In a recent round table interview with the Mario Kart 8 developers, producer Hideki Konno had high praise for the Wii U when speaking of its ability to deliver crystal clear HD graphics. Konno was quick to emphasize that compared to Mario Kart Wii, which was released about six years ago, this is the team’s best looking game yet. “We’re working with HD for the first time, and we really wanted to take advantage of that. We put a lot of effort into making this a good looking game–it’s a very pretty game.” According to the developers, the team was able to create a Mario Kart game that has graphical fidelity unlike anything we’ve seen before, without the drop in frame rate that players may have experienced when playing Mario Kart Wii with the local multi-player split-screen option. “This time with the power of the Wii U we really made an effort to keep that graphic quality high regardless of how many ways we were splitting the TV into.” In terms of graphical fidelity, the team elaborated stating that they were able to produce minor details that bring the experience together like never before. Different parts of the kart move, dirt stays on the tires, and skidmarks are left on the course through entire races. “Using the power of the Wii U, we were able to create a Mario Kart title that feels right, and the controls feel like they’re perfect for this game.” Mario Kart 8 launches on May 30 worldwide. local_offer mario kart 8 Nintendo wii u stars Further Reading Legendary Pokemon coming to Pokemon Go The cost of Nintendo consoles in today's dollars Wii U gets firmware update Watch the Smash 4 EVO Finals on Disney XD Take a peek at this week’s Nintendo Dow 9 things you probably didn't know about Super Mario Bros. Ryan F This game will make a bunch of WiiU haters and antagonists have to STFU or risk looking horribly silly 😀 CharlesAnderson Not really, unless they have it on their console of choice they aren’t going to be happy. Some people want to see others fail, especially if they’ve “invested” in an alternative. metalpants What… the heck did you just say? Was that supposed to make sense?? “Not really, unless they have it on their console of choice” Have what on their console of choice…? Mario Kart 8?! There’s only ONE console of choice for that title and that would be Wii U in case you don’t know how Nintendo franchises work… Gameonfool He is just saying that for some if it is not on their console of choice that they buy they will say its shit. Some people are like that and yeah it doesn’t make sense, some people are just stupid. They are hatters, that’s what he explained. He wasn’t saying he was like that. Daniel Gonzalez Calling them haters back only turns you into one. People hate many different things for different reasons. At this point, it should be obvious to ignore it and not add to the problem. JB Technically, he said they were “hatters” and to be honest, I don’t mind hatters at all, if they look good, because I love a good hat. (Yes I know, lame joke) Daniel Gonzalez Haha. Okay, you got me there. Gameonfool like you never create problems. I was saying that ryan f was saying something about haters. i didnt call anyone a hater just stupid if you read it. Any way hater i can have what opinion i want. Daniel Gonzalez Who stopped you from having an opinion? Also, I addressed many times that we’re all guilty somewhere down the line. Now I addressed it to you. If you want to call me a hater for that, be my guest. That works both ways. ;P Gameonfool your like one of those women that causes drama then turns themself into a victim, fool. Im not a hater but i hate shit and right now your a big pile of it. Daniel Gonzalez “your like one of those women that causes drama then turns themself into a victim, fool.” Considering you’re the one who is having a hard time keeping a discussion on a civil note, you are certainly wearing the apron here. So much for the victim excuse eh? “Im not a hater but i hate shit and right now your a big pile of it.” By foolishly insulting people, you only reflect your comments right back. Nice backfire, though. It was a good try. ;P edit: Btw, it’s “you’re” Gameonfool man shut up lol i’m no saint, the only apron i’m wearing right now is with a picture of my middle finger to you. And yah i know how spell it but cant be fucked, im not in english class. And stop trying to be clever with your backfire bull you look dumb. Daniel Gonzalez “Man, shut up. I’m no saint. The only apron I’m wearing right now, is with a picture of my middle finger to you. Yeah, I know how to spell, but can’t be fucked. I’m not in English class, and stop trying to be clever with your backfire bull. You look dumb.” Since you can’t be “fucked,”(no comment there) I decided to be a good guy and help you out. It’s free of charge. I don’t have to be clever, it’s clear that you’re upset if simple comments get to you. Try smiling. ;P Gameonfool I’ve been smiling all along lol, my brains like a hand grenade but the pins not pulled I’m not angry at the comments you made, as you only want to give advice maybe it time to be polite and your not feelin the heat I guess it’s time to make peace 🙂 Daniel Gonzalez No heat here. It’s only 48 degrees out. I’m only polite as long as those I’m talking to show the same. Not sure I believe you weren’t mad, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. If there’s no hostility, then we can have peace. “Edit thanks for the therapy doc.” No problem. The doc is always here to give proper guidance. 🙂 rp17 He was saying PS4 and Xbone fanboys will always complain until Nintendo puts MK8 on their systems. This of course will never happen and these fanboys will whine and complain for all eternity. Daniel Gonzalez Fanboys from all sides complain one way or another. That will never change. I won’t say which fanboys are worse, because realistically, they all are. rp17 True, Nintendo has it’s annoying fanboys that complain about random stuff as well. But I was just addressing how PS and M$ fanboys have/will always say Nintendo should go 3rd party. Magnus Eriksson Of course it will happen. Nintendo will announce that theyll go 3rd party this e3 Ryan F so it shall be, they will look silly then. thedeciderU my plastic is better than your plastic. ugghhh all systems have great games. Daniel Gonzalez That comment already made you look horribly silly. The game looks good, yes, but it doesn’t mean people aren’t entitled to their own opinions. An opinion is never wrong, but expecting people to “STFU” and just expect them to be silenced is comical. You come off as fanboyish. Not every gamer in the world is going to love Mario Kart 8. Just as not everyone will love GTA for example. Hate is inevitable. Calling them haters basically turns you into one as well. You become part of the problem. Claiming to be a developer, this should come naturally to you. ;P ThisGuy18 God forbid you find a nintendo fan acting “fan boyish” on a wiiu site xD dammit Gonzalez why can’t we all just be like you? >.< there's ALWAYS gonna be haters dude just because you call somebody out on it isn't gonna change jack squat. And if people are entitled to their own opinions, then let him have his 😛 Daniel Gonzalez Calling me out on it isn’t going to change what I said. I’m well aware there are always going to be haters. Just as he has his own opinion, so do I. I do believe I’m well within my rights, to add my own take on things. I wouldn’t stop you either, I’d welcome it. I wouldn’t want you to be like me, as only I can do that to a T. We are all unique for a reason. Ryan F The game undeniably looks good. When this game comes out, people saying the WiiU doesn’t have good games or is terribly underpowered won’t have a leg to stand on. That’s just how good the game looks :). BTW I’m just a plain ole software developer, not a game dev Daniel Gonzalez Hate is nothing new, that happens with any game release, especially with non-Nintendo products. Do you really expect there to be no bashing at all? It doesn’t make all of them silly, not everyone will see it as gorgeous game. Yes, there are people who hate just to irritate fans. I can agree to that. ;P Ryan F I expect bashing for sure. But a game like this running on 1080p 60 fps — it’s going to be very hard to find angle to bash it without looking … well, pathetic Fans who play the game shouldn’t be to irritated. They will know they’re playing a true next-gen game. When the trolls come, I think we’ll have a pretty good laugh of it. Daniel Gonzalez Shouldn’t, but do. Lol. It depends on which people you feel are pathetic. It’s not really hard to find something they may not like of a game. Don’t be silly. Every game has some flaws. A perfect game is merely a distant dream. It’s good that you aren’t upset at trolls, and people should follow that, but that would be expecting too much from the internet. Though, that’s a fact in real life too. jrob23 Yep. And people who don’t own a Wii U and never will