We just can’t stop talking about Mario Kart 8: everyone’s excited about the new Wii U racer, and Nintendo is doing an excellent job at promoting the game (for once). In fact, there is so much anticipation for Mario Kart 8, that even analyst Michael Pachter believes that it will exceed expectations. The latest bit of Mario Kart 8 news comes from Nintendo’s Kosuke Yabuki, director of Mario Kart 8, who said that the game pushed the Wii U to its limits, delivering HD visuals at 60 frames per second. In an interview with the upcoming issue of Edge magazine, Yabuki says that while the console was pushed to the limits with the Wii U, “it still has a lot of potential left, and I suspect there are more ways to make use of its capabilities that we haven’t even imagined.” See also: Mario Kart 8 includes unlockable gear, private online lobbies, more From the countless gameplay videos we’ve seen, Mario Kart 8 looks gorgeous. As for the smooth 60 fps gameplay, it’s hard to tell that because YouTube videos are limited to just 30 fps. In order to get a real look at how the game plays, it’s essential to try it out in real life. Or at least get a 60 fps video of it. Mario Kart 8 launches later this month, and will feature 32 race tracks — a mix of new tracks and remakes — and will come with all the classic Nintendo characters: Mario, Luigi, Toad, etc. Don’t forget that you can listen to the full Mario kart 8 soundtrack right now. Nintendo doesn't need 3rd parties, says Stardock CEO Marioman21 Cool Shota I think wii u is a really great system. I have one problem. The name ……. Keith Get over it. It’s the Wii but personalized for you….Hense, Wii U!! matthew garcia I think he understands the meaning of it but it doesn’t change the fact that Wii U sounds stupid and unattractive Shota exactly Keith So the Wii sounded attractive?? Or the “Xbox”? How bout the name “Nintendo”?? They all make no sense & do not soumd attractive. At least the “U” added at the end of Wii has a meaning to it. Emmanuel Nintendo makes sense. It’s Japanese look it up. Keith I know what it means. How does “luck in heaven” mean anything towards gaming?? matthew garcia Doesn’t matter about the meaning it just sounds stupid. Wii u it’s funny just to say it lol. To many people make fun of the name wiiu4life PS4 sounds Good? X Box One ? Get over it already. matthew garcia They are definitely more popular so I’m sure the majority would take PlayStation and Xbox over Wii u Capt. Smoker There isn’t enough options for it to be personalized by anybody, you can’t even have a choice of wallpaper, let alone store photos, videos etc on it, no official social network apps, the name makes no sense if that’s it’s meaning…. wiiu4life It’s a game machine not a PC or tablet. It plays games everything else is an added plus. If you owned a NES you never once said I want it to play cassette tapes. Capt. Smoker It’s hardly an excuse in this day and age, all other non Nintendo consoles have these features, it makes no sense why the Wii u can’t have them, especially to take advantage of the gamepad, I see your point about the new, I didn’t expect it either, but then I got a Sega game gear and after I could watch TV on that, simply no turning back greengecko007 Upvoting yourself is a really creative idea. C4 Still better than Xbone 😛 matthew garcia Xboner Vorpal Blade Xbox-nobody-wants-One Shota that’s true Josie the Sketcher Playstation 4 is a boring and uncreative name yet simple. The name doesn’t matter, it’s the marketing. Shota marketing true that. there are people who don’t what a wii u is. my parents , people from school and some of my brother friends. yet everyone knows ps4 oontz It’s simple in right away you know it’s the next play station. Not possible to be confused between 3 and 4. Jason Should have been called “Nintendo U” matthew garcia Should have been called Super Nintendo 2. Now that would have sold Carlos Webster … matthew garcia Sad thing is only Nintendo knows how to push it to it’s limits TCar Well, at least they are proving the capabilities to the other devs of whom are just to lazy to try it for themselves. Robinpreet Sidhu Yeah matthew garcia I agree to a certain extent. Maybe Nintendo should reach out to them and explain there combination of hardware Officer Raichu give ubisoft activision and other 3rd parties a couple month class XD matthew garcia Ha lol u may be right. There more use to working on pc like architecture TCar They have reached out and there has been little response. It comes down to porting. The devs just want to make one game and port it to every system. They could easily do this with the Wii U but they choose not to. What Donkey Kong: TF proved is that you can make games for the Wii U without the use of the Gamepad. Mario Kart 8 is proving that you can make HD games that runs 60fps without glitching out. If the devs would pay attention to these tidbits of information they themselves would realize that what they want out of a system, the Wii U can deliver. They, Nintendo, just got to the point of, (fine you don’t want to develop, guess we will have to show you what you could be doing and what your missing out on.) Rinslowe Platinum are doing a pretty nice job at it. Bayonetta 2 looks quite stunning. And a major step up from the first title. companyoflosers yes well platinum is owned by nintendo pretty much. although i guess they are technically 2nd party now. thwe point is they have all nintendo’s know-how when it comes to wii u. thats how bayonetta 2 is able to go 1080p 60fps 504HotBoy I don’t know about that. It’s rumored that they have a multi game deal with Microsoft for Xbox One titles and one of their first titles is a Viewtiful Joe style action game and all info will be at E3. Only time will tell. I wish Nintendo does acquire Platinum though. David John Gifford Platinum is a private owned company nintendo has no say over it darkcreap Unless they were the owners of it, of course :D. But yes, Platinum is not owned by Nintendo. They probably have a collaboration deal, just that. It would be nice to see them working together more times, though. Rinslowe I think Platinum have a deal with Nintendo right now for another few exclusive games. But they’re pretty independent. Like totally. Not sure they would be keen to sell up either… darkcreap No, they are not owned by Nintendo. They might have a collaboration deal, but no more. matt Bayonetta2 is able to hit 1080p/60fps because of the wiiu’s insane bandwidth ram end of,3rd partys are just being idiots i mean ive seen a few games that wiiu could of done much better but 3rd partys are on a mission to downplay the wii’s capabilitys…..good luck to 3rd partys because when Nintendo have Bay2,X,Kart,Smash,Zelda,ect ect 3rd partys will be exposed…with no where to hide. Since ps3 ect devs have got lazy at getting used to anything that isn’t easy and straight forward to develop for ? as we all know with custom hardware like wiiu you can get better results if you learn the hardware and especially that edram section ect. mario54671 Bayonetta 2 was “targeting” 1080p, that doesn’t mean it WILL be running in 1080p. The game will likely be 720p/60fps just so they can do other cool visual tricks with the game and not be limited on what they could do due to the amount of pixels rendering. Rich Garriques sad thing is 3rd party devs don’t know how to push wii u to its limits and they are suppose to be game developers thats pretty sad and pathetic. matthew garcia I think they can actually do it. It’s just a money thing. To make the game better requires more production and that cost more money. They know the game ain’t gonna sale well cuz Wii u is not selling well so why waste the money. It’s Nintendo’s fault also Veries Seals I am curious about this mode of thought on, It’s nintendo’s fault. It is not Nintendo’s fault. Nintendo is a hardware manufacturer with its own game development studios. Those are the only studios that Nintendo is responsible for. Let me explain why we can’t blame Nintendo for 3rd party developers lack of quality products. Nintendo provides the platform for the developers to work on. The is the vehicle to get games out to the world. Now this is the same as Walmart. We would not be able to blame Wal-mart for a product made by someone else because their product is not selling. It is the developers job to make an appealing product if they want us to buy. It is also not Nintendo’s responsibility to advertise for 3rd party devs. The game should sell itself no matter what console it is on. Lets look at the math. Sony has just over 7 million ps4 consoles out on the market. Yeah that puts them #1. Ok nintendo has sold over 6 million consoles, that puts them at #2. The xbox 1 comes in last but more developers are on the platform with out the large install base. I honestly think some debs want Nintendo to fail. They have changed how they work with devs. they have made dev kits free for them. And devs that have actually made games for the Wii U actually brag on how helpful nintendo is when you call for help with developing their games. How much more does nintendo have to do? pay for the development of every game? No! Sony is not doing it. Neither is Microsoft. Why should nintendo? 504HotBoy You are 100% right. There was actually a whole conspiracy theory article on 3rd Party Devs and Nintendo. Mainly Western Devs that’s the problem. One of the things I know is that certain 3rd party games outsell Sony & Microsoft 1st Party games on their respective platform, but fail to outsell Nintendo’s 1st Party games on it’s platform. But they were trying to say how Western devs were trying to force Nintendo out of the hardware business, and making the market rely heavily on 3rd party, bringing in more money for the 3rd party devs. In all honesty Sony & Microsoft rely more on 3rd Party than Nintendo. Because Nintendo are great at making their own games. There were more things pointed out and it’s just theories, but some of it makes you wonder. At the end of the day, it’s all about money. greengecko007 The Walmart analogy doesn’t really hold though… The products you find at Walmart are not made using goods that are associated with Walmart. All Walmart is doing is selling products that they stock. Software making is a whole other deal. 3rd parties are limited to utilizing only the hardware that is within the Wii U, which was selected by Nintendo. It takes time to learn how to program. Since it is Nintendo’s design and their product, there is an expectation that they should be experts on how to program for their design choice. In contrast, both Microsoft and Sony elected for a hardware design that has been used by the majority for years. Veries Seals Actually that is untrue. Every product that is in Wal-Mart is not a product made by Wal-Mart nor are the majority of them even associated with Wal-Mart. So yes my analogy holds just fine. greengecko007 I don’t think you actually understand. Because the products in Walmart have nothing to do with Walmart, your analogy doesn’t make any sense. I can’t blame Walmart about the quality of Colgate toothpaste I bought there because they have no involvement in the creation process of that toothpaste. However, 3rd party companies making videogames have to make them based on the hardware for the platform. The Wii U’s hardware design was chosen by Nintendo. Nintendo’s decision on hardware directly affects how 3rd party companies have to program their software. It’s not the same situation. Rinslowe This is true of course. But only to a point. The quality of the programming made on the platform, irrespective of the similarities and ease to port between the other systems, is still a choice. Whether or not that choice has a valid reason, it’s not directly a hardware issue. If third party titles were selling well on Wii U and the install base was there to support widespread profitability for those studios, then optimising their titles to run comparably or better on the hardware would be justified. Catch 22 perhaps? greengecko007 I agree with all of that. My point was just that the comparison to Walmart doesn’t make a lot of sense. Those are two completely different situations. The quality of 3rd party games is most directly affected by the people programming them. But Nintendo did make the choice to make it harder for developers. Rinslowe Yes, making it harder to port compared to the other two next gen platforms was a mistake. But that’s price of legacy. Funny they would embrace certain features new to them while remaining stoic to others. Emulating all Wii software (discounted) for the E-shop to further add relevance to VC, would have been a better move than backward compatibility. I’m also certain the majority of people didn’t buy Wii U’s to play their old Wii games. Although some do because it’s novel. I just turn my Wii console on… matt Yes but Moonlith and Platinum seem to be making 2 of the best looking games so far in this next gen race ???? and ok Moonlith are Nintendo now but they used to be a 3rd party and Platinum are 3rd party yet they can achieve amazing nextgen visuals at high res/fps on wiiu no probs ???? matthew garcia It is Nintendo’s fault. It’s not just about liking someone it’s about business. If developers felt like it wasn’t gonna make them money they wouldn’t do it. What makes u think if Nintendo was to make them Alot of money they would pass it up. There are more developers on Xbox cuz even though with its small install base it’s American and consoles are bigger in America then Japan. The console will pass up Wii u in the future Veries Seals ok, guy. if thats how you see it. matthew garcia That’s how I see it. It’s a business before anything else Veries Seals yes, and not only do I own a business, I have managed over million dollar businesses. You go into business to make not just money but a profit. It is not necessarily profitable for nintendo to pay for other studios responsibilities. I understand how you feel, but it is just not nintendo’s job to foot their bills. matthew garcia The developers don’t make the console Nintendo does and they made a console that is not developer friendly. Nintendo hurt there own profits oontz This! thedeciderU same with sony and ps3 matthew garcia Sony did hurt themselves with the ps3. Thing is ps3 is actually still selling ok and great games are still being made for it. Wii lost all support back in 2012 thedeciderU yeah, it is fine now, but for about the first two or three years i remember reading articles and hearing news about how sony had failed with ps3. it’s kind of the same thing now with wiiu. i’m sure nintendo will dig themselves out. lonewolf I wonder why indie developers are being made for the wii u if its not developer friendly. Zorpix I wanna see them push the limits on a game that has realistic graphics. I just want to see how, at its max, it compares to the others… For science matthew garcia Agreed Mike That