great games. So far I am still having far more fun with my Wii U than I am with my Xbox one, but they all have their merits. GABRIEL GARCIA Muaaaa chunter Headline should be changed to some small, totally unknown retailer in the US thinks… who cares what some small unknown in the US retailer thinks? Nintendo will continue to do what it always does, hopefully; which is make great games. LarryOfPompeii I wouldn’t say that, but I’m looking forward to it regardless.