will claim it isn’t as good as some previous Kart title. You know, because they have to support their narrative. Of course, they will have said all along they would get a Wii U once Kart comes out. But we all know they never planned to. It’s just to give appearances that they are on a Wii U site for any reason but to troll. But I am not sure why when Nintendo comes out with great games the need to point out what the PS4 or Xbone has. Is it because we are conditioned to be defensive due to the attacks? Why can’t we just be happy with the great games and let others be haters and troll in peace? Daniel Gonzalez There are those who enjoy attacking, and there are those who genuinely have a different opinion on Nintendo. Would you call someone a hater if they said” I’m sure it’s a good game, but I’m not interested in it” or “Not a day one buy for me, but will get it later on”? “But I am not sure why when Nintendo comes out with great games the need to point out what the PS4 or Xbone has.” Well, I’d say that it has something to do with Nintendo fans doing the exact same thing. I won’t bother to go into who is worse, it’s the point that everyone is guilty of it one way or another. So, when you have all fronts doing the exact things, it’s impossible to have peace. Though, when dealing with the internet, looking for peace is like looking for a needle in a haystack. “Is it because we are conditioned to be defensive due to the attacks?” I believe that everyone is conditioned to react one way or another to a comment. Though, an attack depends on your point of view. I will say this jrob, you are guilty of this very thing. Especially when you attack posters directly causing the very thing you accuse others of(I’m sure you know what I mean). Let’s be honest here, as much as you may not like people like myself, you aren’t much better in comparison. Take that as you like. To put it fairly. we’re all guilty. ;P jrob23 I would love it if you and the other trolls would just say that Wii U is not your thing, that the games look okay but you wouldn’t know because you haven’t played it and never will. But you don’t. As far as PS sites. What are these sites? I ask because I just I am currently playing my recently purchased PS3 and would like to go on forums. I can see why you would say we are equal in comparison. But I have to disagree. The difference is I am a former and most likely future owner of the Wii U and as a fan of the system and its games I can provide insight and an opinion based on experience. So my presence here, on a Wii U site, makes sense. If I actually ever saw you being positive towards the Wii U and it’s games then it would make sense why you’d be on a Wii U site. But you don’t seem to be interested in doing anything but admonishing others for attacking your trolling. You don’t seem interested in buying a Wii U but you feel entitled to be respected for your opinion and views despite your lack of fandom. Almost every time a negative story comes out about the Wii U, you and your fellow trolls add fuel to the fire. Whenever there is a positive story, you aren’t quite as present, but if it is at all possible, you will spin it to a negative, or caution people’s optimism. I think you are conflicted. You weren’t always this bad. It has only gotten worse as the vocal trolls have seemed to influence you. Also, the better the prospects for the Wii U i.e. stronger sales, good game releases, positive articles, competitors not doing so well (Xbone)..the stronger your dissent. Like I said, I would like to go on a PS site and see how you treat a system you actually are a fan of. I think you can be very articulate and have some good points when you want to. So I am sure I would have a better back and forth if we were on there. Daniel Gonzalez “I can see why you would say we are equal in comparison. But I have to disagree. The difference is I am a former and most likely future owner of the Wii U and as a fan of the system and its games I can provide insight and an opinion based on experience. So my presence here, on a Wii U site, makes sense. If I actually ever saw you being positive towards the Wii U and it’s games then it would make sense why you’d be on a Wii U site.” The comparisons had to due with maturity level, not experiences. Also, since when do people have to be positive to comment on a Wii U or any site for that matter? Lol. So you’re saying that I should be positive because it’s a Wii U site? Sorry bro, life doesn’t work that way. If you think so, then you may wanna come back to reality. More importantly, I never talked from experience, I comment based on the news. I thought I made that clear long ago, but perhaps not clear enough. “Almost every time a negative story comes out about the Wii U, you and your fellow trolls add fuel to the fire. Whenever there is a positive story, you aren’t quite as present, but if it is at all possible, you will spin it to a negative, or caution people’s optimism.” I’m present on just about every article, positive or negative. very rare do I miss one. If I do, it’s probably minor news that doesn’t relate to me such as Miiverse updates or forum stuff. You’d think that people like yourself would learn to ignore trolling instead of responding rashly. If I can deal with that in a PS site, so can Nintendo fans. “I think you are conflicted. You weren’t always this bad. It has only gotten worse as the vocal trolls have seemed to influence you. Also, the better the prospects for the Wii U i.e. stronger sales, good game releases, positive articles, competitors not doing so well (Xbone)..the stronger your dissent.” I’ve always been the way I am. There’s times when I’m mellow and have pretty good discussions and there’s times where I enjoy screwing around despite the dismay of others. You call it dissent, I call it a realistic approach. To each their own there. ;P “Like I said, I would like to go on a PS site and see how you treat a system you actually are a fan of. I think you can be very articulate and have some good points when you want to. So I am sure I would have a better back and forth if we were on there.” Thanks for the kind words, though we can certainly have a back and fourth on here as well. Don’t take everything I say personally. Just because I’m not the biggest fan of the Wii U, doesn’t mean I’ll never have it in my household. I gave my former to my cousin and I don’t regret that. He’s enjoying it and that’s good enough for me. As long as insults are left out of posts, then we’d get along much better. jrob23 “I’ve always been the way I am. There’s times when I’m mellow and have pretty good discussions and there’s times where I enjoy screwing around despite the dismay of others. You call it dissent, I call it a realistic approach. To each their own there. ;P” Thank you for finally admitting you are a troll. At least that pretense has been exposed. That has always been my problem with you. You have hid your true intentions with claims of being a fan in some capacity to justify coming onto a Wii U site. Now that it’s official I won’t feel the need to point out your contradictions and argue with you about the reason you are on here. We should be fine going forward. Daniel Gonzalez You’re entitled to believe what conclusion you came to. Certainly no skin off my back. Now that all of this is out of the way, problems should be minimal. 😛 InterTreble As they already do now, whenever they speak about games, great games, possibly exclusive ones. Wii U has 4-5 exclusive titles with an average of 90+ on metacritics, just to make an example. PS4 and XONE has poor/more-of-the-same games, no exclusive (99% of their games have an old gen version, too) and only a lot of marketing. PS4 and Microsoft may be great because they can sell empty 400$-500$ pieces of furniture, if but I’m a player, and I’d rather have fun! 