would be… Shane Michaels http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzhhdsKL4n1qh34sw.gif Mithiragi http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110616183055/glee/images/d/dc/Fantastic.gif wcb123 Hopefully that will be Zelda or metroid flclfool And they said Other M was gonna be the last 😮 silly Nintendo. val berger Wouldn’t mind if Nintendo would manage to create some new IP for the same audience as Metroid instead of always forcing themselves to create a new game without really being able to really add new gameplay elements. I love Metroid and i loved the Metroid Prime-Games, but they sometimes felt like with every Prime game, they were all about recreating the perfect Super Metroid 3D experience and I guess I didn’t like anything that went beyond that like all those additional characters. I’d love to see Nintendo giving that metroid franchise some rest and introducing something fresh that’s still somehow related to action/exploration/adventure gameplay, dark, moody, beautiful and more open for modern gameplay elements you couldn’t integrate into Metroid games withouit ruining the game’s principles. Zuxs13 Wouldnt Metroid Prime be an example of them creating a “New IP” for the Metroid Audience? Its a completely different game then previous iterations and offers many new game play elements. Why make a totally new “franchise” that has the exact same game play mechanics but is has an unproven audience when they can recreate an exisitng one that has a proven audience? Nintendo is the best at doing this but unfortunately people see the title of their games and just assume “oh its another rehash of Mario, or Zelda, etc. “. When in reality many of their games (not all) provide much the same experiences as a new IP would but with a familiar cast. Though I agree it would be great to see something else in this genre from Nintendo, or even something else in the Zelda genre from them, I don’t think it is necessary as they have done a terrific job in “most” cases with these franchises in re-inventing them. But a new IP would allow them to push boundaries and not piss off fan-boys as well. val berger Prime was good because it was just a good game, but as I said, most elements Retro added themselves to that franchise didn’t really work out for me (or maybe it wasn’t retro but Nintendo’s scripts, whatever) For me the Metroid Universe feels like it doesn’t allow too much freedom in terms of storytelling. One reason might be that for me Metroid is still that Alien-inspired game that’s – just like the movie – all about being alone fighting against unknown creatures. The more story, characters, explanation and so on you put into that, the more it destroys my own interpretation of this whole universe. So although I did like MP: Corruption it still felt like the one game that at least to do with that franchise as it was this Star Wars-esque universe I just didn’t want to really be part of as I was used to not be part of a story at all, as my gameplay experience just ‘was’ the complete experience. Not too easy to explain but maybe you’ll get my point. Haven’t played Other M just because of these reasons. So if Nintendo really wants a franchise to really create this story-driven universe around, please don’t use Metroid for that and create something new. There’s room for that. Another thing I’ve been thinking about was that so many people who grew up with The Legend of Zelda have now somehow outgrown that franchise and may not really be into Nintendo-gaming anymore. It’d be cool to create some Prime-style side-franchise to deliver some superdark, hard, mature and more complex game for that audience, maybe even from some western studio. Especially because I actually do agree with some japanese developers who claim that the japanese gaming industry is somehow really suffering a frightening lack of creativity for a while now while western makets are coming up with all sorts of superwicked Indie-games and also very nice AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption or Skyrim. I’d just love to see a completely different take on a Nintendo franchise for once and I’d say it’d could work to get some of the lost players back to join the N-Train. At least it would be better than promoting Bayonetta 2 for 2 years as the major reason for core-gamers to buy a Nintendo system. Damn, E3 can’t come soon enough. Just wanna be sure my expectations are low enough. Zorpix Metroid Prime Hunters U please >..> I need that online gameplay, it was so good C.S. Bailey Bayonetta 2 should also be a sight when it releases. matthew garcia Doesn’t look that much better then the 1st one on Xbox360 Alejandro A After watching the comparison videos I could tell the difference. Obviously there is a similar art style but the textures and shadows are better and there’s a lot more stuff going on in the backgrounds. I guess it’s relative to what constitutes as a considerable degree of improvement though. val berger 60fps, 1080p. That’s the difference. sharlo galmo Hahahaha are you serious? You need glasses dude, Bayonetta 2 is waaaaaay better, so much happening on the back ground. The P360 version compare with the WiiU version, is like compare a PS360 game with a Wii game….. 504HotBoy Man some of these dudes on here are bias, hypocrites and have double standards. I speak on Infamous: Second Son not looking too much better than a PS3 game and I get attacked. Funny thing is I own the game and see it in motion with my own eyes. Not from no videos and screen shots. Played through whole game, seen every inch of it. These same people see a video or screen shot of Bayonetta 2 and X, never seen the game in motion or even a small fraction of the actual game, quick to say it looks no different from a PS3 game. What’s wrong with that picture? Zorpix when it finally gets around to it RyuNoHadouken better hope a third pasrty gets on that, because i bet Zelda will be cartoony again val berger Aouma already mentioned that. I’m not perfectly sure, bu I believe he said something like it’s going to be somewhere on the level of Skyward Sword’s realism. Not chibi like Wind Waker, no gothic-realistic-manga like Twilight Princess. Something in between. Zorpix I hope not. Loved Twilight Princess. RyuNoHadouken me too…I wish they made Zelda U with visuals like the tech demo from a few years ago…they’d be insane not to Ultrasyd Hehe, exactly what I thought when I posted a message, then I saw what you wrote. I’m just curious to know how such a game would look like on Wii U, or maybe how Mario Kart would be on PS4 or XboxOne … Mario Kart has cartoon style graphics, I think this makes a big difference. I don’t think that Nintendo will make something not cartoonish, even for the next Zelda. Project Cars could be a good opportunity to see that, but you know, “lazy 3rd party devs don’t know how to code on Wii U” … such a game would have to come from Nintendo 😀 Maybe Bayonetta 2 ? Zorpix Bayo 2 looks pretty, but all we’ve really had are youtube videos that break quality. I wanna see what it looks like on the system itself. Project cars looks sexy as well Holotaku One one hand, I’m really happy they’re trying their best to provide good looking games. Nintendo have always been great with polish in their games, and being able to see that magnificent polish in HD is truly a godsend. On the other hand, if this game really is running in 720p, which is likely considering all the screenshots we’ve seen up until now have been in that resolution, it’s kind of disappointing that that’s where the Wii U’s capping out at. Don’t get me wrong, MK8 is looking gorgeous from what we’ve seen and I can’t wait to see it in full 60fps with my own eyes. It truly shows that art direction matters more than graphical advancement when it’s able to stand toe-to-toe with games like InFamous: Second Son, but it would definitely benefit from 1080p. matthew garcia You read my mind 504HotBoy I honestly don’t find Infamous:Second Son graphics that great. They just look a tad above PS3 quality. Killzone:Shadow Fall on the other hand, graphics look great! I own both games on PS4, as well as Thief and MGSV: Ground Zero. ShortyStock Are you serious? I watched gameplay videos of Infamous and they must be the best graphics I’ve ever seen. 504HotBoy I’m dead serious. No disrespect to anyone, but my standards are probably a bit higher. Because I haven’t seen or played (as games look far better in motion and actually playing them) a 8th gen game that looks far better than a 7th gen game yet. Maybe The Witcher 3. But back to Infamous, I guess cause it’s a open world sandbox game, it’s not as graphically intensive as I would have imagine from a 8th gen console. Don’t get me wrong, the resolution and lighting are top notch, but the character models, textures, and level of detail aren’t that much better than a PS3 game. Killzone: Shadow Fall is a different story, as it looks fantastic, IMO. Edit Note: A lot of times people get caught up in the hype of these being new consoles(delusional fans and people in denial), that they make them out to be these super consoles when they’re not. I said it before and I’ll say it again 8th gen aint that big a leap over 7th gen. Point blank period! Brandon Check out The Division 504HotBoy The Division doesn’t impress me. The Witcher 3 does. As well as The Order 1886. I just have to see more of them. I’m pretty sure there will be a lot more info at E3. Brandon The Division looks very impressive on par with The Witcher 3, if not better. Im still looking foward to all three games. 504HotBoy Not to me. I have to go back and take another look. Yeah I can’t wait for The Witcher 3. I hope The Order 1886 turns out great, cause I’m really interested in picking it up once it’s released. oontz Infamous looks a lot better than shadow fall. 504HotBoy You must be crazy. You and I are seeing two different things. Killzone has better character models, higher – res textures, better environmental effects, more detailed environments, both have great lightning effects. With all that said none of them still isn’t a large leap over 7th gen. Don’t be a delusional fan. Be honest! Jesus Eduardo Lara Ortiz Mario Kart 8 does run at 1080p 60FPS, even while 2 persons splitscreen. It goes down to 720p when it’s 3-4 splitscreen. mario54671 No, that is NOT confirmed! Nobody from Nintendo confirmed this, and so far, all of their screenshots are ONLY 1280×720. They’ve been using the vague “HD” term rather than “1080p,” and the fact that other games, like Wind Waker HD (a game that really isn’t that far removed from the original GCN game, minus the bloom lighting and the 1080p resolution) LAG in 1080p (and this is at 30fps, keep in mind) is a huge indicator that this game is most likely not running in 1080p. And where on earth did you hear about the resolution changing when you added more than 2 players? I’ve heard no such thing. What I HAVE heard is that the FRAME RATE goes down to 30fps. You likely heard this from someone who was talking straight out of his ass. So far, based on everything they’ve shown us, the game runs in 720p at 60fps in 1-2 players and 720p@30ps with 3-4 players. Yes, this isn’t confirmed either, but I’d rather be pessimistic about this than lie to myself and then call it “Nintendo’s fault” when they finally admit the game is 720p/60fps. No false hope, no disappointment. Daniel Carvalho The game probably runs at 1080p, but Nintendo never makes a video with a quality above 720p. Just check some videos from Nintend0mination on Youtube (I recommend Monster Hunter 3G HD/Ultimate) and then compare to its Nintendo Direct equivalent: Nintend0mination’s gameplay videos have an amazing quality of 1080p, while Nintendo’s gameplay footage runs at 720p (a bit lower than that, actually). I don’t know why they do that, seeing how this is their first HD console and they should be showing its power to run 1080p at 60fps whenever they can, but rest assured, Mario Kart 8 will be natively 1080p! Gamerrr72 Well Yabuki says the Wii U was pushed to its limits BUT had a lot potential left. So which one is it? I think it’s too early in it’s life cycle to know the limits of the Wii U. Nonetheless, MK8 is an awesome showcase of the power and potential of the Wii U. Hopefully, it entices other developers to step in and step up. Chris Orr He means that they used 100 percent of its hardware, however it may (most likely) didn’t use this in the most efficient way. If the game was created using the least consuming and most efficient method it may have only used like 75% of the full power, thus allowing for improvements of 25%…. I am not 100 percent sure if this is true because I do not fully understand the creation of games and such, but from what i’ve read and heard about it, this would be true. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about this. Thanks Gamerrr72 Ahh, so that basically used all its hardware resources, but may be not to their fullest potential. Which still leads me to believe there’s some potential left. Thanks for clarifying. Somebody I’m pretty sure the next Zelda or Metroid can push the Wii U even more! 😀 Mario Don’t forget X. flclfool Yah, don’t care as much for this Legend of Zelda Warriors… I want a REAL Legend of Zelda game though 🙂 val berger depends. Zelda doesn’t necessarily have to run on 60fps, and maybe they’re gonna ditch those 1080p too so sure it will have better visuals. A racing game has different demands. Mario Kart 8 is said to run at 60fps, 1080p EVEN in 2Player split screen. thats insane if you’re asking me. mario54671 The 1080p bit isn’t confirmed. That was just something ONE article said (and they didn’t say “native” or “upscaled,” they merely said “1080p”). Right here, Nintendo’s saying “HD at 60fps.” They’re not specifying which HD because… the game runs at 720p. All the screenshots are 720p, and they’ve been very vague by using the term “HD” rather than proudly confirming it like with Wind Waker HD, where they proudly showed us 1920×1080 screenshots and specifically stated “rendered in 1080p.” Ultrasyd Yes, you are right. Wait and see … Mario …WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT VISUALS WHEN WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS HOW A GAME PLAYS OUT!? Ultrasyd Maybe because the title here is : “Mario Kart 8 pushed Wii U to its limits”. I guess it’s talking about technics and visuals ? Or by ” I suspect there are more ways to make use of its capabilities that we haven’t even imagined” do they mean “WE COULD PUT MORE GAMEPLAY IN YOUR GAMPLAY, like purple shells and 16 items in one” ? A game = work of several people. It’s gameplay + MUSIC + GRAPHICS + ART. I like to enjoy every aspect of this media. I know how this game plays out, it’s Mario Kart. And I enjoy the fact that it looks better than the Wii one. Mario Then why is everyone talking like if the visuals are the only best thing in this game!? Ultrasyd Well, the gameplay of Mario Kart hasn’t changed a lot. We all know what it is about. The visuals are pretty cool and a big step forward compared to the previous one. I think it’s why many people are talking about it. Personally, I watch the direct very often and I’m also excited about the video sharing and the fact that you can do something against the blue shell 😀 Mario Ahh… True. I can’t deny that it is the most visually impresssive Mario kart game ever. But come on, to say that 3D world isn’t is just dumb. I know that compared to Mario kart 8, the latter is more visually stunning. But that doesn’t stop 3D world from being amazing regardless! Also, 3D world’s multiplayer isn’t mediocre! It’s actually very fun playing as 4 people in the living room you know. Ultrasyd Yeah, the game is fun. Sadly, I don’t have enough people willing to play it with me 😀 So I finished it mostly with my brother, and my wife helped a bit. The game was great, a bit déjà-vu (3D land). For the graphics, then it’s just a question of personnal judgment. It looks good but I found it pretty simple, just my opinion. I don’t regret buying it of course ! I was just a bit surprised and “worried” to see “only 720p” from Nintendo, over the past few months . But with all the multiplayer action, it makes sense yes 🙂 Mario Then we understand each other. 