Jun 6th, 2014

You guys have been waiting for this one for a while and I apologize for that. We’ve been super busy with our preparations for E3, but we’re finally ready to announce the winner of the Mario Kart 8 contest. We had 2.1k entries this time, which is about average with the previous two weeks we ran the contest.

You guys were dedicated, but the winner this week is Daizha Fergus, breaking the Sean streak for the previous two weeks. For those of you who changed your name to Sean in the comments, looks like it didn’t help you this time. Whoops! Congrats go to Daizha Fergus and to Sean Corcoran and Sean from Canada (he didn’t give us a last name), as they’re the winners for our Mario Kart 8 contest.

Wait, what about the last week, there were supposed to be four! Our event planning got a little out of hand, so we’re having to call it at three weeks instead of four, but don’t worry. Once we’re back from E3 with all our coverage I’m sure there will be another opportunity to win a game from Wii U Daily, so stay tuned!

    Well, I feel cheated.

  • HorizonChaser

Hmm, time to unfollow WiiUDaily now.

  • HorizonChaser

Oh, wait, that fourth contest…it’s on June 36th. Silly me, all is forgiven then.

    • Jon

      I didn’t know June had 36 days.

      • HorizonChaser

Ashley just changed the Shovel Knight story. Originally the headline had a typo for the release date being June 36.

  • bistricky

Thank you Ashley and gang for bringing these contests for free games to us, while we rip you for typos etc …… you bring great articles to your readers and happy that I discovered this website about 5 months ago ….. keep up the good work. Cheers 😀

  • You spelled my name wrong.

    • HorizonChaser

You spelled your name wrong, Sean.

  • Roto

CONGRATZ!! I will get you next time!

  • Ducked

Congratulations to all three winners! May Mario Kart 8 keep you busy until Smash Bros is out.

    • Officer Raichu

dont forget the free game unless ashley already did it XD

      • Ducked

Haha. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned in the article now that you mention that.

    • Arthur Jarret

I’m actually more anxious to play Bayonetta 2 and X that are coming out this year than Smash bros. The overkill of info about the game kinda killed my hype

      • Ducked

I’m honestly not a huge Smash Bros fan. I know everyone else is. But I agree with you, I’m looking forward to X and Bayonetta 2 more than Smash. X is easily one of my top 3 most anticipated games right now. I just hope they give the game a name and release date at E3.

        • Usaamah

X and Smash are my most anticipated games. I couldn’t care less about Bayonetta. I’m looking forward to SMT X FE as well. Interested to see how Yoshi will turn out (loved Yoshi’s Island).

  • Arthur Jarret

Ah well, back to being Arthur, I guess.

    • jjbredesen

Same here….or should we change are name to Daizai xD

      • Arthur Jarret

You’re back to being Arthur, too?

        • jjbredesen

Ups, worded that a bit wrong xD, just talking about removing my “sean” thing in my name xD

  • Marioman21

I am happy to have been a reader here for the last 2 1/2 years

    • nintendope

I’ve been a reader ever since I got my Wii U back at launch, we’ve been through a lot of ups and downs, and i’m happy to see this community grow and come together, many will come from MK8 and Smash Bros, but hopefully the feeling will remain the same.

      • Marioman21

Boy is that the truth from me too.

  • Congrats once more to all 3(6) winners! Enjoy your MarioKart 8.

  • “Sean” jjbredesen

But, but i changed my name! Oh well congrats Daizha! and thanks for yet a great contest WUD 😀

    • nintendope

But.. But.. I thought you were Link..

      • Arthur Jarret

He’s wearing the Mask of V – a freedom fighter from the Termina region

        • jjbredesen

Although V uses it in the movie, it is actually called the Guy Fawkes mask, and represents that you are against the corruption of the world, and that we are for Freedom of thought, of speech, of expression, of knowledge etc.

          -We are legion

But yes i am from termina xd

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Wii u sold 187,000 in vg chartz. It’s sales available right now, awesome. It beat Xbox One Watch Dogs. Wow go Nintendo.

    • Zuxs13

yeah i saw that it wasn’t too far behind the pS4 though why people are still buying the PS4 right now boggles me, but the Wii U still more than doubled the XB1 even beat out the 3DS.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

Yeah the PS4 sells good. Why sells good, when no games are their. Sony lied in e3 and said 1000 games coming out first year not even forty came out. All delayed.

        • Actually they said 100 games were coming out in the first year.
Many of which are likely indie games.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Nope 1000 games on developement in first year. Lol they never hit forty. Look I own PS4 just bought it a coup days ago. Awesome system.

          • Are you sure?
That’s 4x the size of the N64’s library.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Anyways who cares man. Other websites protects Sony so does their fan. When Nintendo frayed their games many went mad. I agree Sony plans were smarter but heck I don’t think it worth the hype. Really PS4 is not that impressive I have yet to see its amazing games.

      • “Wii U still more than doubled the XB1”

        181k v.s 52k
Tripled would be a more appropriate term.
Although the Xbone isn’t doing too great.

    • Cena’s Smirk

VG chartz also has the 1.12 million Mariokart games sold that Nintendo released a statement on. I didn’t think that VGchartz reconized downloads from the E shop. so could there be a higher games sold if the didn’t count downloads?

      • Yousif Alromaithi

I have no idea how much it sold totally even with download. But those are numbers we got.

    • That’s not really a fair comparison though.
Those are the sales for the week ending on the 31st of may.

You are comparing how many copies Watchdogs sold in 5 days
with how many copies Mario Kart 8 sold in 2-3 days.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

I am not comparing lol. What the hell you saying don’t bring Watch Dogs as if I brought it on my argument.

        • You said it beat the Xbone version of watchdogs, in terms of sales. You are comparing MK8 sales to watchdogs sales on the Xbone.

An argument is simple a set of reasons to support an idea.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Oh yeah it did beat Watch Dogs XbOne but never beats PS4 Watch Dogs. Lol.

  • anthony optimo

    See you on the track!

  • Zuxs13

    Congrats to the winners

  • Cena’s Smirk

question: I’m waiting for the club Nintendo points to reset on july 1 before I register Mariokart 8. I’m just wondering if you get points for the free game download.

    • Decker Shado

Hm.. not sure. When I get the club nintendo game rewards, I get coins for the post-play surveys, but not for the “purchase.”

      • Nintendofreak

you get 60 coins forgame registration then 10 for post play survey only applies to wiiu games 3ds gives you like 40 or 50 when you register then the survey bonus 10

  • Rinslowe

    Congrats to the winner!

  • gamingpalooza

i bought my mario kart from Best Buy today… got it for $49 (including tax)

  • RyuNoHadouken

yay! Now, get online and get dusted!!!! LOL

  • DK745

aww I was hoping to have another Sean win.

Congrats to the other 2 winners!

  • Santiago

Ok, this is the best place to ask this I guess… Can someone please thoroughly explain how the online mode of MarioKart 8 works? I have some very hard time joining friends games or communicating or even joining worldwide rooms
Maybe an article that someone can share?