😉 TULFich No, this game will destroy everybodys friendships XD Bob Wilkerson Mario Kart has always been great for making friendships and breaking them just as fast. Magnus Eriksson Nope it wont. Nothing can stop the truth. Bob Wilkerson Very good looking game. Nice use of colors and design. This is going to be a game that will consume my gaming time for quite a long time. metalpants I’m pretty sure 60% of my time with the game won’t be spent racing with those graphics… Ultrasyd Yes it looks good, but still ugly compared to what we’ll have on Wii U in a few years I hope 😀 Concerning skidmarks : really ? From the trailer, I had the feeling that the karts are more slipping than driving. Sometimes you see half of the tires in the sand, but yet no skimarks left, I thought it was a bit strange. Minor detail anyway. metalpants What is wrong with people here?!? O_o “Yes it looks good, but still ugly compared to what we’ll have on Wii U in a few years” Maybe you have eye issues but I’m pretty sure there’s NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, Wii games, etc. that STILL look gorgeous regardless of age. If you think this game will be “ugly” in a couple of years, then man, something must really distort your sense of aesthetics in the future. Wren Justin Umlauf Hes not saying the game will actually be ugly. Hes just talking about about the vast improvements that come with more and more experience on the hardware. Look at Halo 3, that is a beautiful game. Then look at Halo 4, even more beautiful, so beautiful that it makes Halo 3 look ugly, but is it ugly? No jrob23 I think a better example is Uncharted 1 versus 3. Massive difference in graphics. I didn’t see that jump from Halo 3 to 4. Maybe from Combat evolved to 4 yes Wren Justin Umlauf I havnt played the Uncharted games but Im sure your right. Ultrasyd Man, it’s just a way to say that there is plenty of room left for improvment, this is a early game. And if we can really say “damn, MK8 was UGLY”, then this is very good news in my opinion : ) sharlo galmo Afcoruse it will be better, they make this game with early devkits, remember november 2012 Nintendo finish there final devkits… Ducked I like the more fantasy tracks, instead of racing in towns and cities. Feels less Mario Kart’ish. Dark-Link73 I’m going to be devil’s advocate here but, what do people really expect from an internal Nintendo developing team? Do people really think they (Nin. Dev. Team) is going to come out on record and state that the Wii U is “underpowered”, or that is hard to write for, or that the Gamepad is a waste of time and resources, or any other form or negative impressions of the system? Of course not! Don’t get me wrong, I love Nintendo and I can’t wait for Mario Kart to come out. But positive quotes like this are as bias as negative quotes from EA to Nintendo after the Origin server deal fail. They’re just self-serving. rp17 While these statements are, in a way, self-serving, these quotes are much more reliable as they come from someone making a great game by taking advantage of the Wii U, opposed to someone who refuses to do either. Daniel Gonzalez Basically, it’s a double-edged sword. Dark-Link73 Nicely put. RyuNoHadouken Nintendo completely failed with this system…they know it, but they will never admit it…publically Guest Why do YOU think they failed? Guest Define “fail”. David Horowitz I don’t think it failed, I just think that it has a slow start. A year after the Wii U was released, and it still seems like it’s just starting. If Nintendo failed as much as people say they did, they’d have gone out of business a LONG time ago. But you know what? It’s Nintendo. If America casts it aside, then Japan will keep it on life support. David Horowitz I’ve never met a person who owns a Wii U, and doesn’t like it. Nintendo won’t admit that it failed, and neither will it’s fans. Not because of pity, but because we know it. If you think the Wii U is fun and kinda cool, then it didn’t fail. RyuNoHadouken Touche…i do enjoy it, but it couldve been so much more Flintinator Nintendo won’t go out of business. They can go on for about 50 years making the same amount of loss as last year, until they would go broke. A lot of people don’t know that. That’s why many playstation- and xbox fanboys say that the Wii U is going to be the end of Nintendo. They couldn’t be more wrong. Guesty Pooh! If a failure is a console with highly rated games, a unique control system that is yet to be fully realized, free online system with NO subscription fees, great indie titles ( with plenty more on their way), Miiverse, backwards compatibility, off screen play that requires no extra outlay and a system I can play with my entire family, then yes, it’s an epic fail! One that I’m having a hell of a lot of fun with, I’ll gladly fail everyday. I think I’m failing in love! Theiz Zzee They failed with it not because of the capabilities, but because of lack of effort between them and third parties. val berger not really. wouldn’t say completely. As long as they are able to create quality content for it, they haven’t failed at all. they really messed up in many factors, more than ever before. But playing a game lile Super Mario 3D World and now looking how promising MK8 looks like definitely doesn’t look like a ‘complete’ fail. I’m usually in for critique but I wouldn’t overdo it. Dark-Link73 “Completely failed…”!?!? I think you’ve been under a rock for almost 30 years. We’re in 2014, not 1995. The Virtual Boy is long gone. You need to move on, lol. The Wii U is FAR from being a “complete failure”. If anything Nintendo is ahead of the curve and truly thinks of the consumer first before themselves. Which console offers backwards compatibility? Which console offers free online? Which console offers true innovative gameplay? Which console is affordable? Which console allows you to transfer your prior generation digital purchases? Which console gives the consumer the flexibility to expand their storage up to 4TB in a simple plug-and-play manner, if at all? Once you’ve figured the answers to all of these questions, you can come back and tell me who’s the real “failure” this gen so far. RyuNoHadouken denial…but ill amuse you…only crybabies care about BC…i dont buy NEW systems to play OLD games…that free online comes at a cost of NO FREE GAMES every month and an inferior online infrastructure. Innovation is subjective…all consoles have second screen capabilities if thats what you’re talking about. the Wii U is the least affordable when you consider price/performance. It shouldnt be higher than $199 for a deluxe system with 2 games bundled(an HD4000 series gpu is about $40 online, ive seen em as low as $10 with a rebate). Once again, prior gen digital is OLD games on a NEW system. Xbone has an external HDD update coming this month..PS4 will accept a 10TB HDD as long as it fits. PC obliterates all consoles, so there’s no point in going there….Your turn 🙂 David Horowitz Guys, guys, I didn’t intend for us to attack eachother! Xbox One and PS4 are obviously in the lead in terms of hardware. But what else is new? My initial point was that Nintendo didn’t FAIL with the Wii U. It just had a really bad and slow start in terms of games. It’ll get better. With Nintendo, hardware has never been an issue. Shane Michaels … RyuNoHadouken .. Dark-Link73 Why, thank you! Shane Michaels Certainly. Dark-Link73 *yawn* More bored than “amused”. You lost me at “denial”. Only crybabies bother to make the argument that PC “obliterates all consoles” because comparing consoles to PC is like comparing the latest Corvette vs. the latest Bugatti(apples to oranges buddy)…. The main reason a person has for buying a console IS subjective… “that free online comes at a cost of NO FREE GAMES every month and an inferior online infrastructure.” So by that argument you’re saying that PC gaming is inferior also for NOT HAVING FREE GAMES every month and for being free?… Innovation IS NOT “subjective”, it is actually an ADJECTIVE, and it means “THE INTRODUCTION OF SOMETHING NEW”; the other two consoles DID NOT INCLUDE SECOND SCREEN CAPABILITIES until AFTER Nintendo unveiled the Wii U, HENCE INNOVATION. The Wii U IS the most affordable considering PRICE ($300 vs. $400 and $500), performance, AND by the time you buy all the accessories on PS4 to have the FULL experience you end up with a price tag of about $1,600 vs. the Wii U is about $700…. Once again, playing “old” games on a new console is practiced by 99% of gamers out there, otherwise we wouldn’t have services such as eShop (Wii U), PSN+ (PS4), LIVE (X1) and Steam (for your almighty PC!); so the fact that you don’t like it is completely IRRELEVANT and invalid as an argument… X1 will have an external HDD coming this month ONLY because all the crybabies who, well, were crying about it! As for PS4 I don’t know where you got your overinflated “10TB HDD” capacity because Sony HAS NOT issued any official maximum capacity HDD replacement. So far the average people have put in it is about 1 TB and the most I’ve seen people claim is 3TB. Nobody dares to try higher probably because they don’t want to get stuck with a expensive HDD that the PS4 won’t recognize yet. and stores won’t take them as returns once open, unless it is defective… AND “PC obliterates all consoles, so there’s no point going there…” BUT you went there anyway by talking about the HD4000 series GPU in the context of console performance. Thus, you are making parts of your own argument INVALID/VOID/IRRELEVANT… NOW I’m amused!! RyuNoHadouken you’re so full of rage…lol…but, im clearly not a fanboy…I own all systems…i will admit though, my PC master rig is in a room all by itself 🙂 Shane Michaels Kinda messy looking… I still want them all. RyuNoHadouken my cable management sucks Dark-Link73 “you’re so full of rage…” lol. I find it rather interesting that you identify my post as being “full of rage” after my last response which, if you look at it closely, it is purposely presented in the same format used by you. Based on that I can say that you engaged in something called “Psychological Projection”. Psychological Projection, according to Freud, is an “act or technique of defending yourself against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in yourself, while attributing them to others.” While technically you haven’t “denied” being “full of rage”, perhaps on account that nobody has claimed you’re full of rage, it is obvious that subconsciously you are transferring some of inner feelings that get triggered when certain patterns of behavior, embedded in your subconscious, are recognized by outer stimuli. In layman’s terms: ” it takes one, to know another.” Psychology aside, I’m not a PC gaming buff as you seem to be so I’m sorry that I’m not fully qualified to appreciate the “pure awesomeness” of your PC rig. The extent of my PC gaming habits only go as far as RTS games. I love Starcraft, Command & Conquer (Generals mainly), and The Lord of the Rings (the first one). Other than that, I’m a console gamer first. 