With the release of Mario Kart 8 just a month and a half away, we’ve seen more information surface about playable characters and now, a French gaming blog is reporting that a Mario Kart 8 special bundle will be released. Right now Europe is the ‘confirmed’ region for this rumor, but it’s probably safe to say if this one does turn out to be true the United States will see something similar as well.

This bundle includes a black 32GB Wii U with the game, as well as a 7 day trial for Wii Karaoke U. While this is a rumor and not yet confirmed, Mario Kart 8 will be the biggest title released on the Wii U until Super Smash Bros. gets here, so it’s not hard to imagine that Nintendo will want to capitalize on the game’s popularity in order to try and sell more Wii U consoles.

Still, since this is a rumor and unconfirmed, be skeptical about it until any of the official Nintendo channels say anything. Remember that spectacular Year of Luigi 2DS that turned out to be a custom mod and not an official release?

Thanks for the tip, Jake!

Looks great. Depending on E3 announcements I might have to get his. Hope for the Wii U sake that this helps move 5-10 million consoles this year or else they really will be another gamecube. Great for owners but bad for Nintendo

  • they’d be silly to not make one

    • jjbredesen

If they want to drive sales they would be crazy not to make one, the Mario kart Wii bundle sold fantastic (31M) so its impossible that they will not.

      • If they don’t make a Smash Bundle, I’ll just cry a little.

        … and then I’ll cry a lot

        • and then… a bit more.

          • ActivesiN

            then….a little bit more

        • jjbredesen

How about a 64GB Smash/MK Bundle with a 2 pro controllers? That would be fantastic and if they could sell it for $299 it would be the best thing ever.

          • it’d be cool, but the price is unrealistic

          • jjbredesen

$250 for the console, 80 for to pro controllers and $100 for booth the games, so that would become a total of $430, but they could reduce it to $380 and it would still be cheaper than Xbone.

          • that’s more reasonable. I like it. but keep in mind as the console storage goes up, so will the price

It’d be cheaper than the PS4 too ;P

          • jjbredesen

Yup, that way there will be no excuse to not buy a Wii U, unless you have a horrible taste in games ๐Ÿ˜›

          • greengecko007

That $430 total already seems like a reduction.

At standard pricing, pro controllers go for $50 each, so $100 for 2. I’m sure both MK8 and SSBU will be priced at $60, so that’s $120 for both games. Add all of that to $250 for the Wii U, and you get $470.

Personally, I think a standard one game bundle would be Nintendo’s best bet. If they can bundle the Wii U with Mario Kart 8 for $300 for the Summer, and then Bundle it With Smash at a generous $290 for this Winter, Nintendo has a chance competitively.

          • jjbredesen

Thats true, but i would still like a smash/mk bundle xD

          • Kevin James McAllister

Really? Two games and two pro controllers for $299? Take off the full price of the games and the controllers and you’re left with a $79 console. I don’t disagree that’d be an awesome deal, but be a bit realistic.

          • jjbredesen

            Read my later comments ๐Ÿ˜›

      • Magnus Eriksson

Did the bundle really sell 31M? Or are you talking about the game here? Im sorry, but I have a hard time to believe that MKWii sold almost one third of all Wii’s…

        • jjbredesen

Nope my bad, that was the totals sales of the game, don’t think anyone has counted the bundles, only total console sales, but i still know that it sold really well, and it would not be stupid to say that 10M MK bundles where sold? I know a lot of people that got the bundle, so that would be more realistic, so if MK could sell 5M Wii U’s that would be good.

          • Magnus Eriksson

10 M is still an aweul lot… I would guess around 1-3M and thats still ALOT. 3M is ten % of all sold copies.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah it as a alot of consoles, but when you look at the bundles that Wii had only the Wii sports bundle sold better, and Wii sport sold 82 M copies meaning that there is room for 10M MK bundles, but when i think about it 6-7M would be more likely, 1-3M would be a bit low.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah… but the Sports bundle was standard. Its like the original Super Mario Bros. Sold like hell, because it was bundled from beginning. My guess is that Ice Climbers did pretty good too – although it sucks…

          • jjbredesen

Ice Climbers lol, well its not horrible, but it was not close to games like the orginal Mario, Zelda and Metroid, just tried to beat the orginal Metroid again and dam games where a lot harder back in the day, just beat Zelda II after hours and hours of frustration xD, have a lot of respect for people that played on NES.