🙂 val berger because that’s not what really matters. Stuff should look good. I’m not ashamed to admit, I love games that look good. Doesn’t need to be some 500million dollar production. I loved how Journey looked. Or how FZero GX looked back in the day. Or Mario 64. Or….many other games. Visuals aren’t just about art-style, they are what makes you look at a game and think ‘I wanna try that out immediately ‘ I know, this is a Nintendo community featuring a system that doesn’t sport the high end-hardware so people need to be cautious about worshipping great visuals. But I say WiiU’s hardware is absolutely good enough to deliver one hell of great visuals because it’s not really about graphics processing units and other hardware bullshit, it’s about the designer’s creativity. Metroid Prime still is an amazing looking game, just because Retro knew how to make the best out of that hardwares limitations. And that’s what I expect from great game productions. They don’t necessarily need to be the new milestone of performance or Polycounts but I love to see my jaw getting dropped by cool ideas. Like Super Mario Galaxy. Or Portal. Or… many others 😉 Mario As long as they play great, I’m finne with that. 🙂 val berger me too. It’s always a matter of what you as a player put in focus, but if you are taking a step back then you’ll realise that certain aspects need to work together for the full experience. I personally also love playing some SNES classic but even that doesn’t mean that I don’t care about graphics as SNES classics also have very good graphicdesigns. Their quality is something completely different compared to today’s games, but the atmosphere when playing stuff like Yoshi’s island isn’t just achieved through good gameplay but also through amazing audiovisual design. And all those people claiming graphics are completely worthless need to learn the value of those designers work, no matter if it’s some pixelart-indie game or a 100million $ production. Mario Exactly. val berger mmmh I’ve been afraid of exactly this for the whole time. Just read stuff like this http://mii-gamer.com/2014/05/05/mario-kart-8-1080p-60fps-says-eurogamer/ and I guess I wanted it to believe. But I’ve been suspicious about this as Nintendo never mentioned something concrete. Man, why can’t they just move towards 1080p. After getting used to how great stuff like Rayman and Wind Waker does look like, I don’t wanna switch between 720p and 1080p back and forth the whole time. How comes that nearly 8 years after the introduction to HD capable consoles, 1080p still isn’t an industry standard? They could also render their stuff in SD to save even more resources. And especially games like News Super Mario Bros U, where much stuff is going on in Multiplayer, it would have been a better experience over all. Ultrasyd I agree with you. On games like Mario, I don’t see why they didn’t make it 1080. People talk about “early dev kits”, but Rayman was made before Mario 3D World. I think that 1080p does make a big difference. After playing Assssin’s Creed IV on PS4 (1080p, consistent 30 fps) and comparing to my Wii U version, the 1st one is much better. But even the PS4 doesn’t deliver 1080p and 60 fps on all games (http://www.senscritique.com/liste/PS4_One_et_la_promesse_des_1080p_60_FPS/356617). I’d be happy if the next Zelda is 1080p and 30 fps 🙂 Rayman was a fantastic experience. Windwaker HD is absolutly gorgeous but I think it’s “only” 30 fps, and it has some framerate drop btw. mario54671 Super Mario 3D World had to severely scale back its visuals because they made the decision to include multiplayer. Aside from the fact that you can have up to four people with four different characters on screen, they also had to make sure those four characters could ALL get the Double Cherry item (up to five of them), meaning up to 20 characters running around at the same time… WHILE maintaining a solid 60fps without lag. This is mainly why the game’s visuals don’t really push the Wii U the same way Galaxy’s visuals did with Wii. Galaxy was designed to be a single player game, 3D World had to compromise in A LOT of areas all thanks to the stupid multiplayer. (You can get a sense of my feelings on this game’s shortcomings all relating to the compromises thanks to the local multiplayer) As for New Super Mario Bros. U… well I guess they really wanted the game to be out by the launch date and didn’t wanna bother with optimization at this point. And because 60fps matters more than resolution. Also, again, you have four players on screen… there’s a huge compromise with the local multiplayer, so they have to play it safe. Ultrasyd Yes, maybe the multiplayer… I was thinking “as those games don’t have something like a splitscreen, does it make a big difference if 1 or 4 players are moving on the same screen ?”, but yeah, it’s more like 20 players sometimes ! mario54671 Well yeah, and Mario Kart 8 has to actually scale down the frame rate in 3-4 player mode just to keep the same visual quality… because they’re far more advanced. 3D World tries to maintain the same solid visuals with the consistent performance. If you notice, when you get five Double Cherry characters on screen, the character shadows become regular circles underneath them, not realistic-looking shadows mirroring the characters. Again, a compromise. If this were a game DESIGNED to be single player by default from the ground up for Wii U, we’d see an entirely different beast. Not only would it be visually stunning (and would actually IMPRESS people), but we’d also get better integration of the Wii U GamePad, because they wouldn’t be concerned with this “family gaming” shit and would focus their efforts on playing single player with JUST the GamePad. Ultrasyd You got a point for the gamepad greengecko007 Yeah, compromising that much of the game just for a mediocre local multiplayer experience seems like a waste. I still enjoyed the game, but it shows obvious areas that should have been better. Thedude3445 Mediocre? Damn, man. That was the most fun local multiplayer I’ve had in ages, and definitely better than any of the New Super Mario Bros. games because it was possible to play the game without accidentally killing everyone else. greengecko007 Really? I found it to be quite easy to kill everyone else. The potted piranha plants and cannon hats picked up by the player attack friendly players and damage them. Even worse, running, attacking, and picking up/throwing actions are all mapped to the same button. There’s nothing like trying to attack an enemy and ending up throwing your friend off of a cliff because 3D World’s levels are all floating environments. Additionally, the levels in the game were clearly not designed for multiplayer, despite offering it. Depth perception is an important concept in 3D platformers, but the camera can not be adjusted at all in multiplayer. Players who respawn often come back over pits or chasms, and levels like Cosmic Cannon Cluster, whose gameplay is centered around the cannon hats, are pure chaos in multiplayer. Upon reaching the checkpoint in Cosmic Cannon Cluster, there are only 2 cannon hats available, but the cannon hat is required in order to progress through the level as you need to shoot the blocks to correct the track. Having only 2 hats available but a possible player number of 4 already should wave flags, but combine that with the fact that the cannon shots damage friendly players and you have a level that is near impossible in multiplayer. I played this level with only 1 friend, and we had to repeatedly suicide because we would lose our cannon hats and have no way to progress through the level. Super Mario 3D World’s multiplayer only appeals to people who love chaos and think that their friends falling into pits and repeated deaths are funny. Thedude3445 I had a lot less chaos happening with my friends when we played it as the 2D ones, but I do have to admit the chaos is still really fun. However, I’m looking forward much more to the next 3D Mario solo game. Super Mario Galaxy utterly blew the world away twice in a row, and while the 3D Land/World games are nice as throwbacks, I want something that can be as revolutionary and unique as Galaxy or Sunshine. And I hope that game is revealed at E3 (and releases in Late 2015, not this year). Liam This is not quite true. Because of the way GPUs are set up, rendering multiple of the same model is much faster than rendering several different kinds of model – even if its the same total poly’s. mario54671 Even if that were true, the point still stands: they had to scale back the visuals to worry about four independent characters on screen. There was not only a compromise in the visuals, but Nintendo couldn’t use the GamePad to its full potential because they had to make it compatible with three other players. val berger It’s always depending of the size of the TV. So I can understand that, looking at statistics of the average Screen size, developers are going for 720p because they know most of their target audience won’t mind. And they might be right. Still, pleasing those who are into tech-geek-nerd-madness shouldn’t be wrong at all, right? 🙂 It’s always difficult to say what’s more important. fps or resolution? I’d say fps, as this really changes the whole gameplay dynamic. Just look at W101. Still, being able to see single pixels of 720p just tears down the whole impression. I guess I gotta live with it as 720p will be around for quite some more time. matt It’s called choice m8 they choose the target from the start it’s not a test on how powerful your hardware is on every game you do know this right….and for the record Mario3DWorld smashes Knack to pieces in graphics effects all day long. Jonathan George Anaya Anything below 60fps is unacceptable. It HINDERS CONTROL. Platformers, Racing, Fighters, Twitch Shooters…. Zelda U should be 60 fps, as well. They can make it 1080iTP (like Killzone) for all I care. The up converters do they job to fit any 1080p display and the naked eye cannot see the difference. Welliam Hung And yet you ride games like Dead Risings nuts which is 720p and low 20FPS ? You contradict yourself. You = MIDGET TROLL mario54671 It still isn’t standard even with the PS4/Xbox One (PS4 is less of a culprit though). Rayman wasn’t developed by Nintendo, but Wind Waker was. However, Wind Waker was really pushing the Wii U, it seems. Aside from the fact that it wasn’t exactly visually demanding (same character models and environments from the GCN game, just with updated textures, even the polygon count looks nearly identical), it just got a bloom lighting effect and was upgraded to 1920×1080 resolution. But even Wind Waker lags quite a bit in certain areas when you’re in the open sea. (Lags BELOW 30fps) With this in mind, I have no idea why people assumed Mario Kart 8, one of the most visually demanding games on the Wii U, would be running in the same resolution a GameCube remake has been struggling with AND run at double the frame rate. It’s just asinine. I mean, for their first go at HD, I do give Nintendo credit in that they’re catching on rather quickly (sadly not quick enough for gamers). However, 1080p resolution won’t really be a thing on the Wii U unless they really scale back the visual quality, rather like the new Super Smash Bros. on Wii U which DOES have native 1080p screenshots, indicating that this game DOES run in 1080p. val berger People are assuming this because they want it to be true (just look at me ;D ) The thing is, that rendering Wind Waker HD in 1080p shouldn’t be such a hard task for the WiiU hardware in general, so I’m assuming Nintendo just didn’t the best job porting that game. Actually it still is what it is – a port, right? Sure, GCN also had PowerPC architecture, still it’s not like Wind Waker was built to run on the WiiU and Nintendo did that port within 6 month, which indicates they didn’t went too deep into getting the best out of it. Although I guess for 6 months of work, they actually did make the best of it, as it’s quite a very nice retake on that original game. I just don’t really think it’s a perfect example of WiiU’s 1080p-capabilities. Sure, if Mario Kart 8 doesn’t run at 1080p, then there won’t be any better demonstration, but I won’t give up hope that we’re gonna see some games that prove better. If MK8 really isn’t running at 1080p then any hopes Bayonetta 2 or X are doing so should be immediately given up. Ultrasyd Or maybe in a few years. mario54671 Yeah, maybe. Here’s the thing, though. Super Mario 3D World was only in development for about a year (maybe a little longer). If it takes just over a year to get something like that done, then 6 months for a remake of a GameCube game seems like PLENTY of time. val berger Where did you get that info of about 1year development? Not that I think it’s impossible, I just have my troubles imagining that. Plus a port of an old game VS creation of something new still is something different. Not completely different, so I wouldn’t say you’re wrong, but 6 months for creating that whole WW HD experience is quite good. mario54671 The EAD Tokyo guys said the game began development sometime around mid-2012. In one year, they managed to get what was presented at E3 finished… and then they added the final touches in the coming months. Naturally, the game’s usually complete about one to three months before it hits stores, so they must’ve finalized the game not long before they showed us that second trailer. So it was a bit over a year. (The much “deeper” 3D Marios like Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy took about