🙂 RyuNoHadouken you need a woman in your life…but yeah, RTS games are fun…I just dont have the time to commit to them anymore Dark-Link73 “you need a woman in your life…” And you claim I AM the one that is “FULL OF RAGE”!?!? LMAO!!! (thank you for proving my point on your “projection” issues) I can tell by your last two posts, in which you put heavy emphasis on personal attacks, that you are insistently trying to divert attention from our original debate, perhaps in an attempt to avoid “admitting publicly” that you have “completely failed” in your line of argument (does that terminology sound familiar to you? 😉 he, he). As such I’ll take your last two, and any future comment that has nothing to do with our debate at hand, as your “concession speech”. Have a nice day! 😀 RyuNoHadouken insert Futurama Fry meme Kevin Sepulveda No they did not fail. You see the only reason they made this system was because gamers keep saying they want innovation even though that is a complete lie. The Wii U regardless will make them enough money to keep them up float in its life time. T-X Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t. Dark-Link73 That is why I write at the end that this “positive quote… is as bias as negative quotes from EA…” Unfortunately they are both bias quotes with an agenda behind them. Which in turn makes them both unreliable. Hence Daniel Gonzalez’s comment of being a “double-edged sword”. Perhaps if the game’s producer had worded different the second quote about the “… power of the Wii U…” it would not had come across as self-serving. The issue of the Wii U’s power has been under debate and under attack so many times and for so long that, at least to me, by now it’s just like beating on the dead horse. I want to experience what the Wii U is capable of doing, not told. rp17 I know, but agendas aside, wouldn’t you trust someone that actually works with the Wii U more than someone who avoids it? It’s like going to the doctor. The doctor wants your money, but you still trust his expertise more than a random stranger. A little skepticism is always good, I just meant that an expert should be theoretically more trustworthy. But it all comes down to experiencing it yourself. Dark-Link73 Most definitely agree. That guy who hates Spike But that’s the thing! They are only taking advantage of Wii U. They have no dev kit for the PS4 and Xbox One. For all we know, a Mario Kart game on those systems could be absolutely massive, or just a small improvement. Mwgly They still backup their statement with great looking trailers. It doesnt matter if they are first or thirdparty. nintendoes, what ea and shitdevs doesnt. its that simple. Dark-Link73 That they do. But for every developer that has “backed up their statements with great looking trailers”, I can give more whose “great looking trailers” ended up in disappointment for a lot of people. Look at Battlefield 4, awesome looking game with a great promise of innovative gameplay; total bust. Look at Red Steel, another great looking title (at the time) but ended up having terrible IR mechanics (granted, those were the baby steps of the wiimote). Look at Skirym, another great looking titled FILLED with bugs that make the game laughable at best. Look at Assassin’s Creed III, yet another gorgeous game of that time plagued with bugs and, considered by many, boring story (I really like AC3 btw). The list can go on and on. I don’t doubt Mario Kart 8 will be a great game. Hell! I’ve been a big MK fan since Double Dash!! (on the N64 I feel DKR is better) I know Nintendo can make Wii U games better than anyone else, after all is their console. I just don’t feel that we need to be told time and time again, by Nintendo, how “powerful” the Wii U is, specially since Nintendo still hasn’t released official specs yet (that I know) after 16 months of release. Remember, I’m just being devil’s advocate (and objective) for I am a big Nintendo fan. I said this before and I’ll say it again: the day Nintendo stops making consoles, the day I stop buying new games. Mwgly sure, dont get me wrong. I myself see me as a total nintendo fanboy, though i think specialy fanboys should be able to give their company of choice lots of critic. i was just stating that the wiiu gets more and more good looking games. i just latetly played super mario bros. u, after playing dktf, and daaayum! this super mario looks like shit, compared to dktf and mario 3d worlds. and i think the mk8 will give the wiiu another leap into this overly hyped “next gen” (which of course is current by now). and since super mario bros u was from nintendo, i think their statement is legit. it is indeed a powerfull console, and even nintendos own developer need to get deeper to truly see how powerful it realy is. Dark-Link73 That’s right. Nintendo has really untapped the potential and power of the Wii U in just one year. I can’t wait to see what the first, specifically made, Zelda game for Wii U is going to look like. On the same token though, we need to wait until this upcoming Christmas season to see the full potential PS4 and X1 untapped and see if they are truly “leaps and bounds” over the U or just hot air. 😉 Daniel Gonzalez You will see a leap in power from all tree as the generation goes. Of course, there have been consoles in the past that had untapped potential, but died off too early. Dreamcast or even Atari Jaguar to name a few. Dark-Link73 (sigh) Ah the Dreamcast! The only non-Nintendo console I purposely bought for myself (my 360 was free with the purchase of my PC and our other 360 [yes, we have two] is technically my kids). I miss you Dreamcast! Daniel Gonzalez Yep. Was a great system. I’d rather have Sega than Microsoft any day. thedeciderU a round of dynamite cop? any takers? love that game! Mercurio2054 hell yea Flintinator You won’t see any huge leaps in graphics on X1 and PS4, because they’re both basically x86 pcs with their own OS. Devs already know how to develop games these systems. The Wii U is the only console with some untapped power left. Of course, new engines and software will be released to increase the perfomance on all consoles and pc, but the real potential of a system is decided by the hardware. Magnus Eriksson Agree, the game looks like shit. Nintendo thought they could fuck us yet again. But no sir, those days are gone. Dark-Link73 Did you “vote up” your own post? Otherwise I don’t see anyone in their right mind voting up any of your trolling posts. Dark Lord Sauron hes just being sarcastic Commander Raichu he was praising mario kart 8 last article so yeah hes being sarcastic jrob23 just watch his posts going forward. You’ll see a pattern. There are names that consistently pop up. Though, I have a feeling they also don’t log in on purpose and upvote as a guest to attempt to hide their troll like ways. Magnus Eriksson I think its one of the best looking games I have ever seen on all consoles. Nintendo do have some amazing people in their staff. Dark-Link73 Yes. Nintendo has created such an amazing looking game, perhaps the best looking console game yet, I can’t wait to see what they do for The Legend of Zelda. I can’t wait for e3! oontz Are you implying MK8 looks like shit? Do you have eyeballs connected to your brain? Easily the best looking wiiu game I have seen yet. Daniel Gonzalez He was being sarcastic. Expect that from Magnus. chronic128 When you see magnus comment, think of batzarro or bizarro. Shane Michaels Why else would it be called Mario Kart 8? Because 8 is the only number that sorta looks like solid fecal matter. Only one. SORTA. DragonSilths Retro was kinda against the Gamepad with DKCTF not doing anything. Dark-Link73 I don’t believe that they were “against it” per say. In my opinion, if you look at the classic gameplay mechanics of the game, I don’t think there was anything meaningful and practical Retro could’ve done with the Gamepad to enhance the game beyond off TV play. So as power saving measure, I think turning