Funny thing is that i beat Zelda II before the orginal, because i have no clue where to go in the orginal, should be the other way around.

Ice climbers feels like a arcade game, more than a console game, but its playable ๐Ÿ˜›

      • CivilRobo

        hehehehe… “DRIVE” sales…. :DDD

        • jjbredesen

        • Rinslowe

          Wow that’s a big smiley face…

    • FutureFox

Nintendo’s made so many silly decisions already, I see no reason for them the stop now.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, but strange thing… I wouldnt be surprised if it was released in full silence, without bundles or any commercials. Nintendo seems to do whatever they shouldnt. And all the stuff they should do, they dont. A very odd logic there…

      • They’re just not making logical decisions

      • jjbredesen

        Agreed, lets just say that:

Nintendo and common sense does not fit in the same sentence XD

        • Rinslowe

It does with console design IMO. And with game development etc…
But you’re on the money when it comes to marketing, advertising and public relations…

          • jjbredesen

Yeah it makes a lot of sense to make a game where a fat communist italian plumber, that kills turtles, gets high on mushrooms (no pun intended), eats flowers to shot fire out of his hands, and skins tanookies for there fur etc. and saves a princess from a overgrown turtle on steroids.

Or a boy that wheres a green dress, goes around smashing pots, uses a legendary sword as a lawnmower and enslaves fairies.

Or a little pig astronaut that enslaves millions of little helpless creatures to do its own tasks.

Although the games are great, i don’t think that Miyamoto used common sense when he made Nintendo’s first party games ๐Ÿ˜›

As for consoles, although there consoles are extremely well designed, they are made to be quaility consoles, not consoles that are easy for devs to make games for etc.
(Donno if that made any sense, but i think you know what i mean :P)

So yeah, no common sense at all xD

          • Rinslowe

            Stranger things have happened…
Common sense and art don’t really go together in that way.

          • jjbredesen

            Agreed ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Rinslowe

It almost has to be exactly like that. Only one month + to go…

      • sd

The less attention they give the Wii U now, the less people will notice at the end of 2015 or 2016 when they release a new console and scrap this. By letting it run its course without advertising or pushing the system they will actually do less harm to themselves. Its only the few die hard fans, like me, who will take notice. But again, release a new console with a decent support from great games and all will eventually be forgotten.

    • DragonSilths

Banned for saying “Silly” That is Hateful/Bullying. You have been banned from Miiverse for 2 weeks.

      • GOOD >:(

        • DragonSilths

    • If they don’t make a bundle…
Iwata will pay for it with his life.

I really need to catch up…

        • It was early in s5,episode 4 or 5. He didn’t kill anyone, not with the gun anyway… and yes you really should. Or just go straight to Day of the Doctor. Is where I started watching.

  • ActivesiN

Nintendo would be out of their minds not to make a Mario Kart 8 bundle

  • BIG Franky

I think that if Nintendo does NOT release an MK8 bundle (which I am starting to doubt they will as I would guess it would need to be announced by now for pre-order purposes, right?), then they are beyond outclassed by their rivals in any type of marketing ability…but I guess we have already established this by now, correct?

    • Rinslowe

I think they will have availability, just not immediately. That though in itself, proves your point. As you said, should have been officially announced already…
Nintendo’s marketing is away with the mad hatter right now having tea and biscuits.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Seems likely but still they might save it for christmas but who knows

  • Sycamore

It should come with a digital copy of Mario Kart Historia.

  • Sdudyoy

    Doesn’t surprise me.