two years or slightly more to make. Galaxy 2 took about the same time as 3D World… except Galaxy 2 already had the basis of the original Galaxy to work with, so it was just several refinements and new levels. But yes, the longer development time really does show in these cases.) Let’s not forget, though, 3D World is heavily based on 3D Land. And MANY of the ideas in 3D World could’ve originated in 3D Land, but were never implemented because the team was rushed to get the game out before the end of 2011 (due to the 2011 major earthquakes in Japan, notice how there are practically no boss battles in 3D Land. Just Boom Boom, False Bowser, and Pom Pom). But it’s not like they really had to create a new structure of 3D Mario or anything… the concept was already conceived in a 3DS game. They just took a bit longer to likely polish it up and upgrade the graphics, change some mechanics around, add the cat suit, and create more levels (which, again, could’ve already been planned for 3D Land). Meanwhile, 6 months for a GameCube game… a game that was already finished a decade earlier, but just needed some slight modifications (changing the fetch quest at the end and adding the faster sailing, and a bump in resolution with some bloom effects)… yes that seems like plenty of time. Sure, one could throw in the factors of how efficient the team is working on a game, and other things… for example most Zelda games usually take about 3 years to develop. Twilight Princess took about three years, A Link Between Worlds took the same amount of time… but Skyward Sword took much longer, 5 years of development. (This could’ve been because if the game began development in 2006, they had to go back and re-engineer everything once they came out with the MotionPlus technology a few years into the Wii lifecycle along with other difficulties) However, the point that I’m getting at is that 6 months could be plenty of time. Especially for a game that doesn’t require much, if any, brainstorming, as the brainstorming was done back in the early 2000s. val berger thanks for the intel, in this case they really did an amazing job on 3D World no matter how many ideas, assets or whatever they already had. It’s not impossible to create a huge game within 1,5 years. publishers like ubisoft, ea and warner bros are throwing out stuff like that all the time. but looking at the insane amount of creativity and polished gameplay in 3D world really surprises me to hear of such a short production time. And reviews prove me right, it’s quite some achievement. having some concepts from 3D land (or a possible 3D Land 2) left to work into that game is understood, but the sheer amount of ideas seen there just is more than that. Actually I’ve played most stages in that game over and over again with two players and from all of those zillions of levels we barely experienced any of them to not be fun at all. Ok, this is me falling back into writing loveletters about that game again. mario54671 Well, it’s not up my alley. I have a much different take (still stems from my overall disappointment of the game which started since they originally unveiled it almost a year ago). Not that it’s a bad game and that I DIDN’T enjoy it, but it’s not what I’m looking for in a 3D Mario game…at all. I’m not looking to be impressed by a game because it took them little time to make it. I just want a groundbreaking experience. Something past Mario games were always known for. Deep, groundbreaking experiences that present us something we REALLY haven’t seen before while also invoking a childlike wonder. The last time they’ve truly done this was the original Super Mario Galaxy in 2007. (I’m speaking specifically about the core Mario series, not the RPG/party/kart games) With each new installment they used to always do something unique, and you were always able to tell someone what was specifically unique about that game. Super Mario World? Yoshi. Super Mario 64? Mario in true 3D! Super Mario Sunshine? Tropical levels and FLUDD’s mechanics. Super Mario Galaxy? Galactic setting and shifts in gravity. Super Mario Galaxy 2? Well… just more of the latter. Super Mario 3D Land? Well… it controls like Galaxy 2, and the levels play out similarly, though without the space setting… but the camera is limited and it’s got a lot of 2D Mario fused with it. Super Mario 3D World? More of the latter except with MORE limiting controls (8-directional movement)… but I guess it looks pretty? I don’t want them to just make a “fun” game. I want them to strive for more. This isn’t too much to ask for… they used to always do it with Mario! But one thing I DID notice was this: Mario DID benefit from being released so sporadically. That way people could get genuinely excited for a new Mario, not fatigued because they’ve been over saturated with his games. But they also benefitted from LONGER development time. Super Mario World took three years to make with just 17 staff members. Super Mario 64 took about 2 years, but this was because they had a larger team. Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy also took about 2 years. I don’t want them to speed run through development. I want them to make another game that is NOT nostalgia-based, something that genuinely shakes up the series (Sorry, but making Peach playable didn’t change much… all it did was make them replace her with seven fairies… so the narrative was still the same). I LIKED the fact that Super Mario Sunshine did not rely on old Mario to stand on its own two feet. It actually almost forgot about everything established prior and relied on its OWN material. Hence, although people found it too much of a departure back in the day, its legacy speaks for itself, as it drew TONS of inspiration for all the spinoff games, like the RPGs and the party games. And for god’s sake, stop this 2D/3D fusion. 3D Mario benefitted from the free camera controls… when you were actually able to see where you were going NOT in an isometric view, and it also benefitted from having real living and breathing worlds. Not these random floating obstacle courses that feel like coldly calculated levels with some mean guy supervising it with his hands folded saying, “THIS IS ALL YOU GET, EXPLORE WITH WHAT WE GIVE YOU.” Where’s the sense of wonder in these levels? I can’t find it. We already have a modern 2D Mario series for those peasants who can’t move on. (And clearly, based on the results, they shouldn’t even continue making these) Mario, for the sake of being with the times, should be 3D. Mario revolutionized the genre by jumping into 3D in 1996… why go backwards and totally throw that out the window? I don’t MIND when they throw in a few references here and there. Super Mario 64 struck the perfect balance of using old ideas but mixing them together with new ones in unique ways. The soundtrack (the last Mario score to be fully done by Koji Kondo) was able to cleverly use old source material while not RELYING on it. I want them to further establish what they started with Mario 64 and Sunshine. (Galaxy started the whole “linear” movement, so I don’t include it here) I want them to make a free-roaming 3D game. Not one that gives you levels that you can technically move in three dimensions, but have you on such a tight leash because you’re not given much to do with in these levels, and you only have so much time to do so. Rant over. val berger I understand your points and I also understand why people were disappointed by 3D World. I personally believe that Nintendo has been working on some Galaxy/sunshine/64-style Mario for quite some more time and needed some other 3D mario to get the WiiU rolling, that’s why I’m not too disappointed as I’m so sure there’s still more to come. But if there’s one thing I completely disagree with you, then it’s the unique pitch of this game. Super Mario 3D World is one of the greatest Multiplayer experiences I’ve ever had. It really stands out by delivering one hell of an insanely well balanced and still motivating experience for both experienced players as well as newcomers. I’ve played through the game and collected so much stuff together with my girlfriend for whom this game was like the first jump’n run since mario land on the gameboy and who really never got into controlling stuff with analog sticks and joypads and she loved it and actually finished the final bossfight while I never felt frustrated and always had stuff that kept me going. It’s just an amazing achievement to create a game that manages to work for different players that well. for me, this game clearly achieved what mario kart did somewhere in the nineties. Also had several 4player sessions and suddenly 5 hours were over. Sure if you see that game as a 1player experience your points may apply but I don’t see Mario Kart as a single player game either and 3D World never really got promoted as being one. Still, while Nintendo hasn’t really good at selling anything last year, they especially failed to sell this game as something like Zelda Four Swords for Mario games. Something that’s just not supposed to be played alone. Offline Coop might not hit the biggest target audience, but for those who are into it, it’s like pure gold. So I’d just treat it as what it is, a perfect convergence of partygames and jump’n runs and wait a little bit more for that deep mario jump’n run experience. mario54671 The problem is, they picked the worst possible time to do one of these “Zelda: Four Swords” Mario games. Mario was in DESPERATE need of a major shakeup. We had New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 (a fantastic sequel… but it’s still a direct sequel nonetheless that does nothing substantial to the franchise as a whole), Super Mario 3D Land (not a direct sequel, but it’s major selling point is an idea from SMB3… so it’s not a unique game AT ALL), New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U… after this hoard of direct sequels… and after SO MANY of them, we were kind of hoping for a major shakeup… not yet ANOTHER addition to this. Especially at a time where they had a system that wasn’t selling… gee, I wonder why 3D World didn’t exactly take off the way they wanted it to. The 2D Mario fans don’t want it, and neither do the 3D Mario fans. It was a nice experiment when they tried this 2D/3D Mario fusion on 3DS, but it isn’t something that we wanted again… especially for their HD platform which is capable of so much more. Trying new things and making it all about “fun”? Fine. But when the series is in desperate need of a major game changer and when the platform is in desperate need of something that REALLY makes people turn heads… sorry, 3D World doesn’t cut it. That’s why it only sold 2 million copies so far. It sold on 3DS, but the 2D/3D hybrid overstayed its welcome, rather like New Super Mario Bros. val berger one little detail: I wouldn’t say Galaxy started that linear movement as it initially came up with those retro-bonus levels in sunshine which got very popular so Nintendo decided to move into that direction. I don’t really know what exactly happened to those action-adventure-esque Jump&runs ever since but I guess I miss them too although I didn’t like Sunshine too much. matt It is running at 1080p/60fps as confirmed by almost every site sinse last week m8 only in 3/4 player mode you get 30fps ?? get a life guys Knack is defo crap in comparison i know that in fact Knack is ps2 level……haha val berger don’t know why people keep bringing Knack in. it’s a mediocre game from the first generation of PS4 games versus a Nintendo game that comes 1,5 years after the system’s launch. You can compare Knack to New Super Mario Bros U if you’re feeling happy about that but in the end, no one really cares about Knack. matt That shut you up didn’t it…..Knack is crap yes you can put Mario 3D WORLD next to it and it’s like looking at a high end pc game compared to a ps2 game,Mariokart8 looks way better than both. val berger need to play mk8 to be sure about that. I felt 3DW to look as good as it had to look like. means there was never a point in that game that made me ask for more. For what I’ve seen I’d say same goes for MK8 but as it’s a different genre its more depending on fast dynamic and more characters on screen which may end up giving a better impression in terms of iots visuals. but putting mk8 next to sm3dw i’d say both may do one hell of a great job. matt Listen m8 that was a 6 month in development game Windwaker HD plus it’s just a remake i own it they didn’t need to showcase it in 1080p/60fps end of,Mariokart8 looks gorgeous and keeps up with any ps4 game and it’s 1080p native 60fps……get used to it Nintendo are saying there is still lots left. You do realise it’s choice wether the devs think a certain game needs all the bells and whistles ??? mario54671 *facepalm* That link is not proof! That’s just a reiteration of ONE article (Eurogamer) that made the claim that it’s “1080p/60fps” but didn’t actually prove it. There is still no official confirmation, so my recommendation? (Take it or just continue to live in denial) Stop blindly believing what *some random journalist who is no smarter than you* claimed without any proof. Also, Wind Waker HD doesn’t run at 1080p/60fps… it runs at 1080p/30fps… BARELY. The game still lags in many areas and struggles to play on Wii U at 30fps. What makes you think that one of the best looking Wii U games can handle the same resolution at DOUBLE the frame rate? matt Listen please go away you don’t listen to anyone except Sony when they said ps3 would be 1080P/60FPS ?? yeah ok the ps3 did 25fps at 576p on most games, the patcher said the same thing with ps4 and he basically licks Sony’s balls,go play some 720p Knack and knack off. Mercurio2054 you’re wrong, they don’t work with the bugs and lag, they just upgrade some graphics, textures and resolution, the code is the same as the Game Cube and if you play the game on GC it will lag in the same places than wiiu. screenshots doesn’t mean nothing. it’s like @val berger says, it was a quick port. mario54671 Exactly… but why is it that a GAMECUBE game is putting up such a fight when being rendered in 1080p with hardly any visual improvements? Mario Kart 8 isn’t 1080p, but Wind Waker actually is, and yes, Nintendo DID put out corporate screenshots of Wind Waker HD, and they were 1080p from the beginning. Smash Bros.? They’ve been proudly putting out 1080p screenshots of that game, too. But all of their other games that were rendered in 720p? (Like 3D World, Pikmin 3) They use the vague term “HD” and put out 1280×720 screenshots and THEN confirm it around the time of launch “oh yeah, it’s native 720p.” They did this with EVERY GAME ON WII U. Screenshots DO mean something. matt Please tell me your point ?? ps4 has about 2 games out now that are full HD if I’m not mistaken…..WiiU has around 12 if you count Indie games as well. mario54671 I don’t care what the PS4 or Xbox One have, I