off the screen was the smart thing to do. DragonSilths It would have been nice to have the screen show how many puzzle pieces you had and Kong letters instead of having to pause the game to see it. I seem to recall that’s why Nintendo made the gamepad…so gameplay wouldn’t get paused. Dark-Link73 Well, every time one gets a puzzle piece, or any item for that matter, one is shown a counter onscreen how many one has so far. So it’s not like one is completely oblivious as to how many pieces one has collected. Personally, this game is so fast paced and frantic, that I don’t mind having the HUD onscreen as suppose to the Gamepad. In DKC looking away from screen, even for a fraction of a second, can mean the difference between life and dead. DragonSilths I took my time, wasn’t to fast paced for me. thedeciderU which is why, perhaps, they should’ve focused on developing a wiiu game that fully utilized the gamepad and showed off its benefits before making dkctf. though, i’m sure they didn’t choose the ip. Dark-Link73 You are right about Retro not having a choice. Since they are a first-party programmer for Nintendo (Nintendo is majority share holder so they own Retro), Retro dances at Nintendo’s drum beat. I don’t mean to undermine the quality of DKC:TF but, we all know is a “filler” game just like WWHD was. Besides, Iwata wanted Retro to focuse on the character’s model. I’m sure Nintendo didn’t mind the lack of Gamepad support. thedeciderU i thought so. dragonsilths says otherwise. i’ll look it up i guess. DragonSilths Retro did chose….they said Nintendo offered them Metroid or Donkey Kong and they chose Donkey Kong. thedeciderU i hadn’t read that, thought it was dictated. val berger I don’t really see how a game that at least supports off-tv play doesn’t do anything with the gamepad. The pad couldn’t really support DKTF’s gameplay so it’s cool they din’t force that. DK is a fast paced game that needs you to completely focus on what’s going on on-screen. If Retro’s gonna do something like Metroid Prime, they will find many things to do on the Pad for sure as that genre would fit perfectly here. Same with Mario Kart 8. If the gamepad would make the experience worse, why should they do more with it? Retro absolutely did the right thing. Akatosh And on the flip side developers and critics against Nintendo slam down on Nintendo’s hardware calling it ***t. Dark-Link73 Yeah. That’s what happens when you’re the best fish in the sea, everybody is out to get you. That’s why the best way to shut them all up is with games, not just words. 😉 David Horowitz They’ve got to say something about the game. It’s not like they’re lying, I believe that it IS a “very pretty game”. I thought the same thing after seeing the game footage. Dark-Link73 It is a gorgeous game indeed. thedeciderU at least it’s kind of advertising the game…? better than nothing to praise the wiiu on multiple game news sites. i guess. maybe. meh. Dark-Link73 True. Press releases and social networks have become free form of advertising for Nintendo. Just last night I saw an article on Yahoo News about MK8. However, doesn’t matter how many people go on the internet, nor how many million of people are on Facebook, they still don’t have the ability to reach the account of people that television can. That’s the advertising campaign on which Nintendo should be focusing. News articles and Facebook only reach a particular group of people. Television reaches the masses! thedeciderU my point exactly. how much money does nintendo have in the bank? fucking spend some money to save your product already. Bobby P. At the very least they can lay down evidence of what they say and are not doing what Forza, Killzone and Watchdogs did with reveal trailers. Dark-Link73 What did they do? Bobby P. Their reveal trailers made the game look amazingly detailed, only to have the actual game come out looking noticeably inferior in terms of graphic power. metalpants Well, you can’t really expect anything else. For starters, they come from developing for Wii and 3DS… Actually, if you think about it, they’ve been using SD graphics techniques since GameCube… that would be about 10 or so years of pretty much ignoring HD, while the rest of the industry standardized it… so coming from that to Wii U, I’d say they’re pretty genuine about the power of the system :P. Also, I’d say the graphics speak for themselves ;). I highly doubt PS3 or 360 could come all that close to this on their best day (well, unless you don’t mind 2fps gameplay…), and again, this is Nintendo we’re talking about… zero experience on HD graphics prior to Wii U, and suddenly boom… PC/PS4/X1 grade graphics. I think it’s OK to let them say whatever they want about Wii U’s power after seeing the masterpiece that is Mario Kart 8. Dark-Link73 🙂 Kristian Kouvo No. For the 1st time we all see what the system really can do and it performs well. Unlike the competition, Wii U has no bottlenecks in it’s system. It’s the most harmonic piece of hardware compared to others – and the only console offering next-gen experience controllerwise as well. FYI: I got both, also a PS4. matt Don’t talk rubbish Mariokart devs have made the best looking game on any platform so far this gen so i think they have the right to say the wiiu is powerful and they have proved it with mariokart8 unlike Sony they just tell u the ps4 can do 120fps at 1080p and that they have 178GB bandwidth ram and wiiu only has 28GB Hmmm turned out wiiu has 563.2GB Hmmmm…. Dark-Link73 You don’t really know what it means to be a “devil’s advocate”. Do you? Being a devil’s advocate is to take a counter-point in an argument for the sake of debate and even possibly proof a valid point. It is hardly “rubbish” (although “trolls” tend to behave the same way just for the sake of irate people). Now, being able to create a beautiful game doesn’t necessarily mean a console is “powerful”. Based on what I’ve seen over the years, it just means that the developer is fully acquainted with the console and is able to maximize the console’s potential. Look at the Wii for example. The Wii was clearly the weakest console of the last generation but yet, when the developers took their time and effort, it produced beautiful games that rivaled with games from the HD consoles. Games like Skyward Sword, Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Red Steel 2, Metroid Prime 3, and others; were so beautiful that even the aforementioned Red Steel 2 was mistaken by few people at IGN (total xbox fanboys) as an XBOX 360 game. Btw, were did you get your “turned out” figure of 563.2GB of bandwidth for the Wii U because neither had Nintendo, nor IBM (or AMD for that matter) have released official detailed figures of the Wii U’s specs, beyond processor’s speed and other basic specs. Justin Downer it was for the embedded ram not the whole system ram which could not even come close to that since its DDR3. If he wants to go into a spec war i know every little tiny thing about all consoles the Wii U isn’t about graphics its about games which sometimes happen to look quite nice. Justin Downer Also none of those games even come close to the 360/PS3 when it comes to visuals maybe in the first year of their gen but then again most of those games where also on the original xbox and PS2, wii was nothing more then 2 gamecubes put together and i have to admit i was sad i loved the GC its actually my favorite console during that gen i missed not being able to play some games however like GTA. I’m now a Nintendo and PC gamer and i love that combo. I hope next gen Nintendo actually asks developers what hardware they should get and ask them if they think this or that is a good idea(talking about the tablet or wii mote) Shane Michaels Well I mean, they’re not doing anything the other internal developing teams for Sony and Microsoft don’t do. They’re developing the game, and they decide that they like the processing and developing experience. Pretty simple statement. McNally The Wii U is highly efficient, not “underpowered.” It uses a fraction of the electricity that the PS4 does. Take into consideration the game-pad, as well, and it’s neither overpriced. Nintendo sell it refurbished in a like-new state for $200, half as much as a new PS4. People need to stop comparing it to the PS3 when considering it’s value. It’s considerably more powerful, and highly more efficient than a PS3. Gregg If they secretly thought the Hardware was poop, they wouldn’t say anything at all. They’d just make the game… oh, and the game would likely be Poop too. So far, the Evidence points otherwise. looking forward to MK8. 