  • That guy who hates Spike

“Mario Kart 8 will be the biggest title released on the Wii U until Super Smash Bros. gets here,”
    Only, you forgot about Watch_Dogs.

    • greengecko007

Watch Dogs is confirmed to be coming out this year for the Wii U? I thought it was only rumored to be coming out this fall for the Wii U.

      • That guy who hates Spike

Ubisoft said they are targeting Autumn 2014
Nintendo said they are targeting Winter 2014

        • greengecko007

IGN says that it is a rumor based around the Uplay store showing the game as coming out in the Fall. The Australian Uplay store still lists the game as coming out in May, so obviously this isn’t a reliable way of obtaining information. IGN also contacted Ubisoft and they did not comment on the subject.

          • That guy who hates Spike

Considering, this came from an official Ubisoft source (North America’s Uplay) it has some credibility. After all, someone just doesn’t randomly pull out “Fall 2014” when you work for Ubisoft.

  • I see this rumor coming true

  • Igor

The problem is, at least for me, that they don’t stylize the console according to the game. They did it so many times with the 3ds. Some of them came out really good, so why not try something like that with its big brother (not that crappy thing they did with the zelda bundle, but a whole change on colors).

    • MerryBlind .

Yeah a Red Wii U would be so rad. Imagine that: Nintendo release a Red Special Mario Kart 8 Edition Wii U Bundle, then a Blue Special Smash Edition Wii U Bundle, and a Yellow Special DK Edition Wii U Bundle.

      That covers the primary colors.

That would also sell like hotcakes when come Christmas.

Then they could do an orange, a green, and a purple bundle next year.

  • MerryBlind .

Actually, I was just expecting new bundles to be released in Fall for the Holidays 2014. Like a MK8 Bundle and/or a 3D World Bundle and/or a Smash Bundle and/or a DK Tropical Freeze Bundle.

But who knows, like someone said on another website, the random tidbit mentioning a trial for Wii Karaoke U is so random that it might just be true! (Who would think of adding that to a rumor when starting a rumor lol?)

However, like I’ve said before, I’d like special Controllers Bundle. Like a Red Pro Controller + MK8 Bundle, and a Blue Pro Controller + Smash Bundle.

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

Europe get all the good stuff…..

  • InterTreble

300$ = a great console (Wii U) + one of the best 2014 games (shall we guess? wait for the first reviews…) + the only really next-gen controller + tons of great games, many exclusives, with at least 12 titles evaluated 85+ on metacritics even right now. This is called a big deal.

    • matthew garcia

They should sale it for 250.00 did u see those horrible Japanese sales. I know they shouldn’t drop the price cuz of manufacturing cost but what else can they do to sale the Damn thing

      • Advertise…

        • matthew garcia

Like I said what else can they do cuz they have had over a year and a half to do that and they havnt. They will never advertise

  • C4

Should include Nintendo Land (as Download) to have one game to show off the GamePad capabilites.

    • MerryBlind .

Yeah Nintendo Land should just come pre-installed on every single Wii U, in addition to a proper game like Mario Kart 8 or Mario 3D World or whatever.

In fact, They should somewhat merge Nintendo Land with Miiverse. Like Miiverse should become Nintendo Land.

  • think its safe to say this WILL be happening

  • leo

Nintendo would be stupid not to do this.

  • Ultrasyd

Of course they have to do it, or they are just crazy and hopeless

  • Epleguy

This is definitely true for Norway. Just head over to Nintendo.no and see it on the front page.

    • jjbredesen

Ingen bundle, bare Special Edition boksen som kommer med eit blรฅtt skjell.

why are you talking about a blue shell ๐Ÿ˜›

          • jjbredesen

I said that whats on the front page of Nintendo of Norways page was the special edition pack that comes with the game and the blue shell, its not the bundle ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • Commander Raichu

  • CEObrainz

This is most likely true, Nintendo would be stupid to not do some sort of Mario Kart bundle. Although they have made some questionable decisions as of late….