don’t own either one of those, I own a Wii U only. So other 8th generation consoles are irrelevant to me. Gamnesia is just repeating what Eurogamer said, and… are you really going to quote a message board as a citation of proof? That message board is… once again… going back to the same Eurogamer article which wrote the vague claim without any proof. Just guesswork that got all the fans riled up. I’m not saying 720p is a horrible thing, as Mario Kart 8 IS a graphically demanding game, I’m just saying it is VERY inconsistent with the Wii U’s capabilities given that the games that DO run in 1080p (Rayman Legends, Wind Waker HD, Super Smash Bros.) are not incredibly graphically demanding games, and especially in the case of Wind Waker, it STRUGGLES to output a steady 30fps in 1080p. I’m fine with 720p at 60fps. My TV isn’t large, so from a distance, it’s decent enough (although, in the era where smartphones run in 1080p, it’s a bit sad, although one could say this about all three consoles, and this is Nintendo’s first go at HD, so not bad). I just want people to stop getting their hopes up on something that’s unconfirmed. I’m going to stick with my claim that it’s native 720p. Based on everything I’ve gathered, and all the indications based on past games, I think it’s native 720p. When Nintendo finally confirms this, I won’t be disappointed. And if they happen to confirm it REALLY does render in 1080p, then fine, that’s even better. YOU, on the other hand, are expecting 1080p from this game based on groundless rumors. So if Nintendo confirms it’s 720p, you’re going to be disappointed because anything other than 1080p is not what you expected. Sorry, but if this makes me pessimistic, so be it. I’d rather not get my hopes up for rumors that have no basis. Daniel Gonzalez Lol. You’re wasting your time with most people on here. It’s easier to talk to those who get it and aren’t so uppity. The less you acknowledge them, the better. mario54671 Some of the guys here are reasonable and were having a nice discussion. It’s the other guys that automatically equate “Nintendo enthusiast who looks at things objectively” with “UR A FANBOY LOLOLOL U LIKE PS4 AND LITTLE BOY ANUS” Daniel Gonzalez Hahaha….yeah I get that a lot. I know a few posters in particular who are like that. The usual broken record syndrome as always. It’s a shame you can’t have a decent discussion without someone butting in and trying to cause an argument. Ah well. As I said, I barely pay attention to those sour grapes. I look forward to a lot of games on the Wii U eventually, but right now, I’m happy with my PS4 and find it more appealing atm. If that makes me a fanboy, so be it. Lol. mario54671 You know what’s funny, I don’t even own a PS4/Xbox One! I ONLY own a Wii U! I’m doubtful on whether one graphically demanding games natively renders in 1080p, and automatically I hate the Wii U and love a console I don’t own? I played Super Mario 3D World on my TV. It was native 720p upscaled. From a distance, it wasn’t so bad. I had been playing so much Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 480p on my television and it looked like ass, so anything clearer was a blessing. Sure, when I played Wind Waker HD, and it ran pixel per pixel, it looked glorious, but… I’m content with 720p in Mario Kart 8 given how it looks. I just hate when people get their hopes up on rumors that are based on… NOTHING… and then Nintendo comes out and tells the whole truth, and then they claim Nintendo has “betrayed” or “lied” to them because they kept believing stupid rumors. Or they’re “disappointed” because they expected 1080p, again, based on rumors that aren’t based on anything! Just excited journalists! Daniel Gonzalez “You know what’s funny, I don’t even own a PS4/Xbox One! I ONLY own a Wii U! I’m doubtful on whether one graphically demanding games natively renders in 1080p, and automatically I hate the Wii U and love a console I don’t own?” I don’t own a Wii U myself as I go over on weekends to my cousin’s house and game on the Wii U. I do however, own a PS4. I could care less if it ran 720 or 1080. Either way, the games look good to me, and more importantly, gameplay. I never pay attention to rumors. Of course somehow, if I’m criticizing the Wii U, I must hate it. Fanboys will be fanboys. “I just hate when people get their hopes up on rumors that are based on… NOTHING… and then Nintendo comes out and tells the whole truth, and then they claim Nintendo has “betrayed” or “lied” to them because they kept believing stupid rumors. Or they’re “disappointed” because they expected 1080p, again, based on rumors that aren’t based on anything! Just excited journalists!” Indeed. People believe too much in what they read, and when it’s discovered that the news was false, they want someone’s head. Always take things with a grain of salt. Less disappointments, the better off people are. I know how ya feel man, I get this from plenty of people. From experiences, it’s better to leave them be and take the time you put in to those who matter to you. Works for me. 🙂 matt Why does the gaming media say it’s the best HD remake to date on any HD console ??? Hmmm Nope.avi You forgot one major detail for Wind Waker: Everything, including the grass, had it’s own soft shadows! And the grass cast shadows on other grass! These are very demanding graphics effects. RyuNoHadouken You have no idea what you’re talking about…WW is cel shaded…there are no polygons mario54671 *facepalm* There are 3D character models and building models. These character models are made of POLYGONS. matt It’s confirmed 1080p native on IGN and lots of big sites are you in denial……. mario54671 No, a lot of big sites are merely stating it but aren’t providing any proof of this. They’re all just saying the same thing Eurogamer said without any proof. How about you give me a link with EVIDENCE (a CONVINCING confirmation, not just a link of some guy somewhere saying 1080p, or, preferably, a statement from Nintendo) that the game renders in 1080p, and I’ll believe you. matt What is this proof u talk of it’s confirmed by everyone that’s your proof the final build was shown last week DONE. matt Your pissing me off kid seriously do1 now…..Mariokart8 just like the other 12 games is Full HD unlike ps4 FINAL fuck off. http://www.gamnesia.com/news/mario-kart-8-runs-in-1080p-60fps-even-during-two-player-split-screen mario54671 Good god, calm yourself. You decided to comment on this thread, why are you telling ME to fuck off? I own a Wii U, I don’t know why you’re bringing up the PS4. I am a Nintendo enthusiast, but I see things objectively, and OBJECTIVELY, Mario Kart 8 does not render in 1080p. And I’m sorry, but your links are not proof. One article mentioning “1080p” (that Gamnesia article you sent me is just reiterating the claim Eurogamer made, that’s not proof, that’s just saying “It’s 1080p because this one guy said so”) isn’t proof. If you can either point me to Nintendo’s site where they specifically tell us that it RENDERS in 1080p, or lead me to a quote from a notable Nintendo executive/manager (like the producer of the Mario Kart series, Hideki Konno, or Miyamoto, or Iwata) THEN I’ll start believing it. I’m not saying I don’t want the game to render in native 1080p, but I’m saying that based on everything they’ve shown us, it’s HIGHLY unlikely that it is, and I’m not going to get my hopes up for something that isn’t confirmed. And you shouldn’t either. Daniel Gonzalez What does the PS4 have to do with the argument of Mario Kart 8? The straw grasping is strong in this comment. Lol. Daniel Gonzalez You’d think they would to put the argument to rest. mario54671 I know, I think I made Matt cry. Daniel Gonzalez Haha. Yeah, people are easily offended here. Soon as you say one thing they can’t stand, they’ll stalk your comments. Ignore those types. Better yet, stick to the forums. There’s far more mature people there than you’ll find here to be honest. 🙂 Daniel Gonzalez There has been no confirmation from Nintendo. Sites so far, are taking a guess. StaticChu Do people even realize that below 40″ in TV size and sitting around 7′-10’+ away from the TV the human eye has a very hard time telling the difference in 720p and 1080p? All these smaller TVs being sold with 1080p are one of the biggest scams going imo. I’m not sure how many gamers are using 40″+ TVs and how far the average person sits from a TV but I think this whole 720p vs 1080p is insane and I wouldn’t bother paying extra for a 1080p TV unless it was 50″+ in size. val berger mh depends on the quality of the TVs picture. I’m playing on a 40″ screen and I can count every pixel on 720p and it gets much better with 1080p. I don’t think 36″ would be completely different. sure, it may not be such a big deal anymore, still I would bother. After playing Wind Waker HD for a while, I really get annoyed by 720p of most other games. And I’m really everything but some geeky-tech-maniac. mario54671 This could be the case with 4KTV, but 1080p and 720p? Are you kidding me? SMARTPHONES have 1080p screens. Everybody laughs at the iPhone screen for being a sub-HD 1136×640 4 inch display… “LOL IT LOOKS SO PIXELATED NOW” Yet… a 32 inch 1080p TV is laughable. Let’s not forget that 4K is already on the way. Let’s not forget that LAPTOPS are now superseding 1080p with laptops like Apple’s MacBook Pro with the Retina display which has a whopping 2880×1800 15 inch display (and there are others out there with even MORE competitive resolutions!), and that 1080p is really just STANDARD now. (Should’ve been standard a long time ago, computer monitors have had it since, oh… I don’t know… 2003?!) “Human eye has a very hard time telling the difference,” my ass. Yeah, I’m sure that’s what people said about 720p televisions when they started making those smaller. “Y WUD U MAKE DAT LOLOLOL U CANT SEE DA PIXELS, 480P/720P IT IS DA SAME THING LOL” 1080p is really just a baby resolution in 2014. Smartphones run 1080p screens, laptops and tablets go well beyond 1080p… but for a “small” TV… it’s a scam? Go back to 2005 where you belong… seriously. StaticChu Of course laptops and smartphones will benefit from higher resolutions, the screen is usually very close to your eyes, so are pc monitors, which will also benefit, sitting within 3ft of a screen makes a big difference. The point I’m trying to make is not that the difference can’t be noticed but that distance from the screen is also an important factor. As for 4k get ready to sit very close to large screens. Paul Craven Regarding the 1080P thing… Since the first announcement, Nintendo has stated that the game will run at 1080P at 60FPS, specifically. This was in several quotes at the last E3 even. Also, the official Nintendo website for Mario Kart 8 specifically says that the game runs at “60 frames per second” at “Full HD”. “Full HD”, by its very definition, is 1080P. And finally, the eShop page for Mario Kart 8 also says, specifically, 1080P. At any rate, just saying that EVERYTHING I’ve heard and read points directly to 1080P, 60FPS. mario54671 Tell me where it says this. Hey, if it says it, I’d love to know. I’m not saying I WOULDN’T want the game to be 1080p/60fps. I’m just saying it’s highly unlikely. But if you can show me exactly where you saw these (I went on the Mario Kart 8 site, but either I wasn’t looking in the right areas or I’m on the wrong site), then I won’t take these 1080p claims with a grain of salt. linkzero65 Yeah… Googs I think the console has some more up it’s sleeves, I doubt this is the best it’ll be able to do. Especially since we’re only 1,5 years into the Wii U’s life. Magnus Gonzalez no, but people will see this headline and believe otherwise. Any great effort on any console in its early stages was said to push the console to its limits. A better way to say that would be to the programmer’s limits. Jeffery02 To be fair, if they lowered the frame rate, then it wouldn’t push the system that far. Not to mention the GamePad. Other developers get lazy and decide to reduce frame rate rather than being efficient. More power has been making people lazy IMO. Games are starting to have more garbage data that they are too lazy to remove as well as calculations that probably don’t do anything just because the system can handle it. Then we wonder why games are so gigabyte heavy and why even apps like YouTube and Hulu+ crash when the system can render full 3D graphics with HD resolution with no problems. T J This is pretty much hitting the nail on the head. Programming courses at U.S. universities are becoming more broad in regards to what they teach (since modern day tech isn’t limited as much by memory cost and efficiency, less time is spent emphasizing it). The field is expanding, so the foundation isn’t as thick as it used to be. Not just for Nintendo’s systems but all platforms. ben I wonder if this site will get regular hits after Mariokart is released.. we may all be too busy. Nathan C. This is why I want Super Mario Galaxy 3. Those games pushed the Wii to its limits, and they ended up looking great in the end. Imagine another entry in 1080p, with crisp HD graphics. Come E3!!! DragonSilths My god, why do people forget, each console gets its own style of Mario game, 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Wii U will not have Galaxy 3 ever. thedeciderU i hope not. nintendo has done a great job reinventing the wheel, and i expect it with wiiu, too. Nathan C. What about 3D Land to 3D World? The 3DS original got a sequel for the Wii U. I don’t see what’s wrong with a Wii game getting a Wii U sequel. :/ DragonSilths That was a handheld and home console. EVERY HOME CONSOLE GETS ITS OWN STYLE MARIO GAME. And Besides part of the name aka having the “3D” in it, there was no similarities between Land and World. greengecko007 Mario Kart 8 looks great, but “pushing the Wii U to it’s limits” is not something I want to be hearing a year and a half into the console’s life. Decker Shado I think it could have been worded better. I presume they mean it in the same way that Gears of War was “using 100% of the Xbox 360’s power.” – They used all the ram, all the cores and all the threads, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement in efficiency. DragonSilths They meant they pushed MK8 to its limit, there is no where to go to make it any better. Wii U cant go past 1080p, cant get past 60fps, looks amazing, so I don’t see what the problem is. Zelda HD for example will use more of the Wii U’s power and potential. Kristian Kouvo Words of wisdom right there. DragonSilths Thank you. ben The issue when something is translated from Japanese to English is we cannot know exactly what was said. Japanese is also a little ambiguous, he probably meant that they did everything they could to make the game the best they could using the Wii U. which is what you would expect them to do with a major franchise. Would you prefer. ” We could of