🙂 ActivesiN yeah hes not lying, it looks beautiful RedChu It looks fantastic, indeed, but it’s not going to stop any haters. Sure, it’s running at 60fps and 1080p which PS4 and Xbone has difficulty achieving, but it’s Mario Kart – not a pseudorealistic war simulator. Daniel Gonzalez I think you mean Xbox One more so. insomniac i am so tired of people calling it the Xbone!!!! i love my X1….thought that Xbone name dropped when they backtracked? Daniel Gonzalez Even though I don’t care for the Xbox One, I make it a habit to call it by its proper name. Well, any product for that matter. RedChu I call it Xbone for the same reason I call PlayStation 4 PS4, or Xbox 360 just 360. ETeach I’m not so noble. I call it Xbone because I think it sounds funny 😛 bistricky I buy most of my games from EB GAMES in my area (store is connected with GameStop) and even their purchase receipts name Xbox One as XBONE, when I bought some games for my son. MerryBlind . I don’t think it’s 1080p though. I’d be very surprised actually. Most games Nintendo claimed to be 1080p ended up being 720p UPSCALED to 1080p. The only real 1080p game so far is Zelda Wind Waker HD, and Smash will be too, that I can believe it. Mario Kart 8 though? No way, it looks way too pretty to be 1080p. insomniac this is the worst group of comments i have ever seen for any article. we got one person saying something another getting mad about it then 20 more people trying to explain to the guy that got mad what was really meant silly Daniel Gonzalez If this is the worst you’ve ever seen, then you must not visit here often. I suppose that would be a blessing. insomniac ok you got me….not the worst iv ever seen just silly i guess imo Daniel Gonzalez Agreed. Around here, you have to expect that. Especially with disagreements. Some of them can get ugly. I never have high expectations with socializing on the internet. ;P Jaymes Deen The problem usually arises, when the people who actually enjoy the system come on here to talk about, then you get the so called “Hey I’m just sharing my opinion” people, who all they do is bash the product under the guise of, “Its free country, I am just offering constructive criticism, etc etc”. Then you get the Nintendo Fans feeling that they have to defend, because they dont want these “opinion people” just freely bashing the product they love. JB Right. insomniac has set the bar really low. We should tell this kid to stick around, it only gets “better”. Daniel Gonzalez It’s possible to have good discussions with posters on here as there are plenty of good people here. Of course, you have people who can’t stand your opinions that they feel the need to belittle you any way they can. That’s when you sit back, and watch those fools make asses of themselves. I find it entertaining. It’s no skin of my back, or anyone who has a good head on their shoulders. 😛 JB I personally take the “grab the popcorn and sit back” approach myself when things get crazy. Heck I might even make a crack or two. Though I do agree there are some great people on here to have discussions with. Even the ones you don’t agree with all the time. It’s actually fairly easy to tell for the most part who’s who. In all honesty, it’s a lot better here than say maybe 6 or so months ago. oontz exactly what I was thinking. SolarGalaxa Nintendo, it isn’t the “power” that makes your games beautiful. It’s your particular art style. Just admit this. Zuxs13 Tell that to slightly mad studios. CaptinnDaGameMaster! And third-party developers have yet to take full advantage of the Wii U’s power. 🙂 Daniel Gonzalez It being a Nintendo game and all, I think it’s expected to to take full advantage of the Wii U’s power. There are just some that don’t understand it’s complex hardware, then you have those that don’t see it worth the money to develop for. You can thank poor sales on third party games. matt Well the proof is right there so it’s hardly biasses is it ? Daniel Gonzalez If it’s a 1st party studio of Nintendo, there’s bound to be some bias within their statements. It’s no different if a 1st party studio from Microsoft claims that the Xbox One is the best console to develop for. Jaymes Deen Yeah thats why when the new Mario 3d world was made on the U, and the developers came out and said that the game was awesome and beautiful and that they loved working on the game and it was so pretty, etc, etc. They were totally being biased, cause we can clearly see that the game looks like crap…….. matt Yeah alright mate if u think that then u must think that knack on ps4 looks a living joke……haha you sony kids make me laugh. C4 I want to eat this game 🙂 Kenshin0011 I agree this game’s graphics look amazing. And the videos and screen shots don’t even do it justice! Seeing it run in real life on 1080p at 60 fps will be so much fun! TULFich That Rosalina´s HD ass :E Leo It will be very hard to stay focus on the road tracks with those astonishing graphics! It is an incredible distraction and i love it! lol Christian Schoff BOO YAH! Sam Duh. Geoffrey Tasker I agree with dark link. You aren’t going to hear a Nintendo 1st party say “this game looks like crap in this crap console” (I’M NOT SAYING THE WII U IS CRAP JUST MAKING A POINT) .have someone who has worked on xbox and ps3 or even the current Gen work on wii u and tell me how impressed they were about its graphical capability then it would be worth the read. What you are reading here is basically like going to Wendy’s and being told the double stack has more meat than the single so you can put more stuff on the burger. That’s great and all but I’d rather hear from a consumer review how good it is if I can’t taste it myself Jaymes Deen But the thing is that Nintendo Made games, actually do Look awesome, because they themselves made sure of it. What is it that you are looking for? Are you looking for EA to make a game for the U, then when it’s worse then say a PS3 or 360 version, come out and say “Yeah its the hardware”, when in fact it’s their laziness. Based on your comment, you clearly believe that a Game can run on old hardware such as the 360 and PS3 but can’t run on the “U”, like some developers have let you to believe. Geoffrey Tasker Where the hell did you get that conclusion. My point was to show me more third parties impressed with the hardware rather than people who made the hardware or work directly for the company who made it. I don’t play EA games and I’m well aware of what the wii u can do as far as what’s been said about it goes. I may be a Nintendo fan but I’m not a blind one. just like the wii: its more powerful than other system of the previous Gen but specs wise is not quite where most Western developers want it to be and contrary to what otaku of the world want you to think, the western devs rule the market right now. There’s a thin line between making your own way or getting lost in the fray and with the wii u Nintendo is struggling to keep its eyes on its destination. Think about it. No one sees anything wrong with the fact that people keep posting articles about how Nintendo can take the hit if wii u fails? As a consumer who wants not only great Nintendo games but great games period, And even more so for the company to be#1 in the console market again. You have to ask if Nintendo can take the hit why not make a console people WANT to work with? The wii did very well and thank goodness it did but they made the terrible assumption lightning would strike twice. When most devs abandoned the wii due to lack of power. No matter how much we know the system has the potential. we won’t see how good it is from anyone but Nintendo and that’s IS a problem. jrob23 I don’t really think Nintendo cares what the dudebro devs think nor for their games. They have admitted that HD took them by surprise and they are playing catch up. Despite that, it still has a stronger library than its competitors and if Kart and Smash bring buyers and the install base goes up, 3rd parties will miraculously be able to develop for it again. But they know Nintendo is not going to bow to them and grovel or pay them so they would rather take a wait and see approach. They don’t feel they can make money, I can’t blame them, they can’t right now. We’ll see what happens if Kart gets the install base up to 15-20 million which it might if they release a Mario Kart bundle, especially if Nintendo has a good E3 and announces a new Zelda or Metroid. With Smash, X and others soon to follow, this is a make or break year for them. Geoffrey Tasker That belief that the west doesn’t matter is arrogant And its exactly why no one wanted to work with Nintendo during the new era. This isn’t just about they’d make EA there are a lot of great Western Developers and is not just EA who thinks the system needed more power for their games. You can say Smash and Mario will cause surge and that might be true. For Nintendo. As development continued to Evolve the gap will only get bigger. Nintendo as a company is just starting to say things about he graphics that others have been saying for years and if Nintendo can’t afford it as you say why have sites like this one And ign say they can? Someone is lying and I doubt you have the inside scoop these guys do. I’m not saying Nintendo is doomed and I’m Damn suree not saying Nintendo