  • Rinslowe

Widespread availability for Mario Kart 8 bundles will be inevitable IMO.

  • readypembroke
    • Christian Schoff

I’m a Nintendo fanatic and even I know Nintendo needs to do more advertising.

  • Carlos Webster

Wow, they’re putting a lot of effort into this.

  • Christian Schoff

They should also include that nifty stand that clips onto the Gamepad and makes it a kick butt wheel.

  • Cole Brinley

I’d be surprised if they didn’t make a Mario Kart 8 bundle. Same with Super Smash Bros.

  • sd

With Wii U sales being so abysmal, I am curious about how many units Mario Kart will help shift. The lowest sales total for any mario Kart on a console is around 7 million, which is more than the number of Wii U’s currently sold. I assume the Wii U will have a one off increase of anywhere up to a million units before sales collapse again.

    • Rinslowe

I wouldn’t want to bet on it reaching even the lowest record to date this year. But over the course of this generation it may be possible…
It’ll remain relative to the situation as it goes.

Sales certainly would collapse if no other titles are present to assist with the momentum. And this has been their no’ one issue with sales since after the launch period ended…
It really is quite odd, that Nintendo has not seriously addressed that issue.

      • sd

I completely agree and don’t understand what Nintendo are doing at all with the Wii U. For me I wonder if they have other plans and are just using the Wii U to bide their time. In addition I am now convinced they have semi given up on the Wii U. If they don’t advertise it then it will slip from peoples minds (those who have not purchased it). This will make it easier for them as people will forget when they release a successor. It makes sense if you think of it in that way.

Its a shame as I have played many great games on the system, it just a shame they only come along every few months.

        • Rinslowe

I don’t think they’re giving up on it any time soon…

Wii U is only really a failure in the eye’s of paid media outlets. 6+m in 1.5 years on the market is hardly worth discontinuation.
And if they get their house in order soon it’ll be a relatively successful console, no doubt…

But that’s a big if right now. Worst case scenario Wii U is the gamecube of this generation – possibly.

          • sd

I think that Wii U sales were great at the start. The concern for me is the constant 30k per week that has been happening for the past year. At the moment while I really like the Wii U I am giving it until after mario kart releases. If things dont change then I will probably sell it, which would be a shame. But 4 great games a year just isnt enough( I have other consoles for multi-platform titles).

It is possible Nintendo will keep supporting it, but if not I wouldnt be surprised. Personally I am expecting a VR console soon. Nintendo are working hard on this from what I have read, but whether it is released for the Wii U or not is the big question for me. Of course this is all my own thoughts and little proof on them stopping support or releasing a new console of any kind.

  • SuperUltramagnus

but if NINTENDO Was smart they will OFFICALLY discontinue the Original Wii console! and games and focus on wii u ! kinda want another wiiu table (gamePad) for a second player. they have to do some love the bundles but still way to early for bundles! it seems they have bundles for every new HD game like zelda wind waker, mario games, and dancing , wiiu ( dancing) , zombie U , and now Mariokart 8 one this way to early watch were going to get one for Zelda wii U, metroid prime U, whatever mario games coming out,and etc!!!! they should do more with DLC packs!

  • Old School

It would be silly and crazy to not have a bundle but then again this is Nerdtendo we’re talking about.

They will fail like they did with MK7.

    Where’s battle mode?!

Why can you only hold 1 item?!

Why not have a big character roster?!

    Why not have voice chat?!

Why ruin the game with item spy?!

Why not have a lot of battle courses?!

    Jesus….clueless mother f@&$ers

We need to see some commercials 24/7 on every kids channel, ESPN, and WWE programming since those are the shows that both kids, teens, and parents are usually together watching television.

  • Old School

I been complaint about this for months now, Nintendo needs to advertise this game like crazy since it’s their best seller! I am sorry but the promoter of MK8 are clueless, should of been doing what the guys at smash have been doing throughout the months

  • Shota

    it’s true.

  • Steve

It wouldn’t surprise me if Mario Kart 8 did come with a bundle.