made it better.” HorizonChaser No, I would prefer “We could have made it better”. Perhaps you mean the contraction “could’ve” instead of the improper and confusing verb + preposition “could of”? ben Yeah, It was a school boy error. Well spotted! There corrected it. Thanks for the spot. mario54671 I think, like others stated here, they meant to say that now they’re fully optimizing their games for the Wii U. Unlike the launch titles, which were very conservative visually, these games are pushing the console and really working with all the quirks of the hardware because they spent a lot of time with it. Andrew Gonzalez I had the honor of playing Mario Kart 8 at a private event this weekend and seeing it in person is so different than watching it on youtube. It is a gorgeous looking game. Yeah it looks beautiful streaming it at 30fps on the internet but seeing it run on the console in front of you really shows how capable the wii u is. So even hearing how there’s still a lot of potential left makes me excited for future releases. wiiu4life Props to the Big N in 1.5 years you have been able to achieve what other developers are still struggling to accomplish. People will say the game doesn’t look 1080P but since Nintendo has been quite no one really knows. I myself am hoping that this team has started working with the 3d world team I believe they can create a blue print for how games should be developed. matthew garcia I don’t think they struggle with Wii U. I just think it’s cuz they don’t want to, cuz it’s not gonna make them money. Wii u sales are crap even with great 1st party games The Clockwork Being John Kinsley is right. FOR ONCE Nintendo is advertising something so well. DragonSilths ??? I haven’t seen any MK8 commercials on TV and we are less then 3 weeks away from it. How are they advertising it? Other then us reading these blips there is no advertising. FutureFox I’ve seen zilch. Josie the Sketcher You’ll never know what Nintendo will come up with. They’ve surprised us with how beautiful MK8 looks so I look forward to what they will surprise with us next. Sdudyoy Wow 1080p at 60 frames per second, and it looks awesome, makes me wish I had a HD TV, but honestly I don’t care to much. Bob Wilkerson And still does 60FPS when playing 2 players too. Some people will say the cartoony graphics make that easier but that is not necessarily true.. To make the graphics smooth on a cartoony game can take just as many polygons as it takes on a realistic game. I doubt anyone would argue that a PIXAR CGI movie is any easier to make or takes less power than realistic CGI used in other movies. Decker Shado Indeed. One could argue cartoony graphics may be easier on the ram, as textures don’t “have” to be as complex, still a polygon is a polygon, and running what we clearly see on display in MK8 at 60fps is impressive. Bob Wilkerson And the 60FPS will be very beneficial in such a high paced game.. Decker Shado Ah, yes – I forgot about that. All those years spend being told that a world of brown is hyper-realism… 😉 Bob Wilkerson Don’t forget the gray and dark green Sdudyoy Do you know if it can still run 60FPS online, I doubt that would happen due to connection problems, but it would be cool, and really what does the art style of game graphics matter, why would anyone think that? it doesn’t make a difference on a games graphical style, they can take just as much power, look at Minecraft, that games graphics look very dated, but it still takes a better computer to play, people who think the graphical style of a game makes a difference on FPS, needs to learn more about how video games work. DragonSilths Yes it does, as long as the connection isn’t shitty. Sdudyoy Cool! oontz source? Where has online multiplayer been confirmed to run at 60fps? ben This guy.. I think that as long as you have the wii U connected with a lan cable there should be no technical reason why the game would not run at full spec. The only issue will be lag from players who do not do this and they will just suffer how they have always suffered on every online game, on every system. oontz So no actual confirmation then? Unless that is you work for Nintendo or E.A.D. ben It runs in split screen at 60 fps. Why would they down grade it for online play? What reason could there possibly be? Come on just admit you are trolling. oontz Local multiplayer and online multiplayer are two completely different beasts. Not trolling anyone. Just asking if you had a source to those numbers. No need for us to make assumptions, wouldn’t we prefer to rely on facts from Nintendo? I know I would. ben Facts are important but as Kristian pointed out it is a case of only send a number between the two consoles, it would be much more stressful for the system to host a local multiplayer. 00EpicGamer00 I don’t know if this is helpful or not, but I found this article that’s…pretty good at explaining what it’s like to make online multiplayer for a game. Of course, this has nothing to do with MK8 (I didn’t read the entire thing) but, I figured this might shed a little light on the subject. Sorry if it doesn’t. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/217434/the_ups_and_downs_of_doing_online_.php?print=1 Kristian Kouvo Multiplayer/online mode shares only coordination and points data of the players between consoles so it’s not an excessive resource eater. So the question you got is pretty much invalid to begin with. oontz Thanks for sharing something you have just shown to know nothing about. ben But he is right. Online problems only occur when one player is playing at a vastly slower connection speed than another. Framerate would have no effect on that problem. oontz Ummm, no. Shootdatrupee!… Come on guys, it’s only like another ~15 days, can’t we discuss this after we’ve seen the actual game? ben I get the impression that friend oontz will not be satisfied even if the game is perfect. Edit: which it isnt, because the battle mode is a mess. Shootdatrupee!… Lets hope he can convert that dissatisfaction into something funny like Cinemasins or 64 things wrong with OOT rather than post about it here… Kristian Kouvo The only problem there is the SYNC, not much else. Maybe you should try to study stuff a bit more before flaming here. Online data sharing system is a very common, old stuff. Google it. oontz exactly and getting two people online synced at a constant 60fps is a lot harder than 2 people gaming on the exact same console. Kristian Kouvo Quite amazing logic you got there. So you say two consoles connected online is a heavier task to run two player game than one console drawing the graphics times two. 😀 Oh man… oontz Never said anything about “a heavier task to run two player game than one console drawing the graphics times two” Thanks for putting words in my mouth though. Cheers DragonSilths Quit doubting the damn game. Its just common sense. oontz Not doubting anything… just asking if there was a source. No need to be a bitch about it. DragonSilths Sorry. MK7 was 60fps online, so there really is no reason MK8 wont be. oontz are you comparing a 3ds game with a wiiu game? DragonSilths My point is, they got it to 60fps on the weaker 3DS. So there is -100% chance they weren’t able to do it on the much stronger Wii U. oontz “I doubt anyone would argue that a PIXAR CGI movie is any easier to make or takes less power than realistic CGI used in other movies.” God you are quite the broken record today. We get it… really. MiamiGoon PS4 is not even at the limits and some games are making playable characters look as good as full motion video movies. Wii U which I own is at its limits making a cartoon car game. I mean I will get mario kart 8 loks awesome, but the console is so weak compared to the other 2, dumb decision by nintendo and they are paying with billions $$ in losses. Andrew Gonzalez Except for the PS4 they will be able to push it relatively soon due it’s architecture being very similar to a PC. The PS4 isn’t a complicated jigsaw puzzle like the PS3 was. And it’s not billions in losses, we’re not talking PS3 numbers here. Brandon The ps4 is actually alot more simple to develop for then the ps3, and its still a console so there is still things to learn, and more performance to come. MiamiGoon Yes it is. They just lost another $490+ Million loss for this year. http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/05/10/wii-u-and-3ds-lag-as-nintendo-posts-456-million-op.aspx Add up last year, this one and then next and itll be billions total. They lost money now 3 years in a row. Also, no PS4 will not reach limits so soon. It will keep getting better as it will be able to use DirectX 12 and they will keep tweaking it to get the most out of it. Wii U most devs gave up and dont even make games for it so only Nintendo will keep pushing it. Decker Shado Yes, add up all the losses from Nintendo over the last 3 years, and they almost equal what Sony has lost in the last year alone. Bob Wilkerson And NIntendo still has billions in the bank to help them on the road to recovery. Nintendo could run at a similar deficit for 30+ years oontz Please… that article was already proven false by Nintendo’s own financial reports. Please stop regurgitating false numbers, from a fact-less article. It doesn’t help your argument at all. Rinslowe Reality is they probably could. But not in that static model, which wouldn’t represent reality in any case. But a dynamic model, like the one they have in the real world. Where the 3DS exists to make a profit. And where Wii U is brought to profitability in time. And where hardware is tailor made to suit emerging markets and new generations of hardware is introduced etc.. etc.. All these factors are in play as we speak and yet Nintendo still takes a loss. Their strategies may or may not pay off in future. But some already are. And in that sense – In reality they probably could sustain a slow burn to cashless-ness, all things considered. 🙂 DragonSilths But Sony has lost money for a decade now, literally 10 years back to back they were bleeding money, they went 5 tears in a row with no profits they no longer owe a North American or Japanese HQ. So no, Sony is far worse then Nintendo money wise. Yeah Nintendo isn’t doing great, but honestly 3 years of losses for Nintendo after 30 years of pure profit is laughable to Nintendo. Shootdatrupee!… Sony is a big company…maybe it’s not fair of us to judge it that way… MiamiGoon Wrong. Sony made profit last year. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/10/business/global/10iht-sony10.html?_r=0 Sony was losing money 5 years straight but now is back in profit and Nintendo is the one losing money like crazy now. Also PS4, MMO games, etc will be a great success for Sony over the next few years, so its looking nice for them. Research b4 posting my friend. Shootdatrupee!… Lol what. Sony predicts a loss this year… http://www.bbc.com/news/business-27234511 The profit mentioned in your article was only possible because of currency rates… Just like how Nintendo’s FY2012(?) profit of a measly 7 Billion yen was… Not quite ‘back in profit’ for either companies… I’m almost tempted to say ‘research b4 posting’ but I’ll refrain because I see a rebuttal coming up… Shootdatrupee!… About the Wii U being weak and inferior…its true I hate to admit it. I just look at the console comparison chart and weep. But these three years of losses(one of them was a gain due to currency rates) do not add up to even one year of profit during the Wii/DS days… Guest Its unconfirmed… Sony doesn’t release their real details until… May 14th… That is… Tomorrow. I could just as easily pull out another website that says Sony made a loss this year…except like your one its probable not true. So, like I would say to all those idiot further up in the comments section arguing about MK8’s graphic quality… Have a bit of f*cking patience…it’s not that long… Bob Wilkerson So you would say that a PIXAR or Dreamworks CGI cartoon takes less effort and power than the CGI in a more realistic art style? No it doesn’t because the amount of polygons to make a cartoon art style game could be just as much as the polygons used in a more realistic type of game. MK8 runs at 60FPS even when playing with 2 players which is something that the PS4 and XB1 have trouble doing even with single player games. Also if you search you will find many articles on how current games on the PS4 and XB1 are already pushing the limits of those consoles. matthew garcia I’m sure kingdom hearts 3 will blow anything on Wii u away and witcher 3. Wii u doesn’t have a chance this gen. Guest And it is here we see that all the ‘the games matter more’ talk is pure bullshit. People really do only care about graphics, if this comment section is any indication. Magnus Gonzalez so dumb nWo4liFe Lol if the Wii U was selling, you’d constantly hear developers saying “DWWAAA THE WII U TAUGHT US HOW TO PUSH HARDWARE THAT WE AREN’T USED TO AND IT HAS MADE US BETTER DEVELOPERS BECAUSE ITS BUILT SO DIFFERENTLY THAN THE OTHER CONSOLES DURPDURP”.. Wii U isn’t selling that great… ” We want the batmobile to run in the city. ” Lmao.. Seriously? Ferd726 Mario kart 8 (Wii U) vs Driveclub (PS4) matthew garcia Depends if your more of an arcade racer who wants to shoot shells or a gearhead who wants to tune up your own car and mess with g forces and aerodynamics kinda racer ben That definitely is not what Drive club is. Drive club is more a NFS game than a race sim. Andrew Gonzalez Yeah, two different types of games my friend. Yes they are racers but it just depends on the persons tastes. I used to be into driving sims but nothing really ever changes from game to game except for the visuals. NFS on the other hand is just plain fun. Kristian Kouvo Just wait until Project CARS are released for both; PS4 and Wii U. Then we have a decent comparison. Before that, all this is mostly a boring, bullshit debate. matthew garcia I’m sure ps4 version will get all the proper treatment Adam Fox I hate to say it, but if this is the LIMIT of the Wii U…thats kinda sad….i’ve seen more graphically impressive games on the PS3/Xbox 360….I really hope more games come out that blow this out of the water in reality…..I want the Wii U to survive, i got mine on launch and hate to see it fail…. Yen Have you seen it in person? Online videos doesn’t do the actual quality justice because most of them are reprocessed. Also, a consoles limit isn’t completely judged by its graphics. Bob Wilkerson Look beyond the art style and realize that this game is putting out 60FPS even when playing 2 players and also the amount of polygons and calculations in a cartoon art style game can be the same or very close to a more realistic looking game. Would you go to Disney and Dreamworks and tell them that their CGI cartoons take less effort and power than the CGI designed to be more realistic looking?? I think not. oontz “the amount of polygons and calculations