needs a company like EA but they do need to stop shooting themselves in the foot get off a 25 year old high horse and make a system not just for themselves. I’ve owned every Nintendo system since the nes it have never been this bad jrob23 I agree with many of your points. Nintendo has always had a slight case of arrogance to them. They feel, and many agree, that they make the best family friendly games and the most polished platformers in the industry. But what a lot of people don’t seem to get is that the Nintendo audience for the most party simply doesn’t care about 3rd party. If they want to play a game they can’t find on the Wii U they most likely have a PS360 or current gen console to play it on. BF, COD, and the like are purchased on other systems because their online was better and their friends had one too. Nintendo didn’t really care and let them have that while they made party games. That strategy won them last gen. Fast forward to the Wii U and like I said, they were unprepared. They were late to understand the draw of online and understanding how to program HD. So this has not been the launch they desired. But I think their 1st party games have delivered big time. Mario Kart will knock it out of the park. It’s my belief that they have closed the HD gap. They have caught up and games should be coming at a steadier pace. It sucked, and I am sure they are feeling the pressure but that is in the past now. I am not sure it will be enough to save the Wii U but at least they have learned some lessons and should be better prepared with the Wii U going forward and for their next console. All launches do well. Of this gen, only PS4 has done very well and I can only imagine how much they had to spend on advertising to get the hype machine going. They sold despite not very many good exclusives and a general lack of games. But that will slow down as I don’t see that kiler app that will really move consoles like a Titanfall or Mario Kart. At least not till Destiny. I don’t think any of them will sell nearly as well as last gen. jrob23 “No matter how much we know the system has the potential. we won’t see how good it is from anyone but Nintendo and that’s IS a problem. ” you are right to an extent. It will be Nintendo that will maximize the hardware…that’s natural. But Rayman Legends is the definitive version and is very polished. Project Cars is rumored to getting a lot out of it too. Plus, maybe, slight chance, but maybe, Ubisoft delayed Watchdogs because they really want to make it the best they can and they want the install base to be bigger which makes sense if they release after Kart and Smash come out. oontz way to totally miss the point. jrob23 Project Cars devs basically said the Wii U is plenty powerful. But I guess that fell on deaf ears CaesarGood This make others who develops games look stupid, its like they have no idea wtf they are doing. And shows how lazy and how many excuses they make when all it needs is just a lil bit of time… anthony optimo Well said, all I hear are excuses from third party developers regarding the Wii U being underpowered. I had to watch this Mario Kart trailer a few times just to make sure that my eyes weren’t deceiving me. This game looks impressive PERIOD. David Lein Well they are “Excuses” but you can’t say much. You look at Wonderful 101 which flopped. Every Wii U port has tanked. Nintendo just does not sell. It’s not like Sony has a killer game line up now….but let’s face reality….. Sony the name it self gives them more leeway. Did the PS2 have a strong launch line up no, and the PS4’s best selling game for awhile was a bunch of dumbasses going gaga over a Call of Duty Game which already came out for the PS3 months ago. But, you have to give Kudos to Sony….they with their business strategy have made their product so enticing that PS products fly off the shelves. The Consumer even deludes him or herself going “Sony has all the games” when it’s obvious Thief is piece of shit. ALso how many Sony Fanboys played RE4,Baiten Kaitos, Symphonia, Viewtiful Joe, and Eternal Darkness? None of them played RE4 until it came to PS2. But notice despite all those games we heard, “OH gee well Nintendo has no games” THat is the image Nintendo has despite the reality or not. Nintendo every time it releases a console it starts well behind the 8 ball. SOny, can give you shit games (like they’re doing now) the consumer will act like they’re getting something innovative, but then a year later the true innovative games come. Rinslowe Which in large part is evened out by returns that “could be pure profit” going more towards recuperating the cost of sourcing, manufacture and distribution on a degree much higher than either of the other two major players. Cost which will keep going for some time to come despite the popularity… It seems to me in reality, all of the big three console manufacturers have their issues when it comes to this generation in regards to maximising returns. David Lein That’s an interesting post, but i think the consumer….gives Sony a bit of leeway. It’s always have given Sony Leeway. Remember when the Dreamcast had killer games and Sony essentially ended Sega’s console run with “Warriors of Might and Magic” as a launch title? How about now? Sony does not have one standout game. I’d say logically the best games of this current generation are Wii U games, and Titanfall for Xone. Sony didn’t need a heavy hitting blockbuster like Titanfall. In fact, even with Titanfall, PS4 is inexplicably selling better than Xone. It seems like no matter how garbage Sony is during it’s emerging stages, the consumer somehow blindly buys and gives Sony compliments that are only applicable a year or a year and half after the console launch of having a deep library. It’s impressive on Sony’s part in giving themselves that sort of image and generating that reaction. Then Nintendo just gets no respect. Can you believe the DK Tropical Freeze reviews? “Too hard?” I mean it sucks but Nintendo is always playing the game a few steps behind. Rinslowe Where Sony excels is in their branding, marketing etc… And they can sell on hype alone. Hype for the form factor, the innards and the promise of great gaming experiences. Where they truly hook consumers in for the long haul – is I believe – firstly in that they do indeed end up delivering on providing great gaming experiences. And also by giving their consumers what they want. Nintendo is more focused on giving their consumers what they didn’t know they wanted and as we can see with the Wii U, that can sometimes backfire. But where Sony excels, Nintendo honestly does very, very badly. From a marketing perspective Nintendo’s internal think tank for brand awareness may as of today be all but nonexistent… Perhaps it’s time for Ninty to outsource their branding and marketing to Disney… They seem quite well aligned in their modes of business/ image etc.. Only Disney is embarrassingly good at branding, even better than Sony. I’m sure if Nintendo asked nicely and allowed their Ip’s to feature in a few theme parks around the world, Disney could turn their public image around for a reasonable price… And in record time… 😉 MerryBlind . …What the fudge does this have to do with what CeasarGood said????????????????? David Lein THis has everything to do with it, because you see Nintendo’s problem isn’t “graphics”, “lack of third party”, or “games”. Nintendo thanks to it’s head start does currently have the best games out there. That’s logical. Other than the n64 nintendo hasn’t suffered from a shortage of Third Parties. Considering Namco, Konami, Capcom, hell even Squaresoft returned to the Gamecube. We even had Resident Evil 4 has a GC exclusive for awhile. Nintendo’s problem according to what Ceasar said about “giving it a little more time” is that people don’t want to give Nintendo more time not because of games, graphics, or whatever. IT’s simply cause they’re “Nintendo”. That’s it other than for handhelds and the Wii. Ever since the Super Nintendo, no matter what Nintendo does they have garnered the unwarranted criticism which is only valid for one console the N64 “Well you got no third parties” and the Nintendo Brand for most of their consoles just scream “No Sell!” MerryBlind . Lol did you even read his comment? What he said is that in terms of game development, Nintendo are an example that more studios should follow. Too often a potentially good game is released unfinished, unpolished, inconsistent, etc. (Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed 3, Batman Arkham Origins, etc.) Nintendo take as much time as needed to make perfect games, which is the reason why their games are classics after classics. Do you understand his comment now? David Lein I don’t know where you got that cause all he said was “a little more time”. I am giving you a reason why people don’t want to give Nintendo a little more time. You damn right. Eternal Darkness is a classic