in a cartoon art style game can be the same or very close to a more realistic looking game.” Nope… sorry. Are you trying to say that these (games) are actually comparable? Drive club looks a generation ahead of MK8. MK8 looks great for the wiiu and is a huge step up from the old SD wii version. But not far off from what you’d find on a PS3 game, such as mod nation racers. I have have attached some 1080p screen shots. Look at the character models and textures in the environment. Not on the same level of whats being rendered on the ps4. http://static.gamespot.com/uploads/original/mig/2/5/7/7/2042577-718939_20130611_021.jpg http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/ncmd7t2UkdM/maxresdefault.jpg Decker Shado Hm, I believe you found the worst looking MK8 screenshot out there to compare to Driveclub. Here’s some real fun – compare Driveclub to GT6. How massively advanced is it, again? oontz Here’s some real fun, compare MK8 to Mod Nation Racers. Daniel Gonzalez Looking at screens from both games, they’re about the same in terms of visual quality. So be to honest, I don’t see what Nintendo fans are bragging about. MK8 does look nice visually, but it’s nothing that’s never been seen on a PS3 before. Gameplay wise, that’s another argument altogether. oontz I agree, I can’t wait for MK8… going to play the hell out of it. But I am not blown away by the visuals… sure it looks great, first MK in HD, I get it. But not a game changer. Daniel Gonzalez So you’re saying that Mario Kart 8 looks bad? Cause that screenshot of MK8 looks about right to what you see in the game from screens and gameplay footage. Magnus Gonzalez you’re so stupid Chris Orr See my reply to Gamerrr72 above. Although he does specifically use the word “limit” so i may be wrong DragonSilths They mean they maxed out what could be done with MARIO KART 8. How could it go past 1080p, 60fps and that gorgeous? It cant. And nice lie, this looks better then anything from the 7th gen. WiiUPS4 Awesome is the best way to say how awesome this game will be and i got to try it last year at the best buy thing and it rocked Earthworm Jim 60fps? …well, I guess 41mph is fast for a kart game… Jeffery02 I’ll need to get the game to see this 60fps. I don’t own anything that can play a HD video that fast. Lol! Bob Wilkerson The frames per second is a big deal but to many people it only matters if the game is on the “other” platforms. When it happens on Nintendo and even in multiplayer it appears it does not matter. Purple I’m so excited, I can’t wait to play Project CARS. Mario This is off-topic, but my 3DS’ L, R, A and other buttons aren’t functioning correctly. (And to top it all, his screens are a bit scratched as well, Though that hasn’t been much of a problem to me really). 🙁 A Rod there is so much hype for mk8 right now that i almost forgot i wanted watchdogs for my ps4 too, i hope mk8 will be a huge system seller, nintendo really needs this kinda games in the near future. Matt Wii U games will look even better when if they run at 30 fps uPadWatcher …and at 60 fps. There… I fixed that for you. DragonSilths ??? oontz he’s right… they could use the additional resources towards other in game assets, such as; lighting, shading, textures, and so on.”. anthony optimo Can’t to wait to see what the Nintendo 1st and 2nd party devs are cooking up for us. Jim Peterson Big AAA, highly hyped title finally coming to Wii U. WHY did it have to be Mario Kart?? Still waiting on a good single player experience on the console. matt You all act like Mariokart 8 was developed with magic ?? i’ll tell you them tracks took more polygons then most racers out there easy due to all the fantasy elements and the characters with animation and kart took at least 60,000 polys,Mariokart8 looks amazing on a technical level and what Iwata is saying is with the time they had they maxed Mariokart 8 out,but with more time to discover the hardware they could get alot more…. FutureFox Its the developers who have reached the limits of the Wii U until they explore more ways to exploit the hardware. Mariofreak007 I have played the demo at an event in belgium and i must say that it looks much better and this game wil make the wii u succesfull! Ultrasyd I really hope and bet this is not the limits of Wii U ! I wanna see the same 1080p 60 fps with some “realistic” graphics, just to know. ben I think they meant they did everything they could to push the Wiiu to make the best Mariokart they could on the wii U. I think that if they came out and said, “Mariokart is awesome, but we could have made it better.” Then people would have more to complain about, Ultrasyd Yeah sure, the best they could do, at the moment, on this game. Games will be much better in a few years ! oontz “I wanna see the same 1080p 60 fps with some “realistic” graphics” Probably wont see that… there is a reason why Nintendo can hit 1080p/60fps on select titles… Here is a cool quote that breaks it down… “Without question, Nintendo is more likely to hit the 1080/60 mark more often than its competitors, due to the fact that a good deal of its games are based on their signature cartoony animation style. But when you have games like Killzone and Dead Rising? Resolution is being sacrificed so other aspects of the game can shine through, lighting, shading, textures, and so on.” matt The Sunset overdrive devs are touting polygons and Retro studios said they can use as many polygons as they want now with wiiu and the Mariokart8 devs were saying they used huge poly counts i think sunset overdrive uses 40,000 on characters if so then each character with kart must be at least 50,000 or more as the karts and characters are animating constantly…… Suraj Alexander i don’t get what impact games with 60fps have compared to games with 30fps. can anyone explain the difference game play wise.i mean 30 fps is playable its just when the frame rate drops to 15 it really effects game play. ben 60 fps in simple terms. The time between you pressing the button and the action on the screen is faster. oontz correct… even though the difference between 30fps and 60fps is around a difference of 15ms. Not sure the average person would even notice the difference or see it. here is a handy article explaining input lag. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input_lag ben In most games it is not an issue. As long as a frame rate is locked then a game is fair and consistent. In Fps games and fighters 60fps makes a huge difference. oontz Completely agree. Also saw you post on here that you’re in Japan? What city are you in? ben In Wakayama, about 40 minutes from Osaka. I live in Kansai so I probably have a natural bias towards Nintendo. Krzysztof TBH I’d rather have 60fps than 1080p. Especially in fast paced games like MK8. I guarantee, that after first “Wow” we all gonna be very quickly focused on the gameplay itself, not even noticing graphics. Obviously, all consoles have limitations, but if devs need to sacrifice something, let it be resolution. LukeMM95 Agreed. I honestly think more developers should focus more on the framerate than the games resolution. 60fps should be the standard by now. I mean the sixth gen consoles were able to run games at that speed, so why are these newer systems still having trouble with it? oontz There is a reason the wiiu hits 1080p/60fps more often… it has nothing to do with the power of the system. “Without question, Nintendo is more likely to hit the 1080/60 mark more often than its competitors, due to the fact that a good deal of its games are based on their signature cartoony animation style. But when you have games like Killzone and Dead Rising? Resolution is being sacrificed so other aspects of the game can shine through, lighting, shading, textures, and so on.” sharlo galmo Most peep don’t know what they saying, they mean that they do there best to make this game, they go all in…..No waaaaay that the tap the WiiU out, Mariokart 8 never make on the latest devkits, 2012 November Nintendo finish the latest devkits.. 2Макс2 Are those limits include some tricks for wiipad? Or it just the plain old rendering speed? Skelterz Who won mario kart 8? SP-937-215 Probably they mean the CPU was pushed to it’s limits. All those physics calculations, AI, collisions, etc. But as far as graphics go… I look at Mass Effect 3 and it still blows this game away. Ultrasyd <3 Mass Effect 3 InterTreble Wii U is definitely a new gen console. All those stupid things said by stupid people about this console, which shouldn’t be able to reach PS4 and XBO performance, are now so much embarassing that they are not commenting any more. Yes, it’s true, Wii U can’t be paired to PS4 and XBO: it is better. 1080p and 60fps, haters! Go troll somewhere else, you who said it couldn’t happen “for its hardware specifications”! And this is only about the graphics, but it’s not all about graphics, of course: a game like this can be dreamed by closed minded $ony/M$ fanboys. Let them shout as they always do. We’d rather play and enjoy, it’s damned better! 😉 matthew garcia Oh great 60fps on a kart game where the kart looks like they go 40mph. No sence of speed compared to forza or gt. Also nothin on Wii u looks better then kingdom hearts 3. It’s not on Wii u for a reason InterTreble And no blood and no zombies, you forgot… matthew garcia Lol y’all Wii u fanboys forget that y’all are new to hd and ps3 and 360 were doing 1080p 60fps 5 years ago lol. InterTreble The only fanboy here is you. I’ve just destroyed what you Sony/Microsoft fanboys have been saying for months, that Wii U wouldn’t have been capable of 1808p/60fps. Nothing else. If this hurts you, I can’t do a thing. oontz Here is a nifty quote about resolutions. There is a reason the wiiu hits 1080p/60fps more often… it has nothing to do with the power of the system. “Without question, Nintendo is more likely to hit the 1080/60 mark more often than its competitors, due to the fact that a good deal of its games are based on their signature cartoony animation style. But when you have games like Killzone and Dead Rising? Resolution is being sacrificed so other aspects of the game can shine through, lighting, shading, textures, and so on.” Ultrasyd Lol, you are the one trolling I think. The game is not even out dude ! It looks great yes, no one says the contrary. The game will be incredibly fun as usual. But “it looks better than PS4 and Xbox One” is plain stupid. If you say that graphics and hardware don’t matter, then don’t have such speech dude. Each game is different. I love Mario Kart, but really, if you want to speak about graphics, just be serious 2 seconds. Take a look ,at any screenshot from the game : http://graphicashen.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/mario-kart-8-on-nintendo-wii-u-4.jpg Seen ? What do you think ? Damn, I really hate reading such stupid statments, from both sides. Fanboy here or there, pfff. “Mario Kart is the most beautiful game eveeeeeer” 😀 And what if the game is 720p afterall ? You’ll say “graphics don’t matter anyway”, while you are celebrating a kind of victory today ? Can’t wait to play this game, but I really really want to see something running great on Wii U that is not cartoonish, and if possible, without free violence :p Zelda and X are my hopes. InterTreble Can’t count how many stupidities you said. Do not quote if you don’t undestand what people say! 😉 Ultrasyd “Wii U can’t be paired to PS4 and XBO: it is better.”. The game is not even out. All the screenshots are 720p, that’s all. You are just having the same speech as the haters, based on assumptions o_O InterTreble Perhaps you’ve missed the piece of news announcing that Mario Kart 8 will enjoy native 1080p at 60fps, stable from the beginning to the end. It happens. Ah… and, it was said by Nintendo, not by a blogger, or a commenter of a blog. That’s a big difference. Then, if you want to be still insulting people on the basis of your “screenshots” (and ashaming lack of information) be happy, and rest in peace! 😉 Ultrasyd Haha lack of information. I’ve learnt to be careful with infos released before a game is out you know. You remember that DK was said to be native 1080p too ? And even if MK is 1080p afterall, which would be awesome, I don’t see how this makes my Wii U better than a PS4 or XBoxOne ? I don’t think I insulted you 😀 But you are the one who said “stupid people ” think that Wii U can’t reach the power of a PS4 or XBox One. I only play Nintendo, but I think that a Wii U is not as powerful as a PS4, yes. If it makes you happy to think that a Wii U “is better” because MK is 1080p @60fps, that’s cool. By this I think you are into some kind of fanboysim too, this is what I meant. I still think that you should have a close look to all the images of this game out there 😉 Bye ! InterTreble You didn’t and still don’t want to understand what I said. You are always quoting part of sentences, with no regards for the rest. I quit. But, sincerely, do not think that your personal opinion, ene if respectable, may be more important than an official report by a company like Nintendo. It’s somehow weird you continue on this way… P.S. Again, and again, the problem is simply that Nintendo haters like daniel cockzales, oontze and similar were telling that Wii U could’t afford 1080p @ 60 fps “for their specifications”. This is a perfect demonstration about how much ridicolous they are. That’s all. Ultrasyd Before you quit, can you give me the link to the official report of Nintendo confirming it’s 1080 ? Maybe I’m just igrorant as you say then my apologize, I just remember having seen that on Eurogamer, and they didn’t say if it was native or upscaled. And for the trolls, just ignore them : of course 1080p 60fps is possible, on anything from this gen. It just depends on what is being diaplyed at the screen. Claiming that 1080p @60fps is not possible is just ridiculous. InterTreble http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-03-gorgeous-mario-kart-8-retro-tracks-compared-to-originals http://www.gamnesia.com/news/mario-kart-8-runs-in-1080p-60fps-even-during-two-player-split-screen#.U3M6M_l_v5A Cheers, my friend! 