and resident evil 4 on gc was probably the best game of that generation. But they did not sell well. Neither did fzero gX. Nintendo gave us a bunch of classics with the gc and yet it is their worst seller. Fact is developers don’t want to give Nintendo a little more time. It is bullshit but it is reality. Sony can send consoles flying off the shelf with a weak library. Nintendo has critically acclaimed Mario pikmin and dk but it is not helping them as they hope. I am convinced the consumer market just hates Nintendo home consoles. I personally think it is travesty people botched Nintendo had no third party polished games and never played re4 on the gc or even mgs rein snakes . But sadly that’s theh way it is. Nintendo has given us polished games since the gamecube and no one buys them. It even got outsold by the shitbox sorry xbox MerryBlind . All I’m saying is you bringing sale numbers and PS4 into the conversation doesn’t have much to do with the original comment. He was talking about game development, not marketing and consumerism. The ‘it’ in “…all it needs is a lil bit of time” wasn’t referring to the ‘Wii U’ or ‘Nintendo’ itself, but simply to ‘making a good game’. David Lein Maybe but the consumer is very relevant. Seriously, why would people develop a polished game for the wii u if it willnot sell. This whole wii u can’t handle graphics is just nonsense . I am telling you why developers will not put games on Nintendo. There have been wayyyy too many well polished games that have flopped onbig n consoles. Guess no one has the guts in the industry to flat out say they are afraid to lose money. C4 Yep. That’s IMHO why Nintendo should cooperate more with others. They don’t want to with 3rd Parties which I understand. But developers like Epic or Crytek for example? Why not ask (uh… pay) them to build a showcase for the console. Platinum shouldn’t be the exception… C4 Not sure about the launch date (US/EU) but 2000 – 2001 PS2 had a very solid line-up. All sports games, MGS2, Final Fantasy X, Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, GTA, Gran Turismo 3, Timesplitters. All released prior to the GameCube launch. That’s IMO why the GameCube had a rough time, likely the main reason. It could have been the best console ever by a mile, the PS2 was already set and perceived as a solid platform by the mainstream market. David Lein A lot of those games you mentioned did not come out until 2001. Ps2 launched in the year 2000. Secondly I agree. I own a ps2. I am sad to say that an era with that depth of gaming for all Cosnoles will never exist again. I owned both a gc and ps2 and got to play windwaker and possibly my favorite ps2 game mgs 3. Ultimately Nintendo will get ignored. It just could not hang with the Sony brand. Heck it could not even hang with the xbox. Sony their brand is just too strong.but I am glad you noted that. The ps2 gc days if you owned both was an awesome time to be a gamer anthony optimo Nintendo Power on display here, take notice. I wish I worked for Nintendo, they do not sacrifice artistic integrity, ever. They make us wait a bit for their products but it is justified after seeing this trailer. Show us more of Monolith Soft’s X, my next gen RPG cup is empty Nintend-Bro. Rinslowe Kart looks very very nice… I wish more dev’s could be enticed to approach Wii U in the same way as Nintendo. But I think for that to happen, Nintendo needs to approach dev’s more in the same way they have platinum games and Bayo 2. Bayo 2 looking absolutely gorgeous as well, built from the ground up for the platform. And exclusive… WellWisher Yeah, they would pretty much have to straight up pay them at this point, which I think would be a very good idea. It would guarantee exclusivity, and ensure that the games were built from the ground up on Wii U. steveb944 This is going to look gorgeous! Kyle I really dont understand why so much hate on nintendo, they really make the best games and the WiiU is amazing WellWisher People don’t want to have to buy Nintendo hardware to play Nintendo games. They want GTA and Mario & Zelda on the same box. That’s all it is. I was pissed too back when I had to buy a PS2 just to play GTAIII. I wanted it to come to the Cube but it never did. So my primary console was the Cube and my PS2 was a GTA box. Geoffrey Tasker Same goes for me I got my wii u and my 360 is a street fighter machine C4 SNES is my SF machine ;P MerryBlind . You can’t have everything buddy. Wii U is the perfect ‘complimentary console’, because it’s the cheapest, and it has tons of amazing exclusives you can’t fint anywhere else. The way to go is PC or PS4 or X1 AND Wii U. WellWisher Yeah I’m a PC + Wii U gamer now. But my point was that people hate on Nintendo because they’re forced to buy the hardware if they want their games. That’s all. MerryBlind . But they have MANY great exclusives, so their console is actually worth it. I’d say people should hate on Microsoft since they barely have any exclusives appart from Halo. People are forced to buy an Xbox to play Gears or Halo, yet they don’t complain and gladly bend over. Silly people. C4 Yep… IMHO it’s often more ignorance then hate. Maybe games like MK8 can change that at least a bit. val berger The only thing that still really sucks about Mario Kart 8 is that they didn’t manage to at least create a Battle Mode supporting 5 players. One of the WiiU’s keyfeatures was the ability of 5player asynchronous gameplay and MK8 would’ve been the perfect fit for that. Adding one player that could even play on his own screen would’ve opened up many really great Battlemode-mechanics and even new concepts like already introduced in Nintendoland. Like catching one player, battling him down or something like that. Damn, damn, damn, Nintendo. Another missed opportunity to promote your baby’s key feature. Especially with a Mario Kart game that looks so promising and is going to draw huge attention, this definitely hurts. And especially considering that the 3rd party Sonic-funracer from 2013 already managed to achieve that. Ouch! val berger BTW I’d totally shut the fuck up complaining if they’d at least add this function via DLC later on. I’d even pay for that for chrissake, just make it happen. Gabe Hoffman We don’t really know anything about Battle Mode yet. The problem with 5 player gamepad split screen is that it would be very difficult to render 5 separate screens at once including streaming to the gamepad without the framerate potentially taking a huge hit. MerryBlind . I completely agree with you. I’ve been saying for months that MK8 should support at least 5-players local multiplayer, if not 6. They confirmed the Wii U can handle 2 GamePads at once, but they have no games doing that right now. MK8 could, and should, have been this game. 6-Players local in MK8 would have sold the Wii U like hotcakes. C4 It would have been fun to toy with the other karts on the Touchscreen. Kind of like a terrorist mode where you have an advantage and everyone else plays against you. IMHO Nintendo Land missed that opportunity with a normal racing game-like game. Even 2 on TV versus one on the GamePad would be fun. My guess though is (unless there will be some surprises in Battle mode, they have been really silent about it until now) they just really wanted to focus on race mode and polish the tracks and stuff. Can’t work on everything at the same time. val berger yeah like I mentioned, I’d be cool with a DLC, althoiugh I’m usually not a DLC guy. And bullying with the touchpad would be kinda cool but I guess they didn’t want to give the gamepad-player abilities, the other players haven’t. starwars360 So funny if Mario Kart 8 boost Wii U sales up massive same time nintendo haters but they own Wii U for Mario Kart 8. So Nintendo haters only want to bashing on Nintendo stuffs but still love Nintendo games and they not patience to wait and play epic Mario Kart 8 and other Nintendo titles on Wii U. 🙂 Alvaro de Hunter This is THE game that will change everything. Even the most hardened Nintendo critics know that MK is a AAA series, and now Nintendo has created a master piece with a resolution and an art style that are simply breathtaking. Moo Moo Meadow looks absolutely stunning. And it’s released the day after my birthday. GET IN! Rodger_Ramjet This game looks good enough to eat! The WiiU is a machine that Nintendo can and will learn from. It’s a machine that has huge potential and that beautiful gamepad is such a brilliant concept if only it was used well and incorporated so much more. I use WiiU constantly and love it. The fact that multi console gamers that chose WiiU/PS4, WiiU/XBONE, WiiU/PS4/XBONE; so many on twitter for eg. say they end up using and enjoy playing WiiU more speaks volumes. WiiU is under-utilised NOT underpowered. William Cole It is very beautiful. It makes me wonder how good Zelda will look. anthony optimo But the Wii U is the weakest of the new consoles what what what!?!?!!