😉 Guest The problem with Trebby here is that either he’s just dodging what you say or doesn’t understand English too well despite appearing to type it okay. You are spot on with the fanboyism. It is strong with this one. I’m gonna guess he’s a teenager. :p oontz Please provide a source where Nintendo has said MK8 is native 1080p at 60fps. InterTreble Do you know Google, my friend? I found you something more interesting: people who TRIED the game! So you can also avoid to say that they are only “words” by Nintendo: This is what Gamenesia said: “We’ve known for some time now that Mario Kart 8 was running at 1080p with 60fps, but we were told the resolution was downgraded when the screen was split. In actuality, the game maintains 1080p and 60fps during two player sessions” And then, this comment is for you and people like you, who speak about fanboys for people who simply disagree with you, and tell the truth: “The Wii U continues to churn out 1080p, 60fps experiences while other consoles struggle – either in hitting the true 60fps mark or nailing 1080p. It may be a small package with less power, but the Wii U is slowly becoming the little engine that could. Mario Kart 8 looks to be able to stand up to and next to any other offering on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Does any of this really matter? No, but the Wii U continues to do more than most seem to willing to give it credit as being capable of doing.” http://www.gamnesia.com/news/mario-kart-8-runs-in-1080p-60fps-even-during-two-player-split-screen#.U3M7V_l_v5B Satisfied? For anything else, next time, please use Google. Cheers. oontz Again… Please provide a source where Nintendo has said MK8 is native 1080p at 60fps. Also I never claimed it wasn’t 1080p/60fps, only that NINTENDO (the people who are making the game) haven’t confirmed it. InterTreble http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-03-gorgeous-mario-kart-8-retro-tracks-compared-to-originals Another “source” that says you are WRONG. Definitely. Please, use Google for any other (silly) request. (recommendation #2, my last one, since you are a “broken disk”, with or without watermarks… ROTFL) oontz Do you even read my posts???? “I never claimed it wasn’t 1080p/60fps, only that NINTENDO (the people who are making the game) haven’t confirmed it.” None of the sources you’re posting are NINTENDO. N O N E Try harder. InterTreble If you don’t listen, don’t read what people say, don’t go to the links, don’t hear from the mouth of who tried the game, that you are WRONG, believe me, I can’t help you. Nobody can. Hopeless… oontz So did Nintendo confirm the resolution and FPS? No… So how exactly am I wrong? Daniel Gonzalez While he seems to type in passable English, I have a feeling he doesn’t comprehend it that well. He does hang out at IGN Italia afterall. Says a lot. Can bet he does the same usual routine there too. oontz He clearly doesn’t read peoples comments before replying. Daniel Gonzalez Don’t take him seriously. Yes, he is a troll so to speak. He basically rinses and repeats the same stuff over and over. Expect this from Trebby. 😛 Daniel Gonzalez He’s the typical troll on this site. Pay no mind. He doesn’t comprehend what you say to him no matter what. ;P InterTreble You didn’t read, or worse, you didn’t understand. It’s an epic fail the one you are defending. You never lose any occasion to show how much stupid you are, Mr Wrong! 😉 Daniel Gonzalez What’s that thing you do again? Oh right. Hahaha, comment too long, you are very upset. 🙂 We understand your comment quite well Trebby. It’s the usual fanboy rants that we come to expect of you. Poor muffin. Perhaps you should stick to IGN bud. I’m sure your rants are appreciated there. ;P InterTreble ROTFL http://img.ffffound.com/static-data/assets/6/6118cd5c93129fa2631f8394c7c09b4172f25be0_m.jpg oontz W O W, I thought we discussed that you would think before typing random nonsense. InterTreble ROTFL. The fact that this useless thing is also anonymous tells everything about its problems! 😉 oontz Here is a nifty quote about nintendo and resolutions. Resolution is being sacrificed so other aspects of the game can shine through, lighting, shading, textures, and so on.” InterTreble http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/96945/96945,1205690868,2/stock-vector-broken-vinyl-disk-vector-10429804.jpg oontz Ha ha, you even fail at posting images. Next time try and find one without a shutterstock watermark. On top of that the irony is that YOU are the broken record. InterTreble Do you know how ridicoluos your comments are? Always, man. Always. You just make me laugh, but seriosly, you need help! 😉 Daniel Gonzalez Some can’t handle the truth. What a shame. Lol. Mike sad thing is this will have ZERO DLC and no mario kart 9 untill years after the next console . i hope mario kart 8 will last us another 3-4 years Adrian those aren’t bad things… Mike no not bad just kind of sad. one mario kart per console nothing new for years to come. look how long its been since mario kart 7 lonewolf Nobody wants dlc on nintendo games because they were invented just to take more money out of the customer we know that most of the dlc is already on the disc they just sell you a code to open it. Mike so let me ask you this in three years from now after you master all 32 tracks and you are bored out of your mind you are telling me that you DO NOT want the option to download a few new tracks to play on ? just saying Darkness The guy is a retard because only a retard would say no to DLC. After a year things will get boring just like the past games. We need DLC for battle mode, new tracks in the future plus new characters lonewolf Rather buy a new game than to be playing the same game over and over. But I might return to the finished game (not only mario kart 8) lets say a year after I finished the same game. Mastering all the tracks doesnt mean that there wont be someone else in the world that have mastered them way better than you thats why there is online to compete with players around the world. Or even playing it locally would be just fine. Let me ask you. How long do you think you would need to master all 32 tracks with all players available ( or just with the ones you want to play lets say you want to play with 3 players and there is the vehicles you can choose from)? Mike Enjoy it I’m just saying they are slow with development and it sucks we won’t see anything past Mario kart 8 until the next Nintendo cosole is released and if history repeats not for a year or more after the next console so no Mario kart 9 for at least the next 4 years. Now if they follow the big boys they could give the game new life as in a refresh with new tracks and karts two years later. lonewolf I actually didnt mean new mario kart games but new different games. I would rather play MK 9 after several years from now than playing it every year. greengecko007 After playing Mario Kart 8 religiously for 6 months after its release and we start to lose interest, it would be nice to be able to buy more cups of tracks for like $10 per set. While some companies abuse DLC, not all do. There’s no reason to believe that Nintendo couldn’t make good DLC for Mario Kart 8. They’d be stupid not to. lonewolf I would rather play a new game after I have completed mario kart 8 than buying dlc’s. That way they can focus on new games rather than making dlc’s for the old ones. Besides you can always go back and play it online (because of the competition) or just play it locally with friends.but thats just my opinion. Ultrasyd And then people don’t buy Assassin’s Creed IV or stuff like that because there is DLC lol lonewolf Well gamers these days are used to being ripped off. Dark Lord Sauron they did pikmin 3 dlc right so anything is possible for mario kart 8 or future titles greengecko007 Have they confirmed it won’t? They’re selling season passes for Mario Golf DLC, so I’m holding out on hope that Mario Kart 8 gets at least something. Prizm I’ve played the demo a few times at a local department store. I didn’t notice any framerate issues. The game certainly looks nice on Wii U, although dated by any other standards. The graphics are probably more on par with PC games made 5 years ago. Ultrasyd Lucky you. Nothing like that here ! My son would be so happy to try it now : ) ben If the game was available for playable demo anywhere in the world the internet would know. This is someone trolling. Dated compared to what? What is the comparison? PC doesnt have a game that looks like a Nintendo game to compare it too. FutureFox For those of you wanting to see the game at 60fps just view the Nintendomination video posted back in January and follow his instructions. SolarShane13 To bad Google fucked that up. The instructions are invalid; there is no speed modifier anymore. FutureFox I did this just a minute ago to make sure. What you need to is, in brevity: 1) Use Chrome 2) install HTML 5 for Chrome 3) view video….in Chrome 4) adjust speed (click the little gear on youtube video) to 2. 5) patiently wait for video to buffer enough to enjoy it. SolarShane13 Thanks for the info. Don’t have Chrome since I use Safari. (iCloud) Darkness Battle mode you can tell they didn’t push sh!t. Lazy bums rush battle just like they did Mario kart 7. This game already needs DLC to fix battle mode plus this ridiculous character roster and the game isn’t even out yet! Smh…. Nintendo always causes my hype train to be destroyed. Let’s hope they don’t f$@k up Smash Bros SolarShane13 It’s because they want no one playing it so they have an excuse to dump it 🙁 They WILL fuck up Smash in some form or another. I think they have with the reporting system. I mean one of the reporting abilities is targeting someone? Seriously? In a FIGHTING game? What happens when it’s a 1v1 and the player that keeps loosing reports you for just playing the game? jhell So MK8 shows half of wii u power SolarShane13 FINALLY! Someone who sees the reality. If 1080p and 60fps was possible a year ago even in multiplayer, why can’t it be possible today? NinLAZYdo. Darkness What’s sad is when systems like Xbox 360 and PS3 match Wii U’s graphics or slightly outshine :$ Here’s what I mean and look how much older these systems are compared to the Wii U http://youtu.be/vWr8mnur0iM It’s unfortunate Nintendo just can’t keep up. It’s possible for Nintendo but I don’t get it. SolarShane13 Damn, that’s really pathetic when last gen systems are able to, even in a small amount, outperform the Wii U. As much as I would hate to admit it, Wii U is last gen. MerryBlind . I’m all for DLC, but not 2$ ones with tiny bits of content like a new costume. I like proper expansion packs like in the old PC days. Super Luigi U was a great DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U. If they are to make DLC for Mario Kart, I hope it won’t be like “Pay 5$ to play as Kirby!”. I wanted packages that include 3 new races, a new battle/racing mode, and new characters, or something like that. Leo Nintendo has some of the greatest developers in this business but even Nintendo doesn’t really know the full possibilities of its own consoles. Remember when Rareware used to frequently exceed Nintendo’s capabilities on the SNES and N64? Squid Well for a Mario title I DEFINATELY think this is amazing. I would say I want a Mario galaxy title for this system but the truth is I’d rather them wait until next console or the one after to do it. That way everyone gets all nostalgic about it. Sylux I doubt it is at it’s limit already in 1.5 years, but it’s possible, I’m no hardware developer, and I like everyone else know little about the actual hardware in WiiU. Looking at Wii as well and comparing the first games with Xenoblade, Last Story, Pandora’s Tower and Skyward sword. I think WiiU is on it’s limits for now, but in a year or two there will be much improvement still I think. Has always been the case on Hardware in the past too… Zach Cruz Where can one find a video showcasing 60fps? SolarShane13 IGN. YouTube sucks. Zach Cruz Thank You Dark Lord Sauron so any fking trolls wants to continue to pull nonfacts out of their @$$ cause mario kart 8 runs full 1080 p and 60fps SolarShane13 No it fucking doesn’t! GameXplain confirmed it runs at 720p 60fps Dark Lord Sauron yes it does and by the way check out the link i posted on top to prove it runs 1080p SolarShane13 What link? There’s no link in any of your comments. LMAO. Also, here’s the video where they specifically say that MK8 runs at 720p and 60fps. I can’t believe your calling a popular, legit gaming site liars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BNSMaOzPSM SolarShane13 What link? Also, here’s a site that confirms 720p: http://www.destructoid.com/mario-kart-8-is-stunning-and-fierce-in-hd-272799.phtml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Dark Lord Sauron those links troll and by the way gamexplain only made a guess they never did their research so try again dude SolarShane13 So, now destructoid is lying too? OMG You have got to be FUCKING KIDDING. MULTIPLE game sites come out and CONFIRM (NOT guess) that it’s 720p and you cannot see the reality? You have no fucking links in your first comment asshole! And just because I’m not able to find EVERY FUCKING LINK DOES NOT MAKE ME A GODDAMN TROLL! SolarShane13 Also, Nintendo has NEVER confirmed 1080p; so how bout YOU quit pulling non-facts out of your ass. Dark Lord Sauron http://mynintendonews.com/2014/05/05/eurogamer-confirms-mario-kart-8-is-1080p-and-60fps-even-in-two-player-split-screen/ Dark Lord Sauron http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2014/05/06/nintendos-mario-kart-8-demonstrates-the-folly-of-the-1080p-debate/ SolarShane13 I don’t see Nintendo confirming 1080p ANYWHERE in that article. Hell, I don’t even see Nintendo mentioning 1080p ANYWHERE! With wind waker HD, they made sure they mentioned 1080p. “As the definitive version of the game, you will experience The Legend of Zelda™: The Wind Waker HD in gorgeous, fully remastered 1080p graphics. Enjoy high-definition cell-shaded brilliance on your TV or entirely on the Wii U GamePad controller.” (Right from it’s website) In the developer direct, the dev mentions HD graphics, and not 1080p, which means the game is 720p. You would think that like wind waker, Nintendo would have made sure that they mention 1080p. Also, Eurogamer doesn’t mean it’s native resolution. They played it on a 1080p TV, thus the Wii U upscaled it to 1080p. “Plays in 1080p” doesn’t mean it’s “native resolution” is 1080p. Your a Nintensheep who can’t deal with the reality that MK8 has been downgraded. oontz No where in your forbes link or the eurogamer article they sourced, does it have Nintendo confirming the resolution of MK8. So simmer down. At this point you’re the one being a troll. SolarShane13 Bullshit! This isn’t anywhere NEAR that Japanese Garden demo, or have they completely forgot about that? This is the problem with “demos”. E3 2011: “Yeah, look at these awesome graphics” they say. Three years later: “OMG, 720p and we’re pushing the system to it’s limits!” -_- Guest FUCK YOU Disqus. Fucking disqus WON’T SAVE MY FUCKING EDIT. My Edit: Bullshit! This isn’t anywhere NEAR that Japanese Garden demo, or have they completely forgot about that? This is the problem with “demos”. E3 2011: “Yeah, look at these awesome graphics” they say. Three years later: “OMG, 720p and we’re pushing the system to it’s limits!” Why my edit no save? Enumerating Wishes It’s hard for me to fathom it’s not running at 1080p, but I’m starting to get the feeling it’s not. The game just looks so clean I’d be surprised it didn’t. The anti-aliasing isn’t strong either so I also made my guess at full HD.
